So get ready to either call in with your question for Jerry, or a song request for Todd, on the CarPro Show. Yeah, here we go. Our number two of the CarPro Show. We are in downtown Dallas, broadcasted nationwide from the retailmyride.com studios. Right next to the American Airlines arena, we are attached to it. That's where the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars hockey team plays. So we would love to talk to you, and here is that phone number, 800-926-7777-8926-7777. Love to have you welcome Los Angeles, K&X listeners, or tickle the death to have you guys with us here for this hour. And again, one more time, that phone number, 800-926-7777-CarPro.com.
That's the website. That's where you'll find all my car reviews. We had to go up this week, the Audi A5, which is a beautiful car, and then I had the Alfa Romeo Tanali. You did like that one, actually. I did like that Tanali, and they've made some nice changes to that, and I could tell you. There's some smoke and lease deals on that thing right now. I can't really come to find out. Yeah, I didn't know that when I had it, but afterwards I was talking to the Stellantis media person. She's going to she's going to lease one herself. That'll be darn it. Because the deal's so good. Yeah, that's great. The Ali Sport Special. It's a special. Don't forget the special. Yeah, put them on there. In a free weekly newsletter that came out yesterday, and you can get it by subscribing today at carpro.com at the bottom of the page. We had our videos of the week. Why are you laughing, Todd? Well, because you certainly like to go and see where my video ends up every single week,
and you only look at the top five. Unfortunately, my video didn't clear the top five this week. Oh, no kidding. I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know if you're that sorry, though. I don't know about that. I might be a little bit sorry. Your video was, well, it was pretty funny. Let's hope it doesn't happen anywhere. Yes, because that would be horrible. But it's a brand of humor that really not as acceptable anymore. A little bit woke. I mean, just just a tad, but it's from a comedy show that I've seen that before and was reminded of it. It's really funny. I won't give it away. You need to go and check it out, but it's well worth your few minutes to go and see it. Yeah, if you take it with a grain of salt, you'll enjoy it. Absolutely. It's just pure raw humor. Just to set it up, a very large lady goes into a car dealership to purchase a very small car. Right. That's a bad combination.
Hilarity ensues, as they say. Yes, there's no question about that. An appropriate sales guy. A bit. Yes. 800 926 77 77. We're here. It's the end of the month. It's the end of the quarter. It's the end of truck month. There are some great incentives out there. And as you'll learn from next week's free weekly newsletter, I give you an update on what's going on with the use car market. Oh, okay. And it is still sky high. So if you've got to trade in, I'm going to tell you it right now is the time. I know I get tired of saying it too. But the use car market cannot stay as high as it is right now. It makes no sense. And the prices are going to come down if they just, if they've gone up all year long this year so far. And I know it's only been, we're only three months into it almost. But they keep going up higher and higher and higher. If you tried to trade even in December and you owed too much on your car,
I encourage you to try again with one of our dealers because the market is, it just keeps going up. Let's go to the phones and talk to Vee. And she is calling from spring Texas in Houston, Texas area. Vee, welcome to the car brochure. Hi, Jerry. Hi there. You're having me. Oh, it's a pleasure. What can I help you with? Yeah, I am in the market now to get a car. And I've always driven a Toyota before. It's been quite a few years now, so it's slowly giving out on me. And I'm trying, conflicted a little bit between either just getting another Toyota RAV4 or I am also hearing about the Hyundai Palisade, some confused. I don't want ultra luxury, but I do want good comfort and safety for the family. Well, we know how good the RAV4 is and we know that it's typically a quarter million mile vehicle without any major problems.
When you start getting into the Palisade and stuff, now we're into three row SUVs. Is that something that you would use? Maybe not all the time. I mean, we don't have a big family. We're a small family of three. So again, I'm hearing good things about it, but I'm more partial to the RAV4 myself. Yeah, and there's a tremendous price difference. I mean, we're talking about $20,000 roughly between the RAV4 and a Palisade. Now, there are some stops in between the size of the RAV4 and the Palisade. Palisade is the biggest Hyundai that they make. You could back off a little bit. You could look at the Santa Fe, which is smaller than the Palisade. And it does have a third row seat, albeit not as Remia third row seat, as the Palisade has.
And when you start talking about Hyundai's, you really got to consider Kia as well, because they're very similar in so many ways. They look different, but underneath, they're very close to being the same thing. So the Kia Sportage is a good choice. If you don't want to go all the way to the third row, but you want to Remia or two row, then the Kia Sportage may be something to look at. And it comes in a hybrid as well as the RAV4. I don't know if you're looking at hybrid or not, it doesn't matter. But if you are, certainly you're going to get better fuel economy. But there's just so many good choices. But still, at the end of the day, what's going to last you the longest? And it sounds like you keep a vehicle for a very long time. And if that's the case, you probably should go back to a RAV4. RAV4. You know what I was thinking about? What about the Highlanders? That's too big?
It's big. There's no question. It's big. You might, when you're looking at Toyota's, you might look at a crown Signia. It's a different kind of SUV. It's a two row with a lot of cargo in the rear. And it's more like a car than it is an SUV. So go down to Conroe and go to Fred has Toyota World and talk to them. They treat my listeners great and see what they can show you. I think you'll be replaced. The car pro Jerry Reynolds knows things you just can't know. So call it on the chase.com car pro listener line 1-800-926-7777 And it's the car pro show Jerry Reynolds. The car pro me Todd Chambles.
Newsletter this week, one of the most clicked items is the advice column where Jerry talks about a prepaid or one paid auto lease. And I guess this was brought to my attention a few months ago when we had a caller ask you'll have this. You probably had this a million times people ask it. I'm going to find a good use car for $10,000 for my daughter, for my son going to college. Well, yeah, go back in time. Maybe you can find one. But these days with especially electric cars and with incentives and different things going on, you can get a $10,000 car if you do a prepaid lease and you do it the right way. That's right. And you get all the benefits of a lease. But you've got a brand new car with warranty for the next three years. And it just makes really good sense. Yeah, if you've got them, if you're going to pay $10,000 for a used car anyway, why not go this route? Know that they're in a brand new car. It's covered if there's any mechanical issues for the most part and just change the oil and
take care of the car. Yeah, there you go. I got her to. It's real simple. And let's talk to Paul in dripping Springs, Texas. Paul, what's going on, my friend? Hey, Jerry, thanks for taking my call. I had a quick question. My wife passed away about eight months ago. Oh, I'm so sorry. Well, thank you. Thank you. And one of my dilemmas is her car is perfect. It's a three-year-old four-runner with only 14,000 miles on it. Oh, goodness. In the garage. It's never, it's never even been to a car wash. I've always, it's perfect. But I don't know whether, and it's paid for. So I don't know whether to just keep it. I drive a truck, so just to keep it as a second car that I never drive. I mean, or should I sell it, trade it, I'm not sure what to do. It's nice to have a second car, but it's a really nice car to have for a second car, if you know what I mean. I do. I'm worried the value of it's going to decline versus what it's worth to somebody,
if that makes sense. Yeah, and it will, even with the low miles like that. Do you have, let me think, I've got to put this best. Do you have an emotional attachment to it? A little bit, but it's almost, it's almost a double day sort. It's like when I drive it, it kind of bumps me out. So it's kind of, so it's kind of like, I need to drive it. So I do drive it, and then when I do drive it, it's kind of a challenge. And so, so it's, it's that, but my children don't have an emotional attachment to it. So that makes it a little bit easier to, I think, transact business. Yeah, Paul, I think I'd sell it. And I think the way to sell it is, if you go to my website, carpro.com, at the top of the page, you'll see sell a car. And it's going to give you two choices. You don't seem to be in a rush to sell it.
Correct. So I would put it on consignment with retail, my ride. I know the founder of that company extremely well. He's helped hundreds of my listeners through the years. If you need quick cash, that's not the way to go. If you can wait, sometimes two to four weeks for it to bring top dollar and get you the most possible money, that's the way to go. And they're very, very good at what they do. They know where to market any kind of car. And that's the key to the whole deal. I mean, there's a gazillion places that they could list it online, but they've been doing this long enough. They know exactly where to go with a certain kind of car. That's a very valuable piece of merchandise. Now, the new one is out. And that has hurt the value slightly. But there are still people, and where we get, where we get into it with these, especially with toyotas,
is people who have had the sick sonar like you have for so many years. Now, all of a sudden, it's a forced sonar turbo, right? And they're, they're leery of it. They're looking for that low mileage, sick sonar toyota. And a lot of people don't love the new body style as much as the old body. That's exactly right. That's exactly right. And so if, if retail my ride takes it, markets it, they're going to know immediately that they can ask top dollar for this. And it's going to sell. And that's going to put the most money in your pocket. I am incredibly sorry for your loss. I can imagine, no, I really can't. I'm not going to lie. Brother, you sound, I appreciate it. I really do. You sound great. You sound like, I know it's been eight months, but you sound great. And you just hang in there. And let's get that gone. Put the money somewhere.
Send on it for a while. Then if you want that second car, you know what? I'd get something fun. I would. I think, I think, and I don't know your, your life, but I think she would want you to probably do that. Get it convertible. If you bought a car, you thought you'd live. But now you want to push it off a cliff. Get some advice from the CarPro Jerry Reynolds. On the chase.com CarPro listener line 1-800-926-7777. Next up on the CarPro Show is Paul. And can you, I'm sorry, Tribigo Canyon, California. Paul, welcome. Thanks for calling. Oh, thanks, Jerry. I just have a quick one. I just want to let you know. Yeah, I took, took the advantage of going to Mission Vahoe Kia
about the new Telluride E-X. Fantastic car. I'm not exaggerating the E-X version has everything I needed on it. The guy's there and I don't compliment finance managers very often. Or never. Nobody does. Boy, the finance manager. Guy was fantastic. Boy, he's been in the business for a long time. He was new to Kia Mission Vahoe. But fantastic guy. My wife and I were with him for 30 minutes. And I'm not kidding. He was the nicest guy in the world. And the service there was fantastic. I just want to let your viewership know that they sell cars at list price. They don't add anything to it. That's right. Just a fantastic dealership. Hound, we respect everybody there. And the sales, I call them sales guys. They're not even sales guys. They're more like advisors. They're not pushing you to do anything. Just a great experience. And I just wanted to share that. Oh, thank you.
I hear them advertise on the radio. But just a fantastic group of guys. If you knew, if you knew John Patterson, the owner, he's got that store. He's got a new Kia store. He's got Hyundai and he's got two Mazda dealerships. And you can walk in any one of his dealerships and they're all the same. It's a culture. It's a culture of people wanting to help others. It's hard to get that message across in a 30-second ad. I don't mind telling you. But when I hear people like you that call and send me an email and say, wow, I went to, you know, one of John Patterson's stores and it was just a great experience. You know, I know. Oh, fantastic. He's, he, and he's that kind of person. Him personally. I mean, the guy is just unbelievable. If every dealership in the country had a John Patterson, the car business would, they couldn't build enough cars.
I mean, that's the truth. I appreciate you letting me know. More than, you know, congratulations on that tell you right. Wow, great vehicle. You can't get good advice from someone who doesn't really have a lot of experience. That's why you need to call the car pro Jerry Reynolds before you get your next vehicle. And welcome back to the car pro show. It's the show with Jerry Reynolds, is where he's the car pro. And I'm the roadmaster, or the co-host, or the other guy, Todd, whatever you want to call me. I was your co-host earlier. We had a friend of mine, textin, to respond to something you said, and they said, tell your co-host there. And I'm like, well, it doesn't work that way. I'm sure it was about the song, wasn't it? It was about, no, your transparency
about dealerships and how that story would show. You know what, we're talking about that right now. Let's talk about that. Okay. Well, we're talking to a caller, and they were trying to figure out their situation, and they had gone to a dealership where they weren't treated right. They didn't go to one of yours. And you kind of later, you peel back the curtain, and you kind of showed everybody what maybe some car dealers don't want everybody to know. There's a way, because I think the person was going to pay cash, and you said, you know, financing, car dealers, actually, they make a little money on the financing. They don't make it from a cash transaction. That's right. His question was, after we got through a bunch of other stuff, was, can I save anybody paying cash? No, you can't. They don't care how you pay for a car. Because he was plunking a lot of money down on, at least yet, I think. Yeah, and that was another mistake. It was about to make some classic mistakes. He was at a bad dealership. The dealership told him, oh, you don't want to lease a toyota, you want to buy it. Well, you know what?
If you're going to lease something, and you're not a high-mileage driver, there's nothing that leases better than a toyota or a Lexus. Oh, sure. So these people were just lying to him all the way around. So his question was, do you kind of save some money for a pay cash? No, you can't. Dealers don't care. You were not impressed with your cash. They, they, they in a total long story about how when I own dealerships, if we were on a really close deal, we were at that point in the deal where the customer's about to leave without buying a car, I wanted to know some things. Are they going to finance with us? Because if they're going to finance with us, we're going to make money on financing and maybe they'll buy an extended warranty. Where do they live? Are they neighbors of ours? If they live in our neighborhood, they need to buy their car from me. So they can service the car when it needs it? Yeah. And they can tell all the friends. Exactly. And so we, we got into those kind of things. It was an interesting call. And there, there's some people who are like, I'm probably not that many,
but if you say, well, a dealership, there's making money off of you. Well, they're a business, they have to make money. I mean, that's the way businesses run, but you want everybody to walk away from the deal happy, where the, you got a good, you got a good deal in your car, the dealerships making some money, and there's no anxiety in the situation. Profit is not a dirty word. You want them, you want anybody you do business with, you want them to make a profit, because you want them to be there in case there's a problem. You don't want a dealer to make money, but you want that long car, don't you? Yes. That's, that's the kind of things you got to think about. That's right. You don't want to make it, you know, I said in the earlier show, you don't want to buy a car from a guy. Come back the next week and he's got a brand new shiny, Rolex, on his, on his, building a pool out back in his house. Yeah. Oh, he's not here today. He's on a two week cruise. Thanks to you. Yes. No, you don't want that. You just want a fair deal. That's right. And let's go to the phones, and we'll talk to Don and Sugar Land, Texas in the Houston area.
Don. Hey, Jerry. Hey, buddy, what's happening? I got a print. This guy, the 2024 RDX. Yeah. And, you know, things got so much bells and whistles and don't even use the stuff anyway. But anyway, she loved it, bought it. I told her she had gotten that excited. Things got only 9,000 on it. I was saying you should have got a hybrid. But if you wanted to trade it in, does it make any sense now to trade the thing in the gas? Of course, you know, when lights were on premium, and that's just a killer even before the war started. But what would you suggest? And would it make sense to trade the car in? She only drives like probably 10 miles a day. It never really takes any road trips. Probably would be the last car. She's in her 70s, so it would probably be the last car she has. What do you think makes sense? Trading it doesn't make any sense.
She doesn't drive enough. That even if she picked up 10 miles per gallon. Which is substantial. Even with the price of gas today, the her savings would be 20, maybe 25 bucks a month, and she's never going to drive enough to pay that back. And then taking a loss on the car that she's got. I can't make, I can't make the case for her trading at all. I think she ought to settle in and keep what she's got, be happy with it at 10 miles a day. She's only filling up once a month. And I know gas is on everybody's mind. And I almost wrote an article for next week's newsletters about not panic trading. But I wanted to wait another week when this war is over and it looks like it's winding down or about to.
I think gas prices will plummet and we'll be back in Texas at least to the 250, 275 a gallon area real quick, real quick. I was trying to tell her too. I think you've heard you mentioned. She only wants to run the premium. But I've heard you say, but the dealers encourage you to run the premium just because you get better mileage and I don't know if it makes the engine. No, it does not and it's not the dealers. The dealers don't care what octane you put in a car. It's the manufacturers. They test them with premium because they will get, you know, as much as 10% better fuel economy. But when you look at the difference in cost, that car will run great on regular. She does not need at all to run premium. And if you will go to carpro.com, Don, and find the FAQ page.
It's under, it's under a car buying resources at the top. You'll see a fuel section and you'll see the article that I've written. That so many people have read. It's titled, do I really need premium fuel? And the answer is no, not. There are some exceptions. High horsepower engines, for instance, do not perform as well on regular as they do premium. I've got one. I've got a Mercedes. It's got 623 horses. I tried it. And it just, it's got a hesitation when, but that's, that's a rare exception. If it's just a normal four or six cylinder engine, even a smaller V8, it's, it's going to run great on regular. The car will adjust itself. And she could save a ton of money using regular. So get that, get that article for and let her read it. How many miles do you think on that RDX,
where do you have any issues? Oh, it's a Honda. I mean, 200,000, 150 minimum, but 200 on the powertrain. I mean, at 150, she could have, you know, power went to motor go out. She could have an air compressor go out. I mean, you're going to have problems with any cars as it ages. And there's the miles trip up into six digits. But from the powertrain standpoint, she, if she's in her 70s driving 10 miles a day, she ain't going to live long enough to have a problem. Okay. Okay. All right, thanks here. Hey, man, good to talk to you. Call me anytime. 896, 7777. Don't open the line. I've got one. If you dial fast, you can grab it. 896, 7777. That FAQ page is magic. In the new section of this week's newsletter, it's the Quick Chefs is the automotive auto industry stories, with Jerry's commentary there. A lot of good stories this week. It was hard for me to pick one to mention or talk about. But I'm going to go with the one about the license plate in Florida. I love that story about a woman she was pulled over in a traffic stop and then the problem is there is a license plate law in Florida that took effect last October, where if the frame, the plate frame, if it covers any of the actual license plate where and it's a vague law, and that's the problem. Yeah, it's a Texas thing. If you cover anything like in the sunshine,
say the cover, I think the S of that, and because of that, she got a ticket. It's better night in jail. This became like a fight and a lot of people got involved in this. It's an interesting story to read. But for now, that particular law still on the books and still in effect. Well, yeah, and I was in the car business still when that law went into effect, and my license plate frames that we put on every new car had it covered just a less than a quarter of an inch of the bottom of the letters and numbers. So with that law, then they would be liable for that. I had to trash hundreds of them. And they weren't cheap. They were about at that time. A dollar or something, a piece. Yeah. And I'm trashing. I mean, that was at a good time in the car business when I was stocking 3,000 new fords at all times. You probably had hundreds and maybe thousands of them. Oh, I have thousands of them, yeah. And a bunch of them running around on the streets.
Let's go to Tom and also in Sugar Land. Tom, welcome. How could I help you? Hey, Jerry, thanks for taking my call. Hey, it's a question. It's a question. I'm looking to tell a Toyota, the electric, the BZ, the newer, bigger battery, what do you think? We've reviewed it. It's great. I love electrics. This is Toyota's first attempt at an electric. So we don't have any long term history on it. But with that said, it's a Toyota. They waited a long time to come out with one and knowing the way Toyota does business. They made sure it was perfected before they brought it out. Everybody that I've helped get one loves it.
My Toyota dealer in Dallas this morning had a special one. It was a lease with just taxes down plus the first payment. And it was $3.79 a month. I mean, that's just dark cheap. And you got to remember, too, Tom, that electric cars are simpler than internal combustion engine cars. I mean, there's less things to go wrong. The biggest worry with an electric car is range. And battery life. And it seems to be really good with this car. I'm hesitant with a lot of car companies to recommend a brand new car. It just came out. I bought some myself and I've had good experiences with it. And I don't think people need to be scared necessarily of a brand new car. But when it comes to Toyota and Lexus, I have zero fear.
I think they have the old one, the BC 4X. Yeah, they have, you know, not enough battery power on it. Yeah, it went, you know, good. Well, and it's, but it was virtually the same car. It's because people like me on the radio made fun of the name because nobody could remember it. So they shortened the name and linked it to the battery range. And now they got a car that's selling. I thought they'd drop it. I really did. I thought they'd just get rid of it. But they didn't, they did what Toyota does. They made it better and they fixed the problem, which was the name. And now they got a good selling electric. And when I say good selling, I mean, by comparison to other electric's out there. So you'd be fine. And I got some great Toyota dealers near you at my website. Call the Chains.com car pro listener line at 1-800-926-7777.
As the happy listener time of the show, it's the moment where we get to share a great story from somebody who used Jerry's resources and followed his advice and look what happened. James is one of those who went to find StarFord in Louisville. The Dallas Fort Worth area looking for an expedition. King Ranchy went big time from his start. He said the experience of 5 StarFord. Louisville was great met with car pro rep Kenneth Burke. Kenneth had me in an expedition or had me an expedition ready to test drive as we discussed today before on the phone. No waiting. The car was clean ready to go. Sometimes dealers, this is, he's worse not mine. Sometimes dealers get lacks. The cars are not clean. Not here. Kenneth had it all set up. Once completed, purchase the vehicle without hesitation. That typically sells itself when you get to go and you get treated well and you're in the vehicle that you want to go. And they get your setup like that. Kenneth made me feel good about the deal. And finance, Henry there working to get things set up did so very well.
