British Indian Worker Wins Racism Case Against Network Rail

0:00On April 8th, a British Indian track worker named Parmjeet Basi just won a big race harassment case against network rail after co-workers targeted him with hate material. Even though he's not Muslim, they stuck an English defense league leaflet in his locker questioning what folks were doing to shield kids from Islam. The employment tribunal caught his straight-up racism, lumping him in with his ethnic group, and now he's set for compensation. This went down back in November 2018 at the Easily Depot in Hampshire, where Basi had worked since 1999. He found the leaflet in his boots inside the locker, and management basically shrugged it off with a laissez-faire vibe. Basi was shot, nobody investigated, feeling isolated from his team. Then, right after he took some leave and came back in January 2019, it happened again. Two newspapers with a violent headline and a note, saying it was Parm, one even with a knife nearby. He felt bullied and unwelcome, which the tribunal said was totally justified.

1:02Basi got shuffled around departments but kept struggling, leading to his dismissal in April 2021. He appealed, lost that, then sued over harassment and unfair firing, both claims stuck. The judge slammed network rail for weak management that empowered the bullies, doing nothing when races couldn't be pinned down.
