Coastal Tragedy: 2 Dead, 1 Rescued on NSW River

A man and a woman have died after their boat capsized on the Clarence River Bar near Yamba on the far north coast of New South Wales. It happened just after 6.30 a.m. today near the Yamba Breakwall. A third person was rescued from the water by a passing boat and rushed to hospital. This tragedy marks the latest in a string of deadly incidents along the New South Wales coastline. Just yesterday, a husband and wife drowned on the South Coast. Officials note that in under 24 hours, emergency services responded to four such drownings tied to beaches and boating. Surf life-saving New South Wales described the past two weeks as catastrophic, with these being the seventh and eighth coastal drownings in that time. Since July 1, there have been 45 drowning state-wide, half-linked to beaches and rips. The CEO of Surf Life Saving New South Wales, Steve Pears, stressed that dangers on the coast do not change with the seasons.
