His book about me because it was very self-serving and I filled in all the pages. But honestly, after the cat and a hat came back, that was it for me, dude. It's going to say no one loves Steve Kavino more than Steve Kavino. I know Iowa Sam's favorite books, Sam I am, bro. Sam I am. It's a remix in him. Hey. Do you know there's a backstory to that, Sam? Tell me about it. You want to learn something? I want to hear more about this Jim Carrey thing because I just heard he got like, you know,

4:11he's messed with. You don't hear about it. But he's Elwegger. It's a classic surgery. Dr. Seuss's birthday. He was dared. He was dared to write a book with 50 words or less. And he said, all right, bet. I'll take the physical challenge. I'll take a ride down the Sunday slide. I'll grab the flag up the rubber nose. And I write a book and he wrote a book with 50 words or less. And it was one of his most popular, in fact, the most popular Sam I am and his green eggs and ham. You know, you talk about Sunday slide. I was a bigger fan of when they would bury the flag in between the waffles. That was a good one. That was a good one too. By the way, Danny G. Great to see you. He's our super producer. How's your weekend, buddy? Yeah, yeah. How are you guys doing? Good, man. Going to be back. I like getting back into the flow of things. Yeah. All the places you'll go. Of course. Loan Cron is hanging out and let's get into it, man. Happy. Heavenly birthday to Dr. Seuss, a guy that changed a lot of our lives. Well, can we know you told me something this morning? I did not know.

5:12Not only did Dr. Seuss win a $50 bet that he could write a book using only 50 words. He was about to call quits. And the story goes he was walking down the street. He was walking down the street and he had a book under his arm and he had given up. He said, if I'm not getting signed today, he went to every publisher in the city. And on his last publisher, they didn't give him the, okay, he's like, all right, well, I'm giving this up and I'm, I'm burning this book and that's it. I'm giving up as, as an author, he ran into an old pal who had just got hired by a publishing company. That's funny that you would rewritten a book, see? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm working for a publisher now. See, how about I take it over down to the publishing company for you? Dr. Seuss, see, he wasn't, he wasn't the Dr. Seuss then. He was like writing comics for the newspaper. Yeah, but, uh, and his friend brought it to the publisher. On the day he was ready to call it quits and had he called it quits, we wouldn't have all these legendary stories. The guy 600 to 700 million books sold later, he's a legend.

6:15You know, there's another story about, uh, just giving it one more shot. Now, I'm sure the story is in sports and entertainment. You could probably think of, but I know we, we have the theory of, uh, like, how do you know when someone's really dead? What if he gave one more chest compression? Like, like, it's really, you never know when to give up. I call that the Bob Ross theory. It's like Bob Ross. You'd be like, oh, it's done. Don't stop it. And then how do you know when he's really done? Cause every time I thought he was done, he carried on with happy little trees and little cabins. I'm like, no, and then it always came out better. I do. It snow on the tree. It was perfect. No. Okay. All right. I see what you're doing. Bob Ross. Um, John Krasinski. Do you guys watch the office? Obviously back in the day. Absolutely. Do you know his story? I was Samuel. No. He was about to call it quits. He moved out to Los Angeles and dead end after dead end. These waiting tables, probably bartending and he's like mom, I'm coming home with the dreams over. He's like, well, you have the lease of your apartment until the end of the summer. So why don't you just hang out for just a few more months and in those few months when

7:15his mom said, just tough it out a couple of months and then come back at the end of the summer. He got the audition for the office. We heard so many stories and sports of so and so was, um, you know, stocking shelves or a journey. Lin was living on a couch like these people, whether in the back of their mind or not, they still believe they had a chance. They were pretty close to calling it quits. Michael J. Fox was close to calling it quits in that little apartment that he had. Yeah. That's true. I mean, there's so many, so many great stories. But yeah, Dr. Su's one of them, like you said, a guy that almost sold the billion books was about to call a quits. They say on the day he was ready to burn the copy of to think I saw it on Mulberry Street. I believe was the first book. Well, you know, who has a big story like that? Pat McAfee, right? Remember, he was going to go to a smaller college and he rounded up the money to go to like a kicking competition. And he's like, I know if I go to this bigger schools and notice me and everyone's like, I don't know, dude, just take your scholarship for the smaller school. And Mac, if he tells us the story about how you believed in yourself, that got him noticed

8:17and tada, the rest is history. So went to West Virginia where he was able to play in some big time bull games. But before that, that was not the plan. Right. Yeah. So, hey, bet on yourself. Believe in yourself. Do it. You know, the Dr. Sus book that co up wants me to read to him every single day. Okay, I guess. Yeah, go for one fish, two fish red fish, blue fish. Oh, Horton, here's a hoe. I mean, it involves a car. Falls a car. Go, dog, go. Ah, you do. He has so many. So we even turned that into a cartoon series. And they're currently making a rebooting another cat in the hat because the Michael Myers one, the Mike Myers one, I should say. They didn't do it. The Mike Myers one. Is that a horror version? Didn't do what they expected. It was kind of creepy. But you know, it's kind of creepy story when you watch it, yeah, or when you read it. So anyway, we celebrate Dr. Sus and the stories of people just about to give up and then realized, nope, they have bigger dreams ahead.

9:20Well, can I ask you a question? As Danny G cleans off his chair on video, by the way, that's great. If you're watching the YouTube channel right now, you could see Danny G's diligent. His wipe's down his chair with Clark's wipes. You think J Stoos got like remnants all over him or something? I don't know. There's been at least 20 hours of acid and over here that I'm not aware of. Right. He sprays it. Oh, Danny G does a diligent cleanup. I don't blame him to be out of it. It grosses me out when people sit on dirty chairs. Yeah, it's not a personal thing towards J Stoos. I got to smell that stuff every day. Yeah, it's very German. It's a spray. It's not the feeling of sitting on a warm toilet. Is it? Is that how you feel? That's always a weird feeling, right? Like someone else is ass warmth. Anyway, before we get into a wild weekend, we've got to talk about the wild world of Shilbuff and who he hates in the sports world, a lot going on this weekend. As far as the world news and politics and bombs being dropped, I mean, the news was kind

10:22of let's just say wild to watch the weekend, but maybe you were out there living your life and you didn't see any of this. Then there was the Jim Carrey story we're going to talk about later on, of course, a hypothetical that a star. Sure. I think this is a good one for you. All right. This year because I don't know anyone hyping up the world baseball classic like you. You love a good fight and you love baseball. Dude, am I the only guy that watched Navarrette fight this weekend? I might be. You're seeing Paul Schien's and Scoobull getting nods on the hill right now. We're watching on one of the TV's Bryce Harper's being interviewed. It's a squad. I know your pumped team USA looks, honestly, you're a nerd. And Dr. Su's coin that phrase, they're not sure if he invented it, but he definitely popularized the term nerd. You're a nerd. If you don't care about the WBC or boxing this weekend, Navarrette over Nunez, like I'm really wondering, what are you watching then?

11:23What are you so focused on? Look, I like love his blind. I love some trash TV. I watched traitors. I watch all of you. You're too cool to watch the world baseball classic. I'm sorry. I'm not too cool to watch a really great hockey tournament. Hockey's not my favorite, but I'm not saying no, I'm not watching that. I got some put it on. You're lame. Honestly, if you're not watching the WBC world baseball classic, that's so perfect. Do you even you leaned into it more than I even had hoped because I don't understand how could you call yourself a sports fan and not be like pumped about it? All right. What if here's the hypothetical in order for team USA to win, you have to give up five Yankee wins this year. You taking the deal? Five wins can be the difference of 98 and 93. It could be 85 to 98. They might not put you in the playoffs. It could be 100 wins versus that. I don't know. I didn't then what's your number? What if I said three? Three wins. Yeah.

12:24Sacrifice three Yankee wins. You got Garakull coming back. Garakull. You got freed. You got a pretty solid solid starting five. Then you sacrifice three. You sacrifice three Dodgers wins. I'll give you seven Dodger W. I think you got seven. Seven is spared. Because I think your second place team. And here's why. I think you got to ride. I call it riding the burst, ride the wave, riding the momentum, whatever you want to call it. You know, you got to keep that Olympic juice going. You say that, that, that, that, that, that some ball should be by that everybody can get behind. And Aaron judge actually alluded to that. Speaking of McAfee, he talked to McAfee and McAfee was like, oh, man, we're just trying to keep that, that vibe going, even though it was $420 a USA jersey if you're trying to get one. Um, and that's a story in itself. Yeah. It's a story to self. You won't even get it, I think, until after the tournament, which is weird. And I'm, I'm a fan. I think they look cool, but, but you try to keep that pride going. And I think USA needs that pride, especially now, I think we need to be unified.

13:25And is this America's game or not? Because guess what, Japan is the only one with three victories. Japan has three victories. The DR has a victory and we only have one. So I think it's time that we step it up. We put our best out there. We have a squad support him. I think it's, I think it's dope. I super dope and underrated Aaron judge hits the walkoff in the world baseball classic. Yeah. But, but the Yankees, you're giving up five, not five. No, I won't do five. Five is too tricky. That's a divisional. And I think the AL East is too stacked and it's too competitive. Three might take it from three could take it from 92 wins to 89. Three, I'll take though for a nice win for the country for, for some pride, for some. I don't know, something to unify us. Yeah, I thought the hockey thing would do that, but no, but you know, but just sports babies. Aaron judge hits the walkoff USA wins. But he aggravates his hammy and he out for two weeks. Oh, no, not worth it. No, US pride. No, hammy two weeks. Is that a little tweak now?

14:26Okay, not yet. It's gonna be fun though, meaning this is the sixth world baseball classic. We've seen it grow. It's going to be fun, but I'm not giving up some sort of injury for it, right? Not right now. And that's bad publicity for the WBC. That's his biggest criticism. Well, I'm hoping that you don't want to start playing to get hurt. I'm hoping that schemes gets a little tired in the world baseball classic. It's my met's play the Pirates opening day. And you would think, whoa, what a sweet opening day opponent, the pirates, but it's Paul schemes. So the met's got to play on opening day against Paul schemes. As I was saying, you had lots of crazy world news, which is why we need some, like I said, something to cheer about. Let's go team USA. That starts this week. You had this Jim Carrey story. We'll explain. It's all over social media in a nutshell. He looks different and the world can't handle it. They think it's all aging.

15:27Yeah. And then the other story. If you were busy living life, I get it. You may have missed it is Shyla Buff was interviewed over the weekend. If you guys remember, he was arrested at Marty Graf for part in and getting belligerent and he was headbuttoned people fighting in the streets. He was arrested and then he did a sit down on like the local channel five affiliate over the weekend and he was interviewed by this guy named Andrew Callahan, who did such a tremendous job. Honestly, it felt like a bar stool style of interview, but he did such a great job of letting Shyla Buff just rant the way and answer these questions. He almost said too much at times, but much like Mike Tyson, I love his vulnerability. You know, Mike Tyson, I'm like, I'm just not a good person and deep down. I'm an, you know, deep down. I'm an animal, you know, like you just say weird things like that. That's how Shyla Buff is. He knows he's imperfect. He's very vulnerable. He says crazy things. And he said lots of crazy stuff that you could check out on your own time.

16:27He went on about how he doesn't think he has a drinking problem. He thinks he has a small man complex, like an appolian problem. Then he said he has nothing against gay people, but he's scared of big gay guys touching him. Like that was just the tip of the eye. I mean, he's, he's as far as intrigue and interest. The guy just brings all sorts of interesting storylines. What's up, I was so Andrew Callahan, I follow him. Channel five is like, it's a fictional. It's the name of his show. So it's not a local news. He's, he's fantastic. Yeah, he does all these wild interviews with all these various people. And his, he gets a lot of views on YouTube. This one has two million in just two days. Well, I'm glad he said that because I'm like, he's wearing a suit. He's got sneakers on right. He's got the wild hair. He just, he's like this, I don't know. You just independent and trepid journalists, I guess, but he just does. He's all these really interesting, I looked at stuff and I'm like, this is a great broadcast. They're ready to look at all the other others, some of his other stuff. But it's like, like I said, it was done almost like bar stool style, but it was a serious interview.

17:27And you're like, oh, okay, this is legit. And Shylebuff just goes on his crazy rants. And I find them to be extremely, let's just say the same way I find Mike Tyson, I'm like intriguing, interesting. Like wow, I watch this guy talk all day because I think I don't think he's dangerous. I think maybe to himself a little bit, I think that I think he needs help, but maybe it isn't alcohol. Maybe he just needs some like therapy or something, but well, alcohol mix with drama is a bad recipe for why he was in jail, right? But this Shylebuff interview really is like every sentence out of his mouth. It is very like Mike Tyson, very Dennis Rodman, very horrible. Charlie Sheen, very like, yo, what is he going to say in crazy honest, right? And there was a story he was telling about when he was a kid, he was part of the big brother program because his dad was always, you know, locked up or abusing that. I mean, that's part of a story, right? I mean, abusing and doing things like that. So he said that as part of the big brother program,

18:27he would get these tickets to all these Dodgers games. And he has some crazy, crazy resentment toward one particular Dodger. And I get it. If you were busy, you missed it, but you got to hear what he said about former Dodger. Should I give it away? Yeah, this is a take a listen. Take a listen to Shylebuff. And we're trying to get Mike Piazza's autograph. You know what I mean? For my whole life, Mike Piazza were you waiting outside the fence day? This guy, bro. Well, it's so yeah, we used to go to Dodger games. Big brother's program used to give these tickets out. You go Dodger game. Me and all of them dudes would be sitting in the parking lot. Brent Butler always signed. Padeo no more always signed. Mike Piazza. Just a cold heart. Mike Piazza, you're a **** bro. How many times do you think he rejected signing that? Every day, bro, I did it for, I used to go out there 90 times, probably rejected me 90 times. So what it did was, oh, I'm going to sign them all. So when I got on it was like, yo, Mike Piazza. You know, who else has a similar story? George Lopez, his famous story was when he was a kid, he saw Eric Astrada on

19:31chips. He saw Eric Astrada as like, yo, that's a dude, that's a dude who looks like me. He's doing big things and he was inspiring to a George Lopez, right? Cause I do believe representation matters. And you see something like that. You're like, all right. It gives you hope like I could do that. I could be that and he went and saw Eric Astrada filming in his neighborhood and he went to shake his hand. Eric Astrada blew him off and that's why he started that sort of F you to he would have a whole arena full of people saying F you, Eric Astrada, once he blew up, but Shia LeBuff said when he blew up, because of the Mike Piazza thing, he vowed to never blow off a kid and he's always taking pictures unless, of course, he's eating dinner. No, his coat was his coat was the best. He goes, I'll sign it on a graph. This is why Shia LeBuff is so interesting. I'll always sign for a kid unless he said, I'm eating dinner, I'm with my kid or I'm chasing ass. That was his answer. He talks a lot about chasing booty on this interview, it's hilarious, but it brought

20:34the question for all of us. Is there a pro athlete? You have an irrational hate for like, listen, because you know what it is, a lot of times you might catch someone on a bed day, you have it 90 times Piazza blew him off like 90 times as the kiddo say, that wasn't on my bingo card. Shia LeBuff having a vendetta against Mike Piazza was not predicted by me at least. No, no, but it was so funny and so at a left field or should I say, so at a home plate, you know, that I was like, oh my God, it's so funny. This is comedy without even trying to be funny. Calling Piazza beach was not on my radar. That to me. And he's saying FU Piazza, it's so funny. This is like angels in the outfield without the magic and the happy ending. It's like, remember how the movie starts like there aren't they sneaking into baseball games and trying to get guys autographs. Hey, look, he used to be a male Clark, um, yeah, it's a great question. Like, international sort of hatred because you're right. For all we know, and I've met Piazza, I've interviewed him.

21:37He comes from a great family. He's a great dude. He has a great story. He's a guy that was never supposed to make it, right? He could have been like a Dr. Susan gave up, but I didn't. I remember one time and it's a weird move too. And she don't like to do those like phone calls, like guess who I'm with. But Kavino hosted an event once and he hit me up. He's like, guess who I'm with. And it's like, yo, what's up, Rich? It's Mike Piazza. I'm sure not here. They might be awesome. He couldn't have been a nicer guy. Yeah. And he was very nice to everybody I saw him interact with. But that's my experience. Everybody has a different one, right? Um, do you have an irrational hatred towards somebody and why? Let's get it off our chest. Yeah, I clearly, clearly shy of above how to get that off his chest this weekend. You know, people will always ask us the common question. He's like, who are your favorite guests? Who are the worst? And I have a couple worst and they're weird ones too, right? Like Molly Ringwald. We had Molly Ringwald on the show. And we were like, Oh, it was a throwback. Well, like we'll do a throwback. There's they talk some old movies to see what's going on in her life now.

22:38Her and a rep were both like, yeah, she's not talking about anything prior to like today. And I'm like, I like then she was one of those that didn't embrace the past and didn't want to talk about anything like that. So I remember being like, this is the worst and you're the worst. And then there's other actors who are known for, let's say, one part of their life and they accept that part graciously. Even though it's probably annoying to them, they still accept it. She was not willing to talk about 16 candles or breakfast club or pretty in pink or any of that. And I remember thinking like, then why would I want to talk to you? Right. And you know, yes, you know, it wasn't even that. It was how it was handled. That was in a really kind of way. I'll give you the other one. No, I don't hate her in any way. I'm trying to think rich, which really hates. I'm just thinking of people I have in a rational like dislike for Colin Kaepernick. Nothing to do with the kneeling, nothing to do with his politics. I'm a Niners fan. I met Colin Kaepernick in a VIP area at an ESPN party when we were working there.

23:41He was not distracted. He was not with his boys with his crew. He was by himself. And Kavino knows I got a back rich up on this. Kavino loved to make fun of him. Yeah. He was by himself just like looking at his phone, like just killing time waiting. I think for someone I go, yo, Kaep, my name's Rich, big Niners fan. I work at ESPN and he just like was like, yeah, yeah, I go, yo, can we take a quick pick? And he's like, nah, I'm not doing that by. And he just walked away from me. But he was playing slap-ass and being cool with everybody else. Yeah, I was like, and then at that point, I was like, in your career, all that was suck. And I was like, yeah, I remember what he was wearing. He was wearing like a leather trench coat. And he was being super smiles and fun with all the hot women that were walking by. And everybody else, but he did blow off Rich and Rich couldn't have been a bigger fan in support. Rich had his jersey. Yeah, I remember. So yeah, that hurts. That's things. I remember being like, yeah, this guy and you're a grown man at the time. So imagine how a kid feels when you're just trying to meet your hero. So irrational hatred. As we already said, it's irrational, you know, but I'm sure you got your reasons.

24:42So eight, seven, seven, ninety nine on Fox. Much like Shaila Buff, who says therapy's just not for him. Yes, CJ Stroud. Maybe day for Danny. Did he just need to get it off your chest? That's all we said, did he get it off your chest? Mine's more recent. It was after Stroud's great rookie season. And we're on media row at the Super Bowl. And he's standing now just beyond our stage area with his buddies. And they were all wearing their dark sunglasses indoors and their big chains and they were blingin' and I walked up to him and I didn't do the whole fan thing. None of that. I kept my words short and sweet and I just said, Hey, we talk about you a lot on our radio show. We're right over there. And I pointed to the FSR stage, which was beautiful. Like it is every year. It's not some small time of peanut thing. Or this is Fox Sports. He looks at one of his boys and then he looks back at me and he just had this. I don't know. It was something in his demeanor that was off putting and he blew me off. And I was like, OK, whatever, fine. But you've seen what happened to his career since then.

25:43Yeah, I'm saying that in front of you. If you mess with someone on the show clearly, I'm seeing a pattern. Yeah, and he needs to redeem himself. I feel like he'll go back to his rookie form if he goes on the Kovino and Rich show. You know, and we can use it. And you say to him, your next playoff performance is going to be the worst ever, ever. Joe, man, I jinx you for the next. You play off performances. I jinx your playoff. It's fine. And if you don't want to go on a radio or TV show, you can just say, no, I don't have time. Right now or whatever that would have been fine, but just the way he acted. I was like, yeah, I don't know about the stories of life. You give people two strikes, you know, not necessarily three, like three strikes. Because you got to say, sometimes you have a bad day. We all have, we all have bad day. No, that's more than fair, right? So you got someone to earn a rush. Maybe they're in a rush, Rich. I saw your buddy, our buddy, torch at the gym. The other day yesterday, I was in a rush. He wanted to sit and chit chat. You know, that would be the equivalent of taking a selfie and sign an order. Yeah, I got to go, man. I'm like, yo, dude, I got to go. And I sort of blew him off and I felt bad about it.

26:45But again, he caught me at the wrong, I don't got time to chit chat. I'm on the move, you know, like a guy. So that's why I'm saying you got to give people some grace. Sometimes maybe they're in a rush, maybe they had a bad day. Maybe they just got bad news, right? We know that you give him another chance. I think you give him second chances. Third chances in this particular sort of thing. I don't know about that. Two times a jerk. I don't know. Mike Piazza. For all we know, maybe he's so shy of above. And he said, this punk, he's been here 90 days. This kid, he's no good. I'll never give it up. I'll never. Yeah, your thoughts will take your feedback. Could you have an irrational hate for it? But these clips went completely viral. And one of the funnier stories was how angry Shyla Buff is toward, of all, people, Mike Piazza. I remember trying to get Mike Piazza's autograph. You know what I mean? For my whole life, Mike Piazza. Were you waiting outside the fence?

35:59Every day this guy, bro. So yeah, we used to go to Dodger Games, Big Brothers program used to give these tickets out. You go Dodger Games. Me and all of them dudes would be sitting in the parking lot. Brent Butler always signed. Hideo Nomo always signed. Mike Piazza. Just a cold heart. Mike Piazza, you're a bro. I love it. How many times do you think he rejected signing out? Every day, bro. I did it for, I used to go out there 90 times, probably. Rejecting me 90 times. So what it did was, I'm going to sign them all. So when I got on, it was like, yo, Mike Piazza. Those stories are great though, because you learn a lesson. And Mike Piazza and stories like this, they never think that the kid they snubbed is going to make it this far in life where they'll get called. I always find those stories funny when someone does blow up. Remember those things along the way. There's a funny one that's not like a ventral one. Do you guys know the Eddie Murphy, Rodney Dagerfield story? I don't get to tell them he wasn't funny, right? Rodney Dangerfield early on in Eddie Murphy's career is like, Hey, kid, you don't got to curse so much. It's not good.

37:00No, like, you're act terrible. And then Eddie Murphy was like at his prime in the 80s and bumped into Rodney Dangerfield in a bathroom. And he just looked at me and goes, hey, I guess I was wrong. Like a very simple funny story that we've heard over the years. All right. So based on the silent buff, I mean, trauma that he still holds and angry still holds towards Mike Piazza. Do you have an irrational hatred towards somebody who is going to be the genius? It's like, go up to him with my little autograph, Pat's head. Yeah. And I go, hey, can I have your autograph?

42:08And he's literally looking down at me. And I go, he goes, yeah, what's my name? And I go, uh, Matt and Dwayne, who's a really good linebacker for the Vikings back then. We both burst out laughing. And, uh, not him. No, it was not him. We continue. Okay. Well, you know what, hold on. This is the longest story ever. We're going to teach you.
