On March 25, South Carolina football defensive line coach Trivian Robertson faced a life-altering car crash last August 22nd. Just before 6am, while heading to work, his Chevy Tahoe collided head-on with a Nissan Pathfinder on US-76. The other driver, a 35-year-old Columbia woman, had been drinking and died at the scene. Robertson's family later filed a lawsuit against her estate. Paramedics rushed him to Prisma Health, Richland Hospital's trauma unit. He stayed there for 14 days and underwent five surgeries to stabilize his injuries and repair his legs. Drawing on his strong faith, Robertson stayed positive from the start, trusting his doctors like he asked his players to trust him. Back home, he skipped daily rehab clinic visits to focus on family time with his wife and three sons. Doctors limited him to lifting no more than 5 pounds, so he started workouts with Gatorade bottles. His wife drove him to the facility at first, where he'd chat with players from the car.
Step by step, he progressed from wheelchair viewing on the balcony to watching from a golf cart, then standing during practices. Seven months later, he's fully backcoaching the Gamecox defensive tackles, even jogging between drills. Robertson's quick recovery shows his commitment to turning hardship into strength, forgiving the driver early to find peace and leading by example on and off the field.
