The Arizona Cardinals cleared some capspace this week by releasing defensive linemen Belal Nichols and linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaether on Thursday. March 5th. The move saved the team around $11 million total as they gear up for free agency. Nichols signed as a free agent in the offseason, but barely played, logging just 193 snaps over two years. Let's note he earned $12.8 million with the Cardinals, averaging over $1 million per tackle. Davis-Gaether ranked second on the team in tackles last season, yet his release frees up $5.2 million while leaving only $1.5 million in dead cap money. The team also passed on tendering restrictive free agent running back Emery DeMercato, a 27-year-old who had 44 caries for three, 112 yards, plus 13 catches for 101 yards, and a touchdown.
