1:00Hey, those new guys on the abs are pretty good. Abs win over the Minnesota wild, 3-2 in the shootout. This was a really good hockey game for starters. Back and forth, yes, there was a ton of goal scoring, but both these teams were competing at a very high level and it was just a treat to watch. Yeah, there were some ugly parts that I'm quite frustrated with and that I'm sure Minnesota fans are quite frustrated with their team. But the hockey as a whole, that's the good stuff. The first period might have actually been the best period of the game mechanically for the abs. Certainly the first 10 to 15 minutes, they looked really good at 5 on 5 and they also had two power play opportunities in the period and both of them looked good. They didn't score on them though. A good looking period where you don't score doesn't mean a whole lot and it's 0-0 after 1. We've seen this play out a lot for Colorado this year and more often than not, that recipe is one where the other team is going to eventually break through and score first. But that's not what happened here.

2:01It's the abs that eventually cracked that egg and you know why? It's because of new guys like Nazum Kadri and also Nathan McKinnon. The abs get the puck out to the neutral zone here but it's a bouncing puck that's a little all over the place. So Kale is able to just find it and get it in deep, that's safe and then the abs go to work. And H is on the forecheck there with Quinn Hughes. You saw Hughes leave the puck here. This isn't the greatest angle to catch it. But this pressure is enough that Hughes leaves this just a little soft. It's not a major mistake but it's enough to just leave it in the corner. So when you also have Nazum Kadri charging, he wins the race to this puck. He's the first one to get here. McKinnon out muscles and beats his man to a dangerous spot and all of a sudden the play develops out of nothing and Nathan McKinnon puts just the perfect shot on this one to get the scoring going. And a game where it's been extremely difficult to score such a small mistake from Quinn Hughes gets capitalized on and the game gets flipped on its head. The abs top guys were fantastic in this game. Kadri playing on that top line next to McKinnon and they just because Landascog is out weak

3:01to weak, undisclosed injury but we know where it is. The abs ended this game with 36 shots on goal and 20 of them came from their top line. If not for Jesper Walsh the abs top guys would have just straight body Minnesota in this game. The reason Walsh had seems to play is best hockey against the abs so it's only a one nothing lead after two periods despite the abs playing quite well. Then we have the third period and the abs problem. Going into the third period the abs were over three in the power play and one for one on the penalty kill. That's not good but it's not horrible. Coming out of the third period the abs would be negative one for five on the power play and two for three on their penalty kill. That is truly disastrous. Doesn't take long in the abs second pk of the game for Minnesota to tie it. Blink and you'll miss it Minnesota is going to win this face off here and immediately run a set play where Parker Kelly is going to be the man trying to get out on the point as a forward make sense so that leaves Brent Burns to cover the middle of the ice area

4:03on this pk and he is just a little bit puck watchy. He doesn't step up and take the boldie at all mad bodies boldie well that's hard to say. He doesn't step up and do that as the puck slides across caprizov collects it and all of a sudden Burns finds himself on the backside of the man he needs to defend still an opportunity to tie up this stick though he does a better job maybe this works out instead this puck comes right into the middle not only does he not tie up boldie stick he kind of helps this puck go into his own net on my last video I floated the idea of Brent Burns getting sat and the comments rightfully roasted me by saying there's no chance they sit Brent Burns because of his Ironman streak and you guys are absolutely correct they're not going to sit him it was a dumb idea by me however maybe they should I know they're not going to but maybe they should just because you have an Ironman streak going doesn't mean you're playing at an NHL caliber and if we're being honest you need to be playing at NHL caliber

5:03to be playing every night in the NHL in my mind it almost cheapens the Ironman streak the fact that they just give it to guys once they've reached a certain number of games in a row with that being said if you're not going to sit Brent Burns he just has to play better so play better Brent so that's bad you're losing the special teams battle and hockey is a complicated sport we have to get five power plays in this game and they really don't look that bad for the majority of those power plays they even have multiple really high danger chances but Jesper Walsh that is standing on his head and stopping the abs from getting that power play goal the reality is it doesn't matter how good the power play looks you cannot end up with a stat line of negative one for five on the power play it's just unacceptable and that's exactly what the abs do another power play winding down for the abs unit two is on the ice they rim this puck here in a chushkin doesn't want to engage in the battle because he wants taves to collect this as a blue line as it's going through now the camera work from TNT was not fantastic in this game so you can't

8:11saying I can argue that if you score zero goals at five on five you deserve to lose two because that's what Minnesota did in this game and that's a fair point both of these teams had an area where they were not performing at the level they needed to and when both teams have an area of the game where they probably don't deserve to win they kind of cancel each other out and you got to find a way to get that w even if it isn't the perfect scenario despite the special teams woes the abs are able to get this game back to tied in the third period like I mentioned thanks to the new guys I love the Colorado avalanche depth here a dumped in puck kiviranta goes and gets it not once but twice following through a guy to create a board battle on the far side and niqua immediately jumps in and helps and the abs are able to win this puck and ultimately get it out of danger chaos happens yeah there's a little bit of nonsense with a dropped stick and maybe some contact here but the type of stuff that the refs have not been calling all game so the abs just keep working was able to get it back to kivi down low kivi just tries to throw it to a dangerous area it does not connect

9:13but look at where the forwards go the abs depth forwards all crashing the dangerous areas they're going to create chaos here kulak is able to knock the puck down just throws it on net he's just trying to get it into that chaos area and look at how well niqua was found the soft spot in this defense just a nice little gap where he can play a little bit with his stick and he's able to perfectly tip this one for the abs and get it tied that's just good old fashioned hard work from your abs depth forwards and nice to see kulak set up up and get a puck to the net there where was able to get a stick on it for a large portion of this game it felt like the hard work of the abs forward depth was not going to get rewarded because they were just running out of talent a little bit great forecheck work at times just out muscling minnesota being faster than minnesota but the pucks weren't going in niqua being a difference maker in the talent level yeah that matters for the abs so you get it tied too too late and frankly i was happy with at least one point out of over time in this game it going to over time at least in the direct head-to-head between calirato and minnesota is much

10:18better for calirato guarantees that minnesota can only gain one point on them at most in the standings over times actually pretty fun it started slow but amped up as it went on and it looked like someone could win the game and then nathan mccannon runs a pick play and cross checks ryan hartman in the chest and gets called for it it was a penalty no argument there puts the abs in a tough spot with a minute and three seconds of overtime left despite the abs special team struggles chips are down they're able to kill that minute and three seconds and get the abs to a shootout gotta give them some credit for that in the shootout itself i'm not convinced science can explain it the abs have seemingly figured out how to do a decent job in shootouts nichou shkin performs essentially the same move he did last time and it works again matt bouldies able to answer for minnesota but he would be the only score for them four shooters for each team because this one had to go an extra round and nathan mccannon after playing a great game is almost the reason the abs lose because of his penalty and overtime when minnesota doesn't punish that he comes back and
