Hey. Glory! Glory. Welcome to the week two edition of Buy or Sell on Tech Sightline as we take a look at the upcoming matchup between Virginia Tech and old Dominion. Thank you to Annelie Stewart for sponsoring this week's Buy or Sell. I'm Riley Clouds, and today I'm joined to my left, by Chris Coleman, Crosse Away will steward to my right Andy Bitter, and Behind the Scenes, Nick Brown is producing this show, as always. If you're new to buy yourself on tech sideline, it's a weekly series in which we always come up with five different lines for the upcoming Virginia Tech football game. You can predict that they will happen by saying buy or sell saying it won't happen. And this year it's extra special. You the fans can participate online and we're keeping track of the leaderboard to see how everyone's doing. I'll be bringing up the standings momentarily here. So as we jump into this week two, let's first talk about what happened in our first week one buy or sell against VMI.

Virginia Tech did indeed score eight plus touchdowns. They put up 73 points in the game. So that one ended up with by being the successful pick. A immediate regret of my pick last week. Immediate regret. Then VMI only scored three points. So everyone was able to get that one correct as they only scored the three, which was under the eight plus that they needed. That was dicey for like a player to at the end where they hit a big pass. He got down to close to the end zone. They I think they actually threw one into the end zone. They got knocked down. It's just like yes, we were in the press box watches like, whoo, that was close. It's a close one line number three Virginia Tech did have 10 plus players catch a pass. Oh man. I didn't think tech would throw it as much as they did. That James Franklin man. I cut the road. I'm happy to miss that one. Yeah, kept it going in that second half. VMI did indeed find 20 plus pass. Yeah, rather early to they hit third. They got the 30 passing yards and like it's going to be tough to lose on that one at this

point. Like Zachary don't count against them. So yeah, that was a pretty comfortable one. Surprisingly, because I thought that was going to be iffy. And lastly, the fascinating one here. The line was five plus players throw a pass attempt a pass. There were five quarterbacks that played in the game, but only for attempt to the pass. If you would have told me only three three quarterbacks played for one team and it was not Virginia Tech would have been shocked. I would I thought all four would have played for Virginia Tech and I assumed they would have thrown a pass. I thought that was going to be the easiest one of the week and sure enough, if you were contrary to that of the people, I said you can go against the grain. Maybe you could pick up a game and three quarterbacks for VMI through a pass and they're first week. Yeah, right. Two of them went for negative yards. Correct. But it still counts. But they tried to do the same in this game, but their last guy didn't get the pass off. Yeah, I think he got sack three or four times or something like that. I don't remember the box score. So as a staff here, everyone that was on the show went three for five, Chris went two for

five. And then when we go to the fans, there were 34 fans this week that went five for five in the picks, which is incredible. That's just 2% of the people that voted. We had over 1400 entrants. And remember at the end of the season, you want to participate every week. You got to have at least 80% participation to be at the top of that leaderboard. 80% participation on 80% correct. Yes. That would be very tough. If you got 80% correct, go to Vegas, man. Absolutely. You're locked in here. So put in your picks every week. You'll have the chance to do so until the game kicks off. And with all that being said, let's jump into this week's buy or sell lines for the game but against old dominion. Line number one, Quinn Hanukkah, which is the old dominion quarterback, has 10 plus Russia Tempts. Yeah, I'm buying this one. They're a run heavy team. He out over 10 attempts last week plus a few factor in any potential sacks. Of course, that counts on that. I think old dominion will try to run it a lot because that's more of a strength for

them than the passing game anyway, but also to attempt to shorten the game. For us straight for junior tech. For me, that's a buy. Yeah, 13 Russian attempts and the opener historically OD who has rushed their quarterbacks. And like Chris said, the sacks those count. If you get a sack, that's a Russia Tempt 10. I think you should get there easily. But was that your intent Nick? Nick sets the lines. It wasn't your intent that sacks count as rushes. Yes. I just figured it out. That's all that's all that's all you got to do with the game here. No, I agree. Yeah, no, I, of course indeed count of those. So yeah, I just, the only reason why I jumped ahead here, the only reason why I jumped out like 21 nothing in the first quarter, then, you know, that, that, that one might be up for use the count. Yeah, exactly. I think also part of this strategy could be they tried to slow things down and you know, keep the clock moving, try to run. Yeah, if there's going to be run base, the quarterbacks going to be part of that. Yeah, and get hurt and then he's not going to get to it either. I bought it because they had 42 Russian. Yeah, I think that's a lot of the things that I'm going to have to do with the game.

I think it's a lot of things that I'm going to have to do with the game. He's not going to get to it either. I bought it because they had 42 Russia against Norfolk State and 13. I'm from Hennickel. So I bought it. I'm kind of rolling the dice and selling as well with Nick there. I think that is a pretty good line in terms of what it is. Obviously, like you guys said, he did do it last week. So we'll see how it goes. David is buying that one as well. So split across the board. And now let's go to line number two, which is that the Virginia Tech defense has eight plus tackles for loss. And that's coming off of a week where they broke the record last week. I bought it and not necessarily because tech had 18 against VMI, but because old dominion allowed seven against Norfolk State. Their offensive line seems to be a mess right now. And anybody who watched their game last week, they all kind of seem to draw the same conclusion that their offensive line is kind of their Achilles heel. So I think there will be eight plus tackles for loss partly because I think they're going to run it so much there'll be more opportunities for tackles for. Yeah. Logically, you probably would think that number is pretty high and tough to get, but new

align trying to, you know, gel early in the season and the way tech played last week, I know the opponent, but they were just active. They had a lot of guys rotating in the game, a lot of guys playing in the back field coming from different areas. It wasn't like, you know, APR had four sacks or something like that. Like everybody was contributing to that. I think that makes them a lot more likely to rack up a lot of TFLs in a game like this. I bought it. I think that Odea only ran about 55 plays against Northfolk state and they gave up seven TFLs. That's a pretty high percentage against a, a not great team. So if they get up into the range of 60 to 65 plays, which is normal for a college football game and Virginia tech, Virginia tech has a much better defense. So I'm buying it. Well, Nick, what do you have for this one? Rockin' with. Buy. I'm just saying for Gini Tech, D-Fed, of course, like Andy said, it's VMI, but the D-Line looked dominant. And like Chris said, I also predict that since there could be running the ball a whole

lot, Gini Tech's D-Fed will be able to push him back a yard or two and that counts all the same. Well, I'm going to go against the grain with David and sell it. I think it is a larger number and obviously a different game than it was last year, but Virginia tech wasn't close against Odea in the last matchup, but a lot different this year going into this game. So we'll see how that one goes. A lot of momentum riding for the Virginia tech defense. And next, let's go to some special teams action by or sell that the longest field goal attempt and this is from either team is 37 plus yards. This seems like such a random question. I sold it because my score prediction is 31 to 14. So I only have one field goal being made. So maybe that's the only one that's attempted. Maybe it's not. It's just seems so random to me that I've just kind of flipped a coin and said sell. So you don't think go to use getting to 14 with four field goals in the safety. If they do, boy, that you should get a special reward for just for even suggesting that.

I bought this one. I feel like every time Nick does a field goals one, I get it wrong every single time with his like, oh, John love will make three field goals. I'm like, that seems pretty reasonable for John love. He's good and then doesn't play out that way. This one just sort of chance of where you stall out on the field. I think there'll be a little more resistance on the other side this week in Virginia Tech might kick more field goals and odds are one is longer than 37. That's not that far. That means you're at the 20 when you stall out and you're lining up. So I think yes, it happens. So I bought it. I bought it because it just seems like an oddly low number and I did zero research and bought it. So Nick, I think we're getting ready to throw it over to you. How did you come up with that number? The O.D.U. kicker does not kick 40 plus yard field goals. Of course, I know John love does, but I predict a Virginia Tech is going to get it deeper into the red zone. If they get stopped, it'll probably be like the 14 yard line. His longest career field goal made is 37 yards.

Correct. So one of the teams will likely not be trying longer field. Yeah, that's you forget though that every opposing kicker seems to make his longest field goal last week. Last week. Last week that would have been good. You see, like you said, Andy drilled that. Yes, he did. That was like a can. Like in my mind, I could just always think back to like that Liberty kicker in 2020. He's never made anything and he drills this 56 yard. I think it was 56 yards on that one. Like it just the opposing kickers always seem to have a pretty good game in lane stadium. Wasn't there a season recently where opposing kickers were just like insane high conversion risk. And I see this. And of course, there have been games and opposing kickers have been awful. I mean, the cow guy last year was the reason that game even went to double overtime in the first place. But I'm like a coach. I remember the ones that go against this thing. So maybe I'll be stung by by yourself on this one by it. Well, I'm going to buy as well. And so is David. So Chris will be against the grain there. I think what's interesting in this line, of course, is attempt doesn't need to be a make either side for that to hit.

Well, we've got two more lines for you. But before that, let's hear from our sponsor, Annelie Stewart. You graduated from Virginia Tech years ago. You let Blacksburg in built a good life and a good career, but you've always dreamed about returning to the new River Valley. If you're ready for that life, changing move, ready to look for a home in Blacksburg or the surrounding area, contact Annelie Stewart of remax 8 in Blacksburg. You've waited long enough. It's time to come back home. Visit anneliestore.remax.com to get started on your journey back to your roots. All right. Well, now let's go to line number four by yourself that Virginia Tech scores two plus times in the first quarter gets off to a good start. I sold it because I have a lot of respect for the old dominion defense. They return plenty of experience on set on that side of the ball.

They can be confusing with their speed and how they align and their unique scheme. I think it's going to take a little while on this game for Virginia Tech's offense to adjust to that and ramp up. Once they do, I think they'll play well, but I think it'll be a little bit of a star form. This is another one where I think if you look at it logically, you'd probably say sell. You look at the last couple of years, I think it's only happened three and four times of all the games they played the last couple of years. I bought this one, maybe just kind of feeling the momentum of the opener and they carry that into this one. I don't know. They were pretty sharp operations wise last week. So I bought this one. I don't know if I necessarily believe it, but sometimes you got to go against your thoughts when you're picking these. So it's interesting. So far into you are buy, buy, buy, buy. I was buy, buy, buy. And I'm like, dude, you got to sell one. You should just sell this one. And no particular logic to it. I just didn't want to push buy on every single peg. Nick, what do you got for this one? I bought it, but boy, I, I, I originally put sell and then I talked myself out about

five minutes later, just thinking about it and I was like, oh, I'll just put buy. But I was thinking the exact same thing that Chris said earlier, just slow start, especially if it's raining. I don't know. I don't feel I really put on Saturday and a full dominion runs the ball and slows the game down. Tech may have the ball for only one and a half possessions in the first half or the first quarter. So I am really not confident. A lot will write on the coin flip on this one. Right. Yeah, they're going to get two full possessions on this. That definitely could determine it right there as I'm going to buy it. So is David, but we're kind of splitting on that one. And as we round out, we have line number five, any old dominion, miscue on a punt. Now Nick, this includes multiple things that could happen. Yes, this could be a blocked old dominion punt, old dominion can moth a punt return. The snap could go over their head, Virginia Tech could tackle the punter. Say if he fakes it, I don't know. I'm not going to include fake.

What if say because W here's what I've said the long snapper like throws a grounder back to the punter, but he fields it cleanly and gets the punter off. Would that be considered a miscue? Ooh, anything that is not a hundred percent clean. Yeah, I think. Yeah. And fake punts are excluded. Fake punts, that's obviously a shame. Punts? No, that can't happen. No, that can happen. It's the operation. Anything with the operation. What if a bad snap leads to the shame punts? Well, that's what if it's a bad snap, and it's already counted. I want to hash this all out ahead of time for the fans. For the fans. For the fans. For the fans. For the voting. We need our, you know, we might have to bring in an arbitration committee to sell this one on Monday. All right. So we're going. Yeah. I sold it because it just seems random. So out of tech block too last week, maybe the may be great if they could do it again, but uh, generally you get through a game clean on things like that, not always, but uh, I'm selling. Uh, I sold this one. Uh, maybe you did either team something happens because Lord knows a bad snap is a

curve. Well, I guess it wasn't a punter. It was a field goal. A couple years ago, we had that keystone cops play down the Norfolk. But, uh, I sold this one just because, you know, they blocked two last week, but again, that was VMI. I mean, they just completely overwhelmed the protection scheme. I, it felt like four guys could have blocked each of those parts. That's typically not where you're going to get in an FPS game. Uh, so I sold it. Um, and maybe the, you know, from the first week where, you know, ODU saw so much, uh, pressure on these things. Maybe tech goes the opposite way. And this one's like, oh, we're going to set up the returns this time. Uh, I don't know. Maybe this might be a strategy they have, but I sold it. I, uh, I was going to sell it and then I veered at the last moment and bought it. And, and as with many of my picks, no, no particular reason, just gut feel. Nick, what do you have for this one? I bought it. I'm really hoping that it rains, not for the fans and not going as fans. So I don't want to ruin everybody's experience. I really want this pick to go right.

Uh, I think it's a good idea. I'm going to be able to do it. I'm going to be able to do it. I think it'd be, uh, it's just a nice momentum boost to Vrg attack, whatever something like this happens. And like I said, if it rains, bad steps, bobbled snaps, muffed punts, they're more likely. So that's the only reasoning to why I hope it rains. This is a fun one because every puntsnap is going to be like, I can't see my one is going to happen on this thing. Uh, text going to block a plant. I'm going to be like, oh, man, it can go like that. And if it doesn't happen the first three and a half quarters, they can be punched into the very end of like a game that the score doesn't matter. And I'm like, oh my gosh, what's going to happen? It's so weird because when VMI completed their second pass to go over 20 yards last week, I grabbed Carter Hill. I was like, yes, over 20 yards. It was the only time I've ever cheered when the opponent did something in my stadium. It's because of the stupid game. There's no cheering in the press box. But I'm just silently giving a fist pump. I like the variety of our picks this week. They're kind of all over the place. This is like shake up Saturday and week two.

That's right. Yeah, for that last one, I'm selling and David is in Chris. I think you're right. None of us have the exact same spread this week, which should make it really fun. Separation. And as a reminder, you yourself can participate in this as well. Maybe you could go five for five and be all of us on this set right here. So best of luck to you if you participate. Get your picks in before the kickoff on Saturday. Well, this has been another edition of Buy or Sell. We greatly appreciate you watching this one. And we'll see you again next week.
