1:02Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you. As we come before the Lord let us prepare ourselves by calling to mind our sin. You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord have mercy. You came to call sinners Christ of mercy. We plead for us at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. Lord have mercy. Almighty God, have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Let us pray. Grant we pray, O Lord, that school through London observance and nourished by your word, through holy restraint we may be devoted to you with all our heart and be ever united in prayer, through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son who lives and

2:07reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. A reading from the book of Deuteronomy, Moses spoke to the people, Israel give heed to the statutes and ordinances that I am teaching you to observe so that you may live to enter and occupy the land that the Lord the God of your ancestors is giving you. See, just as the Lord my God has charged me, I now teach you statutes and ordinances for you to observe in the land that you are about to enter and occupy. You must observe them diligently. For this we'll show your wisdom and discernment to the peoples who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, surely this great nation is a wise and discerning people. For

3:08what other great nation has a God so near to it as the Lord our God is, whenever we call to Him. And what other great nation has statutes and ordinances as just as this entire law that I am setting before you today. But take care and watch yourselves closely so as neither to forget the things that your eyes have seen, nor to let them slip from your mind all the days of your life. 6:34Praise to you, Lord, King of eternal glory. The Lord be with you, reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew, Jesus went up the mountain and began to teach his disciples. Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away,

7:43not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord, Jesus Christ. Our readings today speak about the law and the first thing we need to ask is what which law are we talking about? Here we're talking about the mosaic law, the mosaic law given to Moses

8:44for the Israelites. Not one letter of the law will be struck. What is Jesus referring to? We're back to the book of Deuteronomy when God gave the law to Moses. Do not add, do not subtract from these laws. There was a problem after the Israelites had been exiled in Babylon for 70 years. When they returned, they said to themselves, let's make sure this never happens again. Our ancestors fled far from the law, and this is why this terrible thing happened to us. Well, they started doing what they weren't supposed to do, and that was they started adding to

9:51laws and interpreting them in a way that was not in the spirit of the law. And so when Jesus appeared on this scene, he seemed to be doing things that are against the law. But as he teaches, the Pharisees had a misunderstanding of what the law was. The law will not save you. You're intent is what God is looking for. They also forgot how God had summed up the Ten Commandments. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. It's strange because the Jews pray this Shema prayer every day.

10:52But as things go on, sometimes we forget fundamentals. And fundamentally, the law is there to help us to love. Now we find ourselves in the time of Lent. Now is the time for us traditionally to look back over the year. The primary question for us needs to be, have I loved God with my entire being, my heart, my soul, my strength, and have I shown that love by loving my neighbor. Well, they're so and so. And there's also somebody else. But there are no buts. Love is love. And this is what makes Christianity so difficult. Is the ability to love is there. But we find it so hard to do. Sometimes we forget the love is

12:08a sacrifice. Just as forgiveness is a sacrifice. Why should I give, forgive so and so when he or she did whatever to me? It is because we follow the example of Christ, the sinless one who gave his life for ours. Have we ever been tested to the point of shedding blood, as St. Paul says, in loving someone? But today we don't want focus to be on ourselves and what we've done wrong. And so we don't forgive. But unforgiveness is a spiritual toxin. In Lent, we turn away from sin and follow the gospel.

13:13And the gospel, of course, is the gospel of love. But it's so hard. Therefore, we have the grace of the Eucharist to assist us. Whenever you're finding it difficult to get along with someone or forgive someone, look at a crucifix, meditate upon the corpus. Their Christ is praying to his Father. Forgive them, they know not what they do. Forgive love, pardon, be merciful, kind, compassionate. These all take energy. And so come to the Eucharist to be replenished,

14:18renewed, reenergized, that you may be able to fulfill the law of God, that you may be able to love. We offer our universal prayer. For all those in our daily TV Mass prayer and tension book, we pray to the Lord. We pray for this month's community prayer, for fathers, grandfathers, and protectors, that they may be led in wisdom, humility, and inspired by the quiet faith of Saint Joseph, we pray. For missionaries throughout Canada, that they may be examples of love to their people, we pray to the Lord. For those suffering in mind or body that they may receive the healing

15:22peace of Christ, we pray to the Lord. For those who have died, that they may receive the forgiveness of earthly sin. And rest in the quiet peace of the kingdom, we pray to the Lord. Heavenly Father, we give you thanks for hearing our prayers in the name of Christ your Son, who is our Lord forever and ever. Amen. Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you. Fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life. Blessed be God forever.

It is truly right and just our duty and salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, for you have given your children a sacred time for the renewing and purifying of their hearts, that freed from disordered affections, they may so deal with the things of this passing world as to hold rather to the things that eternally endure. And so with all the angels and saints we praise you, as without end we acclaim.

18:36Holy, holy Lord, God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Therefore, O Lord, we humbly employ you by the same Spirit graciously make holy these gifts we are brought to you for consecration, that they may become the body and blood of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, whose command we celebrate in these mysteries. For on the night he was betrayed, himself took bread and giving you thanks. He said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying, take this, all of you and eat of it. For this is my body which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and giving you thanks he said the blessing gave the chalice to his disciples, saying, take this, all of you and drink from it.

20:43For this is the chalice of my blood. The blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me. The mystery of faith. We proclaim your death, O Lord, and provise your resurrection. Until you come again. Therefore, O Lord, as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your Son, his wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven, and as we look forward to his second coming,

21:48we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice. Look, we pray upon the creation of your church and recognizing the sacrificial victim. By whose death you will to reconcile us to yourself, grant that we who are in urge by the body and blood of your Son and filled with his holy spirit may become one body, one spirit in Christ, may make of us an eternal offering to you so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect, especially with the most blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with blessed Joseph, her spouse, with your blessed apostles and glorious martyrs, and with all the saints on whose constant intercession in your presence, we rely for unfailing help. May this sacrifice of our reconciliation we pray, O Lord, advance the peace and salvation of all the world. Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity

Listen graciously to the prayers of this family whom you have summoned before you, in your compassion, O merciful Father. As we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress. As we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

24:59For the kingdom of the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles, peace I leave you, my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever and ever.
