Coach Oats Stands by Holloway Amid Arrest

0:00On March 19th, Alabama basketball coach Nate Oates is standing by freshman guard Aiden Holloway following his recent arrest. Holloway is currently not with the team as they prepare for the postseason. Oates has made it clear he plans to support the young player through this tough time. Oates has stayed in close touch with Holloway since the arrest. He met with him in person and has spoken on the phone multiple times, including calls every day leading up to this week. Oates draws from his own coaching routes, starting as a low-paid division 3 assistant and spending 11 years at a high school near Detroit. He says those early years taught him to build real relationships with kids, not abandon them when mistakes happen. Like a parent with his three daughters, Oates refuses to disappear now. He believes Holloway needs more guidance and love from adults than ever during this challenge.
