About this episode
Advent is a season of waiting — not passive, but active, hopeful waiting. The psalmist waits “more than sentries long for the dawn.” A sentry or night watchman cannot hasten the dawn through waiting. Even so, watchful waiting will help them endure the night and to be ready for whatever may come. In hope and trust, we wait on God for what only God can do, ready for whatever God may call us to do when the time comes.

For Reflection:
"I long for the Lord / more than sentries long for the dawn, / yes, more than sentries long for the dawn." (v.6)
- What are you waiting for God to do in your life this Advent?
- We can wait with anxiety or with the expectancy that comes from hope. What helps you to move from anxious waiting to expectant waiting as you learn to trust more in God? (It might be helpful to consider the people, places, and practices that help encourage the changes you desire.)
