Cowboys' Defensive Overhaul for 2026 Season

Their offense was solid, ranking second in yards and top 10 and scoring, but the defense dragged them down hard. Now in the offseason, they're overhauling that unit big time for 2026. They kick things off with a massive defensive staff shake-up, hiring 34-year-old Christian Parker from the Eagles as the youngest defensive, coordinator and team history. Parker's already assembled a fresh crew, pulling in college hot shots, like Scott Simmons for inside linebackers from SMU. From Georgia and Marcus Dixon for the D-line from the Vikings, these guys bring pedigrees and turnovers, rushing stops and sacks. On the roster front, they traded away defensive tackle Osa Odihizua for Capralief, and signed vets like 320-pound Otito Obaniya, and 290-pound Jonathan Bullard on Proved deals.

1:07To rebuild the pass rush after shipping out Michael Parsons, they grabbed Rashan Gary from Green Bay for a future fourth-round pick he's got, double-digit sacks recently. In the secondary, Jalen Thompson landed a three-year, $33 million packed, plus corner Kobe Durand and safety PJ Locke for death. Financially, they were $55 million over the cap in February, but restructured deals for Dak Prescott, CD Lamb, and Tyler Smith to free up. 66 million, leaving 16 million in space. They've also got interior beasts like Kenny Clark and Quentin Williams from earlier trades ready to anchor the line. With two first-round picks in the April 23rd to 25th draft, and this new defensive vibe, the Cowboys look prime to bounce back and compete in 2026.
