Clean Friday Great Compline, Tone 8, March 23

The Order of Great Compline for the 1st Friday of the Great Fast, when it occurs during a week of Tone 8 and on the Eve of the March 23rd Commemoration of the Martyred Monk Nikon and his companions.

While it has become common in Greek recension churches (Greek Orthodox, Antiochean, Melkite, Romanian, etc) to celebrate Small Compline with sections of the Akathist on Fridays, the Slavic tradition (Ruthenian, Ukrainian, Russian, Belarusian, etc) follows the directives of the Triodion to do Great Compline (although simpler with less singing) with the Canon of the Departed in the Tone of the Week for odes 1-5 and the Canon of the Saint of the Day of Saturday for odes 6-9.
