The damage includes a cracked photo of Maryfield on the headstone, now covered in red and white tape, along with a split running through the inscription. Fans have rallied quickly, with the Only Fools and Horses Appreciation Society starting a crowd funder to replace the headstone entirely. Maryfield joined the show in 1985, stepping in after the original granddad character passed away, and stayed until 19, 96, delighting viewers with his naval tails. He had a long banking career after serving in World War II, only breaking into acting in his 60s, and passed away in 1999 at age, 78 from a brain tumor, buried beside his wife of 57 years. The fundraising effort is gaining strong support from fans, eager to honor his legacy.
