DAILY DEVOTION: CONSEQUENCES OF SIN!! (1 Kings 12:12-20)

You know, God is working. He's working all the time. Even when you don't feel it, even when you don't see it, he is working in the background and giving us a chance to be part of his journey, a part of his story and God he loves you so much. He orchestrates all things for his good and also our God is good. That's why his plans are way better than our plans. And then his thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Today we're going into 1st Kings, chapter 12, verse 20, we're continuing with our series on kings and we're seeing how King Solomon has declined how he has, when he passed away

1:06his son took reign and went to the outer advisors to see what they're going to do with the workforce. A low-gale and lovely Sanchez, praise the Lord, but yeah, wow. And then what did he do? He rejected the advice of the wise advisors of King Solomon who actually knew the workforce and then his name was Rehoboam and then the other side was Jeroboam who was representing the Northern Kingdom which were the 10 tribes of Israel that became the Northern Kingdom. And so he came and he petitioned to Rehoboam and Rehoboam decided to take the advice that he wanted to hear from people of his same age, from his friends and then he imposed a harsher law on the people of Israel and said, you shall pay more taxes, you shall work

2:09more and you shall feel my wrath. He pretty much threatened them instead of giving them less workload. He was a new king and they gave him a chance to unify Israel. The elder said, if you treat them nicely then they will be your servant forever but then that's not the case. That's not what King Rehoboam did instead he rejected it and said, I'm going to go my way. And you shall fear me. And the reason why he was like that was because of his upbringing and because he was spoiled because he grew up in luxury, he never worked so he felt like entitled to building his own kingdom and not building the kingdom of Israel, kingdom of God. Hey, it's okay, this language is not easy for everyone to understand but as you study

3:11as you speak it more and more, then you understand it more just like the Abdulingo has a lot of different languages like Chinese, English, Korean, Japanese and French, Russian. So first, King chapter 12, verse 20, it says three days later, Jacob and all the people have returned to Jacob and as the king has said, come back to me in three days and the king

4:15answered people harshly, rejecting the advice given him by the others and he followed the advice of the young man and said, my father made your yoke heavy and I will make it even heavier, my father scored you with whips and I will score you with scorpions. So the king did not listen to the people for this turn of events, it was from the Lord to fulfill the Word of the Lord that had been spoken to Jacob on the son of Nebat through a hija and Shalomite, when all of Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king, what shared do we have in David, what part in Jesse's son, to your tents or Israel, look after your own house David so the Israelites went home but as for the Israelites who were living in the talent of Judah, were born still ruled over them and the king were born sent out at a river near him who was in charge of forced labor but

6:17not here by accident you see in this story we can see the result of sin and for all have sined and born short of the glory of God and the wages of sin the penalty of sin the punishment of sin is death is eternal separation from God is the second death which is the spiritual death so we had the physical death and then the spiritual death and the result of sin is what we begun with Salm and sin and this is a disobedient now which result a split of the kingdom of rareborn as rareborn speaks harshly to Jeroboam and all the people and the word of Ahidja prophesied has come to pass the people rejected the house of David and Jeroboam rules over most of the tribe and Salman he had one point led his people with godly wisdom but he succumbed to selfishness and worldly desires that had repercussions when he took the foreign wives when he took

8:27the other tribes into forced labor for the people responding by stoning at or near him to death and they completely rejected any ruler of David's lineage and decided that Jeroboam should be their new king and rareborn please barely making it to Jerusalem and while Salman and rareborn's action may have been severe repercussions well we see that David's leadership has also lasting effects King David was actually a rightful man after God's own heart right dial Cali yeah he was after God's own heart God recognized it and that's why he told King Salman and his son you shall still have a part of rulership you shall still have rulership over Judah over the Benjamin menites and so we can follow King David's example remaining faithful in asked situations knowing that your faithfulness and your continued faithfulness can result in

9:30blessing for the future for your children and your children children for generation to come you see you're not just living for your own life you're living to bless your children and the next generation and you're here to bring the light of God into your community and that's why we continue walking in his way praising him all the days of our life and saying Lord thank you thank you for not giving up on us thank you for not dividing us thank you for being the wise king who leads us in everything that we do and that's why we love God and that's why we're here to hear his word of God to hear how he works to hear him bless you and work with you and lead you in your life a man and so we can see that God never lets us down and that God has greater plans for each and every one of you and there is no greater love than this but one to lay the

10:33light down for another and that is exactly what Jesus did you see this divide divided kingdom the division of the kingdom 10 going to Jeroboam and then two going to Rehoboam it's a picture of God's sovereignty and working out his judgment upon Israel due to their terrible sin just like prophesy you see you can see the reaction of King Rehoboam Solomon's son his harsh decision which was quick and abrupt and the result was that 10 northern tribes we voted and broke off away from the Davidic covenant from the covenant and the line of David the worship of King David and King Solomon 10 northern tribes marched home and said I ain't gonna follow you no more if you're not for me if you're not gonna serve me if you're not gonna help me and my family then we won't serve you

11:37anymore and so I think that we are seeing that here in our own country of United States of America how when the government is not for you and when the the state is not for you the people will revolt just like the people of the 10 northern tribes however the Israelites of Judah still supported Rehoboam and the king he made an unwise attempt to enforce more tax to force more labor laws to work out as a compromise this superintendent this manager who's in charge of forced labor was killed and he himself barely escaped from their wrath and the divided kingdom 10 going to the northern and then two to the southern was permanently vulture permanently happened and the 10 northern tribes crowned Rehoboam as king of Israel and then there was an army of Judah which immediately

12:44was mobilized by King Rehoboam later on in verse 21 but we will touch on that tomorrow right now we're gonna be focusing on the harsh decisions that King Rehoboam had on his people it was quick it was abrupt it was not given with like a second thought he should have been patient and consulting God the Father in every decision he made as king you know when King Solomon when King David ruled and they succeeded and they were successful and prosperous they consulted God in everything every decision they made for the kingdom they consulted God and we lack what likewise should consult God in the big decision that we make in our life and surely his goodness and

13:44his mercy will chase after you all of your days of your life but when you reject God then you're missing out on the wisdom of God the infinite wisdom of God the infinite wealth of God infinite blessings and that's why we must consult God first we must not make our choices rashly and be like oh I want to buy a car boom I want to buy a house boom I want to clear out my credit card one year ago people ran out of their savings and they started using credit card and now people are maxing out their credit card they are in debt and when you are in debt then you are enslaved to money you're enslaved to the one who lends the money and that's why God hates debt and that's why in the Old Testament God said to Abraham you shall be lenders not borrowers do not go into debt debt is a trap a trap

14:54of the devil and so we're going to go back into the passage we can see how the people of the northern kingdom they broke away from Judah they revolted they said no no way this generation will not serve the house of Judah not the house of David not the house of King Solomon because you do not serve us God is here he's here to serve you he showed and displayed the art of servant leadership by coming from heaven his divinity to become a human but giving up his divinity and then to die on the cross laying his life down for you and for me so that we make experience eternal life so that we make experience his love his joy his peace in our life that's why we serve the Lord because he is for us and not against us if God is for us then who can ever be against us that's how we praise the

15:57Lord for he is good and his love in jurid forever you see this harsh decision was made by King for they made a formal and defined statement to claim that they share no share a no part of this dynasty of David and they shut it out to your tents or Israel look after your house oh David and then with this formal declaration the ten northern tribes marched away from Shechem and returned home and but the issue item Judah still supported were born just like God has commanded and prophesied and soon thereafter were born he declared he determined to make one final effort to enforce and control over the northern tribes and you see what were born problem was here he was trying to control people you're trying to take control into its own own hands

17:03and because of people he trying to take control then he experienced the vote even more of the vote he sent Adelry near him or Adelrym either to enforce tax and labor service law to work out a compromise with the northern tribes and then exactly what his purpose was not stated by the scripture but regardless of the purpose his attempt was futile it failed in fact the labor official was immediately stoned to death and killed and reaboned barely escaped from the punishment pursuing mob of with his life you see he grew up entitled everyone listened to him everything he wanted happened but then in reality he has no power in reality without God without the submission of the people he is powerless and so that's why we must submit to Lord God most high because he set us

18:11free for the bondage of sin and he set us on higher pedestal when we humble ourselves before him because he humbles the he exalts the humble and then he humbles the proud so here we can see the pride of reaboned then title made the ego of reaboned being put in place and people rejected it and they recognized that he is not truly someone from God that they wanted to follow they had a choice and we do have a choice too and so we follow the Lord God on most high who never lets us die and who always fights for you protects you provides for you heals you and gives you everything that you need we're trusting in the Lord all the days of our life and then from that day forward the kingdom was permanently butchered permanently divided and it existed as two kingdoms up to the

19:18very day of the author's writing of first kings the ten northern kingdoms immediately they crown geriborm as king and geriborm he was one of the good kings actually and what was to become therefore after after the king or king of Israel only the tribe of Judah ruled by Solomon's son reaborm remained loyal to the house or dynasty of David and keep in mind that the tribe of Benjamin was usually counted as a part of Judah because it is so small in its location within the boundaries of Judah's territory and when reaborm he returned to Jerusalem he immediately mobilized an army of 118 thousand no hundred eighty thousand soldiers to invade the northern tribe and subject them under his rule which was unwise and he made the decision to try to regain control and force

20:21themes into his hand control over the northern tribes and note the intervention of God that he sent a man of God a prophet to the king reaborm later tomorrow was steady this and to the king of Judah and Benjamin with a stark warning they were not to fight against their brothers the Israelites rather they were to return home for the ruptured divided kingdom was of God and his work of his hands and hearing from this prophet the king and the people obey the Lord and return home wow now we can see here it's a clear picture of God's sovereignty God's power God's sovereignty how he is sovereign over all things how he is in charge how he's in power how he can recognize those who are righteous and unrighteous and when you are righteous and rocking in the weight of the Lord then he will provide for you he will give you more and he will add to you it says sick first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and he will add all

21:29things unto you he will add all things unto you think as in prosperity success spiritual things like the Holy Spirit he will add all things unto you and we can see of how he uses events to work out his will upon the earth in the present instant God uses the arrogance and the pride of reaborm and he contemporaries to work out this judgment upon Israel and still today God uses events and the behavior of man to execute righteousness upon the earth to accomplish his eternal purposes for mankind and we can rest assured of this one truth that God works all things out for good for those who love him and are called by him in fact God's ultimate purpose is to work out all things together for good for both Christ and for his dear followers the believers who walk

22:35in his ways in Jesus name and this reason for this reason we can see all evil deeds and wicked terrible committed by man down through history will be frustrated and eventually overcome by good no tyrant no even a evil nation will last forever in Jesus name and that's why we can trust in the Lord that he is in control and that there will be a good day where God is in control over it all there will be a day when we will be in promised land and be in his holiness in his presence and just rejoicing in his ways because there will be no more sorrow no more pain and then in Jesus name we will live our life out praising the Lord for he is good wow despite all the evil devastation pollution of the world goodness and beauty will still exist upon earth this is our

23:40due to God's sovereignty to his moving and working of all things for good to those who truly love and our call to him and the ultimate proof of this was the coming of the ideal son of David the Messiah the Savior of the world Jesus Christ our Lord himself whom God sent to deliver man from his sin from our sin into his righteousness into his presence we are covered by the blood of the lamb we are covered by the the love of God we are covered and we are reconciled and redeemed into his presence and the sovereignty of God is one of the strong teachings of God's holy word he is sovereign and Lord over it all and that's why we worship him and we praise them all the days of our life man this is one of our favorite part the verses Matthew chapter 6 for 13 it says

24:41leaders not into temptation but deliver us from evil for your kingdom and the power of your glory reigns forever and ever amen to see we pray to God to lead us not into temptation to deliver us from evil for your kingdom is the power and the glory forever and ever amen it's the power and glory and don't you know that as Christians we live in power from power to power from glory to glory from breakthrough to breakthrough from victory to victory from breakthrough to breakthrough you see we live from faith to faith and strength to strength we live in victory because Jesus has overcome the grave Jesus has overcome in victory over sin and death over the world the world is his and his to give and God is the creator the heaven and earth he is the landlord he is

25:42the one that gives to you rosy Bradley he's the one that loves you he's the one that leads you and that's why we ask God to not lead us into temptation but lead us into his righteousness deliver us from evil into his righteousness into his goodness so we seek the Lord all the days of our life in Acts chapter 17 verse 24 God who made the world and all things since he is the Lord of the heavens and the earth he does not dwell in the temples made by hands he does not dwell just on earth or in heaven he's the creator of all things people think oh well God he lives in heaven and that's just where he is they try to box him up but God is not in a box God is above the heavens above the earth he's above all things and he said I will live in you when you accept me as your lord and savior I will send you the Holy Spirit to live in you and if heaven is the presence of

26:48God then the presence of God is in you that means God is in you because the Holy Spirit is God and he lives in you isn't that great that we have the spirit of God living in us that empowers us that guides us that teaches us that says you are never alone and then you are made vatges in the name of Jesus now you got to just walk with me talk with me read the word of God and work on building the kingdom of God your life will be with purpose with meaning and you will bring blessings upon other people just like I bless you just like I want to walk with you and be a greater greater light in your life because there is no one like our God amen agbadah amen oh God is good and that's chapter 17 verse 24 it says God has made the world and all things in it and since he is the lord

30:01consumers you're meant to be producer producers for God God's people are producers God's people are productive not just consumers in the name of Jesus you are meant for something more something greater and that's why we continue walking in his ways and boldness praising God for he has created us you see our relationships that by loving God loving the Lord your God with all your heart with all your soul with all your might and then that's the first and greatest commandment and then love your neighbors at yourself you see if you love the Lord your God then you will know your creator and when you know your creator then you will know yourself if you do not know God then you will not know yourself because God is the one that created you God is your manufacturer God is your designer God is the one that molds you and you are created in his image and so you just need to

31:03look at God and say hey that's the image of what I am supposed to be I'm supposed to be an image of my Lord Jesus Christ I'm supposed to be the image of my father my Holy Spirit who lives in me my mighty God else should die the God and more than enough else should die God or mighty else should die he is so good and then Jehovah Jehovah my provider and your grace is sufficient for your love is sufficient for me my provider he is provider so we ask for the claim why would we question he is our master and when we are submitted to our master that we know the things about masters will and we will do it without question makes life easier that we can just live life in his presence live upon his will live life upon his story and continue being a light for him what is his will his will

37:28almighty Father you and I have an opportunity to walk in his ways and walk in the ways of our wise God our Savior and be glory and majesty and dominion and power now and forever in men Exodus chapter 15 verse 18 says the Lord shall reign forever and ever God will reign forever and ever on high he is victorious and you have chance to live in victory from victory to victory breakthrough to breakthrough you go from needing breakthrough to carry breakthrough so people come to you for breakthrough and you point them back to Jesus because he is the ultimate one who carries the breakthrough of death of sin he is the carrier of breakthrough and second king chapter 19 verse 28 it says because of your raging against me and because of your arrogance that

38:29come up to my ears therefore I will hook up in your nose and my brother in your lips and I will turn you back by the way which you have come I have come so that I can give you life but then I need to hook you up to turn you back towards the right direction and to give you the truth of the Lord Jesus Christ who loves you who cares for you and who set you free a man and second first Corinthians chapter 29 verse 12 it says both riches and honor come of me come from you and you will overall and in your hand in power in in your hand is power and might and in it lies in your hand to make great and strengthen everyone

39:33and in that hand it is to make great and to give strength to all well both riches and honor come from God riches and honor riches you want riches you want wealth you want prosperity you want success you want hope you want love you want joy riches and honor honor comes from the God respect comes from God God reigns over all our people all angels he reigns over all and in his hand is power in his hand is might in his hand it is to make and give strength to make great of other people glory God and I pray in the name of Jesus that you feel well in Jesus name our sickness is eradicated our darkness eradicated our relational names eradicated that Cali and everyone feel better
