Calgary Flames Sign Local College Star Tyson Gross

About this episode

The Calgary Flames continue their tradition of signing top NCAA talent, adding local center Tyson Gross as an undrafted free agent. Under GM Craig Conroy, the team has secured three notable college free agents recently, with Sam Morton, Owen Say, and Carter King still with the organization. Going back to Brad Trelivings time, the Flames have signed seven college standouts, with Garnet Hathaway and Walker Duehr making significant impacts. While most signings have remained in the AHL or lower levels, the Flames maintain a steady flow of fresh talent into their system.

It's March 16th for the Calgary Flames. Let's get into it. The Calgary Flames just signed college center Tyson Gross, a local kid from Calgary as an undrafted free agent. This move keeps up their long tradition of chasing top NCAA talent after the season ends. Under current general manager Craig Conroy, the team has grabbed three notable college free agents recently. That includes Center, Sam Morton, and March of 2024. Golly Owen Say, and March of 2025, and Center Carter King in April of 2025. All three are still with the organization, and Morton has even played four NHL games over the last couple seasons. Going back to Brad Tree Living's time as GM, the Flames were busy, signing seven college standouts. Standouts like Garnet Hathaway turned into a real success, playing more than 600 NHL games before moving on. Walker Derra also made an impact as a regular before getting claimed on waivers. Earlier under GM's like Brian Burke and Jay Feaster,

they added a few more, such as Bryce Van Braven and David Eddie. Most of those guys stuck to the American Hockey League, or lower levels, without cracking the NHL full time. Overall, it's a mixed bag for the Flames, with these signings, some gyms, plenty of depth players, but it keeps fresh talent flowing into the system. The daily news now is powered by our sponsor.
