Cardinals Sign RB Tyler Allgeier

About this episode

The Arizona Cardinals have signed running back Tyler Allgeier from the Atlanta Falcons, bolstering their backfield for next season. Allgeier, a fifth-round pick in 2022, rushed for over 1000 yards as a rookie and scored 8 touchdowns last season. The two-year deal worth $12.25 million replaces the injured James Conner and rookie Trey Benson, leaving Michael Carter, Emari Demercado, and Bam Knight as free agents.

This is Corey with NFL News Today, powered by the Daily News Now. Subscribe for daily updates on your team. The Arizona Cardinals just made their first big splash in free agency by agreeing to sign running back Tyler Algear from the Atlanta Falcons. It's a two-year deal worth $12,250,000 according to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler. Algear is a fifth-round pick out of Brigham Young University back in 2022. He rushed for more than 1,000 yards as a rookie, but has mostly been the backup to Bijan Robinson since then. Last season, he put up 214 yards and a career high 8 touchdowns, though his yards per carry dropped to 3.6. This move really bolsters the Cardinals' running back group, which got hammered by injuries last year. James Conner, now 31, missed time with a season ending ankle issue, and rookie trade Benson sat out after four games with a knee problem. With Algear on board, the team now has him, Conner, Benson, and Corey Keiner locked in

under contract. That leaves Michael Carter, and Mari DeMercato, and Bam Knight as free agents heading into the off season. Officials expect the deal to be official soon, giving Arizona a more durable and physical backfield to build around for next season. The Daily News Now is presented by our sponsor.
