This deal came after some behind-the-scenes tension, but it seals him as a cornerstone for the team. Coming out of the USFL last year, Aubrey hit with stricted free agency this off-season. The Cowboys slapped a second-round tender on him worth $5.8 million for one year, giving them control and forcing any suit or two. Caught up a draft pick. Aubrey, a Plano native, always wanted to stay home with the Cowboys after three strong pro-ball seasons. He pushed his agent to wrap things up fast, skipping the usual slow-drag of negotiations, and the team met him halfway without much public drama. The new contract kicks Aubrey to the top of all NFL kickers with $7 million a year and $20 million guaranteed. The 20-26 season ties back to that tender before the extension really rolls in 20-27.
