Welcome back to Lexx Education; the comedy science podcast where comedian Laura Lexx tries to learn science from her younger brother Ron!
Listen folks, we mustn't lie to you: Ron is padding the episode. For the first time ever Ron really wants Laura to be as distracting as possible because there’s not enough of the syllabus to make a whole episode so he’s finishing up something small and saving quantitative chemistry for next time. To be honest, it's hard to tell it apart from the usual episodes, but we want you to know that the lack of content is on Ron for once, not Laura.
We are specifically looking at carbon, how carbon bonds. We get on to diamonds and how and why they are strong and beautiful.
Sketchfab.com is the website where Laura was exploring the structure of diamond to look at. Be careful not to zoom out too far.
Then we move onto graphite and why even though graphite and diamond are made of the same thing, they are very differently behaving substances.
Ron introduces Laura to a Buckminsterfullerene and a carbon nanotube. There’s no way she knows why, because as you’ll hear - he isn’t totally sure why.
