Browns Sign DB Myles Bryant, Boost Secondary & Special Teams

They just signed defensive back Miles Bryan off the Houston Texans roster to an undisclosed deal. A few weeks back, they added safety, Daniel Thomas, Resign Corners, DeAngelo Ross, and Trey Avery, and Tendert's starting safety, Ronnie Hickman. Bryan's a six-year vet who spent four seasons with the New England Patriots before two, with the Texans. In his last two years, he played 22 games with three starts, racking up 54 tackles total, plus some special teams work. With the Pats, he appeared in 55 games, started 17, and notched 200 tackles, four picks, and solid coverage numbers. Fans and analysts see this as a direct hit at Cleveland's depth issues, especially after no plans to bring back corner, Martin Emerson Jr. following. His torn Achilles last season, the secondary has been thin, and special teams rank near the bottom, giving up three return touchdowns and poor coverage on punts.

1:00Bryan could slide right into the nickel corner spot, battling guys like Ross and Miles Harden, or back-up injury-prone Denzel Ward. But his bread and butter is special teams, where new coordinator Byron Store needs vets to fix last year's mess on kickoffs and punts. On top of that, the Browns locked in six-tended free agents, Monday tight-end Brendan Bates, why receivers Malachi Corley and Jamari Thresh, linebacker Winston Reed, long snapper Rex Sunahara, and kicker Andre Simt. These additions should stabilize the roster heading into camp.
