Guys, we're going to talk a little bit about the receiving room at the University of Texas.

1:00We've already talked about the running back room and some other positions, but the receiver room with the addition of Cam Coleman and the absence, by the way, of Ryan Wingo and Emmett Mosley, one of the more intriguing spots on the roster of this spring. Jeff and Jerry, you guys and I have both been out at practice. There's no denying Cam Coleman is a presence at receiver. You see him make catches with his body contorted, just in regular on-air routes and how easily and smoothly he runs, six, three, buck 95, he's not a small guy, his catch radius is phenomenal. What does he, he is a true one number one receiver, in my opinion. You can make an argument whether or not Ryan Wingo would have been that person in the absence of Cam Coleman, but Coleman is that guy that looks like he has super reliable hands, can contort his body.

2:01He is kind of as we would define him in this day and age, a number one wide receiver, Jerry. Yeah, and I've been thinking about how I was going to say this, but I already said it once on a show. I think he is the most gifted, natural, at wide receiver, that Texas since Roy Williams. And people are going to be like, wait, 80 Mitchell, Xavier Worthy, Matthew Golden, I'm just saying at his size, with that wingspan and that 50-50 ability, that I think is how gifted he is. He was really blessed with some real talent here. Just like that, make it look very easy all the time. And just in them open practice, I was at what I'd seen watching Auburn, it's very easy for him. And I just, that's what I think he is. And by the way, I don't think he's as good as Roy Williams. I want to say that Roy Williams after the catch was phenomenal for his height and size. I'm not sure, I don't think Cam Coleman's that, but I'm just saying in terms of gifts

3:03that you were born with, I think he's the most talented that's come through Texas since Roy Williams. Jerry, I would agree with that. I thought Ryan Wingo was in some ways just in terms of the physical gifts, but Cam Coleman, I think Bobby in hindsight, one of the worst evaluation misses that this program made way back when was, kind of that linear is going from Roy Williams to Lyme of Sweet, Mac Brown and Bobby Kennedy kept trying through a bunch of guys to find that 6, 300, 200 pound do it all receive and whether it was Monterey Weber or Greg Timmans or Darius White or Caleb Jones, they never found that guy. This is the guy they were hoping to find, like that guy that's, he's big enough to go body guys. He's got the catch rate he is, but Jerry, to your point, like you can tell, he's, I'm not going to say he's dogging it because that's not it, but he makes it look so easy that when he does decide, all right, I need to go throw it in another gear to go get this ball. That's the kind of stuff they're like, I don't want to make it over dramatizing it,

4:06but it does take your breath away when you're like, oh, a guy with that kind of frame that can go track a ball and throw it in another gear that guys at his size probably shouldn't have. Yeah. Guys, I look at it and we've seen it now for two consecutive practices. We've heard about it from behind the scenes, I mean, it's not just that he's a wide receiver one because of his abilities. I'm telling you, the things we hear behind the scenes are, they're not as impressive as his body of work because there've been a lot of guys that are good behind the scenes, but the fact that he works the way we're being told he works and that he is willing to be a helpful guy to other receivers and a kind of an example for them, all very impressive to me for sure, but he is just one piece of this receiving room. The other guys that two of them that we haven't even talked about and we haven't seen

5:09much of the spring ball is Ryan Wingo and him and mostly. Now you put those three guys together, Jerry and Jeff, and I immediately start thinking those are three big receivers, like there's not going to be a team that has three receivers on the field at the same time as big as the long ones, Coleman 6-3, Ryan Wingo, a true 6-2, Emmett Mosley 6-1 and a half, 6-2, big guys, long limbs, Wingo and Mosley add a piece here. Now, Wingo we think we'll be back not this week, but next week after they get back from spring break, but he's already playing a little bit, Mosley is still sitting out almost entirely and so what's interesting to me is as you think about it like we do from this broad perspective in trying to take in the whole program, you automatically think those two guys are going to make Texas this big wide receiver room, but here's what happened

6:11on the way to dinner, so to speak, the young man named Germain Bishop, who when we say there's hype and then there's just a claim. Right now he's getting a lot of a claim, it's not hype. Yeah, people behind the scenes are talking about him like he is a special, special player had two thousand yards receiving last year. How do we even see Texas moving him and getting him the ball enough to make an impact if you got Wingo, Mosley and Cam Coleman out there, but I'd be told that they're going to find a way that they feel like they have to find a way and we're only two days into spring practice. I mean, it's almost ridiculous. Yeah, I mean, look, I think that is the toughest task for Steve Sarkeesian in 2026 is one football and what you took out of the portal recruited out of the portal added to what

7:15you still have on this roster and then what you brought him from high school ranks, that is Germain Bishop's instant ascension since arriving at Texas presents an issue in some ways, Bobby, like you said, because there's one football and everybody, everybody looks around says, it should go to me. And now Germain Bishop said, oh, I'm going to do this or not. Now it should go to me. So I think that's going to be so interesting how Sarke manages his big room of guys who want the football. But he doesn't have a position. It does have an offensive room that wants the football tight ends. So I think it's going to be fascinating, Bobby. I think you're going to see where I think you see Germain Bishop get the football. Everybody just, we just kind of had Ryan Nibblet, penciled in as a gadget guy. That's going to be tougher to be the gadget guy if Germain Bishop's there. And I'd say what I've been told really brown, good at running back to, he might take some

8:17of those boutique running back position snaps away from him. Hey, Jeff, what what a Germain Bishop brings that is different from Ryan Wingo, Emmett Mosley or Cam Coleman. I think what makes him different than Xavier Worthy included just about every receiver Sarke has had is he's got another gear when tracking the ball, you know, because Xavier Worthy has world class top in speed. And we've seen guys where those 80 minutes of their Matthew Golden have, you know, Matthew goes give two guys ran fast to the combine, but Germain Bishop, he, he, it's hard to find a comp for him, but he almost reminds you of like some of those, oh, you slot receivers like a Hollywood brown type guy where there's just another gear he's got, but he can get the top speed while still tracking the ball. And then he can go play it like you just, you don't find that in I would, you know, and this is the kind of stuff by me that we learn by going to watch practice and by being on site. And when Sarke talks about how he and Chris Jackson teach the receiver position, they're

9:21not just talking to hear themselves talk like they do teach it conceptually like when you know, Sarke runs routes on air and you can hear and tell guys, hey, I don't care if you play slot, everybody's a slot on this play and you learn the entire route treat and all the position. So it's going to allow you to mix and match with different guys. But you know, Jerry, what we were talking about, we were talking about this before we started recording, you know, you add Germain Bishop into this mix, Sarke's wide receiver rotation. It has been really tight, even in some years where, okay, do you expand it a little bit? No, he keeps that thing tight. So if Germain Bishop started again, your top, your top group with Mosley and Wingo and Coleman, you may have everybody else on the roster. Maybe you're fighting for one spot and that one spot may be scraps anyway. So it is a, it's a highly competitive room, Bobby, but while Mosley and Wingo are out, it's a heck of an opportunity for Germain Bishop right now to really show the coaches why he should be in that rotation. And by the way, I want to say this, Germain Bishop walks into an incredible situation.

10:22There's Cam Coleman's going to command safety help. Ryan Wingo will be on the other side. And people know how talented he is. So Germain Bishop walks into favorable match-up land. That's a pretty good place to be. Yeah, I mean, he really does and we'll see how they use him. I think that the speed factor is fundamentally different for him than the other guys. Even though Ryan Wingo is a 10-500 meter guy, that's the, I know that sounds kind of crazy to talk about, but Germain Bishop's got some, he's just got a little, got some juice, man. He's got some juice. Now, Jeff, you made it a point to talk about how you see that group maybe separating a little bit. Those four. And so the rest of the guys fighting for that other spot, I'll tell you my thought right now. Last year, a year ago, this time, there was no question, Dale and McCutchen was ahead

11:24of Mike Atari, Collique Lockett, and Jamie French. As we head into this year, you thought maybe Dale and McCutchen still ahead of Collique Lockett. First couple days of practice, I don't know that they've necessarily separated themselves, but I would put Collique Lockett next in that group as an outside receiver right now. And the reason why is I think he's practicing extremely hard. I think he's learning a little something from Cam Coleman and how he approaches catching the ball in the air and kind of plucking it because Collique Lockett has insane catch radius, great hands. And so how he does that and is able to do that, it could be influenced. And I just like the way he's practicing overall the kind of passion he's going to add it with. Did you gain, how much confidence did he gain from one catch against Michigan? How much confidence did he gain from that? And then he was a young senior, Leven Sachsley High. He's now gained 15, 16, 17 pounds.

12:27He is more confident because he's stronger. And I mean, look, he is definitely when he came out of high school, his ranking was based on his down the road potential. And I think you're starting to see some of that show up and to where he can go. I think the biggest thing now, Jeff, for him is, you know, look, they're serious, they're serious twitch at the receiver position at Texas. And so you're competing against high end twitch. What are you going to do to get some of those reps? I think that is going to be the big thing for him. It's a hard, it's a hard, a roster to break through Jeff. Yeah, and I think with Collique, the one thing you do notice, and I like this because we talked about this with some of these guys, fair or not, for a lot of these guys, it's now or never, just because of the nature of the portal they, and honestly between Sark and Brandon Harris and the player of personnel office, those are decisions you've got to make now. Starting December, we need to go, you know, we need to target X number receivers or whatever it is. So you get to decide in the next couple of weeks what Collique lock it is going to be for you long term. And I don't know if he senses that Bobby, but you definitely get the feeling that he's

14:31taking a practice field with a sense of urgency, which a guy in his position definitely needed to. So I like his mindset coming in the spring. I really like to your, I really like his mindset. Yeah, I think he's got the right thing. He's doing a lot of the small things that will make him a better, more productive player. But call the pawn, because I do think that if one of the bigger guys goes down, that's the thing. Lock it gets the first call, you know, the, let's talk real briefly about two other guys. Chris Stewart and Cohen Brown, the two freshmen, I think it's, it's good to be talking about them. Cohen Brown, guys, the first day we all look at him and go, wow, he's really put together almost like a running back type build at the receiver position has big time speed. He did have a couple of drops that first day, Jeff, what did you think of Cohen Brown and what did you make of him physically off the charts? I mean, everything that we thought he would be and we've had him on the channel, had him on a live stream, just really like his attitude, his work ethic. Again, one of the guys that we heard a ton about during winter conditioning, just in

15:34terms of how he attacked it, the gains he's made. I think the good thing for him, Bobby is, you know, he doesn't have to come in and think, okay, I've got to be this or that or take on a role because of the nature of that room, you can really find yourself. So I think that might take some of the pressure out the way, hey, if you do have a bad practice, it's not like you're going to go from running with the ones to running with the three, you're pretty much going to be the same spot you're in. So just absorb what you can, learn and keep going. But no, physically, he does not look out of place at all, even for a freshman. Yeah, I think what's going to be interesting with him is if, if I'm Cohen Brown, I'm, people say, well, you know, or do what DeAndre more to do it, Jordan, I'm going to go a different direction. Do it. Trey Weissner did. There'll be a stud on special teams, prove your worth to the football team, develop it wide receiver and just have patients. Patients is required by young receivers at Texas right now. If you attack it, if you attack it with patients, it will pay off for you down the line.

16:40If you prove to impact winning in special teams, pushing guys in the weight room, whatever it is, you have a chance to make an impact, even if you don't catch a football this year. And that, you know what, who that endears yourself to? Steve Sarkeesha. Look at Ryan Neville. Yeah. Chris Jackson. Yep. No, the guy that will be, would be impressed with that. I like that take because look, we, we talk about freshman and how it's developmental process and then you have some guy that breaks the bell curve. He makes the curve bend towards him and germane vision, right? And so it's, but, but different people have different paths. And I agree with Jerry about the path for a Cohen Brown. It is in my opinion to go out there and contribute in some way, use that size, use that speed, use the physicality you have and what seems like a good motor. If that makes sense, like a never say you have motor, use that to go make yourself valuable.

17:45And then find a way to get on the field. Jeff, what about Chris Stewart, young man out of parallel, I think he looks pretty smooth catching the ball, just a smaller guy, but a lot of speed. Yeah. A little more wiring frame than Cohen Brown, going to take some time to develop a little bit. I like the little bit that we saw, you know, we get kind of chunks and splashes of everybody. But again, I just say, you know, looks the part just in terms of not looking out of place. That's the one, whenever the freshman get to campus, Bobby, the one thing I like doing it, if we get to go out to practice, okay, because there have been times that Texas where you look at the, some of the freshman, we're like, okay, I don't know if they would have recruited that guy over again or, and I don't know what his future is, not the case to me with any of these guys, Chris Stewart included. This is a good looking freshman class. Yeah, it is a good looking freshman class. Jerry, what did you think of Chris Stewart speed? Yeah, I think I've seen him in high school. The number one trait he had for me was he naturally ran through the football.

18:46Some guys have to be coached to do that, but that guy runs through the football. Yeah. He can sore down to your point. Yeah. No, he does not slow down when he catches the ball. He completes the route. He completes the catch. He completes the play. that's a good starting place for him. Now he's like any other young guy that's not one of the total freaks like a cam colman or somebody like that. It's all about getting stronger, the nuances of the position. And again, I'm going to harp on patience because I do think guys like Cohen Brown and Chris Stewart have talent. And they have their legitimate recruits at University of Texas, not guys that Texas would throw back. But it's going to require patience. And if you're not the most physically gifted guy, whether that be hype or maybe you're not as explosive as your main bishop, what does it come down to? Are you going to maximize yourself at this position? That's how you ultimately get on the field is you work through the hard, the toughness of patience and you go really dial into your craft because as much as we talk about

19:48speed and athleticism, guys who just dial it up and maximize their craft still have a chance to be really good football players. And I think that's the biggest task in front of him in Cohen Brown. Patience, perfector craft, the best of your ability. All right, Jerry, I'm going to try to sum this up a little bit for everybody and how I'm feeling. Number one is we knew with Wingo and Moesley being out, it might give some guys more chances. So we've liked what we've seen of colleague Lockett. We liked what we've seen of Germain Bishop. We certainly loved what we've seen of Kim Cole. He is as advertised. He's big. He's long. He catches everything away from his body. All the things. Okay, I think that if you were to label a surprise right now, it's the fact that Germain Bishop may be further along than what any of us anticipate. I mean, we thought, hey, yes, he had a great great career, 2000 yards receiving

20:51athletically gifted, but he's his size. I mean, he doesn't look real big. I mean, all those little knocks that you hear that frankly took him down from being a five star prospect, right? As a recruit. He was started out as a five star. They kept getting whittled away at because he knew he was productive. They didn't see that perfect. Well, he's outperformed that. Like he's definitely gone. And to to my point, it's no long. It's not just hype. I mean, it is a claim inside the locker room. And with coach and with former Dallas. He's got a way to go, but it's legit. But he's a pleasant surprise. And I think Coleman, the surprise with Coleman, the pleasant part of it is how well he's worked. I mean, we were told in winter, he was the hardest working wide out during winter workouts. So add him to a Ryan Wingo. I don't know, maybe him

21:51it mostly could be possible odd man out at some level here, too. Because Bishop is that, Bishop pushes that slot guy. I mean, who knows? All right. You guys have anything y'all want to finish with before we let folks go today? I'll just finish up the Germain Bishop discussion from as far as my perspective. You know, we got it was asked in our practice report thread over on the message board. Hey, do you think Bishop will have the kind of freshman year Xavier Worthy did? And I said, no. And that's not a knock on Germain Bishop at all. The wide receiver room at Texas right now compared to then is much healthier. If you're if you're a freshman breaking through and playing significant snaps and having a significant impact, it's not because there's nobody else. It's because you're just that good. Fair. And I would say there's some similarities for me to Germain Bishop. And I don't say this lightly, uh, Senator Benson. And here's,

22:53I say that, Bobby. Oh, wow. Because of productivity at a high list. Yes. I think, you know, I think there's some similarities there. And at some point, no matter what nicks or no matter what warts people want to find with somebody, at some point, as a 165, 150, 60 pound player, he was as productive as anybody in high school. And it kind of goes back to snowman ever. You can't emphasize football. And so it kind of goes back to Senator Benson, Senator Benson. Well, does he have breakaway speed? Well, can he make people miss? But when I looked at Senator, when you look at Senator Benson and you look back now too, you're like, all that guy did was produce. There's something to just be in a productive football player. Quandray digs was that way. Wherever you put him, he just produces. Whatever he does, he's going to produce. I see some similarities there. Yeah, I think that's a great analogy,

23:53because to your point, a lot of people thought there were too many warts on Cedric Benson, you know, he wasn't perfect. Yeah, all he did was produce. That's, that may be, well, what, what germane bishops have been. All right. That's going to do it for this wide receiver breakdown through two practices here at the University of Texas in the spring. I would, I'll finish with this because Jeff talked about it and Jerry may mention of it too. How much more improved this, this group is. It's important to remember that Steve Sarkeesian two, just two or three days ago said it's by far his best group top to bottom. Yeah, that gives you a sense of what Jeff was talking about there.
