Curry Leaves Alabama for South Florida

0:00On March 24th, Christie Curry is stepping away from Alabama women's basketball after 13 seasons to take over at South Florida. USF announced the higher on Tuesday March 24th. At Alabama, she compiled a 244 wins and 172 losses record, including a 23 and 10 mark this season. That earned a 5th NCAA tournament birth in 6 years. Earlier this week, Curry wrapped up 5 straight, 21 seasons with the Crimson Tide, matching a school record held by just one other coach. She helped Alabama climb the SEC ranks, finishing in the top 6 three straight years before slipping to 11th this season. Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne praised Curry's work, and turning the program around and getting it back to the postseason. He shared on social media that the school appreciates her contributions and wishes her family well as they begin a national search for her. Replacement Curry arrived at Alabama ahead of the 2013 to 2014 season when the team was struggling in conference play.

1:01She recently signed an extension through 2030 that raised her salary to $700,000 a year. Now at South Florida, Curry plans to build on a solid foundation there toward conference titles and more NCAA runs. Alabama states committed to growing women's basketball amid this transition.
