This is Mary Harris from Slates What Next Podcast with a message brought to you by farmers' insurance. Yep, this is an ad. No two ways about it. Farmers paid my show to tell you about their refreshingly transparent approach to insurance. Like how you get a clear breakdown of your policy with coverage on a page. That's all I have to read. Therapy's biggest impact doesn't show up in some dramatic breakthrough. It shows up in the smallest moments. You bite your tongue instead of escalating. Hello and welcome to Core. This is Core, where we talk about video games. I'm Scott Johnson and I'm hopped up on vaccines. Joining me today, we have John Musashi is his middle name Jagger. Oh man, I wish that'd be a cool middle name. You know what I like? I feel like there would have been a little appropriation with it. But that's a cool middle name. It's a very cool name and turns out a cool protagonist to a very cool game, which we're going to talk about a little more today. One of us beat it. I'll let you guess who it was. I'm Benton Scott. You think it's your money's on me? All right. I got a good feeling about it. I think Scott beat the game. Well, Bo is not here yet. He will be though. He had an appointment. He's going to join us show in progress. Watch for Bo joining us. Probably about a half an hour from now or so as what we expect. Get used to it. Get ready. We're going to talk about a game he hasn't played anyway to start things off today. We may as well just get going. Here it is. I'm
only moussa the way of the sword or just way of the sword. There's no the John talked about it at length last week. Gushed much love around it. And then immediately beat it this week between the last time we spoke. And I played it. I got it after the show. Played it a bunch. I'm not near the end, but I'm, you know, I'm early, but I'm having a really good time with it. And the thing that sticks out is what you said last week about how when you start the game, they start breadcrumbing the ability stack to you, you know, like slowly, but surely you're getting trained, but you're having fun while you're doing it. And every time I get to something where I was like, oh, shit, that's a thing I didn't do before. Why aren't we too far into this to teach me a new thing? No, that's what John said. The game's constantly giving you some new way to hone your skills or to use what you've already learned in some new way. And that really stands out. And it's a lot of fun. I also didn't expect it to be
so freaking funny. There's like legit humor in this thing. So those who are worried that it's this grim dark samurai blood fest, whatever, you're going to get a bunch of that, but you're not, it's not all that. He's kind of a funny character. And it's really good. But I don't want to, you guys don't want to hear my early play in the game. What you want to hear is John's take now that he's beaten it and did it rise to the number one slot in his best games of the year so far? Or did it not, John? Oh, wait, we're, John's out of the thing. Hold on. We're bringing him in. We're bringing him back. He's coming back. He's, he's there. He's muted, but he's there. Hello, you're back. Hi, John. I'm back. Well, I didn't know I lost it. And it was like, oh, you're starting to show I see. It's starting to show. Well, now's the perfect time for me to go. Said the internet. Did not know I was lost or I was alone in there for a minute. But anyway, so I, uh, that just, I just gave a brief chat on what I think so far, early, strong impressions,
having a great time. But since you beat it, let's hear the real skinny from John. Oh, we're on to only mooshy. Yeah, I lost you right at the start of the show. Oh, well shit. We're even talking about. All right. Only moosh is the game and John beat it the same. That's right. Yeah. Hi, everybody. Uh, only mooshy. Hey, Scott, man, it's so good to hear your like of the game. Well, it's really good. Let me tell you real quick what I just said about this one part. The game is really good at going, here's a thing to do. And I go, oh, okay, cool. I can do this thing. Oh, that was satisfying thing to do. I guess I'll be using that for the rest of this game. And then later they'll go, Hey, remember that thing you learn how to do with the sword and the thing. And I go, yeah, well, you need to change it up a little for this boss or for this thing or this new kind of character. You can't fight it the way you did before. So tweak your, your play a little bit with this new thing. And now that will change the way the old thing works. And you're like, oh, yeah, okay, these are evolving. And that's how I felt so far through through what I played is just lots of iterating on what already is working in the games. It's like, no, you're not, this is like,
you're in class a little bit. And every time you do one of these missions or these levels or whatever, you're going to come in here and you're going to think you know, and then you're going to have something kind of happen. Sometimes story related and you're going to go, oh, I don't have enough tools yet. New tool who does and then integrated into your thing. It's really good at doing that. Yeah, it builds and it builds through the entire game, which is really refreshing as well. Because it keeps the game feeling fresh. Like I was, you know, I was probably 10, 15 hours into the game. And it was like, hey, here's a new thing that you haven't been able to do that now you can add to your repertoire. And at no point does the game go. And now because you have it, you're going to face roll everything. Like it's a constant like, okay, you're a little better, but things are getting a little harder. Okay. So now we'll make you a little better, but now things are getting a little harder too. And you get a little better, but things are going to get harder. And it's a real steady curve to where I never felt like I was operating at a significant disadvantage,
but I never felt overpowered either. And it like the times I felt overpowered in the game were the times where I got good. You know, like I developed the skills and the knowledge needed to get through whatever it was I was facing. And so I did beat the game. I really love this game. Definitely one of my favorite games of the year. Capcom killing it. Where is it sitting on that list of, is it in the top three still, but just third or it might be in the top three. It's hard to say like Capcom this year gave me Resident Evil Requiem, which was exactly what I wanted. Like and it's what if a game you were really hyped for and really excited for landed in every way that you wanted it to and and was just what you wanted. Then pragmatta from a story perspective, you know, I was
crying like a baby at the end of that game. Like I was, you know, I'm really emotional storytelling that connected with me. This is kind of the opposite. This is like gameplay first. The story is kind of me like in terms of the actual story itself is kind of just a story, but the characters and the way they flesh out those characters make you care about the story in an immense way. Like it's what's crazy to me is that because they do the work on, you know, your protagonist Musashi is awesome. Yeah. And like he's really entertaining a really interesting character and they they do a lot with a little, you know, like it's not like they spend a ton of time being like, no, you really got to get to know this guy. It feels like they spend just enough time for you to understand these characters and it's enough to where when the story beats hit, even though they're not the most
revolutionary biggest story beats in the world, you care about it. I mean, even the villain, like the big villain of the game, himself, there is no like nuance to him. It is the most like and I'm a villain to be a villain because it's so good. What are your goals? Be a baddie, but he's so entertaining in how he's depicted, how he interacts is a little dance that he does. Like all that stuff is so good that you care about him and that it elevates him. And it's proof that you don't have to have some not that I'm saying you can never do this. Like I think both are good, but you you don't have to have a Thanos was right kind of villain to have a compelling villain. They just have to be an entertaining foil for your hero. And that's what exists here. Also, the final boss fight is one of the most
satisfying boss fights I have ever played. Chad says it's very sweaty. Would you agree? Yeah, I mean, I try I've worked on the fight for about an hour. Yeah. Like one fight for an hour. Now obviously I died a bunch and that's not like the fight is an hour long, but like the way that fight started for me was I immediately died in a single hit. Oh shit. I was like, all right, let's do this. Now big part of that, I did not go into that fight at full health and some modifications on how I was walking into that fight needed to be made slightly. Even then, I think I could have gone into that fight a little better. It turns out like you can you can have maybe your super meters and stuff full and I was not in that state, but I was at least like, well, I should be at full health for this fight probably. You're not fighting. You ever found that's a spoiler to ask because I don't know. There's a character named Nakamura early on. The big guy.
Takamura. Takamura, sorry. Yeah. Nakatomi Plaza, Bill Clay, you know the one. He's cool and I just want to see him again. Tell me I get to see him again later. I'm not that far. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. That's all I care about. I love him. Yeah. You're going to probably hear me talk about Takamura in best characters of 2026. Oh, interesting. I love Takamura. He is great. He's a charm right off the bat. I really like him. He is. And it like, so I played the game in English and I got to tell you like his voice reminds me of like, Gimli or Salah from Indiana Jones. I know it's the same actor. It reminds me of all the roles played. But it's just that big grandiose kind of friendly voice and I just loved the performance. And I don't know how I'm
going to be able to convince people why I put him on the list without spoiling a bunch of stuff. But I think he's a fantastic character. Yeah. It really makes a good strong impression early on. And I'm excited to see how it plays out. My question to you, you mentioned the English voice acting, which is also what I'm doing. The choice to have everyone speak with British accents is an interesting one. It doesn't bother me at all. At this point, at first it was a little jarring because I was like, I expected, I don't know, I don't know what I expected. Like most of these games, they have some sort of Asian influence accent of some sort Japanese accent for something like this. But they don't at all. They all sound like Game of Thrones characters. Yeah. How do you how do you feel about that? I liked it. I thought it sounded good. I think it's worth I think it's worth noting that they may sound like they are speaking with a British accent. They are. But these are all Asian actors. Oh, interesting. These voices. I didn't know that.
For the most part, at least I believe so. Like if you go to the IMDB, and I will say probably not across the board, before I get in trouble for saying 100%. Yeah. Yeah. Someone will come after you for that. Yeah, I can already see a few that are that are not. But it is a case of yet like, yes, that's the accent. But it's not like they have Nigel British person voicing these Asian characters. Nigel British person. That's good. Yeah. That was just the accent they happened to have. So it's an interesting choice. And I don't know if the old Ooni Moosh's that had vo had any of that. I don't know. I don't know what the lineage is here. So I could probably have checked that out. But I do. Yeah. It reminds me of like what you used to see anytime any any like historical piece came out of the UK where everybody still had a British accent. And maybe it just been trained
for that. Now that said, like historically Ooni Moosh games do not have the best track record with the English dub. So if you want to play it in Japanese, I think that performances they are really good too. Although I will say I have watched a lot of both. I think at least in terms of the villain. I think the villains better in English. Oh, I almost never said I almost never say that. But I really like I got to figure out who did the voice. Yeah. For someone we know might be. Let me see. Let me see if we can figure out who did the villains voice in English. I like the so while you're looking at up, you mentioned the story is serviceable and is fine. But it's just combination of things that make it all work. And that's what actually kind of what I like about the tone of it right from the get go. It's like pulpy. It's like pulp. Samurai fiction that is not afraid to be a little funny.
And you know, let the character be a more new, not just a broody guy, but like a nuanced character with like, I don't know. He seems like he's been around and he likes things and, you know, he's like a normal dude. And there's not all dour all the time. I guess that just took me off guard. And it just makes the whole the whole package just feel a little more charming because what you're doing and where you're doing it, it's kind of gnarly out there. Like it's dark and gritty and bloody and awful and these mushroom guys and you know, all this stuff you got to fight. It's it's all very kind of psycho. But I don't know. They they somehow made it just like, you know, do your worst. And it's like just kind of a he's a little bit of a dick, but he's kind of funny in that way. I don't know. It's hard to explain, but I really like the guy. So this is crazy. I had to look I looked to this up and I couldn't believe it as I read this. All right. So the voice the English voice actor for the man in white, I guess is the closest, but I don't know if it's a spoiler to say the actual
name of the character, Don, I think you have to be a historical buff to care. But just in case we'll say the man in white, the the baddie of the game is voiced by I'm probably going to mess up the name Shogo Mayakita. Okay. Who also voices the English dub of Takamura. He plays both characters. Oh, really? So you've met both of those. Yeah. The man in white and Takamura is the same guy. What? So my two favorite performances probably from this. It is the same dude. That's a help solidify your your. It's really good. Yeah, that's really great. An amazing job. I can say that the Nakamura Takamura guy lives in impression immediately. Like without hardly not a talk. He talked to him for a second and you're like, Oh, where are we going with this guy? Like I got so excited when he showed up. And yeah, I just think it's I think it's so far really cool. Like I really like it. And I'm not like you. I wasn't like a big only mousha guy on the PS2 or anything or whatever that was PS2, I
think. Or was it? Yeah, it's PS2. Yeah. So for me, this is like a little bit fresh and sounds like you really dug it. So yeah, big, big thumbs up from everybody here. I'm going to keep at it. See how hard it gets later on with like how much bang in my head against the wall. I'm going to have to do. But it's many bosses have you faced one or two. Sorry, two. I did. He fought Gonryu. Yep. I guess that's his name. Don't remember the guy, the rival Samurai guy. Right. I did him all then three because I've done him, which is kind of your opener, right? And then later I fight during the place where you're running through all the little rooms and shutting and opening sliding doors and then out in the courtyard, you have a big fight with a boss guy there. It's more of a mini boss, but I fought that guy. Got something big out of that. What was that? Anyway, did that? And then somebody after that. Oh, the big, the big, the big, big, over guy. Yeah. Yeah. So that's where I'm at.
I've won all three, died in the third one once lived and killed it. That's good. That's good, though. Are you playing on story or action? Action or whatever medium is the default. The default. Yeah. And so far so good. Like, and it'll let me switch down if I get to a place. Look, it's not that Scott sucks at games. It's that Scott has no patience for this. I have like my patience is thinner than water when it comes to like being in my head against like souls likes and part of the problem with souls likes. I'm not saying this is one of those, but my problem with souls likes in general is that difficulty curve just feels like I'm not only being in my head against a boss or a fight or whatever, but then I've got to backtrack. And then often I have to make up for stuff I'm now losing because I'm losing these fights and a lot of those games. That's where my beef is because I feel like it doesn't respect my time. That is not to say that it shouldn't be this huge genre that it is. And it is for a reason. And people love it. And I'm happy they're good in the games they want. But my kind of schedule just doesn't allow for that kind of that kind of self punishment.
This isn't one of those. So even when things get tricky and I die in some glorious way, the deaths are great. Yeah. You say every try. Yeah, you say every try and you go back and you do it again. It's very it's a auto-save feature is very generous about where you're at at any given time. Like this is meant to be a third person action game that doesn't make you go backtrack or make sure that you spend all your shit at some weird location. And then oh no, I've lost it all because I died between here and there trying to get back. Like none of that stuff isn't here. The biggest punishment in this game and I kind of like how they do it is that because the souls are a mechanic and they it gets bigger and bigger the more you go. Like when you hit somebody, souls will pop out of them and you know when you kill somebody a big bunch of souls pops out and you can absorb those is not so much in the early game, but especially as you get later, the different color souls give empower different abilities. And so if you get hit by an attack that
knocks it out of you, sometimes the enemies will eat it and it will empower them. And I know the big ogre guy, he was like that where he would eat them and get more powerful, but also it works as a denial. So whereas dark souls kind of had this historic like oh you died, we'll try again, but now it's going to be harder, which was always like, wait, but I failed the first time. Why is it going to be harder now? This doesn't really have that. You can retry right away, but within the fight self-contained, if you're getting hit all the time, you are making it harder on yourself. Because you're going to you're going to hit in rages and crazy your things that the bosses can do and even just like lose the ability to use some of your special abilities because they're pulling those souls out of you as the fight is going on. So I like that kind of instant push pull of the difficulty, which it's a little punishing, but not as brutal as like, okay, run
back to your body and do this. Now I like both, but I really liked where this was at. And like I said, that final boss, the treadmill to get better, to go from like dying in a single hit to then like, okay, I can get through the first phase, but then I died in the second phase. I didn't even get to see what he did. I was like, what just happened? I just died. Is it cutscene and then I'm dead? What did I miss? Sure. And now I got to go through the whole first phase again, which I only felt like I just got through. And then, you know, before I knew it, when I finally beat the game, they have a feature where you can go back and you can try and fight any boss you have fought a second time. And they were like, you can unlock a special armor if you fight all the bosses again. And I was like, well, I'm going to do that. Or you are. Yeah, you're John Jagger. That's what you did. So I was like, I'm going to beat every boss two times. And I kept up with it as I went through the game, which was always kind of interesting because there were some fights. There was one fight in particular
where I got it on the first try. It was a rematch with Gonryu. And it sounds like a best TD by the way, but it does. He's got a yeah. And I think, you know, when you look at the fight, he might have. But the first time I had that fight, it was no problem. I was like, oh man, this was kind of a, I don't want to say disappointing, but like I was expecting this to be a bigger spectacle. It seemed like it should have been a bigger fight. And I got it on the first try. And then I went and I did the rematch. Oh, I was on that rematch for what felt like ever, especially for a fight that I beat on the first try. So like a boss rush kind of thing. Or do you, how do you choose these fights? Do you have to go through the game again? Or how do you go? No, you just talk to, you, you ring a little bell. I don't know if you've gotten to where he'll show it to you, but talk more basically gives you this bell you ring. And then you can do training to practice abilities. And then you can also fight
any boss you fought before. It's just a list of, oh, okay. That's cool. I actually kind of like that. And, and then they just mark if you, if you finished it or not. And so, I really struggled with that. And it was, it's cool to like, oh, you know, I didn't really learn the fight. I just managed to, I got lucky on one run. And then I had to actually learn the fight. Well, it was cool about the final boss is he's like, yeah, he's really challenging. But when I got to the, okay, do it a second time, I got it on the second attempt. And the first attempt was a real like, oops, I forgot, oops, I forgot, oops, I forgot, oh, I'm dead. And then I, I was like, okay, let's find our flow state again. Let's get back in here and let's, let's try again. And I got it right away because it wasn't a case of like, oh, I just finally got lucky. It's a case of learning. And there is a real satisfaction with these games with the seams insurmountable. I can't get over it. There's no way I'll be able to do
this. And then it turns into not only can I do this, but I can do this exceptionally well whenever I want to now. Right. Yeah. And I really like that feeling. And I really like how that, how that plays out. And I think that curve for the final boss is just so satisfying. Even the, even the early goings kind of feel like this, there's a feeling of this throughout. Based on what you're saying, because I can feel it just in the early, it's like, satisfying kills with just brandos. And I go, well, I can't, I was hard the first time, but you know what, that parry's not that bad. That window is okay. I can deal with this or I can deal with that. And then you're just dispatching them left and right. And they don't get boring because watching the thing get sliced in half and have the top half slide off out of the ground will never get old. Yeah. So I'm glad to hear that it maintains that kind of, you know, vibe to the whole thing. So I'm stoked. John's review,
basically it got me more excited than ever. Plus who was it last week, Pop and Fresh, getting me the game, well, that kind of sealed the deal. So a huge thanks to him again for that. If you had to give it a grade, let's give it a 10 out of 10, old men from hell. How many, how many do you give it? I would give this, I give this at a nine or a 10. Like the thing is, I don't think it's perfect. Like if you want to know what my criticisms are, I think it gets a little same. You spend a lot of time in the same area running around. A lot of the side quests feel more like chores than actual like fun quests to do. But the gameplay around it and the boss fights are so good that it makes doing that stuff. Okay, and fun. And also like, I don't know about other people. Maybe other people are just, you know, no, I need the adrenaline all the time. Just adrenaline adrenaline adrenaline. I need it a
chance to wind down. You know, sometimes in a story, you might, you might only have one boss, but you might have a run of two or three bosses in a row before you're like back at the hub, doing hub stuff. And like, especially them when you turn around, you're like, okay, well, I got to fight all those bosses again, because I was doing it twice. Like at a certain point, I'm like, I need to just do something like level. I just need to level out a little. I need the less of these like adrenaline spikes in my life. And so when it was just like, okay, run across the map, maybe you get in a fighter to fight a simple monster, although I will say like, even the simple monsters that you're like, I'll just mash through this. If you, if you get in your own way a little too much, they will humble you. Like even at high levels, I was goofing because I did get the special armor you get for fighting everything twice. I hate it, but I just want to extra effort for something I will absolutely never wear in the game. But it's ugly. You don't like the look
of the thing. I mean, it's fine. Like, it's a very, I'm sure there is a culturally authentic reason for it, but it is not to my aesthetic. I'll say that. You know, if you've ever seen like classic samurai looking outfits and garb, sometimes you look at some of that stuff and you're like, for my sensibilities of a person in 2026 that grew up in America, not my sensibility. Sure. You know, I think they lost me at one of those kind of like pointy hats. Oh, I don't really like the pointy hats. Don't either. Hard for me to take them serious, you know? Yeah. And I was like, I don't like that pointy hats. It's fine. It's fine. But, um, but yeah, I was running around. I was like, I got my new outfit. I'm going to run around. I'm the best samurai ever. And I died from just a random assortment of creatures on the road because I was just goofing around too much. The game is never afraid to be like, well, we're going to humble
you a little bit here because you, you have stopped engaging with the game actively. And I think that that's really cool. Yeah. It's cool, man. Guys should all be playing it. I'm going to keep at it. If I didn't get distracted by something very dumb this week, I would, uh, I would have gotten farther. But there will be more play. Oh, and I'll say this, uh, runs extremely well over G force now. Um, I had a situation where Windows was borked and I couldn't run my PC. I was like, I really want to play this tonight. And man, it looked good over G force now. It might, might mostly be about fiber, but whatever it was, it just was silky smooth. It makes me, I, I don't think they're ever going to do this, but I wish Capcom would license the RE engine to other devs because it's so clean, runs so well, looks so good and is so optimized without all those launch issues. Every time they've made a game this year, they come out and they just freaking work. It's just a video game that works. And then, and then really well at that, right? Whatever that is,
let's have more of that less, you know, let's have maybe unreal, not dominate everything. Let's get one of these awesome engines from the east. Let's start with the RE engine and, you know, let's go license it out. Make a little extra Capcom money. That's what I'm saying. Monster 104. Forget it. RE engine one. 0.0 available now. Uh, all right. Well, that's awesome. Now, let's go down a path. I've been telling you about a couple of games first, but then I'm gonna, oh, you know what, I want to play this call. This dude wrote this in a, this guy called this in about only moushits worth hearing one of our, one of our listeners sort of say where he's coming from on it. So here you go. Hey, Corboy's Nick from Supreme Field Mass here. I just wanted to give a quick shout out to Onamusha, Wave the Sword. For my money, it's my earliest game of the year contender. I think this game is just about as close to perfect as I can imagine. Um, third person action, they made Onamusha funny, which I don't remember it being funny. I mean, granted I played it 25 years ago and I
was a sophomore junior in high school. So it's been a while. But uh, this game is awesome. Like 10 out of 10 no notes. I'm about six hours in and I am loving every second of it. I hope, uh, at least John, if not someone else on the cast has played it today or played it this week. All right, guys, love the show. Keep it up. Bo. Good luck on your, on your coding. I love to, love to hear you do and that stuff, man. All right. Bye. I will pass that on to Bo when he shows up at, uh, but yeah, another, another, uh, you know, another fan of the game out there. Listen, it's a surprise hit. I mean, I know after I played Prague mod, and we were like, well, they still have one game coming this year. You know, there's still one game. They got only motion. It was like, oh, yeah, that's coming to and it felt like an afterthought in a lot of ways. And it's a callback to an old series and all of that. And it was like, well, how's, how's this going to go? And I am shocked that it like, I'm going to have to do a lot of thinking on what I, what I think carried my year, you know,
was it the met exceptionally high expectations? Was it a sleeper hit? Was it the emotions that had elicited? Was it something else? And now, like, I don't know what's going on with, uh, this, dangerous talk for sure right now, especially there's a minefield about this website for good reasons. But I haven't seen a year where IGN just feels like they're throwing out tens like it's going out of style. They're like, this gets a 10, this gets a 10, this gets a 10. And now the new Fire Emblem fortunes weave or whatever. Uh, got another 10, didn't it? Got a 10. Yeah, just, I gotta tell you, I've been watching coverage of its got. It looks really good. John, no, okay. It looks really good. But how much, how much datey shit do I have to do? I have heard that it is about, uh, it is less, it's less than three houses. Okay. If it's less than three houses,
and a little more than the other straight, more straight action ones, I think less than three houses and it's integrated, what I've heard is it's integrated more into it's not just dating. Yeah. It's like, there is a section of the game that is for social stuff. But that isn't necessarily like, oh, make characters kiss, especially because I don't think they like have kids, mechanic is a mechanic in this game. No, no, thanks. So it's just like, do you want to engage with that? And there are also other things you can do. So I've heard it's kind of divided into thirds, um, in terms of what you are doing, like one third tactical combat, one third map exploration, one third social stuff. Brendan, uh, Brendan Graber who did the review, summed it up by saying, Fire Emblem, Fortune's weed provides excellent pairing of combat strategy and management with compelling stories spread across all four of its heroes that comes together in, uh, to form one phenomenal RPG 10 out of 10. Well, you know what I think got me, though,
is like, so awakening you and I really, really love love awakening. Yeah. Um, and then after awakening, they got on this trend of like multiple stories like, oh, do you want to play this story or that story or do you want to follow this character, that character? And it became a real prevalent like thing in their games. Um, and this game, it sounds like they're kind of doing that again. But you get to engage with all four stories on the same playthrough as the same character. Oh, wow. So basically you're following four characters. Are there four characters that you can choose from and their stories will intersect and divide and all of that. But at any point, you can go back in time to this hub and start the other character and see what led them up to a point. And then eventually they all converge. And I think that sounds awesome. Oh my gosh, we're going to get this game. You don't have to deal with the FOMO. Yeah. Which is what I struggled
with with three houses was like, I'm picked this person right now. They kind of seem like a chud and I don't want to really follow this person anymore. It looks really good. Yeah. I think that looks a me. Oh, I just saw giant butt above your head. I'm going to go ahead and let Boeing. Look at it. Hold on. Yeah. Look at that. Wow. All right. Hold on. Oh, shit. Oh, my gosh. So loud. But I can fix that. I can fix that. I think that's a me thing. Hi, Bo. You're back. Hi. Hi. How are you? I'm all right. Yeah. Back from the, whatever appointment you had in your, uh, physiotherapist, physiotherapist. Ah, physiotherapist. What does that? What do they do? What's the deal with those guys? Muscles and stuff. Of course it's trees. My neck has been. He's been doing too much sport. Yeah. Too much sport. I can't sit at my desk too long. I get neck pain. So it's just, it's been going away. But I had a major flare-up over the past few weeks and, you know, good to get a check. The muscles are, well, the muscles are tight. So I got, you know,
therapeutic massage along the jaw. It's TMJ thing. Yeah. Yeah. Look at jaw pain and neck pain. Anyway, who is it? You get a happy ending? Yeah. The lady do it. Oh, okay. Okay. Guys, don't be gross. Don't be gross, John. Please don't be gross. If you can. Well, I mean, I'm saying she's aware I do a show. All she got to do is Google my name and come in here. Oh, it's a, it is a lady. Oh, okay. I was getting around. She held in my carpal tunnel syndrome by, by putting, with the acupuncture like years ago. I was like, oh, she's just really awesome, actually. Did that work? By the way, where it was at? Yeah. Okay. I haven't had a recurrence since. So I would say yes, getting poked with the, well, it wasn't just poked. She dicks the needle and she's brushing my nerve with the needle. It felt horrifying, but it worked. That's the worst thing I've ever heard in my life. I mean, I don't think they brush it along. It doesn't get brushed along, but it's to help make room in the canal where your, you know, your nerve runs through your wrist. Did that hurt? I know it feels uncomfortable. Yeah, it felt terrible. But after, after the therapeutic event, it's like,
it's been fine. I didn't have like five or six, five years ago, maybe something like that. It was four, five years ago. So I'm going on to answer your question. That is kind of a happy ending, just not the one you were thinking. Yeah, just that we all define our endings happy and different. Yeah. Yeah. No, just, yeah, don't be gross. Well, to you, it's my life is joke. But to me, these people are poor. Here's what's going to happen, though, people are going to ride in and go, Bose telling other people not to be gross on core. That's what they're going to say. No, be gross. Like if you want to talk about the choosing in your own mouth, do it. Oh, geez. Wait, now I want to say don't be gross. Just, just, just leave, leave one for the other. That's all it's saying. Oh, man. He knows that. All right. Well, from that, we move on. So, Bo just to catch up, John gave a very glowing review to his playthrough. He's now finished with Onimusha way of the sword. I started it really enjoying it. And now we're going to move on to the nonsense I played. So welcome, you're caught up. That's where we're at. By the way, I did listen to your Onimusha talk on
the headphones, while I was walking back home. So, oh, good. That sounds like a banger. Yeah. So like something you'd like based on, you know, times. Yeah, I mean, it's really annoying that they release good games because I really like to miss most games if I could help it. Sure. Sure. How annoying is that? I'm in a world now where I'm just annoyed with things are good because they're like, you should really play this. And it's like, I'm busy. So, John, real quick back to Fire Emblem fortunes. We've, that's out now, right? Yeah. It came out today. Shit. I actually had it pre-ordered because I wanted a physical version. I know crazy, right? But Amazon was like, yeah, I know we said we would get this to you by release date, but now we're thinking October 30th. Whoa. So I think that's going to get canceled. Just go digital. I'll just go digital. I don't want to do digital because one, I don't trust Nintendo and digital because I got screwed over there. And I don't care how many comments I get, they'll fix it for I've tried. The library is gone. Nintendo has told me it's gone. I lost a lot of stuff. I don't trust them.
I'm happy it worked out for you. Yeah. Believe me, I wish I could say it did. So, I don't, I just, and I also kind of liked the idea of having physical copies of all my switch games. So, I was like, I wouldn't mind having physical copy of this, but now I've got to, now I got to go digital because like, I don't know why a month and a half delay for something that I pre-ordered before the game came out happened. I don't know why that was that happens at all. It must be, I don't know, they didn't make the shipment or they oversold or I don't know why that's happening. It's really weird. It's a popular series. I know that, but good lord, a whole month and a half, F that. Well, anyway, more on that later, I really want to play that game on a big, I'm an unabashed fan of the Fire Emblems and have played at least two of them multiple times, like beating those games, chat room. Yeah. I didn't beat engage that I got last year that I think is a few years old now, but I really liked it. This sounds like this is meeting,
this is like engage in three houses kind of best of both kind of vibes. This is what I'm reading in this review. I'm very excited. So, looks like we're gonna have to all get that one. Set bow. He isn't like Fire Emblem. Or do you? I don't want to say for you. Do you like Fire Emblem? I don't have time to like to like Fire Emblem. I'm sure it's good. Do you ever play any of them? I look at genres that I'm not into and think like, well, do I really need to be into another genre video game? No. It's probably the smart thing to do. Although, I will say I don't know if Unicorn overlords in the same category, but I did not enjoy my time. I think Unicorn overlord is a little more passive than Fire Emblem. It's a little more odd in battle. It's overall, it's war, but it looks lovely, you know, and I'm just not into it. All right. We're some hot enemies. I'm fine. That's just, you know, yeah, it's good. It's fine. It's totally fine. It's a fan of your PC or your console and you're like, I need to make a decision and the decisions never that. Yeah. So, yeah. Yeah. Get out of town or live
and die this way. I'm thinking, I'm planning to do that. I don't need that. I get you. I get you. Well, let's move on down the road to the two other things that I played and then I'm going to do a dumb experiment. Let's start with this one. I am happy to report there is another card battle banger out there for people. It's one that we all kind of had our eyes on and turns out. It is real good. Sitting at 91%, which is pretty damn high so far, we have Shroom and Gloom. Quick. Thank you to Pop and Friends. You actually gifted me this while we were on the show. I got so excited to see it because I was like, Scott's about to make me think I want this game. And it's already you already own it. That's fantastic. Yeah. I picked it up day one. It's currently in early access, but it is extremely polished to the point of this is clearly just a balance. Yeah, that they're running here. And man, I didn't know where to start with this. I'm really enjoying it. There's something immediately about the vibe of this underground shroomy soy. You can almost
smell this place and I don't mean it in a gross way. It's more like a, I don't know, it's like earthy. Just this hard style is crazy. Really has a vibe to it. And you are doing card battles in the way that you would think you would. And the fights themselves are pretty straightforward. It's like here's some stuff that will maybe beef up your defense. Here are some cards that work well as offense cards. And then here are some passives and other things. But one of the things this thing does that I really like so far is the in between battle stuff is way more interesting than what I'm used to from one of these things. You can see a screenshot here of some of this in action. So no, we can't because it's frozen. Oh shit. Did it freeze again? You're just showing everybody the fire emblem review. And you guys are all, you guys are all frozen too again. Gosh, dang it. Why is this happen? It's really weird. I look so man. OBS go back to the roll back. Is it a priority thing? No, OBS did this thing a while. I'll see his post. It still frozen. He is. They did this thing a while back where they, sorry, I can't think straight. They they
changed something with the way display capture happens. And ever since that update, it does this just every once in a while. So we're still looking at the 10 score on fire emblem fortunes. We fantastic. Let me fix that one too. Well, we just want to remind everybody that it was really good. All right. Hey, Shrooming Gloom guys. Check it out. Shrooming Gloom. We started with the frozen screen. It smells like earth. You said. Yeah. And I had some visuals to go through it. There they are. I looks awesome. I love the look of this game. Yeah. That's you know, I think that. So you're saying the gameplay, it's not just carried on its visual. No, I think it does a lot of that heavy lifting early on and you're like, well, this is going to still be the same dopamine. I'm just doing it in this cool cave environment. You actually move through this cave. So you're you're wing through here. If you're using your keyboard or sticking through here, if you're using your controller, both work really well. I tried both. But you actually have to kind of navigate through. Now, what makes it unique when I was getting at earlier is when you do the actual fighting, you do kind of normal fighting. And then none of that is shocking in terms of the
cards you use or any of that. If you've played these games, you've played slay the spire, those are going to feel familiar where it gets interesting or does some things quite differently is when you get to the areas where you would normally rest, you'll have a set of cards for that. Kind of reminds me, oh, Bo, what's the clay game that both you and I liked? It was you had to intellectual fighting and physical fighting. What was that called? Oh, good. Gryffland. Gryffland's Gryffland's. Yeah. It's a little like that, but not quite. Gryffland's had this thing where you would have conversation battles. And then you would have regular like violent battles. Martyrs Martial combat and then dialogue dialogue combat. Exactly. This isn't quite the same, but there it is the same in that you have a separate card. You can see this happening right here. These separate cards are things like dig and it's like a shovel. One of them is like a bash card. One of these cards is like a key card, so you can unlock a door's lock or a chest if there's a lock on it. You may have collected that key
in a card drop earlier or whatever, but you have these utilitarian cards and you use them to start a fire that you can rest by. You use them to break locks and get the loot inside. If you don't have enough, then you're going to just have to leave it. There's also hazards in there. If you don't deal with them, like reveal one, it may hurt you if you rest overnight, may actually take life once to the saving life. So there's like this weird little camping mini-game that I'm not doing a great job of explaining, but actually works really well. I felt like, and it was super, super fun to do the in between and not just the battles. I think this game is freaking rad. And while there is a lot to love about the vibe and the aesthetic and the look of the thing, it feels just solid overall. The reviews are really good. I think this game is rad. I think this is a banger. And it's only in the access. There's more coming. So yeah. So if you're not interested in playing that, you can wait for the full smear too. Who knows when that'll be, but sometime. Well, it depends. There's two
types of early access games. One's you can keep away from and one's you can't. Yeah. And the one's not interested in who cares. That's like everything else. But like sometimes you look at a game like I buy plenty and don't play them until they're 1.0 and some right away. It looks interesting. So there's also a thing note here. The stuff you're seeing is this kind of underground Rudy looking earthy stuff, but there are two totally different biomes done lock once you get far enough in that one. And one of them is like a hyper techno thing where you're in like, I don't know, looks like burned out server rooms or something. I assume based on the classes, the story is you're like, you work at a high school and you find some kids LSD and take it. You know if it is they haven't been a big boy. Well, there's lunch lady, janitor, paperboy. What are the other classes? Yeah. There are all things you would like, you know, lunch lady in particular is like, you know, you work at a school like I hadn't thought of it. You might be right, though. I mean, maybe at the
end of this lunch lady, I'm just watching activist. Okay, that could be at a high school. Concerned parent. Yeah, definitely high school. Yeah, there's a there's a big concern parent finding LSD and taking it. Yeah. Yeah. I assume you have to have taken it or else what explains the look of this high school. If you have, they have not told you that. But now that you're saying all of this, it makes me wonder how this ends. But yeah, really good. I think this game is getting raised for a good reason and it deserves your time. So check it out. It is called gloom. Sorry, shroom and gloom. Very good. Shroom and gloom. There's also a new ballotrow out or a ballotrow like. Let's call it. And I know I get sucked into these sometimes. Ball ball tro. Whatever it is. The lull tro. Oh, the loop. I saw this. This is called the loop. I thought I was going to recommend this to you
because I saw it as well. And I'm like, Scott's got enough games. Well, it was cheap. It's like eight bucks, seven bucks, something like that. And I went, ooh, kind of like what they're doing here. It's a different take. So what it is, I don't know how to describe this better than they do it. But basically it's this roguelike deck builder, but like ballotrow in a million other games sense because it's kind of a hot thing right now. You have all these synergies, right? You're trying to create weird synergies and you're doing it on a racetrack like a like almost like this eight-bit look in. I don't know. Cool top top down racetrack. Yeah, with a little car on it. And racing isn't so important for you as the player because you don't you're not controlling the race other than you're putting in a bunch of gates that you draw randomly like cards and other other relics and stuff that boosts your chances of like running out of gas slower or when you go through a certain gate doubling the value of that gate and that gate might be it gives you more gas every time you pass through it because you want to go as long as you can because like ballotrow and
some of these other games you're trying to beat a score goal that they give you. And that number gets higher and higher every time you pass it. The loop is real good here. No pun intended. I know the name is loopler but really fun loop and what I like about it is it feels great from the start. It doesn't ever feel like I got a high I got to keep going. I got to unlock more shit and then this game starts to really roll. It feels like it rolls kind of like right off the bat. Some people you can speed it up or slow it down so you can do a faster max speed to you know get through the the actual moment of like here's all this shit I did let's see how it goes and see the race. But it is a slow. I mean you have to wait for this race to complete and so in a way it's auto battling there. You know what I mean? Statistically auto battling you're not fighting anyone you're not even racing anyone even though there's a boss level but it's just that's and numbers and stuff and it's like a car manager or football manager. I'm kind of except it doesn't it's not really
focused at all on the actual you're not driving I imagine you're managing the vehicle. Yeah that's it really and but you're also managing okay the track is now going to have ice on it and that means better better better better loop hero in there. Yeah for sure and you can slow it down mid race to do things you there's a garage where you can like do all kinds of crazy crap to your engine and then when you see it going nuts like this for these huge goals like it's so satisfying dude. It's really good. I think it's got a great name I also say that because this is a game that as soon as I saw it I was like the loopler I have to click this and see what this is so I think you know in a world where we're getting some real weird names with video games I don't remember what was the one you shared recently. It was called fancy realm. Yeah fancy realm. A legend of fancy realm. A legend of fancy realm in a world where that is is what we're getting looplers a fantastic
name. Yeah I kind of like I like it this got a really cool soundtrack just the vibe really good and I don't and it feels really it's super straightforward it doesn't get like it doesn't get so up its own butt that it's this car or this track or that it's anything to do with that it just is very self explanatory about what your bonuses are when you can use them how how that leveling works how to unlock all the relics like it's just a very straightforward it's in the playing where the fun is and I really have been having fun so big wreck on that one again great steam deck game plays beautifully on there no issues and plays great on desktop great great little game so another big recommendation for me from the indie space that game is called loopler loop and it's available now all right on to my ADHD experiment I just wanted to say that whole time. Oh like it kind of does does not the loopler I agree with you so I even made a little splash screen for old school roguelikes Scott's new thing yeah and if you don't know what I'm talking about here's a screen shot
of what they used to look like way back in the day we would have these asky dungeons and you'd move your little lat symbol around and that rogue like it's literally from rogue yeah this is rogue yeah this is rogue everybody and we already I like rogue likes and I like rogue likes and you can still download and play that by the way oh yeah you totally can there's a bunch of those old ones that are still available but I remember these back way back in the pre-doomed days and a bunch of my friends at work were playing them and stuff and I just some young dummy you didn't know about you know where video games are headed and I thought these things were kind of magical back then jump way ahead to 2026 and I kind of missed the vibe and I went on a I went on one of these things I do sometimes I was talking to John pre show but like I did with Assassin's Creed where I'm supposed to be playing Black Flag remake and instead I'm like I'm gonna install them all see what and then be a weirdo right I don't know what that is but I do it sometimes I've done it with tour core that survivors likes you MMOs you name it I'll try it if I'm in this one of these moods and man did I
get in the mood here and I think the responsibility lies with that dungeon game I've been playing where it just boils Diablo down to the to the dopamine yeah and I think that got me thinking about the core of these roguelikes all come from this obviously from Rogue it's why they're called Rogue Likes but what I did is I went and found my favorite six one well fit my fat my five favorites I played five of these that I liked the most I played about 12 I'm not gonna talk about them all five that I liked the most that you can currently get in play and then a special mention of one that kind of cheats a little bit as to what it is but I'm gonna start with this one so in my list uh this ordered best to worst or worst the best these are the top five you know what I'll do worst the best just to make it interesting I like that idea so John good idea so first what I'm gonna talk about is a game called one bit and I'm gonna be really brief with this this is not gonna take me
a bunch of time and I'm gonna eat up our showtime with this I'm just gonna be real short with what these things actually are these notes are here just for my eyeballs but this is a turn-based dungeon crawler you pick your class you get in there retro aesthetics uh little tiny dude moving around every move is a turn it's how these things work so go up that's a turn move white that's a turn if you just sit there nothing happens that's how the old rogue rogue game work that's how roguelikes work that's how this game works and that's kind of the purity I was aiming for here is that kind of thing no meta progression no meta progression you're dead you're dead right now you may unlock other classes because you did good with a class or something like that in some of these games they'll have that kind of progression uh yes as long as it's not power yeah you're not doing power it's it's purge is resurrection like you know it makes the game easier in any way than you're in rogue light exactly this thing just you die and when you're done you are it is a hardcore mode one bit adventure used to be a phone game it's now on steam and is reviewing pretty well for a steam game that used to be a phone game so I thought I'd try it I like to quite a bit it took fifth place
uh next up is a game I heard about when it came out and then forgot about it almost immediately I'll start with the classic version of it first because that's it's this is complicated because it's actually newer and in early access right now the more modern one is older I saw you playing this I've played Jupiter hell before yeah Jupiter hell is cool so Jupiter hell classic is the one that's currently in early access you can see there's like a little doom guy which is appropriate because this is based on the original doom rl version of this game like a doom based you know rogue like that's doom rogue yeah doom rogue basically it's what stands for you're right doom rogue like I guess I don't know anyway uh Jupiter hell is it's kind of that it's uh sort of turn based very purely that it's remake of the asky style rogue like experience you move around on a grid grid you're on a desolated uh base on Mars there are zombies creatures aliens it's basically lifted from doom without their permission it always was um and they're remaking it making it new again
and I really like it got this retro aesthetic tons of weapons um lots of ranged weapons which is less common in these games usually it's a lot of hand to hand stuff and it's real simple you move forward if a guy's next to you bump into him to mail him if he's far away you can shoot um you know whatever weapon you have you're swapping weapons all the time improving them they have better stats and it's cool game's really good I gave it fourth place and it tied with its uh it's uh modern cousin see if I can get this one to load here here we go it's my modern cousin although it came out before which makes it a little bit weird that they didn't in this order but this is Jupiter hell oh I see yeah yeah yeah and this one's a lot that's as you can see here this is like oh lighting and 3d dudes and it's a modern one I've played yeah yeah it's quite good again it just sticks to the old method every move is a is a uh is it every directional thing is a grid movement and when you move
the enemies move and it's always procedurally generated like these things are meant to be nothing's ever the same you're never in the same room twice and you die a lot and it's hardcore death and you're dead and you want to play again you go play it it's a very pure for me one of my favorite OG gameplay types ever made and these both of these do a really good job of it and I put them in fourth place in third a game okay do you guys remember the game uh the dude that made that game bone razor minions do you remember me talking about that no it was it was during my vampire survivors uh ADHD experiment they're back they're back everybody so bone razor minions was this thing that it was a unique vampire survivors game in that you still add the hordes of enemies and your counts in the shooting them but the way you would deal with them as you would raise minions from the dead and they'd fight for you I do remember this one yeah so you just avoid stuff while your guys fight and you try not to die and it was a really interesting twist and this is one dev who makes
a bunch of really great games like this and he's made a whole handful but his latest is dead zoned and dead zoned if I can find the damn the freaking link to work for me sorry we're betting here it is dead zoned is a very cool one of these um the thing oh this is bone yard minions sorry I gave his the wrong one let's let's click on that guy's name and there it is okay so it's called dead zoned um this is similar artist aesthetic it's kind of that CGI kind of bright color thing that's sort of in right now for these games I don't know what to call this aesthetic but it's it's not you know I'm seeing it all over the place uh it's the same deal one move a space at a time there's this weird card mini game you see him playing here but that's that's almost kind of separate boss fights die your dead go back uh no meta progression really um but you do unlock classes by
getting farther and farther with different characters and so there are a bunch of classes they have different stats you can reset your stats every level so a bunch of things they're doing here that others aren't it's set in a cyberpunk future where you're hacking terminals and some of the Southern shit but at the end of the day it's still very like move shoot kill don't die better use that health oh shit I died all right I guess I'm playing again and then the levels are never the same they're always different um I really like this one so far the reviews on it are real strong so far it's not a ton I think there's under a hundred reviews but um I like what this guy's cooking so dead zoned at number three and then let's get to the final two um someone out there so stoked that I'm doing this because they love these and then everyone else is like why is Scott doing this no I think it's cool because I guarantee you this will be what happens because this is what happens to me with these sorts of lists you all of a sudden will catch an interest at one point and someone who probably in the moment was like I don't care about these games goes oh man what was that episode a
core where Scott talked about which ones are the best because I want to play the best ones of these mm-hmm like I think it's good good we're providing a service yeah you've made me automatically feel better about it so uh shattered pixel dungeon at number two and this was almost number one great streets former uh company well now they had to rename it that after they pulled their funding okay um we should hear any day by the way on what the new thing is I think he's just about ready to announce it anyway uh or where he's working now but uh this is again same kind of deal this just came out and was the first of this batch that I played and this has been out forever but like yeah it's in it's been out in an old school form this is like a redo oh like it's 2022 I thought this is four point oh this is a version four point so I played this over the years I'm very familiar oh so you know this one all right yeah yeah uh it was started out I think is a phone game oh really I didn't know that either yeah it's it's been around for a long time but um that doesn't matter there's still the guy still working on it was literally a new update that's probably
what prompted you to check that's probably what happened I got recommended because of that yeah but it's a really cool one of these and has a lot of it's hard this one's particularly hard I found but it's also more one of the more rewarding ones to clear a level and it's because they should throw some real random bullshit at you and when you overcome some of that it's like really satisfying the all these do a thing and this game definitely does it where they have like mystery potions and it'll say this this potion is blue and milky but you don't know what it is yet until you take it and then you're like oh shit that made me teleport somewhere random or or it poison to me or it healed me or it killed everyone in the room like does that knowledge carry forward it does if you have scrolls of identity so you know how that works in Diablo right because Deckerd canes not around you just pull out a scroll of identity right click the potion and it will it will tell you um this game doesn't carry it from run to run though so if you remember what they
are though like if you're like oh the lumpy blue one was this last time it will be that thing again so in a way your brain is the medic progression on that I think that the thing well the reason why I said no because everything Scott said is correct but the reason why I said like when you talk about this stuff carry over yeah is the other defining feature of a rogue like not a rogue light rogue lights are scoped in there with their game does like hidey's does the things it does very well but it doesn't do variety so that the thing and the thing I'm trying to say is like when there's all these mysteries and things that can happen to you and mutations that you might never see on another run because like the original rogue and there's another game that's like tried assessed from it they put all these like randomized mysteries and like weird shit that can happen that's more dwarf fortress like or room world where it's you're gonna have these procedurally generated like mysteries or events or things that are there that it's not only
just about like die go again and learn to get good at the game but like the game will just like throw random ass bazarness at you it's kind of hard to explain just that a designer's not they're going like okay on their 10th run I want them to encounter this mystery it's all the mysteries and themselves are also procedurally generated in that some very unique things from a role playing standpoint can happen not from a numbers like due damage number go on perspective but just like you said about the potion right that potion might be so random that you'll never see it again in another run in your life that's true I've only had a few of them show up multiple times and I've gotten good at knowing when I get the health one or not which is helpful but the rest of them and they there's varying degrees of this I did play a couple of these games where that knowledge does stay once you've identified it yeah yeah but that just kind of breaks the rule that you're talking about it becomes less of a road well both systems are in there like yes there's healing potions going to use them isn't there but I just not everything is a repeatable carry over
knowledge thing right that is true yeah I don't have enough experience with them to have a first hand but I did you know usually go down a rabbit hole watching someone who's really into playing them they were explaining you know the weird interactions or races like they dialogue like the R.P. systems that can come up that that's why even though the game looks like crap it's why you would want to play a game like this yeah I like the caves of quad is it caves of cudd or quad yeah I've cut I don't know you say this but caves it caves of quad looks like exactly we're talking about the way these people describe it and this thing's really highly regarded it's basically every run is us new story and it gets real crazy and it's all about like you said it's all about the stuff decides the it's unforgiving combat you're still dead you're dead and all that but the way you set things up in the beginning and the way the thing is seated you manned up going down some crazy rabbit holes of stone I will imagine the story of ballers game three was procedurally generated right like so you might get a shitty story you might get an awesome one you
might get a really weird like who know like you don't know I I don't think the people developing it also know how many iterations of what can happen happen you just kind they just kind of like here's a couple of D 1000s we're gonna roll a couple of D 1000s and whatever your story is that's there you go yeah I mean I did that shot and that's just right I mean I became a goat for no reason one time in in cudd and I don't remember how I got out of it now he's now he's a door like it's almost like you're playing a game that bow is making up in a drug-induced state for a dnd campaign it's just it also extends the procedural generation to the story elements of a dnd campaign where usually what video games does really well with dnd is is the numbers right the crunch the the the combat the combat and like basic dialogue trees or like grand narratives but if you actually just you know because rogues rogues likes are just all about making it as replayable as possible mm-hmm it's true they're just they're not stopping at a story like a lot of like Hades is like oh no
we're telling like a story and triggers happen that reveal slowly reveal the thing so what if you like oh that's gross like just put random shit who knows maybe Hades is your dad maybe uh maybe maybe someone else's your dad maybe maybe in this run your dad is not Hades your dad is I'm trying to think of a side here could be Poseidon it's Poseidon this run this is Poseidon and and this and the next run it's a zombie actually we're born of a god just two zombies still had enough hutspying them to make a baby and now you're a zombie baby yeah you know whatever it is yeah they randomized it to the point of like comedy and I think that's where it creates the whole like the same feeling as dnd where it's like no one's gonna ever have these dnd sessions we had they're unique in the universe mm-hmm and so your rogue run also could be like wow I just lived a whole life in another world and and no one else is gonna experience it because it's only on this run that I had it well and you also so you'll notice something about this list caves of quiet or
could probably be number one in this because of those systems but everything I've shown you so far I'm what I'll show you for number one are in the at the very least kind of 16-bit era of graphic fidelity I need at least that it's your list it's your case of quad is ugly as shit and I'm sorry I know people like it and I I don't mind color scheme and all that but I don't like about I don't have I know I'm not saying the right the caves game but I don't like about it is it's so static you just it's like the old ask a games you move a symbol around it's really nothing more than that it's nicely arranged it's super the systems underneath are incredible but I need to look at something a little bit more video game-ish graphically yeah and that's why I like shatter pixel dungeon this game is much more graphical yeah there's there's idle animations you got kind of stands there and breeds and the animals move and it's just got a nice little vibe whereas the caves game just too static I mean I if you like graphics I have one I'm not sure it's on your list I haven't heard
your number one yet I don't want to spoil it for you oh it's not your number one well I'd love to know what it is dungeons of dreadboard oh I have that and I love that that games great I'm playing it a long time is a quick running on what was I playing it's because it's old it's like 2011 or something yeah yeah you nailed it 2011 precisely yeah really good though like I mean it was the I mean I played rogues back like a long time ago but I haven't played them forever and this dungeons was the one that sort of brought me back in because I'm like I don't everything looks nice and then you play and you're like holy shit it's hard yeah it is hard that game is the hard short runs but they got the memo right and they never made anything sense I went looking for more from those people this guy's never made another game which is crazy they basically had an expect called conquest of the wizard lands where you can play as the girl version of the main character yeah which isn't that different no so my number two shatter pixel dungeon excellent game out now cheap these are all cheap that's the other thing none of these are super expensive and my number one currently on sale on only nine bucks nine fifty nine or something
like that is a game called rogue craft DX this just came out on the 10th whoa that's a look yeah and it's a really like the look of this this one's got a very cool salsa you know 16 then anything would look at after some of the games you saw I mean fair point but uh no I like the like wow this we don't get enough games in this in this I don't know if you also call this isometric but this 3d yeah it's isometric I'd say yeah but it's like it's it's it's almost like it's a different angle right it's it's it's more like the apple one kind of three quarter you sort of thing oh man I like the look holy shit yeah a lot more animated a lot of stuff going on at the core it's still one of these though it's identify weird potions and then forgive what they are next time die a lot try again you can unlock another class and stuff if you get further but again the meta progression is not really there it's a hardcore game you die you die um there are three classes to choose from there's a rogue for john a tank for me and bow and a third thing I
haven't unlocked yet I think it's a one third thing for somebody that's not on the exactly really well animated everything's like procedural once again gets harder the deeper you go there are three game modes one of them is something with the chicken I couldn't quite forget that out it's hard to explain see these chickens there's chickens but you get to play as the chicken that badger your friend anyway there's a whole thing going on it's called rogue craft deax and apparently there is a rogue craft already this is a remake of that some old thing but um super into it this one took top spot because it's super fun I like how it looks uh controls are simple they make perfect sense and um it just really grabbed me so rogued eat rogue craft deax not only new brand new but also leader of the pack in my opinion seems like a full role it's out out was it an early access or no just out out yeah they just put it out and it's like oh I should tell you the story it's a
little less than it's not just uh hey guys with swords come fight evil things it's a like love craft deal kind of so you still have your classes like you expect but it's all the chores yeah a lot of tentacle monsters and shit like that it works pretty well I don't think a lot of people are playing it's got low reviews more people need to know about this maybe I mean 39 reviews 92% those who have reviewed it love it it's definitely a niche thing nobody's you know nobody's rushing out to buy the newest old school rogue like but I love it true I love these games I was I was ready man I spent a pretty good amount of time and money on these damn things this week so I did want to give a shout out to one that I want to give kind of a uh honorable mention to it's not even that new came out in 2018 but there's this game called Delver that looks a little bit like it's first person it's like doom meets Minecraft a little bit
oh not really Minecraft nothing's like the characters aren't blocky they're just they're just you know they're pixels they're they're sprites there's a couple games like this like Barony and ancient Dungeons yeah Barony's pretty good although Barony's got a ton of systems in it which is kind of yeah Barony's over crazy it's a little too much maybe I like Barony it's fine it's a good game but this game is really straightforward and it's real time which I think takes it off this list but what puts it on this list and it might take number one if I allowed for this but it's real time instead of you just making moves but the hardcore is still there lose all your shit still there um you can buy shit at camp and use some gold that carries over that may break the rule two but there's you know as far as progression goes it's very much that old school thing and it's very immersive the sound work is incredible in it I really like this game and I'd forgotten I had it I had it forever I've owned it forever and I just have never played it so I played a bunch this week and shout out to Delver because that game's rad and it's another team that doesn't seem
to be doing anything else but they've maintained it nicely and it runs great so check that out I will put this all up on the discord and other maybe the steam and the steam freaking patreon and the yeah I'll put it in all the places so you guys can see it if it's of interest to any of you with some links and brief descriptions as to what I like the most and why and maybe you'll get something out of it I just love the old I love that stuff huge fan first time I ever played one of those I was asking bullshit on a old 386 computer at an old office I was like 19 or something 20 maybe and I went what is this and the levels change every time and I just I was in love and now I'm in love again and I touch myself just getting I made that last part up keep keep keep keep my feelings I'm yeah I'm still I've been waiting because once I'm done playing it it'll be over with but Legend of Grimrock has been has had a space on my hard drive I know it's not a rogue like at all
it's just a traditional dungeon crawler but it's a lot like I love right it's it's in the same vein of like I'm in a dungeon and we're you know progressing and going through you know like it's fun right it's that there's it's almost like space isolation but it's dungeon isolate yeah yeah I love that it's the same sort of vibe where it's like you're surviving you know it's maybe not rogue like but it's it's still that that same vibe so I think I think you just touched on what I love about these it's the isolation yeah I didn't think of that till like a week I was just thinking about it like a week or two ago and I'm like what is it about why am I what am I looking for and I'm like it's like space isolation like good space isolation game but it's just it's in the dungeon that's why I was like I wish they'd make more games where there's a hundred dungeon floors mm-hmm because when you're on floor 46 and there's no way to return home like the yubble one does like have that but it's like you do have the town portal which is fine but like I prefer it with the head of portal right like you're just you're stock like you just gotta keep going and go down there's no go to this town and turn this quest in it's just just go through the dungeon you know
it's just a labyrinth there's exploration there's it's a maze and it's survival mm-hmm anyways that there's a couple of good ones coming up though right that secret a weepstone yeah that was really good I hope that one's good I'm stoked for underkeep as well yeah underkeep looks good I think this is this is why we like Metroid I think this is why we like Diablo 2 in particular for me was a game that I would never play with other people I wouldn't go do the bandlist stuff to me these games where I feel like I am stuck and I have to get out and I only have the tools I have and I can only do so much there's something about that is just scratch scratches about 10 inches that I have all the time kind of how I felt about Diablo 1 it was like you're just going down it's like but it sucks down there so you still gotta just keep going you gotta keep going down yeah yeah and and and this this week was like a an exploration of that and I really do think that that dungeon game got me here dark not darkest dungeon what's it called
a keep forgetting the game and I put hours into that thing now dark is shattered picks are shattered pixel dungeons snow damn it you played last night shadow done shadow dungeon that's it's a dumb name let's be honest yeah but a lot of them have dumb names it's fine shadow dungeon again cheap million nine bucks but this game is this game is a lot like this in that there is meta protect there's there's a meta that you're leveling up and that if you die you're not truly dead like this isn't trying to be one of those games but it has boiled down the Diablo thing to it's raw essence why do I enjoy this at all and I feel the same way about these and this is where this is what started me down this path so if anyone wants to know why I got where I got this is why I got there and it was easy to do with a very busy I had a extremely busy week so I had a lot of like pull up steam deck because I have I have 30 minutes let's play more dead zoned or you know whatever what dead zones one to keep your eyes on that's in early access and that could actually get at
the top if the if that guy just keeps doing cool stuff so anyway that's what I played this week awesome hope you guys enjoyed that it's for here I'll do it again with us here the foray and old school roguelikes I love that you made a graphic for it even though your graphic contains none of the game you know it doesn't there is oh I saw I don't have the name but somebody's working on one where it is asky characters again but it's I don't know how to explain it there it's like a the camera parallaxes like the world's built out of asky characters but it's it's clearly a thing you couldn't do on an old computer I can't explain it I'm very curious about that one too but anyway go find your go find your your fun everybody I think you'll find this some good stuff in that list and I will put them up online like I said before John let's get to work craft three for saking kingdom campaign it's now your favorite game of all time you beat it and now you're back to Blizzard best graces right no oh shit I didn't play a lot of it most of my
game time was in only mooshia but I did play a couple other things this week worth mentioning one is I decided to check out the warcraft three for saking kingdom campaign originally the plan was I'm gonna go and I'm gonna play through warcraft three in general because I was like you know I never really got to play reforged there was a lot of promises made not executed upon and I had been kind of planning on going back and revisiting it at that time and that just never that never happened and then I discovered something and they talked about this at blizzcon I missed it in our opening ceremony coverage but I went to go play it and I was like what are we doing here like what's going on and I looked it up so one of the big things about this forsaken kingdom thing is that it is using a new art style which they call the definitive graphic setting which is so you have the original warcraft three models then you have what they did for reforged which a lot of people felt miss the
mark in a lot of ways maybe like that maybe you didn't but now they have a thing called definitive which is sort of the idea of like with the final fantasy pixel remasters higher resolution but it's meant to look like what warcraft three looked like you're supposed to look at it and go oh they didn't change anything yeah but then you look at the original model and you go oh they did it's updated I think that's why it's such a hard time selling it on stage during the panel I don't if you saw that do you guys see that panel but the the guy the I didn't see the actual panel now okay I only watched the opening ceremony okay so I watched that panel later and it was kind of hard to get through I just think he was his vibe was just not matching with what I was hoping it would be but find whatever everyone's different his presentation was just different but as he was going along oh bow check the score real quick but as he was going along oh that's weird oh it quit plan um he goes uh sorry now here it is with the old graphics he was doing it like an eye doctor
he goes he goes original reforged he goes one and now two and it would be the new one and it the audience didn't know what to do because from a distance it really doesn't look like they did anything yeah it just felt like he was and so he seemed a little awkward about now maybe you didn't catch it let's try that again and he would show him again like kind of expecting people to go oh but no one did because it didn't really look that different no because it's true because like honestly it is three very very different art styles in a lot of ways you have the original which looks a little old a little dated but you know kind of timeless in its own charming sort of way but then you have the reforged art style which looks good in the in the sense of like oh these are clearly more modern character models but you feel like a lot of artistry has been lost in it like in in terms of just like oh it's a better model now in general and then you have the new one which in some ways feels like a step backwards from reforged because it's a step back to what they had
but it's higher quality uh better shading you know overall a better model yeah well my goal was like okay well I want to play through the game on that that definitive art style is not in the game yet for the regular Warcraft III campaign oh yeah I had the same issue there is two art styles but not the definitive edition yeah the definitive is not in yet so that's what I had to look up it's coming they said it should be oh sooner than later it will be coming out they're gonna do it but they I guess they just wanted it out for Blizzcon so they were like oh it's in the new campaign so here you go and you know it's out now but apparently that's gonna be patched in but I went oh okay well at least they're gonna pat I'm gonna wait then I guess yeah that made me worry that they weren't gonna patch it in it or that the first game wouldn't get it but that's good to hear no it is coming it's just not there yet but it did kind of make me go oh well I don't want to play I'll just play the new stuff then so that's what I did and it's really cool uh for Satan kingdom is really cool
although I'm gonna just say if you're like me and you haven't played Warcraft III and say since you were an adult and it's been a really really long time maybe play on story mode this is a campaign that definitely assumes that you've been playing Warcraft III like in fact it probably assumes that you're at least this point in the story uh because I went in and was like I don't know and they're like do this do this do this I was like I don't even remember the keys for this what are we doing you know like I don't remember what buttons this is it is a more hero focused endeavor you're not really doing a lot of the at least so far from what I've played what I've heard you're not really building up you know resources and you're not playing traditional Warcraft III you're mostly managing small army mostly hero units and it's like that part I'm vaguely familiar with heroes of the storm stuff and and whatnot but like they throw you into the deep
in like you can you can lose fights very quickly and if either of your two main dudes die start over and like start all the way over there is there no safe system there's there might have been a save but also modern brain john was like surely they're not going to make me start at the very beginning of the campaign and then I'd done then one of the guys died in this opening cinematic play to get and I went oh no I've made a terrible mistake yeah shit so uh you know school of hard knocks going back to a 20 year old video game but uh so there's no base building though like you know go get all the oil and gold we can get just get out there I have heard that it there is like maybe a stage in the campaign that's like that but it's not very often okay that mostly it's hero management that that's what they focused on for this story now that said this is awesome because for me like this is the shit I cared about Warcraft 3 and thus in world of Warcraft like
part of the reason I ended up playing an undead and that was where my initial journey in two azureth for wow was is because the fall of lord aron the rise of arthus hymn departing Sylvanas taking over the forsaken like that stuff was the story stuff that I was the most interested in that's the stuff I really cared about like that whole human campaign and undead campaign and all of that some of my favorite stuff and when I got into wow I couldn't wait to go to those places it was like I want to see lord aron I want to see you know I want to see where it all went down I want to see the towns that arthus went through and you know I go to Strathome had to run Strathome as a dungeon because it was like this is where the big stuff happened this is where the story was sure they're sure there were other stories but this is where the story I cared about was
so going in on this it's like somebody it's like somebody wrote a sequel to your favorite book like way way way later you're just like oh my gosh thank goodness I can't wait to get in because it does cover a lot of stuff that you might have been wondering about we've all seen the cinematic where arthus comes back and kills is dead but like what was going on in the town like that what were they talking about what was the thoughts of arthus coming back and so you kind of play as these two guardsmen an old veteran and a younger one who are preparing for the princess return and they have very different feelings about that you know ones like hey we need to enjoy this time of peace you know that there's rumors of a plague going on we got to be ever vigilant but we got to enjoy what we have and you got another one that's like I want to see battle I want to why do we care about a stupid prince anyway you know kind of mentality right and then it goes into the immediately you know into the fallout of arthus killing is dead and like now evil is literally attacking the
city and you got to go to its defense and what does that look like all that stuff super fascinating to me I wish I could tell you more about it but I had one of the characters died by accident and had to start all the way at the beginning so you know be careful be careful out there it's a dangerous world but I'm I'm really really excited for it I think it's super cool I love the way it looks it definitely has sold me that when they add the definitive art style to the game I'll probably go through and play Warcraft 3 again this even the faces and just the more stylistic look everything and when they're close up to characters while they're talking or whatever doing little you know in game cutscenes I really like the like if this had been reforged to start with man that would have been on a better foot because it's that weird manic and he looking shit they did I really didn't like I mean also if they had followed through on well yeah that's the other thing as they were going to do
but they really hand-waved that away this con but yeah I feel like they still owe everybody a little bit like this expansion there is a part of me that's like yeah you said you you guys said we were getting now we are getting some of that in this like they are doing full cinematics with this stuff and like we're seeing elements of what they said was going to be in reforged but it was promised for the full product not for future expansions that you would buy into yeah yeah um you know it it comes at a really like good time obviously we're gonna be talking about Blizzcon in the news section but like this playing this reminded me why I played wow which puts you in a real good mindset if you're eyeballing wow going maybe I should go back but I I don't want to go back to some space bullshit I would like to go back to like there's a plague and people are kind of being dicks to each other and what's going on over on this side of the fence like simpler times and
that's what this feels like and really made me kind of rediscover that nostalgia I had for this particular chapter and Warcraft I don't know if they meant to do this from a strategic standpoint but in light of what forever is this feels like the right thing to have out and available for the for the people like you who want to go back to that because that's really what that games on also let you do so this is a it's almost like repeat of 2003 and then 3000 2004 where you went well you're all we were all playing frozen thrown or whatever the expansion what yeah frozen thrown and then that roll right into this MMO I don't know it's kind of interesting that that's exactly kind of what we're doing again didn't we're by yeah yeah I was like oh forever's launching November and I've time to play Warcraft 3 and then lead up to World of Warcraft yeah remember all those reasons that I wanted to get into the game I mean there are two reasons why it was to see stuff I saw on Warcraft 3 because I loved Warcraft 3 and it was because people were like
it's kind of like Diablo I was like I love Diablo I want to get in and try this yeah so it's pretty neat and I you know if it's convenient if it works out because it's convenient wasn't planned like it's a hell of a convenience because this is fantastic cross promotion to get people excited about this era of wow and then being like hey like this this era of wow you go out and do it well good look on your fresh start after you guy you got a guy killed I hope you enjoy that yeah I know I got to figure out I think I'm gonna just bump it down to easy I'm a lot older now older and slower just take it easy on me I just want to see what's going on yeah maybe I need to look up the key bind for quick save or whatever well forgot this is before games saved for you it's also since the game is essentially like the Rex R DLC or the I don't know like I'm trying to think about other stuff did this and well I guess Starcraft 2 had a bunch of missions like this but since it's
mostly like take the hero and a and a bunch of other dudes through a labyrinth of whatever and you don't need to worry about your resource management or whatever like why put it on hard just you know get you there for the story not there to brag no I mean you would but nobody's gonna be like oh John you beat the Warcraft 3 DLC on its medium settings whoa gamer god some he did and some he did in the chat made a good point too and I almost we haven't mentioned this they talked about it that on those panels and stuff but this is filling that four year time gap between War 3 and World of Warcraft which up till now we don't we've never had that story yeah that's great I'm into it I don't know how much of this you know the old hats had to do with this I don't know how much of this medicine's been involved with or any of the people from that era but I'd be curious like probably as they're blessing either way I would hope they mentioned
medicine being involved the skyborne for well forever so oh that's cool so I'm guessing he was consulted for War 3 too I'm pretty yeah I mean he was so his hands were all the way up to the elbows in that game at the time so I have to think he's got he has something to say about it you know yeah anyway well that's fantastic John you also had some time with your favorite Mega Man had that go for you yeah let me tell you guys about a thing called Mega Man X Regenesis this is a fan game which is a popular thing and the Mega Man X community because Capcom doesn't make those games anymore so everybody just kind of makes their own and so this is a free game you can go download it look up Mega Man X Regenesis you can find it on itch and this is super cool it has the art style and aesthetic of the SNES era Mega Man X series but it's got a lot of new new little touches
so like there's a lot of dynamic lighting and stuff when you shoot your xbuster it actually lights up the background as it goes by and stuff like that you can turn that stuff off too if you're like but I hate it but I thought it was kind of neat and it's more Mega Man X takes place in so it's that the idea is it's kind of like a alternate reality story the idea being that in the original game x failed to defeat sigma sigma defeated him but a kind of backup automation began to revive him so it's a years in the future where sigma has all but wiped out the human race and x comes back to and is like oh I should go stop this dude that I failed to stop before and it's all new bosses all new music all new levels all new power ups it basically a brand new Mega Man X game so I let's capcom stance on this sort of thing do you know if they're not they're not making any money
so they're not show they're not shutting it down this is just free let's just get it it feels like if this is an Nintendo property Nintendo regardless of the cost would shut it down yeah they did there was a Metroid someone did a Metroid I think AM2R was the name of the other something I had to give that one was the case where they hired those people oh they hire Nintendo hired them yeah that was one of the rare cases where the people who worked on the game if I remember correctly I think it is I don't remember that people who are working on the project actually got to make the game well that's at least a good outcome but they did release a completely free version it was basically a remake of the Game Boy version in full color you know for free and I know I remember it was following the progress then it's like sorry we got you know take down oh we're stopping maybe it's a different project I know they do this as Sonic a lot you see a lot of Sonic fan it's called the reasons called AM2R is another Metroid 2 remake oh oh you know what it is maybe that's the one that got hired because didn't that happen with the sonic people made sonic colors or whatever and then I didn't know
it happened with Sonic as well yeah yeah maybe it's separate or maybe the same kind of deal the Mega Man X community has a lot of these usually they're in the form of modifications or updates to existing games so like there's the zero project which has been making zero a playable character and all the old X games there's also one that de-made Mega Man X eight which was a 3D kind of garbage game yes one game right yeah I think it was PS2 actually for it it was like a 3D Mega Man X wasn't well received and they de-made it into a sprite based side scroller one and people were like this is excellent turns out that was a fantastic Mega Man X game it just needed to not be in 3D and garbage so a lot of these things have already existed but this is kind of unique in that it is a completely holy original it's not pulling off of anything that was done before you know sort of like sprite work and stuff like that but even that I think there've been some updates to it
do you know if it's a is it a workable ROM version of this or can you just run it's just for a PC is that it's just it's just an EXE file okay so you just download it run it oh man I would love to I don't know why I want to do this but I kind of want to put it on my like GBA devices and play it like that you should try it see if it's cool maybe I can do it if I look into it I mean this is a weird way to make a Mega Man X fans so so this is a free I can just go get this yeah check that out I like the X series I didn't like the original because they're they're all hard but the original is just about put me into a home the one thing I the one thing I noticed I'm more of a Ness fan but it's okay they're both awesome but I noticed one of the bosses called bag snapper which made me laugh do not stand over bag snapper in the shower get you every time get you right in the back all right well cool so regenesis is what you're looking for everybody available on the internet it's IO you said or it's time yeah let's write down loaded it from so but you can just google it
it's cool I want to I want to keep checking it out and it's fun to see the creative ways fans have taken that series so so what we're going to talk about next is I'm going to give you this intro how does one keep the world's greatest astrobot fan happy and satisfied it turns out John may have an answer John tell us about your time in final fantasy remake integrate yeah so it's not my time it's my son's time yeah my so astrobot has been played a lot there was one point where we we took a look at our three save files that you can have for astrobot and we had the gold crown of 100%ing all three saves we'd done it all three times and if I reset it which I frequently do he'll have you know 200 some bots in an hour like he just he just goes through it like crazy and so
I think he was starting to get to where it was like okay I want to try something different and I don't remember how he discovered this but he found out that final fantasy seven was on the play station he might have just seen it on my computer and said is that on the play station I said yeah and so he was like can I play it and I was like well buddy there's a lot of reading in it you don't know how to I thought oh this is a good teachable moment I can encourage reading and learning to read and I was like you don't know how to read yet so you got up we got to practice learning to read and he goes you can read for me and I was like well buddy I don't know if dad wants to sit down and just do all the reading for you for final fantasy but he he was like plays and I was like we got to go do homework he's like I'll do all the homework oh wow and sure enough we went and sat down with a with a packet that was like a work on your own time and the dude while while final fantasy seven downloaded on the play station did the entire homework packet because he was just like I'm so
excited about playing final fantasy seven I was like okay he's really into this really is your kid man so we sat down and we started playing it and he just got so into it he just really likes it and immediately we started playing and he goes when do I play as Barrett and I was like you start his cloud he's like oh man it's like Barrett will show up soon enough don't worry you'll get him soon but you got you start with cloud so he's watching all the opening stuff he goes damn why is cloud so mean she's mean to everybody I was like well that's part of the story he's got to come out of his shell and all that and then he got really happy because he got to play his Barrett but kid was down on cloud he when he did not like me he's like he's so mean he's just mean and rude to everybody so rude and so then it gets to the point where the reactors blowing you got to get out of the reactor I said everything to easy by the way which was great because turns out if
you set this game to as easy as possible it's great for a five year old he just mashes the little button and kills everything and it's like all right great you know he doesn't need to figure out we don't need to have a sit down talk about menus and spell systems just yet he just hits everything or shoots everything once Barrett's on the play like that do you even have to think about materia at that point or you just no no we don't have to think about materia at all yet so but then we get to everybody's trying to get out the reactors gonna explode and it gets to the part where the platform clouds on starts to collapse and cloud starts running up it while it's falling and then he jumps off and then there's another piece in the air and he lands on that and then he does a forward flip and kind of does the iron man landing up on the ledge and my son goes oh so cool yeah and all of a sudden now he thinks cloud is awesome yeah cloud and it's great one cool flip and he's like oh so cool yeah and uh he's really excited he really really likes it
I he knows more about it than I thought he did because everything goes fiery and siferaht shows up and he goes and I said do you know who that is and he's like that's sifera yeah I was like oh I didn't know you knew who that was but he doesn't he does he must have seen your magic cards right yeah I don't know he's he did watch me play final fantasy a lot too so it's not his first time there's a reason he knew he liked Barrett for sure sure but it's just how much did he retain turns out a lot you think you think one day Alexander's gonna organize you know uh stuff for like we need to save the planet freaking stuff he might he is very focused on Mako energy and what it's doing to the planet and it was maybe my favorite thing is the next morning so he's like damn what is that green stuff I went that's the Mako energy and he's what's Mako I was like well that's like the lifeblood of the fam of the planet they turn it into energy it's what's hurting the planet
he's like hmm he's like why are they hurting the planet is like well they're using it for power yeah is that real and I said no Mako energy is not real but there is a similar thing in the real world there there are things we can equate it to but Mako energy is pretend well the next day he's in the he's in the room playing he's playing Astro about again but all of a sudden he goes dad what's that energy the green stuff what's it called and I said fail energy oh no nothing I said it's Mako energy and he goes oh I thought it was taco energy and I just I thought that's amazing it should have been it should have been taco energy so bad he just fully believed the planet is made up of taco energy I love it so it's been really fun to watch him play through it we just got to the first section where it opens up and it's like go do a bunch of side quests
and he's like what do I do and I was like you gotta go talk to people and so I kind of helped him go find the first person it was a little girl looking for cats and I was like buddy I gotta go you know get everything ready for bed I can't be here to read with you why don't we switch to Astro I said no I want to play final fantasy I was like all right well go look for the cats then I can't I can't help you I gotta go get things ready for bed and as I'm getting things all prepared and getting everything shut down and ready for bedtime I just keep hearing I found a cat sure enough he found all of the little girls cats and he just was thrilled that he saved save the day so we're learning about side quests and jobs and it was just 2025 where you sent video or pictures of him running around the house with like parrot arm yep he did it in a spectacular dude just running around like he's got like suck on this now he's now he's in the he's in the thick of it man
man that's great love it I like I love these stories you gotta keep telling us when you guys are playing stuff together it's great yeah I don't know how far this is gonna go on the easy settings like he's clearing stuff fast and getting through it and so I think the biggest hurdle is he just he has a lot of questions and so I have to be present for a lot of it and especially when it's just me in the house I'm like buddy I can't help you with this as much as you need at the moment so there you go he's doing good and then last thing I want to say is just a couple quick thank you's all the poppin fresh who went on a real uh spree so just a shout out to poppin fresh for gift and silent hill townfall final fantasy seven or revelation oh and uh gears of war e-day oh nice uh so big thank you to poppin fresh and also I don't know if I said it or not but a thank you to dr. tobert for castlevania bell months curse oh very nice I got a bell months curse gift from poppin fresh as well uh different person obviously but yeah can't wait for
that it's weird it's not really consistent not that I'm complaining or providing notes but I got castes we need from dr. tobert as well oh thank you for that yeah not poppin fresh though so hey guess what I did I gifted a game to shatter proof oh look at that that's cool he had never played a tower or a titan fall two my still my favorite first person shooter campaign of all time it's a very good one I love it so much it made me almost want to replay it again but it went on sale and I went yapping about it in the discord and he went oh I always meant to play that when I'm like I'm turn the table shatter proof get ready open your email so I gave him a game it's the least I could do and notice I waited till it was a game that's like 90 percent percent off that's not I promise it wasn't because of the price shatter proof it's the thought that counts it was the thought I would happily give that to him full price if I knew it totally don't rank users that gift by the dollar amount they provide no you shouldn't you're right to not do that totally don't tower fall two though
past sorry tower fall titan fall two titan fall two is the only first person shooter campaign outside of maybe doom if you count it the original doom that I beat two times I could probably do it a third it's so good oh my gosh it's a shame that they canceled a third one look apex legends you're great I'm glad you exist you shouldn't have been the priority I know how many works in these big companies who knows what the Saudi zoning them now I don't think we ever get titan fall again and it will be a crying shame if we don't there and probably not that's why you never know they might bring the band back together at some point for the third and final outing never know multiplayer is really good in that game too all right uh bow it's your turn and I'm very excited to hear about this topic I'm I'm gonna jumble things around just because we're on the subject to give smiles won't get them out of the way now um so thank you to dr. Tolbert for Castlevania thank you to pop and fresh for star wars galactic racer oh yeah I'm ready for galactic racing now
and um thank you to maybe thank you to pixel in j-pixine ninja who gifted me ball scratch simulator um and for those wondering this is a VR game where you need to scratch your balls but there's women's around apparently and you've got to stealthily scratch your balls and not cut stealth game it's a stealth game it is a stealth game I did not play it because you know why would I thank you for the gift but so from what I mean I might try at some point but I mean I was just you know you know it's so many to understand what's happening here he's I got video up you guys see this yeah he's why is he at a press conference in the in the white house all right anyway you're uh well they you're what you're showing is not animating anymore oh it's not it freeze again it froze again for the for the love of Pete hold on I'll fix it for the love of but I think the idea is like
these are all places you wouldn't want to get caught scratch in your balls yeah and look I'll see the guy you can in multiplayer you can scratch the other guys balls because that's oh my gosh really so look at him no wonder I know why they have to do be stealthy about it because man that is the most vigorous like scratching I've ever seen a bunch of women are exercising and you're just sitting there watching them like a purve like it's not even a real situation you know what I mean it's not the immersion level is pretty low the the the tags are amazing though it's comedy stealth score attack first person and funny the multiplayer is kind of fun look at those guys that's for players scratching their balls all right and a little anime girl comes out and thanks you for getting it oh shit oh my god I hated everything about her last arm that was awful and you guys are frozen audio listeners it's not that you could sit and reach over to scratch someone else's balls
but his arm was like mr. fantastic extending like anyways thanks for that game bud um appreciate you yeah um all right and that's so that's it with the thank yous what did I get up to this week well I wanted to play a bit of vr because there's a whole lack of vr mods that are showing a lot of promise they're getting really good um there's still not a hundred percent there yet and some of them like there's a really good cyberpunk for your mods it's new that isn't from lucros that is reviewing really well but it required me to install 10 different dependencies as like oh this is a project so I didn't do it thankfully there is one that is a single not even an install all you do is just download from github like the software press run and it just works it's so easy to set up it's amazing and that's doom 2016 vr mod and you might be saying doesn't isn't there an official doom vr game yep and it's trash I've tried it it has locked things and none of these companies bother updating it don't don't bother buying it this is full half life Alex six degrees of freedom
move both hands anywhere use the doom guns also do melee attacks like you just you punch and then it'll do the punch like to kill the guy you can have it so the camera locks or the camera doesn't lock when you do it depending on your comfort preferences very robust very easy to get running and it's doom baby it's awesome so yeah and then you can you know use your hands to change the the enemies I was just shocked to hear this is as simple as just download it and yeah yeah there's absolutely zero modding to do you just you don't even I just have a folder on my desktop or the one I downloaded I click run it's got a settings window you set the you know you check the things you want just press launch game and just launch it from the app and it just works right out of the box like yes I didn't know that was even a thing I thought they all had to have something pretty new but there's a whole rash there's one for Elden Ring it still needs work one for cyberpunk there's one for bio shock there's one for there's a whole rash of them coming out and I think the thing
is a lot of it's like you know these are AI assisted developments that have sped up people's ability to like actually make these things that's that sounds just rumor and conjecture but like I can kind of understand why that's there's still not perfect they're still working on it but it's just really great that we have community support for great VR shit so and the fidelity on Undoom is obviously better than something that's made first party because they got them you know they just don't have the same quality the frame got a price announcement what are your thoughts what did you think about that yeah I've got so many other things to purchase before I buy a frame so no thanks we're in an interview where they set the due to valve who's kind of in charge of all this their original price aim was 750 that would have been palatable probably the problem is no launch title like no what's why do I want this and from the from what I've heard about
the steam frame is that while it's technically better in a few ways than the quest it's very marginal so sometimes you're going to pay Canadian for the low end it's $1,500 and that's before tax $1,800 so I'm looking at like almost $2,000 to buy the thing yeah I was like well how much are you getting is it like you know and it's like it's an incremental you know upgrade on the quest like if you have a quest three you like why would you you know there are good reasons maybe you don't want your data stolen that's one but I mean values you data too so I don't know what data is okay I'm playing Doom thank here he goes Zuckerberg amazing I've closed my Facebook accounts so I don't have any social media with them anymore so it's like literally all they're learning from me is how I kill demons and I'm like whatever take it if you want it really sure use my demon yeah so you know why would I buy a frame you know like obviously there's some cool shit with the frame
like it I would say it's probably a superior product do I want one yes do I want one for $2,000 I think I'd rather buy a 5080 like I could easily take 2k and just slap it on a graphics card so I can play my games on my quest even better I think it would be the appropriate upgrade to do not get a new headset you know what I mean yeah yeah and battery life's an issue apparently on the frame more so than oh I didn't know that yeah and I've got quality of life I mean we've got a great strap I've invested a lot in my quest I've got prescription lenses on my quest the stuff like that I just don't see why I just can't afford it I can't justify it yeah it makes sense so so it won't be buying one but anyways Doom is awesome and there's lots of great mods that are getting worked on and like look if tomorrow they're like we're making half life Alex too it's the greatest thing ever and you can only play it on a frame I might revisit it okay maybe like well guys were we're doing oceans 11 well that kind of that kind of is as interesting for you to say that because it kind of proves at the point of if if VR is to thrive it needs killer titles right it needs a reason besides
the neat new hardware and if they don't have a game to go with it that really drives it then how they're gonna sell these so yeah I'm kind of with you like if half like yeah half high Alex too was part of this launch it might be an old brainer for a lot of people but I don't I think they're going to be like you and kind of sit and wait to what happens yeah I just it's just not enough of a jump until I learn something that's like you know oh please like this is gonna be so huge to have this I can wait you know I'm assuming they're not gonna sell that it's like I was buy it five years from true true that they're probably not it right now I'm I just I could be wrong about this but because of all these price hikes out of their own control this a lot of the steam machine and these and everything that's been coming out with the exception maybe the controller it feels like they're just in obligation mode right now like they were very excited about this and they wanted to undercut other players in the market and be a cheaper alternative to a console and all these sorts of things
and because they can't it feels like they're just sort of like well we may as well just put it out and be done like I don't know I'm getting that vibe I could be wrong that that's the vibe at Valve but no I think there's an enthusiast there's an enthusiast core to to VR where it's like you're never gonna see it be mainstream and you see a lot of people still continue to shit on it but like people are into VR or into VR and it's gonna remain a thing like there's currently right now in game 40,000 people playing VRChat it's a lot VRChat is you know you're not like okay it's not a force like we're on the warcraft but that's 40,000 potential customers logged in currently I don't know what the over time you know obviously it's gone down over time but like there's still a community of people that might be into socializing online even in January they had peak concurrency of 80,000 you know there are there are use cases or VR enthusiasts enough that including at
these companies that it might be if they can just at least make a bit of money off of it you know still see VR headsets go out you know so yeah and we're just waiting for the day where maybe the technology is not mature enough for it to be mainstream and popular but you know maybe we're 10 years away from having really light almost glasses like VR experiences that are as easy as the cell phone you know when cell phones were bricks everyone's like why don't I keep it brick around all day and that cell phones are like really light and easy to transport yeah do a lot of other things to make you like okay it's worth carrying this thing around because I can listen to stuff and get my message you know et cetera et cetera so you know maybe we're just 10 years away from a good implementation that means the whole world over is going to be using you know they keep trying to make like the other story is like the metaglasses I know people hate them for privacy reasons but they still keep trying to make them somebody still keeps trying to make them at some point it may just catch fire and be normalized I don't know yeah so there was a point there was a point
time where camera phones not in the iPhone era but like before that phones with cameras super stigmatized for a hot minute because they could film people out their knowledge and how do I know that guy and the bus is actually looking at his phone and not shooting video of me and we kind of got over that I mean you get used to things that they do have like pencil cameras are still a thing like you can still get cameras someone wants really wants to film things and not have you know yeah it can be done like it's not just the phones it's like that's we're just living in that world so I don't know I mean John's got his whole side up skirt business he does at the mall so if he can do it we can do it right right I think that that is a gross falsity I would never go out of my house like I was gonna say you'd have to go to the mall that I would I would never go to the mall for for any reason damn it I didn't think this through how do I thought it through I would have
had a better acquisition yeah that's pretty bad I can't do it from the comfort of my own home then I definitely didn't yeah real long wire I guess that's right yeah I'm anyway we're derailed a little bit sorry I just yes frame looks cool but I don't I don't think I'll be getting one so sorry fair point all good yeah okay I played some other games this week so John's gonna have a I already know I'm pretty I'm a little pretty I saw this and I was like what happened yeah what happened what's gonna happen and my my neck pain happened so I'm sitting on my desk right now but like I know I'm gonna be a little sore after this like it's really my neck issues are really causing me a problem with my normal routines so I've got to like change things up I feel like I have to buy a new mattress and get a new chair and I don't know just a lot of stuff getting in there so gaming like I was gaming on Tuesday for an hour or I tried some PC stuff and my jaw was sore as well as my neck and I'm like I guess I just can't sit here you know
I've got changed position so I don't know what that means long term but you know I can sit on my sofa and plug in a controller and it was Blizzcon this weekend and I the panel like Blizzcon was pretty good the panels were pretty interesting I often when I second-screen I lose focus on what's going on the second screen with the game I'm playing and I didn't want to do that and I was just like looking for something progression based and I was like what about vampire survivors so I just started playing it and I was like I don't know at first I was I was getting a little like okay these games are kind of long it's a little bit boring you know but then I discovered there was a hyper mode that turns the matches into 15 minutes versus 30 minutes and that's super great yeah I like if it was still if it was still 30 minutes a match I'd be out because I'm just like this takes away too long but a 15 minute match it was better so I just like oh you know you get on the treadmill I'm like how do I unlock this how do I unlock this how do I unlock this how do I unlock this and I've done most of all the achievements I think in the base game I think I just have two left maybe unless
there's any hidden or something like that we've gotten the fireworks and I've gotten all the main characters and of course I bought all the DLCs it was like nothing it was on sale it was cost me like a couple dollars yeah so I'm like I'm just playing that by survivors but for a game made it a weekend I played most of it in a weekend yeah like I still have lots to get through but like it was a pretty solid I would say I've been playing over the week because now this far and this close to finishing I'm having a good time with it it's fun I think that's great like this is I'm gonna be a day where you're suddenly playing like what's something you've always been like no megabon no he did play wait no he never did it's me and you play a megabon I didn't make a book no I didn't get into megabon kit I haven't played it I mean six bucks right now you should get megabon I'm not trying to play every survivors like we move the goalpost both finally plays me and I was like let me tell you about megabon yeah I've been in between games
quite a bit since TCG card similar I've been doing games I've gained something I can't do too at my neck I'm just like oh I have to sit and work on my excel spreadsheet it's so annoying honestly my life has really been turned upside down from a gamer computer user right now and I have you kind of hope it would be done in a week but it's turned into three weeks and it's still like way physiotherapist today is like you you're still like healing the injury you have like you need to like not be doing things that aggravate it like sit where I'm sitting I'm gonna do it for the show but when I'm done I'm I'm moving away from this area sure so yeah anyways so survivors is pretty it's pretty I have a use case now for it is pretty easy even part of my injury is I people have watched me stream but I do things with my mouth that I think injured my jaw where I go hmm I do that I think that's part of it and so like if I play something high concentration I've been doing that I'm trying not to move my jaw like that yeah so so it isn't even just like
it part of its posture I know if I get a lot of advice about posture but it's also just the unconscious movements I make with my jaw when I'm in high intensity gaming so I don't know yeah now I'm glad you're taking care of it though dude that's good yeah I mean I've been quasi depressed so I'm like can I even game anymore like because you know these things don't get better as older if I have like a messed up jaw and I don't want to aggravate it I'm like well I can't play games yeah no it's like it's it can change how you do a lot of things but yeah I also think so I used to have really bad problems with everything you've described the back the shoulder the jaw all of it it's very familiar to me um about 10 years ago and it was about then that I started using controller way more and it's made a gigantic difference like I don't want to just say uh controllers are the way to go old guys like me but honestly I can get I have I have I
gained more and I'm less in pain and also the industry has embraced it more that's the other nice thing is like 10 years ago there were less games that were controller compatible on PC or that it you know a controller would do well with people have figured that's that stuff out even card baddlers like um slay the Spyro 1 and 2 have amazing controller support it's really into live in monday and those games aren't as high intensity as like you know here's the storm like games I'm used to playing right yeah sports games like those those are the games were the blood pressure or blood pressure and heart rate go up and you do weird things with your hunching mm-hmm and with your mouth or with whatever it is a conscious habits you have so yeah I don't know but it's definitely like as we gonna be 50 this Blizzcon reminded me it's coming you know like things don't work the same and you have to adapt and like unfortunately I've always been someone that's been like like gaming very intensely and it's just like well you know you've time to pay the piper maybe some of that stuff or it's like oh shit um so I don't know but um survivors
really easy to play any real casual it's I mean that is what I use it for like I mean that's what I like it when I'm watching other things engaging in other things or if I just come out of something that is extremely intensive either from immersion or story or whatever I just need a unwind game something easy to launch that isn't like oh I'm building a big investment here like something that's just low stakes get in play for a little bit and feel like oh I did something and that is exactly where vampire survivors falls for me and it's just like they did get that loop down perfect of just like I want to unlock this all right how do I unlock this how do I upgrade this weapon how do I make this into something fancy and they they just figured something out yeah yeah I'm getting a lot of advice so I'm just trying to head off some of it now I don't actually clinch or do grinding it's more than I just move my jaw yeah like it's hard to explain I'm just
moving it like a way yeah the joint you're moving the joint you'll have seen like I've definitely used 10 years ago when I started streaming I was very self-conscious because like I look crazy like when I'm concentrating my mouth like yeah yeah you know and I'm now I'm just used to it like I'm not embarrassed by it there's all kinds of weirdos on the internet why would I feel anything than them but it is a weird thing that I'm realizing might be just it's just a repetitive motion injury in the jaw yeah not so much clenching but the one thing the dentist found I don't know if I talked about it I came back but they looked at my x-ray since six months ago I have a white patch on my bone here like not it's not a white patch it's denser bones so the x-ray had a harder time going through it because it's denser and that's usually from pressure oh where the boundary generates thicker because of pressure it's like I got this patch here so I'm waiting to hear from an oral surgeon because like I definitely have like tightness here like it's a whole thing and it's just weird to be like I got a I got a patch of dense bone on my jaw yeah good like
splines a lot though and it happens I'm happened like but sorn is there now it happens when I'm gaming so anyways survivors is easy to play I think I don't think I did too much injury playing like it's a great yeah yeah numbers go up fireworks happen it feels good you still get your you get your things I mean I feel like I have one hand not doing it enough still but that's fine um that's when you give yourself a happy vampire survivor's ending well Arthur likes and I give him a little pet at least he'll sit next to me in that way you can play and pet who says okay who says need a stabilizing mouthguard for this pro gamer maybe that a thing a stabilizing mouthguard you use a while yeah well the physiotherapist that she's known people who've had they don't it's not just a night guard like a mouthguard for a night but you can have it like sports athletes might have them oh really to set their jaw in place yeah if it's while you're just in general like you're at I think while I'm doing any high intensity stuff that would cause the repetitive motion I
guess yeah I don't know I'm still early like trying to figure out what's going on and the physiotherapist is really just focusing on my neck which I also have neck tension but it's up to the oral surgeon to tell me about my TNJ like what's going like I don't really know what's going on except I have evidence of pressure on my bone so man it could just be also not related at all and you know you grow and you get weird and maybe just you know you know people like get hunchbacks or their next duck or whatever yeah sometimes you just grow and like all of a sudden your body breaks yeah I don't know I'm part of getting older I guess I don't know so we're still figuring that part anyways let's do some looks maxing on our on our posture oh god that's maybe that's what I need to do is take a hammer and smash my jaw until it feels there you go yeah that's great that's what that clavicleer or whatever's name is to you I saw a video compilation please don't do anything that man tells you to do oh my god I saw video of him it was a compilation video every time he tries to
get some girl to grab his junk and he does it all the time it's constantly taking their hand because he's got a lot of fan girls who like to completely lure whatever's name is and he just keeps reaching over and grabbing their hand and putting it on his ween what the hell's out about man on camera you weirdo anyway what I know I know someone else you played bow yeah I was good call that's transition of all time that was great I have a lot to say on the subject of clavicleer but I'm not going to all right yeah let's get it's he's an idiot all right all right so I'll sum it up by saying like if that guy all right yeah all right zalata I play zalata on ptr oh the video game known as zalata yeah I think we're gonna cover this I think we're gonna have a big discussion not come yeah yeah I think we're gonna have a big discussion when we get to the news because usually the stuff at the top of miss calm was pretty bit massive and I
know because we always have reaction coaches every time we do a lot and they were they were coaching me on how I sounded really grumpy and disappointed about the heroes announcement which it's a reaction I did the whole point of reaction is I it's this is what it is like yeah so you know I'm actually kind of stoked that there's new heroes contents you know I just took me a while to warm up to the idea because they haven't talked about it for six years and didn't even not only even they talked about they didn't put it on their posters didn't do anything so I had no reason to expect that they do something and I found it suspicious at first but now I've had time to process it and it seems cool plus we got a panel where we got to meet the janitor who takes care of it all right yeah yeah dressed as a janitor yeah yeah yeah just dressed in a collect so they're like the huge wink wink knock nod we hear you gamers has occurred yeah you know in blizzard but in blizzard fashion so it's done really well yeah anyways I played Zelda the bit it's cool new hero looks she's got unique
abilities as a maid she floats around she's balls does balls things what would you what would you say the difficulty wise where would you put her I definitely put her as an advanced knowledge hero like it's not she's not she's not too butantary right click reiner she is she is not um but uh I don't think it's that hard but it's just she's a combo off kind of character with lots of teleportation as well I don't think she'll be one of the hardest like obviously the lost Vikings are among you know what I would consider the most challenging to play but she to get maximum leverage out of her you're gonna want to like weave in auto attacks with her D so D is also kind of this weird auto attack you think but it targets a specific location on the map but hits the first it damages the first thing it hits and you got to build it up using auto attacks and then you got to weave everything else in the auto attacks I didn't play a match I just went to try mode and tried all the abilities
tried all the talents like did a throw deep dive on what was going on and it looks like it's gonna be a lot of fun um to play her so you know she's great let me let me ask let me ask this question does she feel like an authentic heroes of the storm character or does she feel like a character that got added in maintenance mode um she feels like an authentic character I have a few things I think her face looks a little weird just from a visual standpoint I know you don't really pay that much attention when you're top down so it doesn't matter but when I look at her it looks a little too narrow for how she's usually portrayed I find you know so they I'm just so I'm always like maybe they didn't spend that much time nailing it but obviously there's like there's many um crimes like this in here this storm like Urella looks weird we've had a whole long discussion about the hands of heroes the hand yeah so it's pretty normal for heroes to have some some art crimes going on in there so you know I'm like that's not that unusual honestly no it feels like
a proper new hero being added I think they stopped with the new heroes animating the talking when they say lines in the bottom left corner portrait I think oh she doesn't she doesn't say stuff some of them doing some of them down I didn't pay honestly I didn't pay that much attention just because John's asking I'm like trying to think about I mean I think to me I'm I mean I'm stoked that the characters here I'm very excited for it but I think for a lot of people looking from the outside in I think like to me an immediate logical question is now does this feel like we're back here's a full new hero check it out or does it feel like we found a way to get a new hero in this game so so I think some of some perspective like it's probably because Bobby Codix gone and whoever you know Johanna Ferries is reportedly a heroes enjoyer um so there just might be some renewed
like yes we're gonna give you some content for the old games that also seems to be a trend for a lot of these big companies like Witcher having an old expansion like you know like paying attention to old IPs and not under valuing them sort of seems it seems to be on trend for that the cynical me and this was my initial reaction was just like oh we don't we got we're not gonna have anything cool and big and new till 2020 2020 you know 29 like for four years so if we want some revenue we gotta start doing some shit like this so I felt a little bit mistrustful from the sense that I'm like and we're just caching in on a couple of heroes which maybe what's happening but it's honestly way better than the previous status quo which was just to pretend the game doesn't exist yeah right so when you're dying of thirst in the desert you don't question the mug somewhere in the water and I mean you know are we coming back no like I could think like part of the hype is just like let's not get carried away like they're gonna make a couple heroes everyone nostalgic for it's gonna be happy but we can't go back to the
twenty but what if we do get carried away yeah what if we just want I mean if the game the show I mean it can't have this cable it's gonna work out well well well forever is kind of an example of people getting carried away and actually getting traction which we'll talk about in the new section so but I don't think the heroes cohort is strong enough for that kind of a revival you know I just don't see that happening could be maybe negative but I was I was being a little negative in the sense that I was just like yes it's too little too late this isn't real investment in the game like I'm not excited for it and I was like yeah I just don't think more craft is its own like separate behemoth thing that no other game you're crazy to compare anything to it even things within Blizzard so I don't think you know we should take we should just take this as you like to enjoy this game we're getting some new shit and now it's gonna show up at a blizzcon which to me is like you know it's literally their first announcement which is crazy which and there was a panel for heroes I mean yes it was shared with the Warcraft 3 but they're all
the legacy games I don't think this game you know this game is not coming back to tons of views on like like and I what I mean by that is like you're like oh there's new content maybe I should be a content creator for the game and come back to that and I was like no I don't think so I think that shit was like you know it'll be fun for a few weeks and the nose gonna give a shit because new games are coming out constantly there's constantly new shit and I heroes will get swept in the undertow of that not something as big as like wow or the oblo but if they announce if they announce steam and a controller support and maybe console ports and all of that stuff at the same time I'm not saying they're they are gonna eventually do that or not but if they had done that that would have said a lot more to me about their commitment to yeah more than just hey we snuck a hero in there yeah you know see so I guess Phil was after the demo your blizzcon was a ghost town for heroes yep that's my experience of heroes at every blizzcon I've been to where it's like you online it's like it's an amazing game it's so cool and then you go to blizzcon and everyone's interested in everything else in a very annoying way like it's just like this is my favorite game this is why
I'm here and like I share that enthusiasm with like 15 people you know like the events populated by thousands they're all at warcraft they're all overwatch they're all at anything but heroes it's important to stay I think that's why I was kind of like maybe not that exciting because it's important to took me several years to get over looking fully heroes in the rear of your mirror as like a thing and I just don't want to get debated back into you know oh my god they're paying attention to heroes it's gonna be the best thing ever when it's like realistically it's just not gonna happen so yeah but you know I like logging in and playing heroes it's cool that there's new content I you know bought the pack to show my support for that I'm I'm an approver I got over my negativity I'm just I think it's just important to be sober about you know what that means if you're thinking heroes is bad maybe I just like I don't feel that way at all yeah you also got to remember what reaction content is people at home when we react and I do something sarcastic and then later change my tone how the stuff works we're reacting well we're also not that type of reactor I think
there's a lot of reactions that are like you know it's having bridal enthusiasm I thought that's fake it's just you know we're here to celebrate things and we're sarcastic assholes like let's just what we're gonna get not in the bad way I don't mean that in the bad way but you know we it's clear when we watch these things are like what's with this French guy mispronounce like things yeah like we were like more like concerned with like things other than the announcements and that's just that's just the right man but that's what we do and most people we get it I'm not saying most of you don't most of you get it but there's always one or two my favorites of the ones that go why are they talking on the thing that they warned me they'd be talking over when I could go watch it without the talking why am I here we're listening to the talking well you shouldn't be go listen to the thing that's raw if you don't want to I think what happens to those cut is that if for reactions streamers they often pause and then say their thing right yeah but always we don't we don't do that like because there's three of us it's when you're a solar reactor it's easy to be like pause let's talk about it when there's three of us you know and it would take us eight hours so that's how it is but yeah that's how it is but I would also not take reactions as the final
word on things reactions or reactions sometimes you're something like I hate this and then you you think about it you know like oh actually it's all right and that's how I feel about heroes where I'm just like you know what I don't I don't see why I need to be negative about this at all it's just it's cool that there's some new content it's really cool that they the CEO acknowledged the game after it being ignored for six years it makes me a huge fan of this new CEO as well or I'm just like goddamn like she's I like her I think she's gonna be pretty good Stewart for for the company you know like different strengths and other people that you might like but if she's just there to enable the best parts of the company then she's a pretty good interview too she interviewed um the Diablo 5 panel she was the moderator yeah I saw her on there yeah yeah that was great and she did a really good job she felt it felt like they had a seasoned person of the press in there so that well she also sounds like she's familiar with the games like more than like oh I gotta play this for work like I feel like she's pretty comfortable understanding the games as well yeah she's not I don't we don't
need it to be esports gold tier whatever but it seems like she knows the meal you're she's leading yeah and you never saw she was a really good choice you never saw Frank Pearce or Mike Moorheim interview people at the con true true kind of cool no I like her actually I so far it's I'm a big fan too now so yeah so I played anyways I'll tell we're we're gonna be talking about this con later so I save the rest for that section all right I played Warcraft 3 Reforged but I only played the old missions and not only somehow I guess definitive edition wasn't working on didn't know and everything showed up in the original booty version and I was after playing a little bit I was like I thought they rebate this it's playing the original games like this is exactly you call it booty is that what you call it like booty booty butt cheeks like everything looks booty and then so I fixed it and then I'm like man everything kind of still looks weird because I guess it's that second tier of graphics because I just learned from John today that the third tier
is not in it for the original game yeah so I might wait till they sort that out but I played a bit and it's fun and like John said I've never played in a while so I don't know how to play playing the prologue is very helpful because it's all like in order to have enough food to feed your things you must make a burrow please make a burrow by selecting the burrow key in the command card and I'm like I think I needed this refresher yeah so that's all I did I can't really speak to the new content yet but I did buy it and I am hoping to play the new content me too and I want them to add well John already confirmed it I wasn't sure this is happening that if they're going to add the new art style to the old game that's that's good that's good news but I may wait to play though yeah I think it's a good idea to wait but I want to play it before forever launches it's kind of my plan all right next up we finished late this fire two ascension 10 so the hardest difficulty in multiplayer was achieved but you don't think you already achieved that by playing
with Crofton oh well both both him and Mike were on the floor with me in peperine peperine peaked carried the win but we all contributed these felt a little bad about it no no it was it was pretty epic actually um yeah we had a pretty good run and we barely fought the feet of the first boss as per usual and had to fight a whole other boss and we just got there so so hardest version of slay the spider two completed from the multiplayer standpoint single player I'm still working on and I'm still at various levels of six seven excuse me six seven eight nine it felt weird in my throat as because you said six seven and six bird I was hoping to have it later I can feel it just hang it out my throat all right I'm just gonna have a single handedly bring the meme back now you just got a burp in between it yeah that was great great I loved it I kept I also captured it
I'm sure it won't show up in something else I'm sure it'll be fine yeah I clipped it so I don't worry no it isn't well look so that's great so I you think you're gonna play like this thing still in early access are you worried you're gonna burn out and not play it after no I'll play it along shop already starting you say file and get at it I really love slay inspire okay um yeah I played that and then I played because I'm looking for a good dungeon crawler and I'm not playing the legend of Grimrock so I'm saving it for some reason um I played operencia the stolen son um how's that which uh is not great so it's great in some respect so I think like graphically it's very colorful I like that um they also put a lot of effort into the story which is both good and bad it's like take a GRPG but put it in one of these and you're like I don't think I want this here it's also not a dungeon crawler in the sense that it's in a dungeon yeah a lot of outworld stuff
it's a lot of outworld like it's a lot of levels and story and almost like a grand narrative like you're playing these characters and the characters are talking while you're exploring it just ain't the vibe and it's just like disappointing because it clearly they had a budget and you know had some very talented artists because it looks fantastic I think still even though this is a 2020 game six years old but it's just not the vibe it's just hard for me to call a dungeon crawler also combat is in a separate screen like when you make an encounter sorry you trigger an encounter you move to a separate combat screen like just a little arena or something right like uh yeah and I hate I played a better this time yeah yeah so I just I thought it would be good but I think it's overall kind of not it's weird because they it's like at some point they made a mistake and then mistake was they they forgot the basic old-ass thing they were trying to replicate which the old-ass thing was trying to replicate what we do now with modern games so I understand you know that that that may sound weird but if you're aiming for that old vibe like you shouldn't be able
to move around freely in the grid and this game has kind of a weird hybrid of that if I remember right it's been a minute yeah you can free look with the mouse yeah movement is locked to the grid yeah it wasn't the worst offense I found the writing just got awful in the combat it was it's like moves base it's like I it's like almost like your warcraft character and it's like I don't mind spells and stuff but it just feels like well if you're warrior you get all these magical abilities and it's like I'm what I'm a warrior like it should just be bash like that you know like yeah you should earn things but it just felt you know what I mean it felt JRPG like there's combat right I've got yeah this is like tutorial that he's got like nine buttons he's got like shield and energy it just feels way too not the dungeon crawler vibe right and um it's okay if it wasn't that but the combat's also just not compelling it's just spam you know you just spam the attack buttons so one of my problems with Grim Rock 2 is that there's a lot of outside stuff yeah that's kind of what I'm kind of worried about Grim Rock 2 and it's not
weird though it's such a weird thing to have a problem with because I do this with warcraft when world of warcraft dungeons started happening in vanilla and then you know beyond whenever they do one outside I hated them I still don't like them because to me that's not a dungeon that's just a zone that you maybe even can be around in the real world before you used it before you instant into this and it's like just a replication of that or whatever and even though that paint your face with my blood guys one of my favorite bosses ever I hated the outdoor park is I just like well I'm just outside why isn't he what I'll see this and come help you like it just to me it's dissonant I want to be in a blinded until they added flying as soon as flying was in there then I was like well why don't I just fly here yeah that's true too that's even worse like I like if you have that barrier of like well I obviously I couldn't get to the paint my face with your blood guy because he's at the end of a dungeon right I had to go all through this building and up through this fire but as soon as you have a flying mount you're like well I just fly there yeah I can see it outside right over here and that's where it happens it's right there you can't pretend
that you know you could just get to it so I think there's an immersion thing for me but I do I do get you like it's a it's a dungeon crawl you know you want to feel like you're in a contained area I do like some of the outside the isolation is like I think the key the same vibe I think that's when I was just kind of like I was like these space games where I'm also looking for there's just no where to go for help or there's you know I like those kinds of things too it's fun traveling through Novograd you know it's a different feeling but like when you're looking for a dungeon crawler it's like pretty narrowly focused on getting through the dungeon getting through you know you're you're disconnected from help yeah yeah like you said like why don't people just show up and help why don't they bring an army why you know if it's outside it's easy for everyone to get at like I could fly a plane into the monsters you just come a cause yet you know like why is it yeah then just start until arbitrary and overly constructed and also don't like these puzzle bits
like right here oh yeah for sure this can miss me completely I hated it yeah I did this and I was like it's like this is the wrong game don't make me play mist in my dungeon crawler like why are we doing that oh not missed well bad example bad enough good puzzles it's but it's a puzzle game where it's just like put these laser lights together and then the bad dialogue like applaud to them for wanting to put video like the ambitions there they're like you need to move these dishes so that they the light you know moves around but they somehow manage to make the writing really bad like it's just not it's not great it's very expositional where it's not they're not just being like bro what do you do they're like oh please do not do it that way you must do it this way with the controller or you know what I like this just so like not a good vibe it's funny how we we took we had similar distractions this week with this old vibe of you know I see why it's more long term I've been looking for the the ideal dungeon game and yeah I haven't found it I really feel like weepstone might be it or underkeep like I think legend I think I played it legend of Grymrock one is kind of a goat
and it's very good yeah I'm done with it so yeah all right let me tell you about only Mousha way of the sword yeah yeah maybe like a different genre that's zero that's a good game it's a good game we'll give it that all right but I'll say that it that all you have oh man you know that means oh go ahead no I'm just gonna say most of my time was taken up with that first so I've got a lot of feedback and emails and stuff about you working on your your cool game thing do you think this recovery of the repetitive stress disorder stuff will end that or do you feel like you're just gonna take a break or I mean I don't know because it's like Tuesday like I said I was feeling fine I was at the office at work and sitting at a desk and it was okay and I came home and I just was just checking things out like I checked out zalatath workraft 3 and within two hours like even now sitting here I feel some tension in my neck so I don't know man like I might be a little I mean I didn't commit to like making a game and somehow it's not happening except it's just
been an exploration but I do want to continue but I just I need to take care of it I get it like I just I don't know we could be getting a new chair might fix things like them you know I don't know and I don't really have for they haven't said like oh this thing is specifically injured and needs to get better it's I'm living in that freaking house world I hate where it's like well clearly there's stuff wrong with you what is it sure yeah so I thought even like I can tell you like yeah I've got syphilis guys I'm gonna be taking a break from some stuff like I just don't know no more sex with strangers I like because everything's referred pain with this kind of stuff right so it's like I can tell you my neck hurts but I don't that doesn't mean as a problem my neck like mostly I was worried I was like stroking out yeah which I don't think I think I would have been the hospital by now oh by now yeah you know but I'm just like I have unexplained neck pain and anyways so well don't stroke out before you've had a chance to play all scratcher yep

you're here live john will be doing the john show we'll be right back we're back it's time for us to continue down this road and the road that we continue down is well wrought with all sorts of cool stuff including discussion of game news if you think I'm fumbling for a thing I am you were almost a jiggle sandwich there we go it's time for the news everybody let's get to it blizzcon 2026 happened and we were there we did a thing for the announcement I think we had a really good time I I know I did I won't speak for the boys here but I had great time great time lots of laughs lots of stuff and I think you know a few high points for me were heroes having a moment even though I agree with Bo that it nobody should get too excited about it I do think it's cool that I got its place and I think that showed some respect to the game and I'm I'm down with it um what I got most agaazed about is the thing I'm going to have to wait the longest for and that's the starcraft open world shooter as they described it I think that cinematic is one of the best
cinematics wow has done a lot wow lizard sorry well the company wow yeah top three for me if look mama to moan let's call the mere cat I think the protest trailers better but it's up there it's why like this because I'll tell you why it it heralds for me back to the darker less heroic starcraft like starcraft always felt a little cynical like it always felt it always felt dirty it always felt unimpressed with everybody in the universe like let's show the worst of humanity let's show the worst of alien racism like I think the legacy of the void uh cinematic is amazing like I love it but it is it is a heroic bit of business this was like I started watching it and as soon as I started watching it I was like I kind of hope this ends with us seeing this guy just get murdered yeah some kind of twisted bulls**t horribly like sell us on like kind of lean into
in a different way because obviously we see a lot of this with um hell divers and uh and starship troopers and all of that which is the whole like trying to sell people on uh militarism and but it's just a meat grinder well we got a trailer that like literally showed the big impassioned speech the you know the fury behind it and that it like a literal meat grinder just juicing blood out of the machine after he's dead I loved it it was like back to the tone that I love for it it was visually awesome and it told a full little story all within the cinematic so it is one of my favorite things that they've done yeah easily top two top three cinematics of all time that they've ever done and I'm with you on the tone the vibe the anti establishment kind of thing going on it's when starcraft said it's best when the emperor is a dick and Jim reiner and a few rag tigers are just trying to get shit done that's not this story they're telling obviously but it's
this feeling of like yeah this kid this whole kid is in the raw raw moment and he sure that this is what he wants and he's believe in all of it he's buying the government line and then he gets out of that ship and like a scene in a day after tomorrow is that what was called no the tom tomorrow I just tomorrow they should just kept it died live die repeat like they were supposed to but anyway like the day after tomorrow he got attacked by highly intelligent wolves it was it was a really good movie first of all second of all it had this same vibe of like this is all great until you're facing it and the disc the descendants of the guy still emperor whatever still going we are ready for you to serve and we will give you all you need and while that's happening we're now getting told the part where his guts are being emptied and they're saving his metal for whatever they're going to use all those metals for well the whole story is like that the soldier 76 guy I just call him XC the kind of looks like it yeah like when he when holds holds the characters name right and so one of
the the nice thing about that is that hold is also like top of the class like clearly they show him asing all of his combat it's he's not just some grunt this guy's like a super military superstar right now he goes from bronze to silver to gold and they show him doing stuff and he's quite talented I would say hitting all the targets and all that business and very you know yeah he fits the batteries whipped up and then like the repair guy you know they don't reveal that part or like they show him crafting the armor what you think he's crafting the armor that he ends up getting and they they transition him like oh wow finally my marine suit you know a big deal and then you realize after he gets killed the suit comes back it's just that guy's life is just refurbishing you know when he throws holds badge into a pile of bloody badges like it's like oh this is just this guy's life is just shipping these boys out to die like over and over again yeah you know like it's kind of it was cynical without being like satirical the way helldivers does it it was just like no
this is war and in war like you know the powerful lead whip up you know the frenzy of the rank and file to like make sure that this war is like something they want to put their whole hearts in but at the same time they're just ponds and they're just getting like mode over and you're gonna play one of those ponds yeah so I don't know where that I guess we can expect to die a lot maybe in this game I don't know what sort of vibes are going for them they didn't say campaign at all right I didn't hear any of that talk out of there was zero details as far as I know about what to expect the only thing they said is that it is not a live service experience um interesting and that it is going to have a beginning middle and end and that it is not it is not intended to be a forever game like it is a game play yeah um I do believe well yes they did say for sure open world um I read somewhere but I didn't see this confirmed I did read third person
hey um but I I will say on that one I am not a hundred percent sure if that is more years as I can I can't verify where I heard that from so I think that is maybe the hardest part about this is it was an exceptionally cool trailer I love that I got to see it I would love to have a better idea what this game is to get to see some of the gameplay of it um obviously sooner but you know we we're big fans of delaying if the game isn't good like let's let's wait for it get it right but like yeah 2030 undeniably is a long ways away and a lot can happen there and I don't blame anybody anybody who wants to you know have the take of like yeah what if it gets cancelled yeah what if it gets delayed what if it doesn't happen sure I don't think that there's anything wrong with having a cautious approach but judging it purely on like hey how did I feel about the cinematic and what do I think about doing stuff in the Starcraft universe in that regard I'm
all for it yeah me too we just don't know a ton but man they sure know how to sell things to me with a cinematic and they did it again yeah I don't think we've ever had any examples of something rise into the level of cinematic that got cancelled that I can think of uh the only thing close to that would be Starcraft Ghost another Starcraft thing they're trailer for oh yeah yeah a couple of them well you know two decades ago so I don't know and like magazine articles like they had stuff but yeah people will keep bringing it up but it was a lifetime ago uh I wouldn't 2006 was the official cancellation for the record well I mean I guess anything's possible because it has four years out but um I don't know I new owners so that could be an issue I don't know I'm just not gonna be thinking about this game since four years from now like it's just like it almost doesn't exist to me until we get closer to that time and then I can consider it again look at his face we got a cinematic yeah look at this look at these overlords that's scary shit dude I would lose it if I walked out so that so cool I'm excited to see the universe from that perspective it's maybe the
only reason I kind of wish it was first person is because seeing that shot from that perspective I'm like oh I would love to see this in first person oh is it not first person well again I heard third but I don't know oh I missed you saying that so they that's interesting I wonder if that's a usually we don't yeah we don't know it can do any number of things can change in four years I wouldn't take anything they say even right now is gospel because Blizzard is the kind of coming to me like oh it's not fun let's change it up so who knows this is also the third this is the third reboot of a starcraft based shooter so they've can they've started and canceled two other major projects and this is the third attempt and if and this seems like it's sticking if you're going to go through the trouble of making all this shit so I don't know this is a very elaborate cinematic to have put together for something you don't have faith in releasing yeah yeah I also I will say I don't think it was confirmed but I believe Mick Gordon is doing the music for this
who what is that he retweeted the cinematic and I think a lot of people are looking into it okay I mean I could see that Mick Gordon is he can do his stuff is an all hard driving metal like there's a lot of electronic type industrial stuff that would fit this universe open the stand once too and it contains more than just oh yeah trying to let you see if it got confirmed at all so when they on just a tweet when they fly the my brain is so RTS that when they fly those barracks in before they land and they open the doors and they start fighting kind of it's almost like Normandy style the way they did that those flying barracks that land all I could think of was that's a slow ass way to move your barracks around in that video game I wouldn't recommend it the freaking the freaking surrogate is gonna shoot those out of the sky I must not be the only person that saw that and thought that right yeah well they got to like it's a terrible tactic in the game is what I'm saying is moving your shit around is just well they're they're plums they probably don't
give a shit but they're not they think they're elite units but they're just Marines like how many Marines have died at your hands Planckstark have scoped so many so many yeah I don't think it's probably enough for the ability they confirmed yeah they just get a bunch of junk metal making it into a box put all the warriors in there and go like there you go fight tailings so it's not they're not sending their best they're not putting their Marines in their top quality yeah we should craft that's true they really it did have like like a World War II Normandy beach front thing going with it oh yeah where as soon as you pop up the Nazis get you know it's like it just reminds me of the brood war cinematic which I think obviously is dated but before would have been one of my favorites from a storytelling aspect that that dude in the trenches and like who's in charge here and he just points up and you've got you know the death in the trenches while they're smoking cigars and listening to classical music up on the ship and then things
get bad and they just warp out you just see the wave of zerg going over the trench like this felt like the natural evolution of that yeah like back to that bye bye oh just talking about it because I think so excited it's this isn't like freedom fighters like no man left behind this is like now those are your hair you're screwed goodbye we're leaving the albine we're gonna all be so damn old when it comes out though yeah that was the biggest jump scare was realizing I'll be 50 when this comes out dude would you like to sit in my shoes where I will be hold on this 2030 I will be turning hold on can I say it without fart and blood hold on I'll be turning 60 oh I'm about 10 years older than you and so whenever you turn 50 guess it that tells me it's that some bullshit I'm not happy about this at all yeah like the real pain was was that from that I was like oh my god we'll be there were there be a rumble pack for my ostomy bag or whatever other ailment I have at six oh my
gosh did yeah yeah I mean we not we know they can be able to play this they'll be like my fingers hurt ready or just a shooter oh shit not turn based anyway can I talk about what I think is one of my favorite announcements but maybe not the best done announcement do it let's talk about Diablo 5 yeah that was a weird thing man Diablo 5 I think is weird for two reasons one it definitely feels like it should get more fanfare than it did in terms of stage although I I don't think they ever addressed it but I am curious like there was a really weird thing about their perf their like stage performance it felt like something didn't go correctly but I don't know I'm not trying to hear you John I have a theory John or I this is the same company were the we reforge people didn't even know the release date until they found out at bluescon so this could have been a
what's going on with Diablo 5 they're like not much for barely like while you're announcing it and it's like okay you know I could have been clearly there's some stuff being worked on but you're right it felt it definitely felt like a yeah BTW Diablo 5 we're gonna do Diablo 5 super cool now that said this is the most normal release cadence of a blizzard product ever which I think is also what's throwing people off because by the time it's out it'll have been what like six years or something like that since Diablo 4 sure you don't want to spend 12 years arguing about it before releasing well 2029 it's 10 years from the announcement of of four so that would be because it was 2019 from the but what's the release data for 2021 or two 2022 I think I didn't spell it right god damn it 2023 oh please all right
till I quicker than I so what six years right I get I get that right okay good yeah six years is a normal release window for a sequel to a AAA product and we are not used to this from Blizzard so I think a lot of people are like whoa how is this happening but like this is when sequels should come out was it announced weird yeah is this when a sequel to a video game should naturally flow out into the public yet if not sooner like honestly six years is a bit long still like do you think part of that is because we all assume this was going to be a game as a service this was the new Diablo platform do you know what I mean I think there's a little whiplash to that now I am a big time critic of Diablo 4 I think as a platform it would be the last Diablo I would want to be the Diablo platform I don't like it I think they've spent these years just getting it to good so I'm more than happy that they are going to have a restart and I've
seen people push back on me on saying this and saying like yeah but every time they release a new Diablo it seems like they make new mistakes again sure that's fine and they probably will do so again but I would much rather try with five than watch them try and figure out for for another six years like this is a regular video game release cadence and it sounds cool the stuff they're saying first of all Diablo yeah crazy I know but gonna be in the Diablo video game at number two they've said no towns there's not going to be a town for you to go to in Diablo 5 the idea is you are part of a caravan and you are slowly acquiring new followers new people new tradesmen to join your cause in trying to save the world it's also a lot of randomness so we're getting back to every time you go out into the world there's going to be a bit of a new experience so the days of I
got to run this dungeon again is over and I'm so stoked for all of those things so I'm really excited about what Diablo 5 could be and I am not only this is too soon trained also two things can be true at once which is the announcement was extremely weird and understated that I will agree on but it's also I agree with you on the all on everything else like it's a chance to to get some of that stuff right and I like the idea again it's back to that part of the problem with four is that isolation that I like in these games feels less important because you're in a giant open world with lots of towns to visit full of people doing shit I want to feel like it is rough out here and I'm kind of on my own and it's like your it's like mobile Tristram really is the idea that they're giving us here with this caravan idea yeah I'm yeah I'm all in like it's pretty part of me also wonders it's like hey they're going 1.0 with a plastic exile to their chief competition and they
finally get to make this noise in this announcement about a 1.0 and then Blizzard's like yeah we're working on five don't do don't get too comfortable over there and that you know that game because works still make them you know I felt a little of that yeah but I don't like that I don't think it works in Blizzard's favor because 1.0 coming soon is a lot more impressive than five eventually we're doing five hey everybody yeah I don't think that that plays out and honestly at this point I think Blizzard's best bet is to stop trying to compete with with Path of Exile I think that they are two different games and I think Blizzard is in a better position for the existence of both yeah yeah I agree I agree we'll see what happens also the logo is really symmetrical and cool I like a V great big V you know plus oh somebody pointed out the other they don't remember who it was but the new logos on fire and that hasn't been true since two one and two were on fire the logos
three and four did not have any on fireness so this is like oh that might mean it's as good as two again that's I heard somebody saying I love I love I love the Tim foil hat yeah oh it's car bot that's what it was frozen again shit the car bot guys the one that said it why does keep have car bots been getting real excited about the almost I I feel like we have never spoken to any of the people at car bot but I feel a great deal of kinship because I know we feel very similarly about a lot of video game stuff yeah I'm I'm pretty excited about that okay well thanks for all that sorry I'm just mad at this stupid plug I can move again Brian you're I got free we've been freed let's get to this news oh we can talk about work craft yeah we can type as other stuff so work craft three or four I think we've kind of talked about that but let's talk about do we want to talk about the big warcraft retail and we better because today's entire poster that I'm putting up with everything is our our our landing art is nothing but that
no this is the picture is warcraft forever that's fine yeah oh you want to know I'm just making the joke that nobody cares about work craft retail I mean yeah I mean nobody I mean okay that's not true obviously people do but there's nothing really new there's nothing really great to say except hey they're continuing the patch and then one day they'll announce the last Titan and they showed a little video but it's not like this is all that's not the exciting stuff at all forever is exciting so let's talk about forever let's talk about the single realm experience we're all about to have where vertical progression is the new norm uh no horizontal sorry horizontal progression wait isn't it I thought it was vertical no vertical is numbers go up horizontal is no numbers stay the same okay but I swear people have been I've been hearing it backwards anyway yeah you've been hearing it backwards all right all right hey horzons excited about retail vertical progression baby hilly
when I lay it down I lay down vertically just kidding all right so uh that's cool and uh there's a million things to say I don't know where we start with this one without going to do you start with the cinematic uh cinematic was really fun cinematic caught me off guard when the when the the dwarf decided to go a different direction because they worked really hard to make that look at the same I went I was aware what is he doing like do they have to find their old old blender files to be like how do we make this bear yeah probably even blender then it was probably like freaking my yeah or something like that yeah something real old um 3d studio max 2.0 or something yeah whatever was yeah I was like I was impressed I was impressed I was like oh feels like an extension of that actual whole deal have I mentioned I got three vaccines today and I've alternated between hot and cold this whole show and I may sound like an idiot this entire episode I apologize you're doing pretty fine except forgetting vertical and horizontal yeah other than that you've been you've been
doing a warning to everybody the hepatitis A and B shot really messes with you I am I am like my brain is all scrambled anyway sorry so back to your point bow were you making a point no I was just saying that it was pretty cool to see that the cinematic we're just starting there with the cinematic the cinematic was definitely hype so there's a lot of let's talk about like just what it is so classics this whole classic notion has been around for a while right and this whole buzz about having a classic plus has been has been much discussed over the years we've had season of mastery season of discovery as you all know as you both know I played a ton of season of discovery I am the classic enjoyer I think of the three of us but I sort of you know for my part kind of parked it went like classic plus like it's still classic right it's like it's vanilla wow I feel like I've played it even if they were to do a new season for example I'd be like I don't know why would I want to you know they're just gonna the changes are subtle but they really went farther than I expected in terms of like just fully adding new zone there's like nine new
dungeons and raids um they're providing a lot of graphical fidelity options and things of that nature enough is here to be like oh I'm very curious about this so I got really hyped same I think we all we all had a real moment there even John who's probably the least work-crafty these days and you you I don't know I felt like I'd feel like coming off of you this is what I I mean this is kind of what I want I don't want to play classic exactly as it was because I played it it's you know it part of it being solved is part of the appeal but like at the same time I part of the discovery part of not knowing how things worked part of like this could go anywhere and and kind of be anything like that's all part of the appeal of this and without having to get into you know there was a time where I felt like I could tell you pretty much whatever
lore question you had for warcraft I could answer now current retail while is a complete mystery to me I don't know who anybody is I don't know why they're doing everything they're all way too cosmic they're all like it's just gotten too big too bloated and I miss these days I miss the days of it being about the world and where we can explore and the stories that'll be told there and this is the stuff I miss so it's taking what I loved about classic and it's taking kind of the new stuff that you would want and put that into the game now I'm gonna get to try it I downloaded it because the beta is launched today today it's going right now so I'm gonna get a chance to try it is there a guarantee that this is gonna be exactly what I want when it all comes together I don't know that's what that's what we're gonna find out but at least on face value this is a compelling package because
it's offering me kind of the best of both worlds it's offering me something new but also the familiarity of what I really liked about this world and the people in it yeah same all I would add to that is my biggest worry like like you said I have some visual issues too where I don't like the old world any I mean shouldn't say I don't like it I've played it all I've seen it all and fidelity-wise modern is just a better looking game to me and I think going back does nothing nostalgic for me it makes me go the stuff is ugly they are addressing that and they're letting us have some choice in that which I think is a really cool idea it's like do you want it to look like old asvenilite you can the models the textures all that stuff have fun but they're letting you toggle things like character model do you want to you want the better looking one do you want the old one do you want some of these lighting effects do you not want them to me that's just putting it in the players hands to decide kind of the experience they want to have so that's huge for me I love that I'll I'll now look
forward to visiting old places because they've been tweaked but also those old places are now populated with new stuff in areas we couldn't explore before so I'm getting kind of best to both worlds and there's quality of life stuff being injected that we've learned over all these years but the core experience of explore this world be amazed when you turn the corner it's hard to get like all of this stuff we miss is there with some of these other things we've learned and then doing it all on a single realm is super interesting to me just I don't know having us all in one place there's something about that I know other games do it I know it's not the first and I suspect there'll be a ton of phasing and stuff it's not going to be everyone in orgrimmar all at once I guarantee it it's just won't that will not make sense but whatever it ends up being in those and with those little details it just has never felt like a more new time to like get in there and check this out people are going to be scrambling to get their names and you can do two names now
so you can be if I can't get GERP all the GERP weapons that's true this guy first and last name yeah it's got first all that's all thank god honestly best addition to the game ever yeah I agree I'm so happy about that I agree I'm over the moon now oh my god I'm in the beta right now I wanted I wanted this anyway like the name thing but if you want early reservation I think that's what you got to pay for so the game itself doesn't cost anything forever is free to play with a sub what's your box price I thought there's box no what's your buying is skyborne and the skyborne zone so if you want to play as the new race oh I didn't know I had that wrong that's that's what yeah I think it was communicated a little poorly because it was confusing and then I think there's a like a different looking by the race and then by some extrism top but like they usually often do you can't reserve these names till like someone in the chat just said it like a week before the game goes live I don't know I'm just looking right now at the there's a list but you know they put
in a chart what you get with the various odds are so much higher now that you can do two names what a beautiful world just I'm so happy I'm so happy about this like my god I feel like taking wow forever to do yeah any variation will get you forever early name reservation but there's one here just looking for the note no October 27 only blaster specific while early starting October 27th through November 3rd yeah so he still got a way to do that but because they're gonna wipe your ptr crap you're not gonna yeah yeah yeah you're not doing it now but like it's still like so you can I think the idea behind last name is you can give your characters whatever first name you want you're no longer locked out ever of your first name your last name however will be unique to your oh is that it there it's not looking at the full name it's looking no I don't know it's not looking at the full name so it's just like it's say I make my shawrys because it's my last name and I get it while now I can call my characters Gurp and Revendom and whatever I want oh
you bought you you reserved the surname and then yeah you remember I think you're resuming the last name that way there can be like 50 groups running around oh well they really want to they really are and they talked about it in the opener how not focused but how interested they are in getting back to where all play is a is not just a I'm bored I'm gonna make it up there. So this was a huge thing for me because I was curious about this they're not putting achievements in the game F. Yes this is one of the tense about classic is all those stupid ass systems keep them out of keep them out of classic and achievements is one of those these lists of like you know did you do this quest on a Thursday and did you do it 10 times and all like yeah but that's those they added that during everyone's favorite expansion wrath of the lich king man I thought everyone loved that's not the point that's not the point I think they also added flying and burning I know we're all happy that it's gone yeah so so yeah I think one of those one of those things where I didn't arrive day one hating achievements it's just over time I decided this system is bad this is really bad all right well real quick sorry to interrupt
Bo I got to go oh yeah I'm happy to be here gentlemen you all have a fantastic risk to be sure we will enjoy the kids getting home from school however we figure out dear Martha from here goodbye see you John I'll see you all next family duties see you next week bye okay he's gone no he's not he's still there he's probably he's probably did the smart thing he's gonna miss the rant about achievements he's like oh I'm actually really curious about your take on the whole achievement thing because personally I don't hate I don't hate achievements oh that didn't work let me fix that well it's close I'll just put it up there um I didn't hate it I don't hate achievements I also don't chase them so you're yeah you're not a you don't have like you're thankfully immune I think to the disorder that comes with seeing lists and wanting to have them checked off I do that in games but it's never been achievements to drive me just like Assassin's Creek gives me a thousand things I love
doing those but I don't want to do the achievements I don't care but like it depend like it's not achievements of themselves it's like what you're doing with them right because like it's a completion checklist so if it's just like get to level 30 finished as dungeon that's good stuff like and I like it when they're used like in games like banished where it's like it's more of a target even vampire survivors it's just a huge achievement list but like nothing in there's insane it's like figure it's all it's the natural progression of the game where achievements get bad are like in season three did you accumulate a fit 500 valor points and get champion it's like only one percent of people are gonna get that like that becomes more of a bragging thing yeah and an e-pean thing and not like a quest list basically well I thought you liked that stuff though you not a fan that was no I hate it that was my favorite part of it heroes is just no checklist and that's what I love about classic there's no no checklist it's an unnecessary system it diminishes fun it doesn't add to fun I would agree like like the idea that I need to brag about a number about
doing things um hold on just a yell at boos for a minute boos 731 Scott has no compulsion to finish games of course he doesn't chase achievements eat a poo here's the truth about that I play I've beaten plenty of games in my life but it is rare in a modern sense anyway for me to finish giant 60 hour games it's not unheard of but it's it's not something I do because I usually want to move on to the next thing um even but even the games that I that I've beaten handily let's say spider man the first spider man 2018 spider man on PlayStation played that loved it beat the thing I had no no compulsion to go check the the trophies list and say I need to mark all these off so for whatever reason I I don't know you say it's immunity but I don't know what it is I just I'm not driven by it yeah I don't know and like like I am and sometimes when it's a game you enjoy it's a it can be a reason to keep playing something you've already finished it we just want to keep playing it like right and oftentimes the achievement system can be used in that way to like say like yeah you finished
the game but did you kill all the optional bosses well that's cool um optional bosses seemed like content that matters I speak keep playing and it's it's there as a reminder to tell me like hey there's some stuff you can do like that's a good use I wouldn't even call that an achievement like we call it achievements but to me that's more of like a hey by the way it's like a grocery list if you like this game a lot here's all the other things you could be doing with your time that is not what's in wow wow it's a nightmare like it's 6,000 achievements or something like that and and some of them like I literally tried to get some during week phases where it's like you know like there'll be a zone and I'll be like do all the daily quests with the daily quests randomized and for whatever reason I never log in on god damn day when this one daily quest I want is just to check off this box and I've been playing for months like happening more with it where I was just like oh this is again all the achievements in this zone and sometimes they're tight demands and cosmetic so like oh that's a cool man maybe I want that and I'll try and do this and then I get
stuck on two achievements that are tied to stupid things like did you log in on Thursday or whatever day this thing happened to come in like that stuff I feel like that's hostile towards a player that's that's you're you're putting it in there assuming everyone has all the time in the world to do everything in the game and then like that can make a can engender feelings of just diminishment like when really it's not really worth it but then you have this you have this thing that's like not finished you have this reminder of your incompleteness and it's that alone that really bugs me yeah where's like it it's entirely optional that that's in a game like in an MMO if I didn't finish a dungeon and then I didn't finish a dungeon it's something that feels incomplete there's no reminder you know I'm not getting an email from the company every week being like by the way you suck until you finish this dungeon like you know what I mean like I don't want to think about it like I don't need it again and maybe I play wow for years and I never do do that right and you know what that's fine it's fine I just don't need a reminder that I don't think it's a reminder of things
you've done I think it's a reminder of things you haven't done and I think it gets exploited cynically by companies especially when they type to things like purchases and recruit a friend and all kinds of garbage so I'm not like wholly against achievements I'm just against bad uses of it so there is going to be the legacy system which is going to reward I haven't seen it yet and I hope to see it when I log in today but it's apparently very mild like it's not a thousands of achievements it's just you know did you log in and play a character have you played this and I don't really know details hopefully I'll be able to see it today but if it's a mild list like they said vampire survivors the the content of the game is accomplishing things in the checklist that's fine like I don't I don't feel bad about that it's it's what I really hate is just have to get level 10 alls to 80 you know it's like when is this starts getting ridiculous because they can just sit there and dream up all kinds of crazy things for you to do without any clamp on sanity or common sense and so yeah yeah yeah and I just don't like the button I just hate the
button I click compulsively I have to look at it I just hate I hate everything about the it's wow is to me one of the more egregious ones like retails pretty bad yeah so yeah I'm happy about that yeah I need to I don't I actually didn't know it I missed it in the panel but I'm glad to hear it I don't need it there's a couple of panels that got mentioned somewhere and that's the kind of thing that's a dog whistle free yeah I was like oh shit no jeez it's all right plus it's a whole job they don't have to fill this isn't being done by yeah nobody somebody has to come up with that shit and it's kind of hard to manage I think over time I'm sure there's definitely like tech debt or overhead like every time they do an expansion somebody at the company's got to be like who's doing the achievements and everyone's like not it they touch on those are like not me I don't want to do cheap with yeah and this here's the other thing too is if they're not doing achievements but they do bring in something that genuinely makes a difference like people love like unequivocally love transmog in games period and wow didn't have transmog back then the classic
experience is not cool when it comes to gear it's a lot of clown suits and even the gear itself does a lot blocky bullshit the fact that this is in there is freaking great and the toggle is nice like they're they're actually making transmog better and forever than it even is in retail yeah stoked about that the toggle is good because this is one of those irreconcilable differences that players will have which is some will be fine with it I think I'll be mostly okay with it but I there's a very sensible argument for things like pvp like knowing being able to read what your opponents are wearing right matter to those players so if you're able to camouflage that because of how you look or you know if you're playing in a map that has a lot of green in it and you wear green armor to camouflage better that's gonna be a man I don't know if that's a thing in retail but you know they're messing with colors is a way of gaining an advantage in games too so I don't know I'm glad it's sort of both there I'll probably play with it on but at the same time if the kills
the vibe part of the vibe of classic is that like I don't know people there's this people just looking too good or not looking just looking weird like no offense to anybody in wow doing this stuff but when we raid and someone's like in their pajamas rating I'm like okay it's killing it for me you know what I mean I get that it's their character and they want to transmog it however they want but I don't know I just you know I don't like it yeah it's just personal preference things so that also ends up being the case for everyone's wearing like farmer outfits still like dungeons I'm be like I'm turning the shit off you know I want everyone to be wearing their armor in my fantasy yeah yeah no same I um I think it's got so much potential to just suck us all in again I mean I don't know that I've ever been this riled up about the future of warcraft it's weird Holly did a great job with the presentation and she killed it I think this sort of I think for some people this came this came out of nowhere for everyone in terms of like they're calling it wow
forever and they gave it they didn't just say like by the way guys here's a new mode classic plus we're giving you all the stuff we're asking for they treated it like a box launch like here's a whole new game here's a whole new title and quite frankly the biggest thing coming with it is also a commitment that this is a we're now selling coke and diet coke basically yeah and the diet is not meant to be a comment on either version whatever you attribute it to but it's just so happens it's some players like retail and some players like the pillars the design pillar philosophy that goes into something like classic or forever right the classic has this problem where it eventually becomes retail if you keep doing that like if you like what are they at pandaria now you can't go past that or else you're you're just what are you even doing the lines and double right like what happens when they want to sell their first paid mount in forever that's the forever people are gonna hate that right but like buying mounts there's like 500 mounts now you
can purchase and some people like that stuff and some people I'm a big fan of like you know I've played a lot of stuff I purchased a bunch of doom shit in Diablo 4 I probably never playing again I feel there's sixty dollars gone for that stuff and like I don't really regret it but at the same time it's bullshit you know and I just kind of like I respect the fact that Blizzard's able to and I hope they keep it this way keep a version of their game that keeps the paid cosmetics because I think I just think the world feels more alive if what you're wearing is relevant to that world right yeah I agree it's just you I think the thing we're all missing the word everyone's missing is because it's kind of like you know it has to do with feelings but everything has meaning and sometimes the things you do in the name of convenience service profit take away from the meaning of what we're doing like what it means you know and and and that's like it's a very indelible thing it's a very medicine thing it can be very personal yeah yeah it's like how he
thinks and talks just the way he lives yeah like like when you think like like you go to a dungeon wailing caverns oh you know what I'll tell you what it was something I had beating to be in classic is I think I scraped up enough money like I was farming a lot on the hunter I can't remember if I found I think I found a bow like a purple bow like just out doing stuff or do I found a purple epic and I think I sold it on the auction house and I was like I deserve a tree I've played like my hunter up to level 50 and then it wasn't like the best bow but there was like I could trade it in basically for an epic tear bow I can't remember which one I think it does extra poison damage or something like that but that bow felt awesome to me and that it had been so long playing Warcraft where I got an item where I felt like I gave a shit about the item like but like it actually did something a little different to how I played I had a bit more damage it had flavor and and it was just cool and I'm like I like this bow man it's gonna have to be something's gonna be really good for me to stop using this bow like I just like this bow and it's been a long time like looking at anything in
Warcraft and be like oh this thing I dropped it's kind of has meaning like it it's just it's just ever all on the ramp and like items in classic 10 to have that word like there's just you know there's like this flask you can get as warriors that like is an important drink at the have but it's this dumb flask that behaves like a flask in the trinket slot and has that use and it's just like oh this flask has meaning so you know the hope is the classic team are not perfect an Emerald Nightmare in Saad was kind of a was definitely a big fail for me but I they are trying to still preserve this notion that like things being imperfect are that way because they derive we derive meaning from it like it's not gonna be like a solved game where we've solved we like because that's where the retail expansion feels like it's like we we want everyone to parse good we want everyone to get their key items at the key indicator points in the progression of the campaign you're gonna do your 10 levels in the first week then you can be doing this activity week two then we're gonna
release new quest weeks for you like everything's like mapped out that like you feel like you have no agency and nothing means anything you're playing retail I enjoyed war with him but going from classic to war within it didn't really feel like an adventure yeah it has ever a while there's things I love the guy see it initially and go look at this city look at his own and but then I'm out of it real fast and I'm zipping around and it's all about war you idle level enough for Friday like it's that whole thing we're so used to it yeah too later just like I'm gonna bang out my quest for the first week and then I got to get to playing some of the games I got other stuff I'm just raid logging and even doing the daily it's like like it's so weird because like we have flying so it's massively convenient to get around but at the same time I'm like man can we speed up flying like it's just takes too long to fly everywhere and then that's when I start thinking this doesn't mean anything to me like this is like going to work and having to do your chores at work where it's like did you punch in did you make sure to communicate your tendance did you do you know
all this this this this this this it just kind of feels that way yeah we sort of lost the adventure I think I think that's forever kind of feels like that because a lot of what they're talking about is like we just added some more content but you do with it whatever you want you know we're not I don't think they're gonna be funneling us into activities it's not like you should play the first week and you'll be level 60 and be doing end game the leveling progression should take you a month or two and you should just play what would you feel like logging in and playing and not being some big rush to get to end game you have any beef toward the name I've heard Bale Giller and a few other people say they think the name's terrible and they should have worked harder on the name and I for me it doesn't bother me at all like it's fun no I think it's pretty good honestly I think wow like I think it reinforced even for them it's helpful it's gonna help reinforce what the nature of the product is like it's a meant to not like MMOs are a new thing it's not like there was a roadmap from the 1960s where we like man MMOs in the 1960s did things the right way
it's all a big experiment and the way these big MMOs like EverQuest and these games have traditionally done it has been the X-pack format it's just what we know we haven't had that many commercially successful MMOs that could experiment with what it means to do an expansion and and Blizzard certainly hasn't doesn't that that that's why expansions are always just kind of the same thing even the 13th time over it's not to say they're not made with quality or not enjoyable but they always look the same there's no adventure to it and this is taking the idea of an expansion and saying what if it looks differently do people like it sounds like this is what people want they just want their game world with more stuff in it you know what's happened in Planet Sider we had a big update where all they did was added robots and new guns and new things via Fars were controversial but that's the big robots but like it was still new zones just means we're more spread out and we're not MMOing like I think there's a sweet spot real estate wise where if you add too much real estate in
the game the MMO stops MMOing it becomes a lobby sure and I think like vanilla Azeroth is like the sweet spot pretty much so we'll see if even adding the new zones here has an impact or not I don't know but I think just preserving that sweet spot is like kind of at the core of why we call it forever because like as soon as there's another world thing and everyone's gonna just be in the new zone and never visit the old world again forever is no longer forever it's I mean it's so hard to play old content retail I tried to do it I just like turbo smash everything like it does like the damage yeah it's like a room full of paper it just doesn't have anything I don't even have to hit it like reflect damage alone just like kills everything and I'm like how do I how do I just like see adventures I missed but still feel like it's an adventure and it just doesn't exist for for for retail so yeah I agree I I think there's a chance here to capture that again and I really hope they nail it it seems like they
they also would like to nail it right I mean I think there's gonna be lots of fun new stuff I'm still I'm gonna try it earlier today but I'm still like just remember everyone is still gonna be classic like I haven't heard all of the good news yet but I assume there's some quests with some freaking a** drop rate that are still gonna be stuck in there okay like there's definitely some where it takes you gotta get one item and you gotta kill 99 mobs to get the item you know that kind of shit's gonna be in there I'm even though the graphics look nice or even though there's new content it's still the old-ass game there's still gonna be stuff that I predict Scott that you're gonna be like man this is I don't know if I like this well there's gonna be some trees and I'm not gonna be happy about the trees yeah the trees are probably not gonna be up to standard but I think like the questing is probably gonna be rough some of it will be yeah that's okay because I love the original game when I was experiencing it the question is will I there really is something about if you get to six the 60s no longer your hurry up and get their goal
60 is your plan to get to but it's it's a destination and the journey is just as important it might be the end of the game you might get the 60 and go like if someone wants to invite me to raid great but I guess I'm done I'll make a new character and play some more because it played more craft like crazy people in the chow will remember this but it took me tell Outland to get to 60 so I didn't even when that expansion hit I wasn't even playing it it was too busy getting to 60 and I took my time and I liked it and if what they're saying now is that no longer is that just incidental because that's what it is now now it's just a job you have to do so you can get to the cool end game and you know what retails got some cool stuff for people who like it and I'm glad it exists for them and it should that's great the fact that they're doing all this at the same time is kind of awesome at all and I think runescape or what's the classic runescape now I saw results who yeah let's go runescape is kind of helping to find this a little bit I think because they really that thing really did well and is what
yeah I think they're they're leading the they're leading the torch torch leading whatever you want to call it I think they're they're curring a path for this stuff yeah and like some credit to some private servers stuff even though I know the trepidaceous thing like they are what's clear is there is like an appetite for something that that doesn't lose this roots as an MMO and like I think those thing they're harder to quantify than like graphics or features like when does your game sort of fall off a cliff from that social living world feeling and I just I think it's like something you can't see with your eyes so it's hard to measure like how do you measure that if you're the company how do you measure that we re fall we've fallen off too far one way yeah and you know and if you're a big commercial enterprise you know people everyone wants to keep working at their job forget the cynicism of like getting laid off if the company doesn't make money because the product fails people that you employ will no longer have livelihood like that that operation
also exists where you just do bad with the product and you got to fire people because you don't have money because it and so it's understandable taking away the cynicism of like a corporate overlords shareholders even just the idea like well we just need to actually sell like want the game to succeed because we all want to keep doing what we love you can give into these pressures of well this worked so we're going to do it again without doing the analysis of like this is actually damaging you know what got us there in the first place and I think that's just been the message that people have been saying so I think this is still an experiment we'll see if like a lot of people might play this for two months and then it's it moves to a very small crowd and it ends up not being worth it the good news is because they called it forever it can just forever be bad and they can move on to the next project yeah I don't think it'll go that way but you're right like the other thing to know too is like classic wow has been I think if you're looking if they're probably looking at metrics for
viewership on things like twitch and youtube you know the only fangs guild has been the biggest thing I think to happen to wow from a social media presence from a virality viewership for like like native marketing right like yeah it's great that everyone loves retail but there's no interesting content coming for retail except for race for world first yeah once that's done maybe there's some mythic content creators it's not zero but nothing I think all the people that work at Blizzard were also following the only fangs stuff quite there's some big streamer names they got into that thing and it became a huge community touch stone the likes of which we don't really see with retail right now years no and I think you I think if you know if I'm pitching is to holly to be like we want to do forever by the way check out these viewership metrics people are watching classic they're watching the hardcore death compilations they are watching only fangs streamer drama there probably isn't anyone who doesn't know
about um potion or mana jamboy whatever the hell's name was yeah yeah that got and I don't know what his deal internally is if you had any enemies if they're all like having a bit of shodden front about this guy left Blizzard became a big streamer talk shit about Blizzard and they got smacked down by the entire well community but you know like I'm sure they know all of that and I think one thing you have to look at be like people are talking about classic like they're not talking about retail right now and I'm not gonna say retail is permanently bad or something like that maybe it's just it's that's its turn in the sun but anyways I'm not whoops that's not you I'm not sure they're talking about I've never seen the wild that's not true back in that early and since days like 2008 the fervor was maybe the height of ever being right that was as big as it was ever gonna get or it would kind of crest there you could argue it's that that held for a while and then dipped but it was like that was your moment and a lot of ways that preceded
the the YouTube and the Twitch and the influencer stuff literally it preceded it by time I haven't seen things at a fevered pitch like this since then yeah like that's how excited people are for forever and we may be setting ourselves up for disappointment I don't freaking know I think so so so to pop and I think is the main driving force behind the only fangs guild I'm pretty sure they're gonna do another one and part of what he did really well was getting was bringing in non-wow players to play hardcore like Tyler one who's like a toxic League of Legends player who's like had a kid and mellowed out on that front but he's still known for being I don't know just energetic we'll say bringing him into it to lead and him being all alpha being make it they're like you want to read the guild I want to lead the guild if you're so smart he's like yeah I will lead the guild and they're like here you go guild leader like but you know it it really was like a reality TV show drama central but he had a huge following and and wow is big enough that you
could see there are a lot of people who are maybe really known in their game of choice who would be like I just never I don't have time for wow I never got into wow but then get drawn into the ego that is yeah you might be good at video games but can you make it a well hardcore yeah I think so you know and then and that's like just drawing a lot of viewership to have these big egos come in and get crushed that I think maybe he could find some more you know that was so popular I think they'll be catnip for a lot of other creators on another go-around and forever in this front we may see another era of that you know it'd be and like I said that's just like that that kind of stuff even though like I'm like you gross the the drama's kind of gross it had heroes and villains like grubby was a part of it yeah and grubby was a great force in there and I'm like I'm watching grubby more and man they make they're making warcraft classic seem cool I want to play it some more mm-hmm they need to I think I think that's why I think this is sort of an experiment in that front to be like okay we're fully doing we've heard you you love watching it you love talking
about it you know this classic jalen rack said you think you want to be you don't he's full of shit well you've we've his body is under a guitar somewhere here blizzard I mean it's hard to know sometimes it's always you know you think you know things yeah I mean I just try to be a little generous to him so I think at the Corey might actually be a pretty okay he's an okay guy that the truth is like everyone Greg said I don't know if he said it out loud on the show I think he did he used to he said the team and him when when they were told that they maybe might do some transmog in the game they were gobsmacked they were like who the hell wants that this is not a thing people any no one's asking for this mm-hmm ends up being one of the biggest additions of the game and the one universally love thing whether you like retail or not he just was like we're wrong we didn't know players wanted that that's crazy and I think we all I think jalen brack was same thing he's like you don't want the old thing we made that's why we make new stuff it's improved on the old thing like he was just wrong that's it yeah it's a it's a it's a interesting
humbling the learning curve that we have because you know like I play a lot of ad part survivors this week and I think it looks I still think it looks stupid I think you're supposed to I think you're supposed to I'm just like why would I spend time on this you know my initial reaction was just like oh my god why is this even popular you know I sort of get why but I sorted down and that's okay you just got to be humble about that stuff and like they're all gamers too they have no shortage of like opinions conversations that are like this is good this is trash but really when they say that's trash they're just saying I think it's trash and they're not listening enough that like what you find trashy other people just love to play and you make a million dollars making that trash plus things plus things change man they they evolve and they iterate and they're pretty soon things we thought were a dumb idea stars have a line to make the dumb idea work so I don't even blame Brak for that so much because it was at a time where it did sound dumb on the surface it sounded dumb they go to that company five days a week if not more if they're
crunching they lose sight yeah but not only that they they that was also surrounded by a lot of controversy about shutting down private servers so you have the community rebelling and being mad at the man and the man's going I mean it's our game why do you think we why wouldn't we shut the shit down like it all of that other stuff plays a role in it whether we like it or not I think that it's I think if you're you're you're the party that's getting ripped off on some level you kind of come just there's the whole the whole thing about the piracy where it's just like people don't want to pirate you're just doing bads the Gabe Newell thing right yeah it's not that people want inherently steal things and some cynical thing it's just your service sucks yeah yeah and and so like I there was probably some of that where it's like rather than asking why are people doing private servers they're just criminals you know some sketchy dude in Russia's making a server trying to get your credit card numbers you know at the end of the day like a lot of these private certain it's not free to run the server but they're probably also trying to get a pay day too and you know it's
so they're probably just thinking like negative things at the company like these guys are just criminals they're just ripping off our hard work yeah it's just bad and you're not really thinking about what would make a player want to go to a private server that we're not providing you know that's the real story is like oh why would anyone want to go there like I know I wouldn't but what would make someone think that and then listen and that like that whole MMO conversation we just had is like they're very sophisticated players with esoteric um thoughts about what constitutes an MMO driving over the edge and turning into a glorified lobby and I think maybe there's a large amount of players saying like that's what we think of your MMO now yeah and retail might be too far down the road to really claw back so making a second product like Diet Coke and Diet Coke I'm not saying which one's diet I'm just saying you have two product lines now yeah three really so far the response seems favorable I think it is blizzard it is warcraft there's always weird shit like I
know people don't like the skyborne mm-hmm I think they're just being stupid I think yeah why are they saying that um I guess because it was blue people or just knew it feel it felt like it feels like new content and it might be against horizontal design like this is all stuff we're feeling well they're just really skin blood elves so not really that new you know yeah I think literally they're made the same and I I agree with you I think the one thing is like they you do still want the project to be successful and the fact is blood elves are the most played because people like to play hot stuff McGillicuddy video games and not everyone's brave enough to be a torrent or an orc yeah um you know so there and there is no hot stuff McGillicuddy maybe the female human you know but they're yeah but you they've got this anime waifu vibe already to the blood elves you know and manfu or whatever you husbando um but like yeah so I think it totally makes sense that they put
the blood elf in there to appeal to people and also that that's what you pay for so if you want to look like hot stuff they are gonna extract revenue from you and giving it to the alliance makes sense too because that way you can just play the faction you want to play and be the hot stuff and there you go and and yes it's still old content it's not like it's some new fangled race like you said it's literally blood elves and I think people were because they were blue and it seemed like well why not do high elves because there's literally a high elf in wild classic and the skyboard are high elves they just called them skyborne because I don't know there's probably a lower reason we'll find out yeah yeah I don't know I mean met's not a hand in it I trust him we'll see they're already getting to do you know new stuff in this this is definitely not just classic everybody if anyone goes into this thinking well this is just the next classic that's not what this is this is a I mean I'm sure there'll be some classic stuff I don't know like how much fun is wheeling caverns gonna be in 2026 over it'll be fine but you know
it'll be cool is going up to mount hijol and going oh shit new shit in an old world like it's to me it's this great melding of the two places and I'm all in I can't wait now you're gonna you can't wait to to have to walk all the way across the barrens is level 30 I'll do it raise your fin downs done it before do it again and you know what's back you know it's back in thousand needles my favorite place in the world back by the way there's new ratios for all the classes and the one I'm looks I play torrent a lot they get planes running whereas if you're just running you increase your move speed like you're mounted because they're big cows yeah dude you should check out all of the durations there's lots of cool stuff but like I'm like oh man it's mounting before mounting that's lost I watched a bunch of them the undead one was cool because no longer just eating people which never worked in modern it's a waste like why do you even have it but back to rethink all of that I think is really smart again that's cant antithetical to some people in their idea of what classic should be but they have that game that's what's cool there's a three tiered system the the installer has three wow icons and you can choose your poison and jump between them and
only pay one subscription I am telling you it's the best value they've ever offered for that damn subscription so yeah I'm in on sub now I'm gonna re-sub and also I just bought everything so because I didn't get the message I thought you did have to buy the game I was like well I'll buy this and work after me and then just get them I'm in for 60 or 70 miles will pay for the rest yeah and then after I learned I was like I didn't need to buy any of it um it's fine I'm like you know what it's fine I haven't given Blizzard money in the well since the doom stuff they've gotten plenty of my money actually I'm fine with it I'll live that's fine yeah no I think it's interesting we're gonna probably talk more as we get some time in it but uh there's yeah this is the most hype thing I couldn't believe I was hyped for I was just like if you would have told me before like hey man they're gonna announce classic plus called well forever and you will be hyped I'd be like I don't think I'll be hyped no they sold it really well I think Holly Holly is the perfect person to be doing this she has roots in EverQuest and then started with the classic team at
Blizzard and then took over all of Warcraft like she is an ambassador for the right time I think yeah she did great yeah very pleased but I think also all the people on the clad like Claystone and Nora and Agren like all the people on the classic team and also I've got a really good vibe when they're communicating stuff about the game too passion really comes down so yep that's exciting stuff uh quick note on just just a little side note on the Resident Evil movie that comes out tomorrow tonight actually uh I will not be swips I will not be seeing it tonight because I don't have tickets but I do have tickets for tomorrow night and I'm very excited it is it debuted at 98% rotten tomatoes it's down to 96 at this point which is normal to see it even out a little bit good to trash I guess oh well yeah it sounds like it's gonna be real good I mean look I already like Zach Krieger I was all in on any movies he makes I thought Barbarian and weapons are modern classics and he is the new he's one of the new voices of horror as far as I'm concerned so it was an over-ainter but the fact that it's a tie-in is a little scary you know you don't know how much Capcom or anyone else wants to
dink with it but it appears we have another win on our hands I'm very excited to see this um the way he describes it it makes it feel like the that seven is the big inspire here and I think that's the right thing for a film um I see yeah because it's actually scary oh it's scary as shit still the scariest thing they ever made and it's not full of anime tropes and the the stuff that is fine it's all good I like Leon it barely registers the Resident Evil game yeah I just want to try to say yeah it's so different they did and they did and it really is separate until they made them combine like village brought it together but seven kind of rebooted things and they took a lot of heat for that because people like the characters of Chris and Leon and everybody so they've I think they've definitely handled all of that but um if the main inspiration here is what seven did to my brain oh dude I mean they're not telling the seventh story obviously but it's just you know a guy who shouldn't be here is in the shit and it's gonna get weird and everything I've heard
is sounds so good so I can't wait to go we'll talk about it next week without spoilers and tell everybody how it was if you haven't seen it uh what else or at least John one last thing uh Overwatch business uh any thoughts on the Overwatch oh yeah um hey we didn't put it in this list did we uh I mean it was the least of the announcements or whatever but you know okay I the biggest takeaway is how different um what's his name is from when I first met him until now it really throw honestly it really throws me I sat and talked to that guy about baseball of all things at blitzcon for hours and hours and hours um uh Aaron Keller Aaron Keller and he was still at the wow team when I first met him he moved over to Overwatch and I talked to him again and he wasn't all that different something I can't explain it he lost like a bunch of weight his hairs all different he's got some weight loss in his face I mean he might just be working out a lot and I have no idea like life changing changes to a lifestyle I don't know I just it kept I made me it made it hard for me to focus yeah so I'm human whatever but uh the end of the day
get him on the show give us some give us some of his tips if he's if he's doing anything oh I mean I'm to talk care I hate to say that and it's because maybe he's sick you know because that happens to be that could be yeah I don't know um but uh I'd love to talk to him that'd be great but anyway he uh what they showed is all fine Overwatch man it's a game go play it's got new heroes yeah no look cool I'm just I'm always I logged in and got the free mythic skin so for the listeners mythic skins are actually they're like a hundred dollars I think you're just buy them out or whatever so they're giving one away for free yeah just play one game that's all you have to do one game I played a demon game which I actually forgot to put it on my show now it's but she was fun I kicked ass people like her she's tank right yeah she's plays just like diva except you have a sword and if you want to shoot you gotta put the gun up and you get six seconds to shoot with the gun then you go back to sword shield yeah it's a melee ideal it's a right right heart shield and then you it's basically like a mix between Ryan heart and diva although I don't really know
how the alt words I failed alted twice you know you press the button and you're just like swing swing swing and nothing goes down I don't think I hate anything still got your I still got your skin though right yeah yeah I still got my skin and we still won I still got play the game um just taught on the old like I just failed I failed alted twice in that match I thought I was really funny I can tell you this I don't know it's not called Fisto but the Fisto movie the animated show there the animated what's the fist guy named Doomfist oh my god yeah it's such a hard time remember I don't know why I can never remember the Doom part of Fist anyway Doomfist otherwise known as Fisto um his that cinematic or the it's not really cinematic but the animated short they did that makes me want an overwatch show so bad so this is the thing I think is the most poorly advertised is it's not a show I get what you're saying yes I want a show too but there are way more trailers in the game client than what they show in the marketing yeah I noticed that there's a whole short for Ann Ren and her brother I can't remember his name at the moment uh-huh
booyan or something like that booyan I think yeah it's something like that but there's a whole short for that there's a Freya short and they did one for a bunch of stuff for vendetta no this is marketing like maybe it's on YouTube but like they're not paying to put it in front of your face so the only thing like they have like a TV show you just sit there probably for two hours and watch like two hours of overwatch content motion comics but also cartoons like so the style you saw cartoon is like normal in the client there's like eight of them or ten of them now in there so I just don't feel I feel they don't advertise that enough I agree it's so cool and so well done I just I want more of it yeah because I it really is nice to actually see the characters have some story I guess the thing is the lore has always been implicit or implicit like implied you start a match they say a few things you go okay yeah but they're really sort of fleshing that out now it's just too bad they can't do with game plan you know yeah and a co-op game but you know whatever maybe if this Diablo show which they showed nothing else from other than said it's in the works at Netflix if they if
that goes well maybe maybe overwatch could get get a deal I don't know I would I think I think overwatch is awesome I like the idea of a still dystopian cyberpunk future but one filled with positivity goodness yeah because like this whole thing like you know we're not gonna get into but you know every two weeks like I was gonna kill us you know global warming doesn't exist but we think we're worried about AI I think all of a sudden you know because it's technology it's scary we're gonna die don't worry about global warming but the robot's they're okay with like that like just I can't so annoyed I don't know who this is you're doing but I love it this voice is amazing but Dr. Wawi you know but I don't know who I'm doing if it's a doctor Wawi of it's up like that that's a good question yeah but I just I guess so annoyed with with the whole the robots are gonna kill us all extinction level event it's like they'll also deny global warming in the same breath you know yeah like you don't care about the end of the world
there's plenty of on-ramps for various problems if you want to start carrying about what at the end of the world but you only like it because you think robots are cool so then it's all of a sudden credible but who cares about turning the factories off anyways yeah I like the overwatch sort of like I don't know the future will be bright we'll solve those problems it's the most star-track thing outside of star-track that I can think of that actually embraces a certain level of positivity um I'd love to see I'd love to see a TV show that like goes into that as much as they like you know the the crash-bang boom of toys had it in morning cartoons that it does I think there would be room to explore I like seeing an omnic in a human in a relationship yeah one of the trailers are just hanging out it's like yeah you know rope it's cool don't be don't be reared out by having a robot husband it's just the people do their people just like you I love that yeah I like it too I'm with you I think that they could maybe make something cool but I don't know if the world runs on positivity anymore feels like no one wants to pay for it I mean I don't
know how much this isn't me trying to get you in any kind of troubles don't say anything I just I don't know I know medicine was like overwatched it's an overwatch where oh yeah you know they're big big together I wonder if he ever has any ideas like I would want him involved in it like we're gonna make it over watch out medicine what give me what she's a big he's a big proponent of everything you just said there's not enough heroic we all want these dark anti hero stories for whatever reason and he would like more like twilight captain americans his favorite character he loves four heroes that can be cool too yeah I think we went through this era of like edge lords that I'm glad where I think hopefully we you know what I mean like this axe knight or cut of whatever the hell it is like everything's like he's a hero but he's he's just stupid yeah it's like I'm just dumb with that like everyone's got to struggle I just I think the more humanizing we just need real heroes and yeah in the hero stuff in particular I kind of hope we swing that way although I say that but lanterns is pretty dark so far and I'm loving it
well I'm not saying like never have dark things over again I'm just saying like there's too much of the one thing because it's very easy to write cynicism yeah it's very hard to write heroes that really resonate as heroes that doesn't just feel like generic bullshit that's why I was really impressed with the resource brothers captain america it's like it's the cheesiest he's the cheesiest hero mm-hmm I'm supposed to look at that go like okay yeah I like captain canana because the canana is amazing I love my contrary you know it's just like it's so it's so lame on paper yeah it's born you know it's it's just like it's just patriotic bullshit and this is whatever it's like no they really humanize them and they really genuinely seems to just want to do right by people like he's defined by it mm-hmm not because his name is captain america but by his personality even being a little stickman he's like I'm gonna beat you up yeah they all just laugh at him right like yeah you know that like this the sense of right that doesn't necessarily come out of laws or come out of like order uh is sort of what is how he was expressed and what makes him is that
depiction so good yeah he like Overwatch has room for that I agree I totally agree and the thing that that's what makes I mean captain america what makes him special is that it he's about some values that can exist and rarely do so he's always having a fight for him and when the government of the country that he pulled those values from is the least showing of those values that is the namesake of too yeah that he'll go into hiding and fight that until it's right again like there's there is there is heroism in acknowledging that there's more nuance to that story and others like it than just ra ra you know right right right exactly it's not just like america's the best I'm gonna beat up people in the name of america it's like no like the what is actually at the core of like this your country yeah is an idea of personal freedoms and rights and you have your freedoms but you have a responsibility to do good with them we're gonna do bad with them and it's like his ideas like we shouldn't be doing bad things yeah like yeah you have freedom but we don't do bad things and
we call it people who do the bad things yeah exactly and there's plenty of Overwatch for sure no yeah there's plenty of ground for that well I mean the whole Overwatch lore is they disbanded Overwatch who disbanded Overwatch corrupt politicians who thought they were being too good they couldn't do any bullshit so let you know what we're gonna do now that the robots are gone we're gonna say it's two it's too hard to have a bunch of superheroes policing the world we don't need them yeah everything would be safe everybody yeah we won't elect any weird techno lords and then the narrative is about bringing the band back together because clearly they need to captain America it up and yeah and let it had the monkey the monkey's gonna help them all get back together they can't wait for a paycheck or a job application if it's their role in the world to make it a better place I agree well there you go hot takes all around Overwatch good luck
