About this episode
Because the people wanted to make Jesus king, Jesus slipped away to a quiet place. He re-emerged only under the cover of darkness while the disciples were caught in a storm in the middle of the Sea of Galilee. In the midst of their terror, Jesus tells them, "Do not be afraid. I am here!" This fifth of seven signs strongly hints that Jesus is not only God, but a God who is with us even in our deepest darkness!

For Reflection:
In the midst of a night of terror, Jesus calls to his disciples from the darkness and waves, telling them, "Do not be afraid. I am here."
- What do you learn here about Jesus' power, authority, and identity? What do you learn about his love for his disciples, and for you?
- The disciples were afraid for so many reasons but they were also terrified by Jesus' approach through the storm! What are the fears that make it hard for you to see and recognize God's presence, in the past or present?
