The Arizona Cardinals have added veteran quarterback Gardner Minshue as the backup to Jacobi Berset for the 2026 season. This move comes after they parted ways with Kyler Murray and missed out on other options like Malik Willis. Minshue brings solid experience to the quarterback room on a one-year deal. Earlier this week, talks with Jimmy Garoppolo fell through, forcing the team to shift directions. Garoppolo had worked under new head coach Mike LaFlure in the past, with the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams. The exact reason for the snag remains unclear, but it might involve salary demands or reluctance to compete for the starting job. Reports suggested Garoppolo could have started in Arizona, with Berset potentially on the trade block. Meanwhile, the Cardinal signed Minshue to a deal worth up to $8,250,000, including incentives. They still have just shy of $50 million in cap space, even after other roster moves.
