On March 14th, a couple from Coventry finally made it back home after getting stranded in Thailand due to the Middle East conflict. Sarah Blackwell and her partner, Kevin Brown, had jetted off on February 21st for a TUI Package holiday to celebrate Sarah's 50th birthday. Their return flight I canceled on February 28th because of airspace issues, leaving them waiting for updates from the tour operator. TUI handled things in date order for customers, so the pair tried to make the most of their time by renting a moped and chilling at their resort with, a swim-up pool room. By March 9th, they shifted to emergency apartments, and a couple days later, Qatar Airways stepped in with a special direct flight from Pouquette 2, Manchester. The situation turned their relax and getaway stressful, as they couldn't leave the resort much in case a flight came up suddenly. Sarah called it a mindset shift from vacation mode to feeling stuck abroad, though the new digs were okay, despite May food options. That special flight on March 13th faced a takeoff delay from an engineering snag, which felt nerve-wracking at first.
Once airborne, everything smoothed out on the unusual route dodging restricted airspace with economy packed, but premium sections mostly empty. Thanks to TUI covering costs, they landed safely at Manchester Airport on March 14th, breathing a huge sigh of relief after the whole ordeal.
