Can You Be Unoffendable? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast
About this episode
Can you learn to become unoffendable? I’m not even sure that’s a word, so just go with me here.
Sometimes our feelings are very close to the surface and it’s easy feel offended or hurt. It’s good to be in touch with your feelings, and sometimes not so good to be driven by them.
Become unoffendable. When someone says something that is hurtful, take a breath before you reply, and in that pause, find a light response. If they said, “wow, that top makes you look fat,” your reply might be, “and way more fun, too, right?” Whatever you say, smile and mean it, and then change the subject.
If they circle back to their statement, change the subject. If they get frustrated and repeat it again, maybe you could say – while still smiling and meaning it – “you’d be a lot more fun if you had a top like this, too!”
Then seriously change the subject. And if they’re still trying to get your goat, time to put that relationship on ice. “Gotta go…I’m on the hunt for fun!” And then go. Still smiling and meaning it.
The best revenge is no revenge – just own your own feelings and feel the ones you want to feel.
