The FBI searched his home and the district headquarters on February 25. Two days later, the school board unanimously placed him on leave. This week he issued his first statement denying any wrongdoing and calling for his reinstatement. The search has also hit a property near Miami, linked to Debra Kerr, who worked with all here in education tech firm that once had a contract with the district before it fell apart amid fraud charges against this leader. Carvalho has said he had no personal role in picking that company. District leaders say the leave is to keep things steady for more than half a million students in the nation's second largest school system. Andres Tate, the chief of school operations, is now acting superintendent. The board wants to avoid any distractions from teaching kids. Carvalho came to Los Angeles in 2022 after leading schools in Miami.
