Country Joe McDonald, Anti-War Icon, Passes Away

He was 84 years old and had been dealing with Parkinson's disease. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Kathy Mcdonald, along with five children and four grandchildren. Born on January 1st, 1942 in Washington, D.C., he grew up in a Los Angeles area and joined the Navy as a teen, serving three years in Japan. In 1965, he started the band with guitarist Barry Melton, shaping the San Francisco music scene through counter-culture tunes, most. Famously in anti-Vietnam War protests song, he performed at Woodstock in 1969 for nearly half a million people. After the group broke up in 1970, he stayed active in causes, supporting Vietnam veterans through groups like Vietnam Veterans Against The. Horror and Swords to plowshares to help them with health, housing and stability.
