Cardinals Cut Nichols, Davis-Gaither, Save Cap Space

The Arizona Cardinals made two expected roster moves this week by releasing defensive lineman, Belau Nichols and linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaether. Both cuts were aimed at freeing up salary cap space ahead of the New League year. Nichols had signed a three-year deal worth $21 million back in 2024. He was a reliable veteran who had not missed a game since 2019. But in two seasons with the Cardinals, he only appeared in 10 games for a total of 234 snaps. Davis-Gaether came on board last off-season with a two-year contract valued at $10 million. He started 13 of 17 games, racking up 117 tackles and interception and leading the team with 20 special teams. Stopps. Still, the rise of rookie Cody Simon pushed him toward a backup role. These releases saved the Cardinals a total of $11 million in cap space.
