Caleb Wilson's Historic Freshman Season

0:00On March 18, North Carolina freshman forward, Caleb Wilson just picked up two more major All-America honors on Wednesday. The United States Basketball Riders Association put him on its second team while the National Association of Basketball Coaches named him to the third team. He also landed first team All-South Atlantic District with team-made Henry Vissar making second team there. Wilson's now got second team nods from the Associated Press, Field of 68, and CVS Sports plus third team from sporting news. That AP honor means his number-aid jersey will hang in the Smith Center rafters someday. He's the first Tar Heal freshman to earn that kind of recognition, joining Tyler Hansbro in Elite Company. What makes this special is Wilson Stats. He's the first Carolina player ever to lead the team in points, rebounds, and assists per game as a freshman. He set school rookie records with a 19.8 scoring average, 17-20 point games, and 24 straight double figure outings.

1:00To start his career, he grabbed 9.4 rebounds per game, second best for any Tar Heal freshman and not to 11 double doubles. Wilson earned first team All-ACC honors and made the ACC All-Freshman team just the third freshman in school history to do so. Injuries cut his season short after 24 games, a broken left-hand bone sideline him for six contests, then a right thumb fracture in practice, ended it. Still, his impact sets up big things ahead for the Atlanta native and North Carolina hoops.
