Council Slammed for 3-Year Delay in Child's Therapy

The case involves a child known as Y, whose original plan from January 2022 included occupational therapy and speech and language therapy, while attending mainstream school. The trouble started in September 2022 when Y began secondary school but stopped attending by January 2023. The council launched an emergency review that month and issued an education otherwise than at school planned through 2023, but it never delivered the required therapies because they couldn't find suitable providers. An attempted update in December 2023 wasn't finalized. The child's mother faced huge frustration from poor communication, lack of details on personal budgets for support, and delays that blocked her from, appealing to a tribunal for almost three years.
