From the Daily News Now Network, this is NFL News Today. Subscribe to keep up with every headline, every game. The Arizona Cardinals kicked off their salary-cab clean-um by releasing linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaether and defensive lineman, Belal Nichols. These moves free up roughly $11 million combined ahead of free agency next week. Nichols saved the team $5.8 million, while Davis-Gaether accounts for $5.1 million. Added to Kyla Murray's pre-June first release, Arizona now sits at $39.6 million in cap space. Nichols joined on a 3-year, $21 million deal last off-season, but managed just 10 games over 2 years because of major neck and knee. Injuries Davis-Gaether played all 17 games last season after signing on to fill a linebacker gap. Meanwhile, cutting Davis-Gaether signals trust in rookie Cody Simon, who stepped up as the defensive signal caller. The defensive line still needs bolstering, even without Nichols, and the team recently hosted draft prospect Kayla Banks.

Defensive coordinator Nick Rallis returns with plans to tear down and rebuild the unit. Tabring starts March 9th, and the new league year kicks off March 11th. This story is made possible by our sponsor. You know it is better than earbuds in bed? No earbuds at all. S-O-L-I, solypilo.com
