Cowboys Lock in Pickens with Franchise Tag

Team owner Jerry Jones made it clear they still want a long-term deal to keep him secure beyond that. Negotiations for an extension haven't even kicked off yet, so Pickens can't hit the team's facilities right now. Signing with another squad is a long shot too, since it had cost him two first round picks. Cowboys head coach Brian Schadenheimer kept a chill when asked about Pickens skipping the voluntary off season program. He said everyone's on board with the process, they love having GP around and they've got big plans for him long-term. Pickens balled out last year with 93 catches, 1,429 yards, nine touchdowns, and his first pro-bowl trip. That chemistry with Dak Prescott and pairing him with CD-LAM makes one of the league's top duo threats. These contract standoffs are Cowboys tradition, often dragging out before massive deals get done.
