Browns Sign Zion Johnson: Revamping Offensive Line

Just days after trading for right tackle tight as Howard, they have agreed to terms with veteran guard Zion Johnson on a 3-year deal worth $49.5 million, including $32.4 million fully guaranteed. This move kicks off their free agency push as the new league year starts Wednesday. Johnson, a former first round pick out of the Los Angeles Chargers, brings youth and athleticism to the mix. Browns consultant Tom Telesco actually drafted him back in 2022 so the team knows his work ethic well. At 25 years old, he's durable too, missing just two games over four NFL seasons. This signing comes as long-time left guard, Joel Baitonio, Ways Retirement after 12 seasons in Cleveland. The Browns have stayed in touch and even had new head coach Todd Monkin pitch him to return, but grabbing a starter level guard first thing suggests. They might be moving on from the veteran.

He's a solid bridge player with upside. As the Browns lock in these pieces, they're clearly prioritizing trench warfare to protect their quarterback and boost the run game heading into next season.
