Broncos Lose Coach, Miami Gains Running Backs Coach

0:00On February 26th, the Denver Broncos just lost a key member of Sean Payton's coaching staff. Offensive quality control coach, Fabian Upshaw is heading to the University of Miami to become their running backs coach ahead of the 2026 season. Upshaw joined the Broncos in 2023 when Payton took over as head coach. A former college quarterback, he worked closely with running backs coach Lou Iyini for three years. He's credited with helping develop undrafted free agent, Jalil McLaughlin, who put up solid numbers in his first two seasons with over 900. Rushing yards and strong receiving stats. Last year, McLaughlin led Broncos' rushers in yards per carry, despite injuries up front. This move fits into a busy offseason for Payton, who's seen several assistants leave or get let go, including Jim Leighenhard and Pete Carmichael.
