Cardinals Release QB Kyler Murray, Face Steep Price

The Arizona Cardinals made waves in the NFL by announcing they were released quarterback Kyler Murray when the New League year kicks off on March 11th. They could not find a trade partner and aim to sidestep his $17 million roster bonus due on March 15th. That bonus would have locked in $19.5 million in salary guarantees for him in 2027. And so, the split comes at a steep price for the team. Murray has $36.8 million guaranteed for 2026, which the Cardinals must cover despite cutting him. Their only offset comes if he signs with another team at the league minimum of $1.3 million, leaving them to pay about $35.5 million. Meanwhile, salary cap relief will be limited and delayed.
