3:10memory of course squid game is this hit Korean dystopian survival thriller series where the concept is simple put 456 people who are quite strapped for cash in an environment where they can win a life-changing amount of money the only issue they have to quite literally be the last person standing to get the money the result has been a three-season monster success that has a truly showcased the depravities and limits or lack thereof people would go to to make sure they were financially a secure and what that says about the inequity and inequality that exists in our day-to-day world and so Netflix decided to quite literally monetize it and turn it into a reality show squid game the challenge takes similarly 456 people and puts them in these life or

4:13death games death in quotations luckily now perhaps in a squid-like capacity it's just exploding ink pods on them rather than them actually bleeding out or you know at least showing a facsimile of that and causing many surely worded emails and comments to be sent Netflix's way but regardless the stakes might as well be people's lives on the line because it's led to some intensely dramatic moments massive betrayals all to pursue an amount of money that certainly nothing to sneeze at it has happened now for two seasons and it was already announced that squid game the challenge would be back for a third season but recently March 3rd Netflix decided to announce a little bit of a twist on it just like any good set of squid games proper you're not going to get the same thing when you come in the next time and we got quite the

5:13twist in store for season three squid game the VIP challenge has been announced so let's talk about the source material where this concept came from and how it may translate to the reality show proper so squid game proper these people are scratching each other's eyes out and stabbing one another with forks yes obviously to win a larger prize but little do they know there are some warriors there are some super duper fans watching from above that's because I like the middle part of every session season I should say of squid game there is a time where VIPs are thrown in these are the 1% of the 1% the rich hoity toity caviar sniffers who are so secretive in running the

6:15operations of the world behind the scenes they wear golden masquerade animal masks perhaps to prove the the beast you'll bloodlust that they contain and so they sit upon their mighty thrones and they essentially gamble on these people just when you thought like the world has fallen into immorality but gambling nowadays listen it could be a lot worse you could have billionaires or trillionaires betting on who is going to fall off a glass bridge or not so these people sit in their ivory towers watching you know the the peons the ants below them commentating on them it's been interesting because obviously I got to cover a couple of seasons of the show with shepalad me obviously drew a lot of reality TV comparison something that was heavily underline bolded italicized high everything under the book in terms of font formatting when squid game the challenge came along but we were wondering you know does this take

7:17on the audience and a log of being a part of fandoms of these shows and commentating things from the couch oh he shouldn't have done that oh I'm rooting for their this person oh I hate this person I hope they go out soon just taken to the most extreme level is this more so representative of again the fact that as much as these people think that they are independent thinkers that they are essentially players in a larger game themselves I'm not entirely sure you could do entire dissertations on it what I will say actually about it is arguably no I'll say in arguably if you ask any squid game fan the VIPs are humanively the worst part of squid game and there's you know a number of reasons you can attribute to that playing don keuk who is the creator the inspiration or the mind I should say behind a squid game is a native Korean speaker all of the VIP scenes no matter what language you watch are in English so

8:21you know you're going to get kind of stupid writing and delivery because even if you are multilingual sometimes things don't necessarily translate from one language to another they're just very oddly performed from the actors as well it almost brings things to an odd halt as you are just riveted by the interpersonal dramas you know depressed by all the heartbreaking loss that exists in the game and then you got to go back up to frickin statler and wall door for the worst lines you've imagined from a Netflix script in quite some time which is saying a lot so hopefully the VIP experience does not necessarily mimic that but it does seem like they're bringing that facet into squid game the challenge proper here's where things get a little confusing so this was announced as squid game the VIP challenge this was to imply that this

9:22is something separate from squid game the challenge we will get into this in a little bit this is a cast of eight VIPs eight celebrities they have the iconography down to the masks as well in the video that was released by Netflix over the past day or so and when you read the description from Netflix which is rather vague rather scanned you know much like the the squid game show proper not wanting to give too much away too quickly all it really says is quote eight VIPs will step into the high-stakes game and put their wit strategy and skill set to the ultimate test when this news first came out I think a lot of people had a very similar conclusion to jump to understandably so when you are given this mad live you cannot help but fill in the blanks and most likely that will be filled with kind of all the same words of the sentence given the tamper of reality TV today which is okay is this celebrity squid game

10:27the challenge so obviously a much smaller scale we have you know 150th the size of a typical squid game at the challenge cast with just eight people is this going to be like a two to three episode thing is this going to be like RuPaul's secret celebrity drag race where it has nothing to do with what the show is and maybe they'll all be competing to share a prize or will only one of them win a prize or will none of them win a prize at the end of the day and said they win influencer advantages over what's to happen in the show proper there are so many questions that have been provided by this but I think the conclusion that people jump to and again I will say logically so is that okay this is something separate it's been given on different title by many different pieces of deflex media squid game the VIP challenge there's something to exist completely separately from we'll say the civilian the OG the vanilla squid game the challenge weirdly that might not be the case and this

11:37is information courtesy of one of the best reality TV forums out there on the social media streets reality TV underscore underscore fan who as they are want to do posted the eight names that were released for squid game the VIP challenge but dropped a very interesting tidbit here they said that this is season three which was previously announced this is a part of season three so this sounds like it's not something that is entirely separate this isn't like a mini series that's gonna run before season three proper another Netflix example I'm thinking about the top of my head is like the celebrity great British bakeoff episodes that they do for the holidays what this seems like more so is like the first twist of season three proper announced but reality TV underscore underscore fan says is that there will be like an actual season of

12:38squid game the challenge there are still going to be the people in the green jumpsuits competing in these games hopefully gains a hefty payday at the end of it but now we're throwing in the celebrities as well which of course like any good twist from from a prestige TV show just begs further questions because what the language that's Netflix and to doom implies is that they're going to step into the high stakes game and put their wit strategy and skill set to the ultimate test that seemed to imply that they were participating in the games but the roles of the VIPs were voyeuristic only they purposely were not getting their heads dirty whatsoever in all of the carnage that was beneath them so is it like they are going to play a part but it's more so the influence they have from outside the game is this something like the hunger games where they

13:41are going to be sending like advantages and disadvantages to players we did deal with that a little bit in season two they brought more individual advantages and disadvantages into the the bunks I should say to wreak havoc on the game could this be something that's provided by the celebrities proper because I will say if you thought the they don't get the point commentary of Squid Game the challenge was prevalent with the idea of this show in its first two seasons to then put eight people who have a good amount of net worth to them certainly more than your average layman that is going to be inside Squid Game the challenge they're going to be torn to shreds unless they have like some sort of implicit immunity all the way until the final bout what are you doing are you just pounding these people into prime rib ground beef to just throw out for others to devour who the heck would side up for that so I have to

14:46imagine there is some sort of like appeal to why they are there maybe we're going like full voice here and like they will pick players each of the celebrities to coach or have represent them almost like choosing a fantasy team but in this case like you will directly get to call up your fantasy players and be like hey if you shake a couple tackles and get me like 50 more yards so I can beat my boyfriends cousin that be fantastic I don't know if they were actively a part of this show I really would not enjoy it just because again as odd as the concept is to me of actually bringing this societal commentary to life in a non-sarcastic way it does feel like a pretty clean and pristine game when it is just these 456 people operating within this sustained environment when you bring in outside influence in so many ways that could

15:51just hamper the game and I don't think necessarily it's like the game has needed to change we've done it for two seasons it's produced two road outcomes now we got to try something different you don't have to necessarily throw the baby out with the bathwater I probably should not say baby in squid game too much especially if you know what happened in seasons two and three but the more I find out about this and specifically the idea that this will be a part of season three honestly the more confused I'm going to get I mean could this be something more like a goggle box where they're providing commentary on what's going on that could be interesting I don't know why we need eight of them I don't know why we need these eight people in particular if they're just going to prattle on and on about what so and so did in mingle but that could be a possible use of them I mean as I mentioned before we are really bathing in a culture of

16:54celebrity reality TV which is so funny because I feel like one of the major tropes that existed in the 2000 especially right was like all right if you were a dealist celebrity you'll went on to reality TV because that was the only thing that would take it this point Hollywood could it so go non-union and throw yourself into a jungle or on a dance floor and then that became a little more taboo and celebrity staved away from it but now it's really come flooding back unless it's been there for a while with stuff like mass singer and dancing with the stars consistently but honestly what traders has been able to bring back into the mainstream which is this idea of like oh no if you're a celebrity this can actually be an incredible gateway and actually boost your career either re-energize you or put you into a stratosphere that you've never known before it has I think opened up a network's rolodex in a manner of speaking to be like oh we want to do eight VIPs for this show sure we could

17:59definitely bring it eight of these people they'll breeze in for a weekend check it out get paid a hefty sum or they'll be seeking to get paid a hefty sum and they'll feel like they'll get some notoriety from it so again there's a lot that needs to be answered I think we don't have any estimated date as to when this is going to air I am I have heard it's going to be later this year it seems like that announcement is indicating that it that's probably going to be the case so hopefully we'll find out more details as we get closer and closer to it my best guess and again this is a completely uninformed opinion and maybe I'm just going off of again what reality TV underscore underscore fan said is that they are going to be playing some sort of ancillary role in season three I could again see that atmosphere where they are like awarding advantages and disadvantages think of it almost like extracted where it's like these are my

21:08VIPs are and I am laughing because I'm going in a certain order as was advertised by Netflix and I just don't know how to quit you Dylan Efron this man follows me everywhere every reality show it seems the Efron seeds have been spreading and blooming beautifully I might say so let's let's talk about Dylan Efron here if you have somehow been disconnected from the world of reality television for the past year you need to learn that his name is Dylan yada yada yada that meme is one year old by the way how wild is that like we could theoretically start potty trading that meme at a certain point felt like ages ago get absolutely yesterday maybe it's because Dylan Efron has been stepping foot on so many different shows in the reality TV circuit of course Nicholas Dylan Harrison Efron is initially colloquially mere slugs in the

22:15earth would refer to him as Zach Efron's brother if that is not him he is much much more than that as he proved during his wedding game on the traders season three definitely consider one of the fan favorites of that season the golden boy the golden retriever whatever golden metaphor you want to use there you know we'll be on the streamer that popular is the song golden very soon but Dylan then made his way that fall onto dancing with the stars were yet again everyone fell in love with him he made a huge run all the way to fourth place which is saying a lot for somebody who again I say this with no impunity what's probably the least famous person on that cast you know was known largely as a recent reality star and the brother of a star themselves but don't star was quickly on the rise to the point where he produced his own

23:16reality show soon after with his new BFF and talk about the surrealities of surrealities him and Boston Rob Mariano doing reality TV together in the form of everything's a competition which is this new YouTube show where they face off against each other in a wide variety of challenges but no Boston Rob to be seen here as Dylan is making his way into squid game the challenge definitely the person who I would say has the most reality TV experience but I get from a competitive perspective it definitely the most recent reality TV experience here he is yet again adding another show to his Thanos like conquering of unscripted content you know I was thinking about this when I saw the VIP list arguably Dylan Efron might be the biggest success story

24:16in the history of the traders now that's grading on a very large curve because the entire onus of the traders from a US perspective is kind of like an all-star celebrity show and so because Dylan came in as one of the lesser-known entities into season three he obviously had much more exponential growth and someone like Boston Rob who had a lot of people renewed in you know who he was as a reality TV figure or discovering him for the first time but also like was meteoric in the early 2000s it's just been an entire upward graph for Dylan Efron but I feel like it's influenced so much not to get too much into the meta behind traders casting but and obviously he was not the first to be in sort of this pilot peat role nor was he the last nor will he be the last but like you can draw the line between casting Dylan and casting Colton as this alpha male faithful of the faithful able to sort of bro down but also spot a trader in their

25:24midst type of character there's the idea that Dylan ends up I think surprising a lot of people both on production and in the fandom as well with what he was able to do and the success he brought as a result I don't think it's a coincidence that season four brought in this wide variety of non-reality celebs you're Steven Colletties you're Eric Noms you know obviously the Johnny and Tara are more so to do with the Olympics but Donna Kelsey this idea of okay maybe we don't need to necessarily cast people that have this vast amount of on-camera experience from a reality perspective but Dylan has now put in more work than some of the people he was playing traders with in the past year considering everything he has done he has also talked about you know being a survivor superpan is a big fan of these types of games not sure what game the challenge is was on his binge on the flights he would take between these shows but if there's someone who would throw themselves entirely into the game either as a participant or a voyeur it would definitely be Dylan

26:28but let's talk about someone else that is certainly put themselves out there on reality TV but in a very different way let's talk about Hannah Godwin so I actually mentioned Colton before and how he may have been following in Dylan's footsteps but Hannah very closely associated with Colton considering that she appeared on his season of the bachelor and she got his first impression rose made it all the way to the final three before that tracking just lost its mark in a manner speaking and she ends up getting eliminated they're just short of the final two but she eventually does have a happy ever after as she ends up going on to bachelor in paradise in 2019 where she met fell in love with gone engaged to and eventually married Dylan and I believe the two are still happily blissfully living their life together and so I'm always intrigued to see what bachelor

27:29nation representation happens especially now that bachelor in paradise is back obviously the population in terms of its alumni grows every single year though maybe less so nowadays considering we don't know what shows are canceled and what shows are not I feel like Hannah hasn't done anything from a reality TV perspective since she was on bachelor in paradise which was seven years ago at this point so kind of wild to like have her come out out of all people maybe it's like Hannah Brown you know who she competed alongside with in multiple ways decline and so Hannah was in true pageant style a lovely first alternate and stepped in there let's talk about another veteran of reality TV you know it's a party with these back and nailian symbols of the VIPs and squid game the challenge and she is certainly never tardy to the party it is Kim Zulsey at Kim was on I've

28:33like six seasons of the real housewives of Atlanta certainly made a stir when I'm maybe not the highest note and I'm not just talking about the music that she would make unlike Hannah Kim has been treading the boards of reality TV more recently she was actually part of it I believe I did a reality flash right did some sort of podcasts about this I'm remembering about the surreal life reboot of the reboot they tried this a couple times on MTV again really stretching the definition of celebrity I remember Kim was on the most recent version villa of secrets that aired in 2023 and so listen if Kim could live alongside Chet Hanks I think she is more than happy to get down and dirty in the pursuit of some some of money next up Christie Sarah I who is this is the probably the biggest question that a lot of people were asking and she is a content creator

29:39she's a massively popular content creator she has 10 million followers on Instagram and 17.5 million followers on TikTok she gained a reputation on those platforms primarily through family friendly content she pulled a lot of pranks on her family and that she did a lot of lifestyle home design content she actually in 2023 was recognized by Forbes 30 under 30 for social media influencers so this is someone who knows how to hustle and someone who knows how to innovate and let's an alump some money might be nice to have given recent news which I believe squiggles them challenge probably filmed after this but I believe it was announced in January that Christie Sarah who's actually named Christie Sarah small divorced from her husband Desmond she also goes by Christie Scott as well so again there's lots of S names lots of rebrands

30:43happening at the moment truly does feel like a social media platform oriented person but I believe yeah they they decided to separate as of earlier in 2026 so obviously she's been going through a lot of life changes and we shall see if that manifests in some sort of way in what she's able to bring to the VIP lounge I hope they call the VIP lounge there's like a nice velvet rope if they play the games and they keep them on a velvet rope away from the contestants there's a VIP section then I may be back it on the idea of them actually participating in the challenge proper that might be scary as a prospect but this person knows her way around scary it's my favorite city in Australia Melb I'm sorry Mel B of course one of the iconic spice girls but it feels like the more generations that have come after my own the less known she is for that and that's because Mel B has shown her face around a wide variety of reality shows chiefly as a judge

31:51I think from an American perspective she is now most well known for her role as a judge on America's Got Talent we've she's been she's been doing for quite some time well of course we doing it for the most recent season as well but has been a reality TV star in her own right ship here on one of the I think like fifth season of dancing with the stars made a very deep run in that to better than Dylan but people may not either know this or remember this this is not Mel B's first Netflix reality show that's because season four of the circle the circle in general was just kind of trying all sorts of crazy crap so season four of the circle Mel B enters alongside Emma Bunten course baby spice and they are cat fishing together as one person and they hang out for like the first half of the season but they're not there to you know steal money from anybody to vote

32:52anybody out they can't read anybody they can't block anybody instead they're sort of operating within this game within a game where at the end of their predetermined stay then everyone has to guess who the spice girls were cat fishing as and if they did it would increase the prize money maybe that's a progenitor for what we're going to get here maybe not guessing who the VIPs are but I would also be really fun if we went full mass singer and we're like okay who's behind the donkey mask mmm it's giving me Kim Zolciak vibes I think it might be her but maybe this is something where again they are doing their own sort of separate side competition series while everyone else is getting into the game's proper so Mel at that point was sort of like one foot in one foot out but it seems like whatever this competition might be she is fully in and you know Squid Game is ultimately a a game where two become one I guess especially in that final game

33:56let's talk about Ryan Sirhant another Netflix star of course it a much wider more visible variety on the streamer than Mel B because this is the lead and executive producer of owning Manhattan so he has been a reality star for some time he of course was on shows like million dollar listing New York million dollar listing Los Angeles becoming a simultaneous real estate agent in reality star and like any good real estate agent essentially he went for broker went for broker and decided to create his own reality series so I think there's going to be so much content around this guy he knows how to wheel and deal I'm sure there's going to be some sort of negotiation aspect and this guy will go full Angelina and be able to broker some sort of handshake between everybody only for it to get broken very soon I mean listen Sirhant and Sirhant there's only a couple of letters off there but it's understandable that we get a little bit of a network synergy happening here

35:01let's talk about someone that is as far away from network synergy as you can possibly imagine let's talk about Tristan Thompson okay for those of you that don't know Tristan Thompson is an NBA player he's been playing I believe for 13 seasons primarily for known for his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers he won an NBA championship about 10 years ago at this point but even if you were not necessarily a sports fan you might know the name because this man is very well connected to Chloe Kardashian I just want to like run down the sheet here because I was remembering this a little bit and then reading back up on the history my god this guy makes this man looks like Robert Bull Rathion look like a nun at this point so Tristan Thompson's been this in this on again off again relationship with Chloe Kardashian they started dating 10 years ago again maybe it was straight off the cabs winning the NBA championship when he had been

36:03cheating on his girlfriend who was pregnant at the time with Chloe Kardashian then they officially you know consummated their relationship and had something to show for it as in 2018 Chloe Kardashian gives birth to their daughter but then of course there's a lot of stuff that comes out about how Tristan Thompson may have cheated on Chloe Kardashian during her pregnancy and then if not only that it was a quite inside the family not first degree but second degree as I think the rumors are that he cheated on her with Kylie Jenner's best friend at the time Jordan Woods so obviously lots of strife between Tristan and Chloe Kardashian and then when he gets into COVID and there's this like Ben Stiller Christine Taylor sort of story where they were quarantining together and despite being on the rocks going in it was a little bit more smooth sailing coming up maybe they

37:06gained a little bit more appreciation for one another having to be around each other all the time and then resume their relationship where they just consistently were going hot and cold summer 2020 June 2021 on then a few months off and then October to December 2021 on then like seven months after that July 28 2022 they had another child together via surrogate but then this man just cannot resist himself as it turns out that while he was dating Chloe Kardashian he was knocking Jordan's I suppose with another woman who then gave birth to another son so this man knows how to invest his sperm I guess is the weirdest way to put it in the right surrogate would would be proud of the assets that he's been able to yield it shows that perhaps he is someone who is known to get him dead with a lot of different possible alliances but this man has certainly

38:10gained a reputation in more ways than what and we shall see if he goes from perennial baby daddy to having been told who's your daddy is crush under any one of these VIPs but last and certainly not least let's get into quite the familiar face but in a very different way from these VIPs let's talk about Viper and I'm not talking about DJ Tanner's boyfriend from Full House so for those of you who don't know Viper was a contestant on season two of Squid Game the challenge he was this very fun soul cycle instructor slash DJ who had this this emulant personality it went out in a really heartbreaking fashion where one of these games was very simple it was catch you basically stood in the center of the room you threw a ball to somebody if they caught it you're safe and they become the thrower if they drop it you both are out so Viper ends up trying to eat this ball to

39:12this guy named Dalton Dalton drops the ball certainly a big to do because Viper is in hysterics besides himself Dalton immediately shrugs it off in the moment like no big deal in fact seems to kind of like mock Viper a little bit makes Viper believe that Dalton may have for lack of a better term thrown the competition that he obviously did not care he felt he needed redemption and it's luckily an opportunity it presented itself uh straight out of Squid Game the show proper as at the end of the season Netflix did a fan vote of here what like five eliminated contestants who did not make it to the end of the game who do you want to see come back for season three and Viper won the vote uh he said in a statement that uh he plans to cause total chaos in the game when he returns quote I did learn that every single decision should be considered in great detail I will surely use a microscope with every choice I make now what is interesting about this

40:16that again goes back to the confusion around this entire concept is that a lot of people assume Viper would just come back as a player that he would be given a second chance in the game instead he's made a VIP now maybe it's because you can't spell Viper without VIP so it seems appropriate but he's coming back in a different role it seems and I'm not sure if that's something that he wants and I'm not sure if that's something that we might want but I want to hear what you want from this new announcement especially if you are a die hard for squid game the challenge what is your speculation as to what this is going to involve again if our assumptions are correct that reality TV underscore underscore fan is stating that if it does seem like they are going to be a part of the season in some way what role do you think they'll play and what role do you want them to play do you want them being thrown in amongst the other 400 plus people
