Daily Devo | Flesh, Blood, Bread, and Vampires?! (John 6:47-59)
About this episode
After the feeding of the multitudes, crowds gathered around Jesus seeking something more. Jesus obliged their desire by offering them his flesh and blood. In fact, he insisted that they must eat his flesh and drink his blood in order to have eternal life. Unsurprisingly, the crowds were shocked and appalled at the suggestion. What did Jesus mean when he insisted on this shocking directive? How do we, today, feast on the flesh and blood of Jesus?

For Reflection:
When questioned, Jesus did not retreat from his suggestion. In fact, he insisted even more strongly that we must feast on his flesh and blood.
- We are not told in the text why Jesus was so insistent on pushing this metaphor without explanation. It seems that it was his intent to shock and challenge his listeners. Do you have any guess as to why Jesus did so?
- How do you obey Jesus' command? How do you feast on the flesh and blood of Jesus? How does Jesus' sacrificial love feed and sustain you?
