Caleb Downs is a DALLAS COWBOY | Doin' Alright – Presented by World Springs

About this episode

Episode 147: Night 1 of the NFL Draft is in the books and the Dallas Cowboys may have just walked away with the biggest steal of the entire draft. The Dallas lands Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence. Voch and Bryan break down exactly how this happened and why multiple teams ahead of the Cowboys may have made a MASSIVE mistake passing on Downs. How does an elite talent like Downs fall to 11? What led to him slipping down the board? And did the Cowboys just reshape their defense in one night? The guys dive deep into the board and walk through the key picks that led to this moment. They also break down what Malachi Lawrence brings to this roster and how both players fit immediately into the Cowboys’ scheme.

And we are back with a team sucker drafting addition of the doing all right podcast on a lovely Friday morning recapping all the festivities that went on yesterday previewing some of the festivities as going to be going on Friday and Saturday. Brian brought us sitting over there across the couch just me and him and his mom some people want to sleep. It's cool. You'll see him later. You'll see him later. I love my siblings. You know what I mean? But watch had to had to get up and happen to truck and coming to the doing all right podcast to talk a little talk today. I noticed that we got our our shirts promote up here on the screen. And it fails a strange lady. We told y'all to go and get them shirts man. Yeah. Told y'all to go grab them because they was going to run out fast. Now Brian brought us. I thought we was just selling merchandise. Yeah. I thought we was just trying to be cool. I thought we was just, you know, say trying to do our little thing of the jig today with Brian. The NFL truly was a strange lady. Now teams truly do kind of suck at drafting a little bit. Yeah. We're going to talk about round one. Not really

recap round one. This is a week. We're we're still in all 32 team land right now. This will be cowboy intensive. But we're going to kind of recap round one. Talk of, you know, react, talk about the things that happen in front of us. I'll leave this thing all, Brian. How about this? Vice says this. I'm one of your draft chair. Mm hmm. I'm one of yours. You know what I'm saying? You have many draft children. I think I'm the favorite, but it's it's okay. Uh, you always talk about not window dressing your board. And some fascinating came up in conversation in this last week getting ready for the draft. I didn't I didn't think about it as much. But having less time on the clock. How would that impact? Yes, teams. Yes. How would that impact how they navigate some of this stuff? Mm hmm. And I think a lot of people took it from a trade standpoint. Well, you know, a lot of teams have it in their mind. They have these trades worked out already prior to the trade actually happened. Brian, one thing I hadn't considered with tomorrow in mind, or, you know, yesterday, being like, you know, today being Thursday or to what yesterday

being Thursday, right? With in mind, I didn't anticipate how teams would react if a player was on the board that they didn't anticipate. Yeah. How fast would you how how how smooth would you be able to change plans? If you're the New York Giants, Brian Brothers, I say, if you're the New York Giants, and you walk into the draft going, all right, we want to take an offensive player and a defensive player. You didn't account for RV or Reese being there. No, you didn't. That showed defensive player. Right. I wonder if the Giants had in their mind, okay, guys, let's follow the plan and let's take an offensive, let's take an offensive player, no matter what, at 10 overall. Right. I wonder if they anticipated having one of their better players on the board and then passing on them because the offensive player was there. Malinois could have been ranked higher. I don't know. Sure. You're going to do some research and let us know. Yeah, I am. But Brian, I would

have to believe that most people, logical, sound draft people would have downs in Reese higher than Malinois. I know I did. Did you? Yeah. Yeah, I did too. And I feel like they should have doubled up, but maybe they weren't ready for out. Yeah, no, I know on my board, I know on my board, I had Malinois over Reese. Okay, cool, cool, cool. So, you know, when you look at it was downs, it was love, Malinois, and then, you know, the ones behind you. Yeah. It's talking to some guys with the Giants this morning. Their, their thought was they went into this draft, you know, thinking like, you know, much like what we were saying with them, it could be Malinois, it could be styles, it could be downs. They were, they were, they were focused on those types of players. And then when Arizona did what they did, then that kind of took them into a different, into a different

area code. And they, they were not, they, they, honestly, they did not believe that they were even going to have a chance at Malinois and, and Reese. I mean, they wouldn't, and you talk about a complete pivot from where they were at. I mean, that, that was, that's, that's key right there, that they were able to, to do those things. And it, and it was, you know, they were, but they were prepared. They were prepared. You, it's funny how you could sit there and talk about, you could talk about players for two months. Yeah. And you could talk about how this thing is going to work out. And then all of a sudden, a player is not there, or a player is there that you had no, and no idea you were going to get. I think the Dallas Cowboys were doing everything in their power to Will Caleb Downs there. I think they were, I think they were doing everything. They were channeling any, any

interactions they could have with the draft gods and just will that thing. And a couple of things fell their way to get that player. But for the giants talking to their guys, they, they were surprised that they came away in round one with, with both, with Reese and Malinois. That's a good haul by them because both of those are guys that they would consider at five. Yeah. I wouldn't see why they wouldn't assume that Downs would be a guy. Yeah. You know what I mean? Sure. Oh, hey, look, shots that's over, Brian, Brian, they can do whatever you want to do. Like I'm, I'm in for the benefit of the Cowboys here. But your, your big six was starting to get wiped out pretty fast. They were, they were, they were going off the board pretty quick. Yeah. Styles went Kansas City in which he was supposed to trade up allegedly. Right. Oh, no, no, no. But I had heard that allegedly, you were supposed to be trading up with Kansas City. But I would imagine that Kansas City saw the Browns deal more favorable because they get to get the lane.

They wanted to move up to get the lane. So now if you're the Cowboys, you were, you were, you were thinking that you're, you're, you're trading up to go get Caleb Downs. But you lose out on Kansas City or whatnot. So now if you're the Cowboys, you're, you're, I'm not saying that you're panicking, but it's like, oh boy. Now what? Yeah, kind of sort of right. So here's another talk point that's on line, Brian. Why would you give up two, five to move up one spot? Yeah. Cause you don't want to freaking lose Caleb Downs. You don't want to lose on Caleb Downs. There's no telling how many people are on the phone with Miami. That's, see, that's the team. And I think that you and I, I think really crown global media as a whole, whether it was our show here on the doing our right or the stack. We were sounding the alarm bells about Miami. We didn't want to mess around. Yeah, we were, it was the, and listen, in Rappaport this morning or even last night, Pittsburgh's on the phone.

Pittsburgh's on the phone with with lemon. You know, they're, they're on the phone. They're, they're talking about drafting. Let's fill it out if you do. Yeah. Fill it out if he goes ahead and drafts, you know, all of a sudden it's like, well, wait, what? You know, like, lemon is talking to, you know, con the general manager at, at Pittsburgh and all of a sudden filled out if you, the call butts in, oh, we just took you. That's why you don't, you know, you don't mess around. You know, Miami, in my opinion, going into the strapped, this is going to sound bad. Please. Volatile team. Volatile in the way of the wild card. You don't know. I, I, they made everything. I've said this. I mean, I've said this. I've said this. I've said this. I, I know John Eric Sullivan. He's a general manager there. You know, first year general manager, first year head coach, you, you know, not, he's not married to any of those players.

He's married to the picks. He's married now to the players that they select. So he was going to do whatever he had to do. He was a mercenary and it was going to be, hey, you off from me enough picks. I'll move out of there. You know, you don't make it worth my while. I'll stay there. I'll find somebody else. You know, Miami is it very much to me. Was a team when you saw me the first year general manager. What if Dallas had a deal and all of sudden somebody came in with a better deal and now you're getting, now you're getting jumped that way. You know, give, often some credit for honoring the deal that they had with the Cowboys. Yes, the two fives. It secured likely the best player on their board. And then for Dallas to recoup in the fourth, they get the two fours from Philadelphia. And then you could talk about that as a whole another thing. But I think you drafted a guy that can cover that guy. Yeah. 100%. Yeah. You drafted a guy that can cover that guy. So, you know, but it's, it's, I thought Dallas

A plus on the execution of not messing around. Listen to the Lawrence pick. You know, we were talking about it here on the, on the doing all right on the stack. Where was Dallas comfortable pick in Lawrence? Train back a little bit. Train back a little bit. Ain't you turn two fives into two fours. That's exactly right. And now you can potentially, and you know, probably get into this today, Votch, about what do you do with one of those fours? I floated the idea late last night, and even on one on the on Dallas Cowboys.com and one of five three of the fans, you say, I would take one of those fours and go to Miami and try and get Brooks the linebacker. I try. If, if John Eric Sullivan and Miami is into collecting picks, I'll give him a four to go get a linebacker that he might not want. We'll see. We'll see how that all plays out. But really A plus the Cowboys for their ability to read where the draft where they needed to be. They could have got cute.

They could have traded down more and then maybe lost Lawrence. But once Mesa door went ahead of them, you know, then it would have turned in. You would have been sick if you'd have lost Lawrence. Nothing against how or Mason Thomas or any of those guys. But you would have been sick if the guy that you coveted in day one, you lost him because you were being cute. Give him credit for not being cute. Cowboys did the right thing. They did the right thing. At the end of the day, those fives are like Vileami for Hoco, man. Those fives, you know what I'm saying, Shamar James. If you could give away Vileami for Hoco and Shamar James to ensure that you get Caleb Downs, some people were like panicking about the fives. And this is for your number one player on the board. My number two, but like let's not overthink this. Let's talk about Downs for a little bit, Brian Brothers. I really like one thing that I loved about it, right? Is Jalen Thompson's

on the team right now. We all know that Downs is a high Q player, smart player. Very high Q, right? But I'm still not the biggest fan of taking all the responsibility and putting it on the rookie day one. Put it on Jalen Thompson day one. Jalen Thompson has done this in the league already. Let him be sort of the bridge guy. Look, Jalen Thompson can be here for the next couple of years. He got a chief deal. If you want to come back on another chief deal, I can see it happening. But let Jalen Thompson run the responsibilities now. Let him take control and orchestrate the defense and let Caleb Downs learn under him for a year or two years or whatnot, right? So just so just that all the pressure is not on him year one. Whatever Jalen Thompson's not doing, Caleb Downs can be doing the other job. If Thompson is playing free, then Downs will be playing nickel. If Jalen Thompson, if the matchup requires that Jalen Thompson would be playing the nickel that week, then cool. You can take Downs and put them put them at the other safe. You can put them up high, Christian Parker thinks, or he says that nickel is going to be the 425 is going to be the nickel

formation. That's going to be 70% of the time. 425 is like two linebackers, two down safeties that kind of look like corners and like one high guy. Man, those two down guys could be Downs and Thompson. Brian brought us. I thought something was, you know, something that was interesting is Downs was working with our pass rush coach, BT Jordan, just working on pass rush stuff. And when you hear Christian Parker talk about what his nickel player is, he mentioned sometimes this guy has to bliss. Sometimes has to do linebacker stuff. So, hey, Caleb Downs going to be getting sacks for you in that case. You know what I mean, Brian, I just think the you drafted one dude that got four jobs on this defense that needed a bunch of dudes to do a whole bunch of jobs, right? I mean, right. The vision for the player is what it is now. I think when you get Caleb Downs in the mix, you're going to find you could even do more with him. And sometimes as a rookie, you worry about

that. Sometimes you, are we giving him too much? Are we going to overload him? I don't think this kid is wired that way. I think you'd start to talk about, you know, him going to Alabama, him playing for Nick Sabin, him wanting to be coached hard, him wanting to have responsibilities. You know, Nick Sabin was talking about, listen, when you, when you, when you, when you talk about players with instincts and awareness, you know, that's, that's a great trait to have as a football player. And I feel like that, you know, there, I think this, when you watch Downs play, all the different things you can do to help your defense with that type of player and play them all at a very high level is, is why this kid was one or two on a lot of boards. You know, it's just, it's, it's, it's, it's a shame. I, I never looked at this kid like as a safety because if you look

at him as a safety, then maybe the positional value thing clouds your judgment. Yeah. Look at him as a defender. Yeah. Look at him as a weapon. You know, you say, well, teams don't draft safeties. This kid plays safety, plays linebacker, plays corner, plays slot, he blitzes, doesn't sound like it's just a safety to me. That's a lot of shit. That's a lot of shit. He's rushing to pass or getting that's a lot of, that's a, that's a lot of shit. Yeah. As you would say, and, and, and very well put, position, if the league looked at him just, well, we were not going to take, he's not a safety. Yeah. He is a football player. He is a weapon on the defense for what he can do. So if you're looking at him as like, we're just not going to take a safety because we don't take safety sat high, then you're, you never had the right vision for this player. Yeah. I think Christian Parker has the right vision. Now it's up to Christian Parker to be able to do what Nick Sabin and

Matt Patricia and others have done before you. There's, the, the Cowboys have been paying such a premium to flip this secondary. Yeah. You know, you bring in a corner and Durant, a couple of the corners is probably going to be deaf guys as well, but I'm just mentioning Durant because I think he's going to be like a, like an important piece of this thing. PJ Lock, I heard him do a podcast somewhere. He said he picked the Cowboys because he's going to have opportunity to play. I ain't no PJ Lock was promised playing time, but he's involved hookers around. There's going to be questions about his role, but we'll see Caleb Downs, the 11th overall pick top five player on everybody's board should be top three on most. And Jalen Thompson, who's your biggest acquisition. Like Christian Parker has all the stuff that like are we done with secondary? We're going to, we're going to keep previewing draft and keep talking about it. But secondary doesn't seem to be like an emergency anymore now, right? Yeah. Vashi, I, this is where self reflection, self, not reflection, self reflection. We tired. We use an auto role. No, no, self reflection in,

this is where self reflection takes over when you're looking at the draft. And I'm in that mode where those cornerbacks, when I stack these cornerbacks, the fact that I have McCoy, I understand McCoy is why, where he is, what he is, but I wanted to give the players do. I know this is going to be where he falls is going to be a story. Terrell Hood, Cise, Abney, Rivers, Ponds. It's a quality group, but how I stacked them, which, and this is something that I, you should brought up the other day, teams, we, me, I say we, me had problems with these offensive tackles. They still all got drafted. And the teams left these corners alone,

where usually it's, usually these corners, there's a run on corners. And maybe we'll see it today. But where I, where I, and we'll see how these guys play too, once they get drafted. But it surprised me that I had the quality of corner still on my board here in the second round. I didn't expect Hood to be a second round corner. Yeah, I didn't either. And so to me, this is where, this is where teams are going to get these players. And hopefully they'll all play at a very, very high level. But if you're telling me, it's that deep, I still got to wait into the water. I still got it. If you're telling me that I've got first and second round corner still on board, I'm going to wait into that water. You know, now maybe I'm dead balls wrong about all of them. But at least the way I stacked them, it made me think, gosh, did I, did I mess up the stack? Did I have them too high?

I do. I think you're going to see a run and to your point. I think Dallas, I think Dallas is in consideration. I don't see Dallas getting a second round pick. We can maybe talk about if you're interested. If you want to get a second round pick and not have to use draft capital, dangle George Pickens. I don't think they want to do that. But yeah, no, but I'm saying, if you're, if you're so inclined, you can do it. You can do it. That's your, you want to get back in this without giving up, you know, three in the fours and all that, dangle George Pickens. And see if you can get the two, get a two, and then you're back into the picture. But to your point, I think you're out of the safety market. But I wouldn't say that you're out of the corner market. Maybe one more corner on that, on that board. We'll see. Mario Kovasovs. Kovrasovs says the goat. Mr. Brian Broad is a draft rap video is,

it's fire. Yeah, we, we caught Brian on the AI as a music video came out. So I just had to Brian Broad's there. Appreciate you, sir. Also, we have, let me scroll down a little bit. Adam Mcnew dropped the five in a super chat. It says, if you acquired a lineback via trade, would you consider Nussmire at 92? Me personally, no, I just keep stacking on defense. Brian, would you drive a quarter back at any point? Yeah, you know, I come from the program in Green Bay, where we were always drafting quarterbacks. And I, I, I was surprised that Nussmire, I'm not saying he was a first round player. I was surprised that Simpson went in the first round. But yeah, if you were in a situation right now, I think that Garrett Nussmire is going to be taken in the third round today. Yeah. I don't think he's going to be taken by the cowboys. But I think the Garrett Nussmire, I've, I've, I had him, Aller Simpson, those guys, I, I had those guys all in the third round. Yeah, I don't know what's going on the rounds, man. So good job. Charles Gibson dropped the dime in the super chat says, Brian,

question for you, which position you don't want to see the cowboys drafted? Answer that question for him. If you don't want to see quarterbacks, you don't want to see off, you, you really want to get on defense, you want to stay on defense. You want to get linebacker figured out, you made want to add another Russia. Yeah. Yeah, I, I think, so I think you're absolutely right about that. Listen, do, do you want, do you want to play the wide receiver game? Do you want to, do you want to, I mean, see, that's what I'm saying. So the offensive positions, you want to draft, you, you feel like you, we don't really feel great about these offensive tackles. They all went tight in and all that. I'm tied in. Yeah. I keep, like keep throwing darts at defense and, yeah, and hold one of them kind of. So, so you're, so to your point, though, you're not interested in the offensive players. And that's what's the question, right? What positions do not want to see? Votch is, Votch is looking at the offensive side of the ball as a, how about a runner? Then these runners make you feel, Brian, I'll wait till the, the sixth round. Okay. I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll send some

undrafted contracts off of some running bags. Okay. I'm trying, I'm trying those. So, so, so Votch's plan and, and I don't totally disagree with it is to, to, to continue to address the defensive side of the ball. Yeah. Chris, a Christian Parker got a lot of stroke in that room. Sure does. So, I wouldn't be surprised if he, he keeps, uh, he keeps Jerry and Steven and Will on his, on their toes for this. You know, he, he seems like the guy, it's like, yeah, maybe we need to help the offense. And then, but then again, I kind of see him walking in there and saying, hey bro, I ain't giving Clayton Adams one of these, I ain't going to go to Kabul right now. Clayton Adams, Clayton Adams in the offensive staff can go work on the playbooks. Yeah. Yeah. Go work on the playbooks. Yeah. I'll wait me. I mean, Christian Parker is going to take this draft over. Yeah. Uh, the picks drop a doucin' a super chat. Appreciate you. Thank you. It says, uh, we still have a chance at quality talent. Let's go. Sure does. Absolutely. Yeah. Just for context, I'm looking at my board here, Brian. We have our, our board is set up to where we can see how many, uh, people

have here. Um, man, I got 39 third round grades and 42 second round grades. You know what I mean? And some of my third and fourth round grades got drafted last night. Yeah. So, uh, the ones, uh, and this is funny because we were thinking about players and I know you asked a question about Colton Miller. Mm hmm. Not Colton Miller. Excuse me. Uh, Blake Miller. Blake Miller from, from in the discussion that we had, maybe you should directed that all at me. No, no, no, no. See, she had, maybe she was in line more with the league than I was. See, this, this, where I met with it. I don't be on my board based on the league. Yeah. No, but I'm just saying though, the league, the league excited with her before it sided with me. The league will also draft Keeler Relage. Yeah. Well, the Minnesota pick, the Minnesota pick with the, with the defensive tackle was that, that, that, that I did not expect that one. It's a little, I did not expect that one. A little half for me. Uh, let's get back into the world's team. Shall I start our friends across

the pond? Across the pond. Uh, they sent five that ain't your roles. That's pounds. They sent five pounds. That's, uh, oh, like 10 bucks. That's like my, like two for one. That's like, that's like full 85 or something. Appreciate job. Oh, really? Yeah, it's something like that. Yeah, something like that. I love those guys over there, man. They had, they had, you talk about how a, how the late night, they, they went and they had them a proper breakfast this morning. I'm sure as they're getting ready for this, but I, I love beans and toasts and stuff. Yeah, the, the English breakfast, man, with the, the bangers and then the, the toast and the, the, the blood pudding and all that. Yeah. Yeah. It was a proper English breakfast with sometimes it's the, the fat, back bacon, back, but yeah, not, they call bacon our bacon. They call it streaky bacon. Okay. Oh, it's streaky. What's up, a banger? Banger's like a, uh, a sausage. Huh? Yeah. Yeah. I'll tell you what, man, a proper, a proper English breakfast, a proper English, and they,

and they, Vachi, they get like the beans out of the can. They, it's not like going to get for, they get the beans like hines, beans in a can. And that's, that's your, that's your breakfast. Right. You mean it's him that these people would just happen to call a sausage of banger? Call it a banger. Banger. But hey, listen, I, I love those folks. I love them too. I absolutely love them. Yeah. I really do. This says, uh, day one A plus, I am speechless. Uh, I just, uh, I just hope now we can address lineback recorder. Yeah. Uh, can we see a trade up to the end of the second round or do we just play it out? I think the cowboys want to play it out. Yeah. Um, I think some linebacker names for you to second round. Like, I think, I think the league looks at Jacob Rodriguez as a, as a third round guy. Yeah. We, uh, we've been, we've been fighting people that want to take them at 20 and that's cool. But I think I kind of heard if they leave values him in that range. Sure. That'd be a great time. That'd be a great time for the cowboys to take them.

I think the value. I think that what do you think is the situation with CJ Allen? Is it, they worried about me there? I think is, I think it's injury and like measurable and stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Teen Teen. So we've got, we've got a pocket of those linebackers. I, I'm not expecting by the time Dallas picks in the third. I think Hills gone. I think Alan's gone. I think Rodriguez could be gone. Uh, I think you, you know, we'll see what happens with Trotter. But I'm kind of looking at guys like Elliott. Uh, I'm looking at, uh, Barham. Yeah. Michigan, uh, looking at our other Michigan linebacker there too. Uh, Murdoch was a guy. Where do you, where do you take, uh, Perkins, you know, in there? Yeah. Four round maybe. Yeah. So this is, I'm kind of thinking, I'm not really thinking about Hill and Alan and Rodriguez. I've kind of dipped this thing down maybe a round or a round later than that. Yeah. We're going to talk about, um, the cowboys

the second, uh, first round pick Malachai Lawrence. But real quick, Brian's going to tell us about our good friends at world springs. Yeah. How about that? Vachi, uh, after, uh, after this draft, I need to go soak somewhere. Yeah. We need a soak. We need an absolute soak from, uh, from, uh, from world springs. And I'll tell you what, if you just finished a workout, uh, and you need that recover the right way, head over to worldsprings.com, use the code CGM for 30% off your soak reservation. You see right there, we got the QR code now. We're, we're a QR code team. We're in business now. So click on that man. It'll take you right there for your reservation. You go to this place. You will

absolutely love it with the cold dip with the hot, the hot, the, the spa kind of, uh, work there. The hot springs, the various waters. They've got food drinks. You can make it an all day affair. Make sure you take the misses along with you too, man. It is a good spot for couples and pro tip scouting tip. Go during the weekend. Yeah. We can they get really busy, but go during the week. But make sure you check out and, uh, click on that, that, that code and that'll help you out. Malachau Lawrence. Huh. Edge linebacker. 24th on my board. I had them behind some other guys, but the value makes sense. Go into my board. Explosive array of counters and pass rush tools. Motor like an MF. These, these are my notes. They look my, they look, people think, look, we ain't phony. Y'all going to find my, I know we, we put our big boards on crowngoamedia.com. But on my Twitter, I got my board up there. Y'all can look on my Twitter. You can look at my notes

if you want to. I'm reading all my notes. Motor like an MF. I don't know, I don't know if he has counters planned or if it's pure reaction. I asked him yesterday. You asked him that question. I asked, I say, Hey, man, I thought he gave you a good answer, but now I'm going to ask. Yeah. I love it when players just don't run down the middle of people. You should know, man, look, based on film, based on what they give me. I do have a plan, but I'm also reacting. I'm, and I think that's actually like a rare pass rush straight to be able to feel the rushing kind of react and do your thing there. So that all works out. Rashes at different tempos, good handfighters, speed, the power can be a surprise, solid in the run game. Could you some work explosive as hell, Brian? Malakow Lawrence. Cowboys traded back to get them. They felt like they like them at 20, but they love them a little bit later. Steven Jones and them was able to turn two fives in the two fours. I know we give the Jones a hard time. I know we give the Jones a hard time. They put on a clinic yesterday. That was well executed in terms of navigating the board. I know y'all like

to watch the Kevin Costner movie and all that and he did a bunch of moving up and moving back and he picked up. I want my pick back all that nonsense. Steven Jones, I know we like to fuss at him. He was in his bag yesterday, ladies and gentlemen. Got you a top five player, top three or so player on his board. And they got the pass rush that they wanted to take anyway. Brian, what were your thoughts on tonight? Can I do? Can I do one of my do my game with you? Please for edges. Yeah. Okay. But I'm going to do it for him. I'm out of color. One being poor. 10 being the best. Five being the best. One to five. Got you. One to five. Got you. Initial quickness. Four. A body. Five. Four. Four. Because if it was five, he'd be Michael Parsons. So four. Four. Four is Mississippi, right? Four. Four. Now, four is a four is a soup you get from the Vietnamese plays and fall. Oh, that's good soup, by the way. I love me and some that soup. I get before. Okay. Ability first the run.

Two. Yeah. Two. Yeah. I'm being fair. Two. You're being fair. You are being fair. I'm no home or two. No, I thought I thought you're actually going to go one. Two's fair. Because like I've seen guys. That's a that's a one. Yeah. Like we like we know guys. That's one. Like 90 Tuckers or one. Yeah. That's something like that. Yeah. But got you guys. Street the point of attack. Three. Key and diagnose. Three. Leverage and shed. Pass rushing four. Run game. Two. So three. Average three. Sure. Tackling. Two. Pass rush. Four point five. Yeah. Four. Defeat blocker. Four. Arm length. I think he's an arm living guy. Four. Yeah. I think he's arm living guy. Five. Really? I think he's think measure wise. Measure wise. He's good. He's five. Yeah. Pursuit. Five. Six.

Small of a six. Six lateral movement. Five. Close on quarterback. Five. What you just did. What you just did. You told us you feel like you need a little work in the run defense. It does. One percent. If you watch and if you talk to scouts around the league. They will tell you that's that's that's that's that's the area. If he figures out. If if those two's become threes. Yeah. Because he's got plenty of four point five's and five's and stuff when it comes to a pass rusher. Let me give you a high level draft take, Brian. Okay. When you watch UCF they did a bunch of goofish shit like play to make like four eye. Yeah. Why did you do that? They do that for them to do that for them wide. Let him go. I thought he was I thought he was a stand that guy up. Let him rush. I thought he was a much better run defender when he was standing from a seven or nine. Right. When they'll line them up. They'll put them at four I four and five. Like real close to the tackle. Right. And let those tackles really get in on them.

Like that's not his game. No need to keep them on that. Yeah. His game is quicker than you. His game is surprised you how fast how fast my hands got on you. So I think with just a small adjustment and asking him, you know, asking a small adjustment in what you're asking of him. Make some better already, Brian. He does have to work on the run game. That's his biggest great. I do think some people are kind of down on his like pass rush bag. I thought that's the one thing. That's the one thing he had. I thought that's the shit he had. If you talk about guys with counter moves, he got him. He's got them all. I think he's got them all. Yeah. He's one of the guys that has them all, which is why I mentioned there's no way because you know, my notes are based like they're real time notes. So I'm talking to myself in my nose. I'm like, man, there's no way he playing five counters here. Yeah. Nobody walks up to the line of scrimmage. Listening for the strength call, getting the play, lining up, gauging the splits in the distance and go, all right,

here are my five pass rush. Right. Nobody does that. Right. You may have two. The best half three. You watch go watch Baylor go watch UNC. You'll see him rush up feel draw you out. There's a video on his by the way rush up feel draw you out. Bull you quickly. Right. If some guys will bull you to the quarterback, he'll just bull you for a step. Yeah. Then turn that into a swim and defeat your other hand off the back end. But he chains moves together. I thought he had one of one of the bigger bags. Yeah. I agree with you. Watching him at the East West trying game. Yeah. Watching what rush the passer one on one. You're like those tackles how to hard time with his length. And they had a hard time with all the moves he had. Because he he really doesn't let you get your hands on him. He is he gets really he gets small. He gets

sideways. But he's going up the field. The run defense is going to be kind of a work in progress. And he will get better at that. I think, you know, the strength and development. Vach likes to talk about the peanut butter and stuff like that. I think you'll get better that way. But man, he is what the Cowboys needed when it comes from a pass rushing standpoint. Yeah. He is he is that guy. He is that guy that way. Let me throw something at you real quick Vachy. This time last year we were talking about a Donovan Ezraku. Sure. And I know me personally that on Donovan Ezraku. I feel that way about Lawrence this way. Am I am I going to be learning curve is a little bit more steeper again or how am I going to feel because I thought Donovan Ezraku was a really good pass rush. I think they're going to have similar looking rookie years. Okay. I'll I'll give

I can make a argument that Malachi will have a small bit of a better year because I think the defense would be put together better. Yeah. There's and Donovan Ezraku week one against Philly. Even though they played their ass off. Sure. You know that that game. Sure. The lion's share of the season was not that the secondary was struggling. There was no past. Look just to be clear if Donovan Ezraku if Christian Parker was the coach last year. I would think that Donovan Ezraku would be better last year. Right. That's just just to let y'all know where I'm coming from with that. I think Malachi Lawrence won't have to be forced into being the guy. I think he's going to come in on pass rush downs. I think he will eventually develop to be a better run defender. I was shocked by how far Donovan went. But I think Malachi is going to be deployed with James Houston. And James Houston comes out in clear pass rush downs. You know he'll he'll rotate in and out but he comes out

in pass rush downs. And I know that people are going to look at the first round the first round pick that's tagged on to him be like well Malachi has to start. He has to play more. No we don't. No we don't. He can rotate. And I actually like that a little bit. I actually I'm of the mindset that if you draft a Ricky really high and they have to play immediately you just had a hole on your team. Right. I would have rather draft the Ricky and they got a rotate or they got to sit down and then they'll take over later. So with Rashan Gary Donovan Ezraku I fully expect Donovan Ezraku he should be better than Malachi Lawrence. A year or two Donovan Ezraku we would hope that he's better than Malachi Lawrence. So I don't mind him. I don't mind Malachi Lawrence being the third rush off the off the bench there. Brian do you think the Cowboys are done with veteran rushers? You don't think they just call a clown or do you see what they talk about? You don't think they call guys like Ham Jordan just to see you know just reach out. Yeah I think they're on Miller. Yeah on Miller. I like that one. I do diligence. Why not? You know maybe it's a deal too where you kind of you bring those guys in and kind of see where they

are you know health wise workout wise and then after training camp like what you like you do with clowny that seemed to work out okay yeah nobody's beating down clowny's door right now so maybe circle back there but yeah I'm okay with that yeah yeah um let's do some real fast Brian you got it take a look at your board I know you like to highlight your board on the fly I do I saw you highlight I looked over your board just she had it highlighted I'm I'm proud of you I'm one of your cheering man uh let's uh let's talk about some of the best players that we have left over yeah and then we'll uh wrap up some of these last Super Chess and we'll get you ready for the stack there uh as far as wide receiver go so Brian let's do this let's go did we expect more of them to go do we expect less of them to go then let's talk about some of the best players that we have here and I'll just leave it off wide receiver uh this is about the number I expect that we have five of them go yesterday Tyson let me take a conception on and Cooper um now we're in the second round range I'm

anticipating Bernard Sirette Bell is hurt guys so maybe Boston Denzel Boston probably goes earlier than most of these guys um I wonder if like Daniels and Williams kind of end up going earlier I got a third on them but I wonder if they end up going lower early I got third rounds on Williams and Daniels and those guys so I kind of feel like that that's going to be a uh you know that's probably going to be a maybe into that third round so uh I could absolutely I think Boston's going very early the Washington wide receiver uh we mentioned about Bell Bernard I kind of feel like that that's but the the number one guy will be Boston I think that when we when the draft kicks off maybe maybe when the first five names off the board yeah I would agree uh one Titan went yesterday sedic uh and I think that's yeah that's all of my second round Titan as I had sedic as a second round graded Titan and uh he's on the one that went yesterday third round I got Star Wars in Claire yeah you could possibly see some of those guys going today yeah third round. Third round

I think that third round will be all those all those Titans and you mentioned uh Star Wars Vanderbilt Claire Ohio State DELP from Georgia is a guy that I have a third jolly from North Carolina state more of a blocker type of a guy so I anticipate uh at least Star Wars Claire probably those guys going maybe maybe second round and then the other ones though third and then maybe in the day three now Brian offensive tackle you're white now if you're a team you yeah and you want to offense tackle that you feel like can start I think you uh I think you kind of missed the both there uh Mauinoa Fano Proctor Freelink E. Hanachor uh that are uh are a good friend at the Pittsburgh Steelers we we all we all like this guy Max E. Hanachor uh Lomu and Miller they all went I got some second round grades on them guys I got some thirds on them guys so Brian the next offensive tackle I have available are like fourth round grades for me but that's the offensive tackle uh

marker right now yeah I kind of feel like too that I I got a little wiped out with uh with that crew if you uh if you're looking like if you're looking second round offensive tackle yeah man I I think that would be a little bit of a reach there is third rounds I know you and I talked about there's Burke from I I don't think you and I talked about Burke it's a guy that I did before we were breaking down what school Memphis I didn't was Burke Burke and then also though pounds that we watch from deep pounds I got deep pounds from Mississippi I got a fifth round on him yeah see so that's I had him remember I had him in the fourth this is this is the discussion oh that camera angle was too good uh but yeah maybe maybe I think you I think you're right about missing the boat on some of these guys yeah for sure uh I was surprised at how guard played out I would assume that I was feeling like last year guard had gained more value and their teams would be going to go get guard more because three techs have evolved a little bit yeah but uh Vega

y'all Vega Iona went to Baltimore and then Keelan Rettler's guy drafted really high I thought that was strange there but shots out to them yeah that is strange that's a very cold strange type move for them but uh just my guards I got left over Jalen farmer Emanuel Pregnion and you also got Jennings Dunker that can also be some uh do some guard stuff for you today Brian yeah and the thing about is uh Pregnion is uh that's the highest rated guard that I have left yep on the board uh a lot of people were talking about the besantis from besantis is going to go had a day Texas A&M got a four on him though yeah Texas A&M I have him in the third and I was there was people talking about him potentially being a first round guy yeah and that did not play out I think you're right I think he's going to go very early here in the second round yeah um all of our centers are there and I like these these centers a lot I got one uh I got Connor Lewin the second round I got slaughter and hitched in the third round yeah they're all they're all with the exception of hex they're all kind

of undersized they're all 300 pound 305 pound guys I wouldn't be surprised like I said uh those guys are all more third round guys than they are second round guys yeah who cares about quarterbacks you think we're going to get a run on running backs early or is that more of a day three thing I I would love and price yesterday yeah I would I would I know we really really really like uh Johnson from Nebraska uh was a possibly Coleman is a guy that probably doesn't have from Washington doesn't have great time speed but he's a really good pass blocker kind of a complete back catch the ball block all those kinds of things I wouldn't be surprised probably more of a third round guy as well I'm brown we talk about position value all the time we didn't get a huge run on the edges yes um so let's start with edges that I have his linebackers I don't know if they're separated on on your board uh so we could just put them together I got Bailey Bane Messador of Lawrence and fuck ended up going right guys I thought we'd go I got I got second round

grays on them mellow hey I heard that he's probably going to be more of a third round guy but I love him but yeah he's a little older uh older and bounce a bunch of schools and there's yeah there's all kinds of questions our mason Thomas I just knew how to chance to go yesterday maybe he'll go the body type might be a problem to some teams maybe small cash is how arm length and stuff that's another measurable older as well tj parker probably goes early today I would say so too yeah I would say so some of my my third round guys that I have brand is max Lou well and I love him a bunch yeah Brian do you do you think the cowboys could possibly double up at edge sure like like we we we talked about them like calling like the old men like what about draft no absolutely sure I mean you the quality of the quality of the player uh when you start to talk about if if if Lou well and from I was there he's not going to run out of sight he's not going to jump he's not going to but you watch him play yeah there is a he you know he could stand up he could put his hand down he could attack the way he's got length he plays the run well he gives you

some occasional pass rush I could see him Crawford uh from Auburn was a guy that a lot of people were kind of talking about harkens more jerosus yeah young there was some young there was a buzz that young was going to be a late one and and here he has he's probably going to be a guy I think how mason Thomas Parker young probably all going to go in the second round yeah and now you need to get ready for height Lou well and uh Dennis Smith uh and that crew Crawford as well yeah um defense of tackle all we got was uh Kayla Banks and Peter Woods is interesting because I thought that the better dudes like me not uh Kate McDonald from Ohio State I thought Lee Hunter would be going Kristen Miller I would assume that those guys would have gone before all all early second round guys yeah I think those are all early second round guys and then we'll get down into our Texas A&M on your team on your team yeah I think that he'll probably be more like a third round guy like I'm we got orange from Iowa State would be a guy that's kind of a kind of guys but I would say like

say McDonald Miller Hunter probably all second round guys and then the everybody else will fill in probably in the third let me go back to my fours real fast brant I'm looking at my four front edges right I got guys like Gabe Yakis and Danny Dennis Smith you think you could see them today yeah I do there were people talking about Yakis was going to be a first round guy look I haven't I just I'd never saw that but but yeah Joseph you know Lucas Curry yeah maybe all guys they're probably day three guys a brant cowboy nation been trying to get Jacob Rodriguez up in here yeah pretty early there I think it's and I think it's more than likely he's he's he's going to go today I think there's going to be a big run on these linebackers recent styles went yesterday brant yeah CJ Allen Golday Trotter Hill they should be flying off and Rodriguez probably after that yeah there's uh maybe media scouts had had this had those guys those linebackers I know

the way I stacked him when you're starting to talk about hill yeah was in that mix Allen is there something wrong with the knee there we need to kind of keep an eye on that one and then Rodriguez talking to some folks at Texas Tech they felt like that Rodriguez was going to go in the second round yeah they were they were hopeful that that Dallas was going to be picking him but there might be something to do with the size a little bit size of measurements yeah um now you thought that we were too high on these corners uh most of these guys kind of ended up um falling to you Jamal McCoy is a different situation we'll know when it's gonna um go down but uh my my sword delaying goes early Chris Johnson ends up in the next corner right off the board from say that's what happened once once you started to see the injuries once you started to see the news on on uh on McCoy and then once there was questions about tarot speed and then then all of a sudden I'm surprised I'm surprised who didn't go before Johnson um but I can understand that Johnson's the guy that

benefited from some of these corners fallen because of various reasons I got a bunch of day two corners bro yeah I need to uh who would see say tarot at me uh and the quality might be the quality of those guys might be yeah where where they you're like you're gonna it's hard every pick is going to be boy that's a value pick that's a value pick right there more ponder river um ever it stokes yeah it's it should be uh stokes stokes I think stokes is going to be early we're going to hear his name maybe before some of these others then they're safety the uh Dallas cow uh the Dallas football cowboy took Caleb down staining him and went to the bears but just some names left over make Neil Warren should be one of the first five or six weeks yeah McNeil Warren I think would probably go very early in this thing Minnesota was kind of different we we we kept mocking to Minnesota that they were going to take safety and they take it yeah they need a defensive tackle but I'm surprised if you need defensive tackle why don't you just take McDonald's I think you're betting betting on the upside there of the of the player but yeah uh potentially could could weatly be a guy from

Penn State that maybe you and I are higher on but he goes in the third round team sucking draft and they should they should go ahead and take wheeling and just take them off the board then but they'll wait around some other names uh Clark Halsey uh Scott I'm interested I'm interested to see how teams look at Scott yeah corner of safety or Lewis Lewis yeah yeah yeah I wonder I wonder if Lewis turns into I wonder if those I wonder if the projected nickel slot corner guys that we safeties that wonder if that those projections all end up like day three like picked in the top of the fourth round instead of the third round we got 200 300 people watching live we're going to get through these supers and we're going to appreciate y'all for tapping in with us our comp dropped five he says after everyone drafting uh cornerback and middle linebacker which is uh which is higher trade especially physical ability orientals okay so when we drafting corners and linebackers right what's more important uh physical ability or like being intelligent I would I would love both

yeah I would love both though when you start to talk about uh you know when you look at just on the Cowboys way of looking at this yeah keying diagnosis really important for both on their position specifics so to your point I think to me give me the linebacker though that has smart the smart and in the athletic corner yeah and give me the athletic corner yeah uh the picks drop five it says a GP4-2 is highway robbery I would need more sidebar I enjoy seeing the Eagles and Giants fans may appreciate you the pick I don't think they want to move on from uh from pickings he'll be playing football no if if but but that's if you're if you're if you're trying to not lose draft capital and next year's picks and you're not going to do anything with George Pickens none of us want to move George Pickens but that is a chip they have now with him signing that tender Rob CT drop the dime it says get back in a second round using the force and next year I don't think they want to use next year uh get our linebacker or corner in the second I think they might be done on corner you know they might go corner day three or something but I think early

uh they they're kind of done with those um and sign GP and carry the cap for the next four years hey man we feel you man appreciate you appreciate it uh the picks says pause I'm assuming that they're talking about the uh the uh english breakfast there um appreciate your player uh landlaw from Alabama appreciate you maybe go ahead you on show at some point uh slew division brine is there any chance that we move back into the second for a corner or a lineback I think they just hang hang around the third round I think they're comfortable picking in the third in the third and the fourth three times yeah I think they're very comfortable with that uh appreciate the landlord uh the picks came back with with another docent says uh brine you need a time out for all this language I think you saw my breakfast again the world teams came back with another five pounds hey if the cowboys get Rodriguez with the third uh paul will be streaking the streets well I think over there and then yeah really put you in jail they streak him anyway don't do when they all put on their kilts pretty much that's kind of they don't worry that's a Scotland Scotland yeah I'm from Mississippi I don't know yeah they they with the kilts they don't think we

were anything under our kilts I'm from Ireland miss it babe man if you get Rodriguez and downs yeah along as a go get a rest my bill yeah we'll uh buy y'all we'll give you your pounds back we'll give you your five pounds back uh let's see J J R I T V uh tech TV hold on I didn't hit a button on this thing here we go he dropped the duh appreciate you uh vosh bras do you think we have a chance to draft draft into your mom McCoy I heard some stuff brine yeah this kind of tapping in with I'm gonna I hate that I did this to our fans uh after this show I'm gonna go get on the phone and see how bad that medical really is did you hear did you hear it was worse than I wonder what the cowboys thought about his film there you go on top of the injury okay inside or vosh I don't know man I just insider wait wait wait this is the first time I've heard about the film though what's up okay talking about um week sizzle drug to five uh he says uh main let's give barm from Michigan at 92 he's another guy that if yes out on one of your that's how you

use this guy she she likes barm she loves barm well she's what she's right about barm then uh they could be a linebacker and a pass rusher for you so uh hey I would love to have barm uh here we go here we go we got some more that's more I think we cool Jeff g drug five it says Lawrence gets Josh sweat comps the coming off the ball the pair yeah uh I seen his workout his numbers compare to Khalil Mac comps don't mean much but uh how is he the how is the 20 how is he 20 picks worse than Bailey I think team there's there's people that think that he might have the best technique of the pass rushers in the draft when it comes to the counters I would agree but looking at the board though Brian yeah I'm trying to be consistent yeah I seen Bailey go against a first round pick yeah and I seen him in the in the post season yeah I seen mellow height whoop another first round pick that that place for the for the Patriots now and I seen him in the post season our Mason Thomas Caden Proctor I seen him first first round picks

caches how friends malinoa I seen him first first round picks malikai's Lawrence's biggest competition is Baylor no care a lot that's true I have to be fair yeah I do think he's a better technician than these guys right but just based on how I build my board and I'm trying to be consistent with that that's why I got a ranked under those guys but malikai Lawrence is my 24th overall player at cowboy's taking a 23rd the value makes sense right but a Bailey is whooping um phantom you you can't you can knock this so I think that's why that's why that's the case and that is our last super chat we appreciate y'all we appreciate all hundred thousand of y'all watching us live we appreciate world springs we appreciate the draft we're gonna do it all over again to get in at uh go through our Friday and Saturday picks and come back with a fantastic show on uh Monday our website everything is on it NFL is a strange lady we're run out of time you got like another 36 hours to get that shirt go as that pull up therefore you got about another
