Welcome back to Colts to Consciousness. My name is Shalice Ansola, and this is another episode of Coltsy News. Unfortunately, as I mentioned on Instagram, it's news that I wish didn't happen, so we didn't have to cover it, but we do need to cover it. It is important to talk about and get out there. So joining us today, giving us the full scoop, Eric from Preacher Boys Podcast. Thank you so much for being here. Yeah. Thank you so much for having me. Yes, I just start with a huge sigh, because it's so unfortunate what's going on.
This is the second predator from the family, 19 kids and counting. If anyone watched that show, the Duggers on TLC, we've had on Amy Dugger, and we've talked a little bit about this. Josh initially went to prison, and we'll talk about more of his charges, but it's just been uncovered that Josh has basically confessed to doing something similar. Let's get into the details. If you guys have questions as we go along, feel free to drop them in the comments. We will be mostly just commenting on the news story and giving you guys an update. So it'll be a shorter life today, but feel free to interact with us in the comments. And I'm just going to throw it to you, Eric, because you're the expert on this. Oh, before you start. I was going to make sure and tell everybody to go follow Eric and what he's doing, especially on YouTube and his Instagram. He is always on top of the news. Unfortunately, there are so many stories of predators coming out in these insular spaces.
These fundamentalist Christian groups. And it needs to be talked about. It needs to be exposed. So if you want to stay in the loop, make sure you go follow him. The links are on the description. Okay, Eric, the floor is yours. Yeah, I appreciate that. And I echo the sigh because it's something that, you know, it was a couple of years ago. I was covering the Josh Dugger trial and arrest and everything around him, which I can go back through and give a little bit of timeline just for people that aren't too familiar with the Duggers. But yeah, I actually, it's funny to talk about being on top of the news. I had a friend who co-hosts the Leaving Eden podcast and texted me asking a question about the Duggers and then said, yeah, the story involving Joseph is crazy. And I was like, oh, I missed that. What happened? And I googled it, started finding all these things. And they had just broken about an hour since they had texted me about it. And so diving into the story, I mean, a lot of this is, it's hard to know what new to say in terms of like commentary on it.
It's just another bad situation coming out of the Ducker family. To give some timeline, I mean, most people would know that Duggers from the TLC show, 19 kids and counting, it was a jug or not TV show. Even if you weren't a fundamentalist Christian, like I was for a time, you would be aware of it. It was a massive show. It kind of made TLC the network it is today in many ways. And really the facade around this to steal the phrase from Amazon, shiny, happy family was when it was released that Josh Dugger as a teenager had, you know, essayed some of his family members. And so that was a starting point that put 19 kids and counting on pause during that time, the affair site Ashley Madison was hacked. It was revealed that Dugger had accounts on that website as well. And he admitted to having an affair at the same time. There was an adult film actress that came out and made allegations of essay against Dugger later dropped the lawsuit.
But tweeted that just because something is dropped doesn't mean that the allegations are false. And then of course, the story that most recently broke was that Josh Dugger possessed CSAM. And he's currently sitting in prison for that, he got a 20 year sentence for that. So that's everything that has happened up to this point. We could go even further back to Jim Bob's father if we want to. But in terms of like the Dugger children, Josh was the quote unquote problem child so far in the family. For those of us who grew up in Fundamentals Christianity, you know, we know the lifestyle, we know the way it can be conducive to abusive behavior, we know the way it can shelter predators. And so I think for people like myself, Ashley, I don't know if you have this as well. I wasn't surprised when I read the news, I wasn't shocked. It was more of that sigh of like, okay, another one, you know, here's another story that's following a similar pattern. So yeah, that kind of brings us to Joseph here.
I didn't know if you want to interject anything before I dive into his story. I think I just needed to correct myself, pregnancy brain. I think I may have said Josh is the one that just broke. Josh is the previous case. Joseph is the current case. And that was a great explanation. I guess I don't have any more commentary if you just want to keep telling us what happened and then we can jump in. Yeah, and I do want to just a comment that just came across the screen too because I like to say this because I work with a lot of victims of CSA. It is true. And again, I don't want to speculate regarding Joseph or Josh because I don't know. Nobody has the information on this publicly. It is true that many people who commit CSA were victims of CSA. But I do want to specify that it's not a majority of people who do experience CSA that become perpetrators. Yeah. I mean, because I think it can add a lot of stigma on people, particularly male victims
when it comes to coming forward because they don't want to be grouped into a statistic that says, okay, well, this happened to you. Now we need to be on guard around you. So I like to just mention that side of the statistic as well. What happened with Joseph Dugger, it was March 17th when Joseph Dugger was confronted by a victim's father. And then on March 18th, he was actually arrested by law enforcement. So it was a pretty quick chain of events. To go back to the beginning, the alleged CSA involving Joseph took place in 2020. He was on a family vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida. We don't know who the victim is. It's not going to speculate about who the victim is in this case, but we have enough information to know it wasn't, it very likely wasn't a sibling based on the way that's written out in the Bay County police report. So Bay County investigators received a tip on March 18th, 2026 about CSA reported by
a now 14-year-old girl. She was nine when the alleged incident occurred. And according to her, Joseph Dugger had repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap and he was touching inappropriately, was putting in a very compromised position. And shortly after, the girl said that Dugger apologized and that no further incidents took place. So what I don't know from this and what we don't know from the police statement is how long, like, was this something where he apologized right after it happened? Was it something where he came forward later when the victim was around 14? All I know is that the father for whatever reason saw a need to confront Joseph about this two days ago. So what happened in the middle of that we don't know and there's no statements from any of the Dugger family currently that I've found at least as of the time of this live. So we don't know kind of the middle pieces there.
He was arrested and he was extradited to Bay County on two counts, which you can read about. And he's been booked and mugshot released and it's going to start going through the legal process now. So that's what we know this far, like I said, I've been refreshing a bunch of the Dugger pages to see if they've commented on this and so far I haven't seen anything, but it's good to see that there was such a quick split between it actually being reported and being shut down. Right. And the fact that he confessed to it. Right. Which I do have thought on. I don't know. Yeah. Please do. This is something that reading, you know, I've read, you know, the three books, Ginger's book, Jill's book and Amy's most recent book about the Dugger family. And they all talk about these situations where there's an apology after something egregious like this and this push for forgiveness. And again, I can't read too much into the Joseph story because we have the name, we have
the events, we don't have any commentary from anyone involved. But from what I see, especially in the way that, you know, Amy and Jill in particular describe the way things like this were handled within the Dugger household. It seems like a lot of the impetus was put on victims to forgive the predator. And a lot of times, you know, I think there's a strategy there of if I come clean here, you know, it stops it here. It means we can deal with this within the home, within our community and it doesn't have to go to law enforcement, it doesn't have to go, you know, for the direction. Even when it does go to law enforcement, it seems like there's, I don't know whether to read it as just a boldness and like confidence in themselves and their influence to be able to get out of it. If it's a strategy of just, you know, trying to be likable to investigators, but they seem to be like both intentionally and unintentionally very forthcoming about what they've done.
And I think that's a really interesting thing. And I don't know. Again, it's hard not to go into like speculation mode, which I would be happy to do off mic anytime. But when it comes to this specific story, I thought it was interesting that he, you know, confessed to detectives, confessed to the dad. I mean, he kind of nailed himself into his own coffin as far as the legal process goes. Is that what Josh did to? Did he also confess pretty readily? So Josh, that's why I say unintentionally and intentionally, what's really interesting and this is publicly available online again, I'll just give a blanket trigger warning. If you start going down the rabbit hole of Josh Dugger, you're going to very quickly be reading and hearing a lot of things that you may not want to. But to keep it very surface level, you know, he was found in possession of CSAM. He was approached by investigators from Homeland Security who were investigating. And when he saw them walk on the lot to talk to him, this was before he was actually arrested.
There's no cuffs on him. There's no indication he's about to go down. He says something akin to, and again, he can listen to the recording for the exact quote. He says something akin to, hey, guys, what's going on with somebody downloading CSAM? Why? And so there's a very, and that's why I say like there's a, there's a, like when I listened to it, I was like, what is, is he really dumb? Is he wanting to indicate like he later tried to do, like he wants to pin this on somebody else? He thinks, you know, he wants to say could have done this. But there's always a really like badly covered up situation whenever there's a Dugger scandal. And it's, it's always interesting to me, like psychologically, what's going through Josh's mind and that recording, what's going through Joseph's mind when he talks to the girls dad? I mean, what's, what's the, what's the play there? And I know some people will say, maybe it's actual repentance and I just, you know, that's always the least possible, you know, factor in my mind that could be that.
I feel like there's always just an idea that they're going to slither out of it. Yeah. Well, something I remember specifically from interviewing Amy and from reading her book is that Jim Bob lied to the entire family about what was going on with Josh. So she didn't even know until she saw it on the news because she was given a completely different story. So maybe the person themselves is willing to come forward and start the repentance process as they feel they need to and as they should confess. But as far as the rest of the world, it seems like they're very willing to make up stories, cover it up and pretend it never happened and not get the person help because he actually did ask for help and they're like, oh, it's fine. Just go to this camp and he'll be fixed. And he wasn't well, that's something that I can't speak to from the former, you know, for those of you that are listening, I grew up in the independent fundamental Baptist movement, which was very friendly to the Dugger lifestyle.
So the Duggers followed the Institute and basic life principles, which you've talked about on your channel a lot. If you aren't familiar with them, go watch any happy people and I'll save you me rambling about it here. But you know, the Duggers were somebody that were a gold standard of what it looked like to be a Christian family. And the way that they handle these cases is not abnormal for fundamentalist, you know, a lot of fundamentalist conservative circles, whether that's, you know, steep Southern Baptist or independent Baptist, you know, there's a lot of people that handle these kind of situations the same way. Like you just said, Shalice, you know, here's something really troubling. It needs to be handled by law enforcement instead, we're going to send him to a recovery program, which is basically a camp where he's going to go sit in a circle and talk about his feelings and maybe dig some holes and do some hard work. And that's going to fix them. And the camp that he actually went to was a recovery program that's an independent fundamental about this program called reformers unanimous.
And so it's very common to send, you know, even predators to go be around other, quote unquote, former predators, which isn't a thing, quote unquote, former predators and go be mentored by them and go learn to be better. And then they put you right back where you were, which leads to a lot of different. Mentored by other predators, let me just make sure I heard that right. You did hear that right. Yeah. There's a clip from a well known pastor from kind of the glory days of the IFB. And he says, if you've got a predator, you need to send him to the roll off homes, which is a branch of different homes that deal with these sorts of things. And he says where he can go sit with other predators. And basically the idea where he can get restored by people who have also, you know, again, there's air quotes on a lot of what I'm saying, you know, people that have been restored can now guide them and help them. But obviously we know this doesn't work. First of all, recidivism is extremely high.
Most people that are predatory or, you know, the idea of restoring somebody is just a weird thing that kind of exists within the church culture that's not, you know, there's no psychology around that. There's no real rehabilitation process there. It's like you need to put very strict guidelines on people. And what we see happen with people like Josh is they just get put right back into the mix with kids with, you know, they're allowed to get married. Like there's a lot of just freedom given. And then we ask surprise when something else happens again. But yeah, you did, you did mention to Jim Bob Dugger, who's the father of this family, you know, when everything happened with Josh, there was so much silence around it. And I think for those that are looking to Dugger accounts for what's the statement on Joseph Dugger? What's the, what, what is everybody saying and reacting to? I would just say like the biggest similarity that I see within the way the Dugger family works and the fundamentals culture I grew up in is there is a firm belief that the church
and the home has all the tools you need to handle these situations. And so a lot of times there's a reliance on like we don't need to go to the tabloids and the press that's, you know, persecuting us, air quotes on that again. We don't need to go to the secular culture for this. Like we need to try to handle this, address this, move through this on our own. And so I wouldn't expect too big about a broad statement from them on this topic. But again, I can start ranting on this. Well, it's not even just the fundamentalist Christian circles either. There has been a huge emphasis on Mormonism lately and bishops and higher ups in the church who are actively telling bishops not to report CSA and lawsuits against the church because of that. And we also talk about the hotline for them. Yeah. Yeah. The hotline where it doesn't go to anyone who's helpful, it just goes to the church lawyers and they tell them what their legal obligations are in some case giving them wrong advice
and saying you are unable to report this abuse when that's actually just not true. It was just a state that wasn't mandated to report. But and the bishop is just a regular person and really like, what do I do with this? I'm just a regular guy. I wasn't trained in this. I was just called to be the bishop in the ward. And we've also seen it in Amish communities so many times in Amish communities because they very much say do not go outside of these boundaries to report to anyone, the English people is what they call it. And sometimes the people, actually most cases from what I've seen from our interviews, people who go to the police are often punished worse than the perpetrator themselves within the group. So this is a huge problem across the board. It's not specific to this family. It's not specific to fundamentalist Christian groups. It's a huge issue and we've also seen that not only is, does abuse happen everywhere, which we know that because a lot of people are like abuse isn't just a problem within
these groups. We know that, but the issue is more of how it's handled within these groups that creates an environment where predators thrive. So not only does abuse happen everywhere, it happens more frequently in places where there's less education for kids. There's no vocabulary or understanding of what's even going on, what's happening to them. There's no way for the victims to come forward and share open and honestly without sometimes being shamed or even blamed and gilted for the abuse saying that somehow they brought it upon themselves. And so it really just gives an environment for these predators to thrive, reoffend. Because again, like when we look at the Amish in certain settlements that we've interviewed from, they say that once someone has been through the ban or they've completed their penance, their punishment, which is usually about six weeks in most cases, then the congregation has to forget about it. And if you bring it up again, whether it's a survivor, the parent of the survivor, anybody,
if you bring it up, you're going to be punished because you have not forgiven this person. And now you're the problem. So what are we doing here? So the people just keep reoffending, they do their penance, they reoffend, they do their, it's just this cycle of abuse that continues to happen. And we see it in these families specifically where everything is so hyper controlled and everything is over sexualized, but under talked about. And no one is actually getting the help that they need, even when they're asking for it. So I don't know how people can expect something like this not to happen when it's the perfect recipe for it to these days, I'm all about quality over quantity, especially in my closet. That's honestly why I love quints. The fabrics feel elevated and the pricing actually makes sense. Quints makes high quality wardrobe staples using premium fabrics like 100% European linen and 100% silk. And I personally love their lightweight cotton cashmere sweaters, which are perfect for the changing seasons because quints works directly with safe ethical factories that cut
out the middleman, which means you're not paying for brand markup. They're consistently rated 4.5 to 5 stars by thousands of customers. So it's pretty clear people love quints, including me. When it's not you, it's care.com immediately went into not my church and not all churches are bad and not it's not what I'm saying and I'm echoing what you're talking about right now, which is that these environments
where people are, you know, over-sexualized, you know, their humanities stripped away. They're under-educated, you know, so everyone's talking about sex all the time, but also not telling you what that is, what a healthy version of that looks like, you know, when abuse cases do happen, it's swept under the rug, like, you know, when you see this happen time and time again, you're creating an environment where this sort of thing is going to happen. Like it's bound to happen. I don't hear me wrong. I'm not blaming the environment for creating a Joseph Dugger because at the end of the day, you can explain someone's behavior and not excuse the behavior. Yeah. But again, if you have someone who is starting to develop a, you know, predatory outlook or somebody that's, you know, potentially going to be an offender, if you give them the keys to the kingdom, so to speak, to, you know, to do this, and you create the perfect victims in these environments who are also sheltered and don't not, how to identify this.
Like, I think you do have a role in it. I think there is something there that needs to be talked about, and I think it's the thing that, you know, if there's a takeaway from stories like this, you know, I think I, we have to stop idolizing families like the Duggers, or these super strict, you know, paint a smile on your face, you know, crisp, clean cut family. Like, we have to stop looking at them as this gold standard because the reality is like, there's a lot happening behind the scenes that you probably don't know about that the people inside probably don't understand. And I guess my point is like, there's some people that go the route of like, you know, every Dugger is probably this. I don't think that's true. I think there's, you know, there's a lot of people in the family that didn't choose their family. You know, they're born in a certain group. But I do think we need to take a step back and go, why was this so appealing to such a large swath of the culture for so long? And why are there still so many, especially religious people that still latch onto the
lifestyle and the training and the upbringing that the Duggers had, even though there's now been two predators that have come out of this family so far, you know, cover-ups that we can point to verifiably and say there was actual cover-up by Jim Bob Dugger. You know, we can read Amy's book, you know, and look at the stories of her grandfather, Jim Bob's father, you know, like at a certain point, you know, yeah, you don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water. But like there might be something wrong with the bath water, like there might be something wrong with the way that this is running. And yeah, we should at least talk about it. And I feel like there's just a resistance and just people saying, you know, well, there's bad people everywhere. It's a numbers game. If you have enough kids, there's going to be some bad ones. So it's like, well, I think it's a little more complicated than that. Yeah, I absolutely agree. And this is only what we can verify so far. Because as we know, you said the cover-ups are big, but also the cover-ups within the family itself, where the family members don't even know what's going on.
So everyone is truly left in the dark, and that's a scary place to be. Let's take a few questions before we continue on. Eric, do you know if there was another incident with this Dugger that was, quote, for given? No. And I think from, I haven't followed the Duggers as closely as some. And this is like the seventh youngest, I think, sibling. So as we passed the time that they were, he was really a big presence on TV. I don't think there was ever any suspicion of anything. And everyone I've seen so far that was like a die-hard Dugger fan has been surprised specifically that it was him. So I don't know why that is, but that seems to be the case. A lot of people seem to love his spouse and, you know, thought they were really great couple. So it seems to be a shock. And there's actually a clip in the first episode of counting on at the very end of the episode. Then I showed this in my video I did on this. He actually talks about Josh Dugger's scandals and talks about what a shock it was to him
that he had a secret life. He talks about how sad it is when someone seeks to represent God and is, you know, doing the opposite and not staying faithful to their wife. And so it's fascinating watching that clip from 2015, knowing that five years later, you know, he's saying somebody who's a victim that's around the ages of some of the people that Josh Dugger was. I mean, it's a really interesting thing there. And there's, again, there's a lot of things you could guess about or ponder about that. But it's, yeah, it seems like it was kind of a shock to people. And not that it matters. A minor is a minor. But do we know the age gap between them when the incident happened? You know, he's 30, yes, he was married. He's 31 now, I believe he was 25 or 24 around the time and the victim was, again, nine at the time. So yeah, it wasn't identical to, you know, Josh Dugger's first case, he was also a minor,
which again does not make it okay and there's a lot of things that should have happened. But yeah, you know, it's, it's certainly a different situation in that factor. Yeah. For sure. Okay. Other questions? Hey, thank you so much for the super chat. We really appreciate you and I feel weird getting excited. Like I do really appreciate your support. It just feels like a weird time to be all peppy right now. Okay. I know it sounds messed up, but I say this as a victim of CSA, which I'm so sorry. I feel bad for the predators as well because two predators from the same home that says the environment was to blame the parents. You kind of touched on this. I guess I would, I would add my two cents as a victim of CSA myself. It's hard to know and yes, there are cycles that do happen. And as we mentioned, we know that grandpa Dugger was also a child predator based on Amy's account in her book, Amy Dugger. We just can't say for sure, but I, I would agree with you that chances are pretty high
that the environment itself was unsafe. We don't know if that's the parents. We don't know if like what environment that is specifically that may have caused them to know certain things or be more prone to doing certain things. It's really all just speculation, but I, I would say the chances are probably high. What do you think, Eric? Yeah. I mean, again, this goes into speculation, which I'll just say that's what it is. I mean, we know that Jim Bob's father was a predator from accounts from at least Amy and her mother, who is Jim Bob's sister, of course, you know, in the book it talks about. There's a exact quote when some of this started to surface about his predatory action years and years ago. And Amy says, as typically happens in the Dugger family, despite these unfortunate events, if marched on, and then she goes on to say about all the stipulations that were placed on her to keep him in check, you know, like she mentions not being allowed to play with,
you know, Barbies in front of them because his grandmother didn't want her to risk him, you know, seeing the naked form of a Barbie doll, you know, or not being allowed to have friends over. And so again, I just go back to in this environment, there's at least two predators that the family knew about, but kept around and put the impetus on the potential victims around them. In a case of Josh Dugger, his actual victims to be back around him and be responsible for making sure they don't tempt them into messing up. And so I think when you have an environment like that, do I think that there's only been, you know, the four or five victims that we know about within the family, it's hard for me to say that there's, that that's it, but again, I think it's dangerous to start speculating too much because I don't want to say, oh, I know it was everybody, right? I know it was this specific person, I just, you know, I know the stats, like the average offender has 150 victims, you know, when they're able to go on for a long time, which always
sounds like an unreal stat, but it's true. And when you have that much unfettered access and power, especially as a male in those environments, you know, it's, it's tough. And also his, his brother was, you know, I mean, he saw how that was handled. His brother had a lot of access to the family. I mean, there's a lot of things you could think about there. But yeah, I can, like I said, I can, I can understand how someone can get there in these environments on some level, like psychologically, but it just doesn't excuse it obviously. And I don't have, I just don't have empathy for this crime at all, like, yeah, I don't know. Yeah. And it is interesting that, and it makes you try to think more about his psychology because he did see what happened to his brother and his brother did get put away. And here he is doing the same thing, knowing full well what could happen. So it makes you, makes you speculate further that there is a true psychological issue and
not just something that he one day wanted to try out for himself. It seems like it could have been an uncontrolled or urge or something else going on that's a little bit deeper than service level, but again, speculation. Any other questions here? I do like this, this comment, someone said, I feel Jessica Galliker said, I feel predatory behavior may have a genetic root, which I think there is a lot of evidence to point to that, like there's some people that just seem to be, it's the reason I can't empathize and most people can is that we can't put ourselves in the shoes of someone who does these things. Like, we can't sit there and go, like, oh, I could see how x, y, z leads to this. Like, there's a complete disconnect there. So there is something just wired differently in these predators. But I like that she says an environment can trigger it too where like, if you are predisposed to this, the environment can either make it very easy for you to do this or can make it very hard. It can, you know, make it more enticing or less. I think that's important to mention as well.
I just want to shout that out since I saw pop up there. Yeah. And I definitely, I definitely agree with even if there is something genetic that doesn't mean you are going to be a predator because everyone has choice. At the end of the day, you decide your actions. And so I just wanted to say that to someone had asked, why did it take so long for it to come out? We don't, we don't know that answer yet. Yeah. And again, we don't know the gap. We don't know the gap between when the victim told someone other than him, you know. So, so we don't know if, we don't know if earlier this week, you know, she spoke up about it for the first time and the dad took action. We don't know if she told the dad five years ago, in which case it is a question of when did this, you know, why this takes so long, we just don't know. I will say again, just to throw it out there, most people take several years before they report, you know, CSA or essay at all, just because the amount of time it takes to process
to recognize something was done wrong, like it's not uncommon. This is actually, when I read it, I was surprised how quickly it came out to be completely honest. So, yeah. I'm glad you said that I was about to say the exact same thing. There are so many reasons why people, especially children, don't report. Some of them think it's their fault, especially in these environments, these religious environments where the blame is heavily put on the women or the girls for seducing them or leading them on or whatever BS insert here. So it could be shame, it could be guilt, it could be a lack of understanding, not like we said earlier, when you don't give children the education of vocabulary, the boundaries, the consent, any of that, they don't really understand what happens, so they don't really know if it's wrong. Do I talk about it? Do I not? And the fear of going through litigation is a very real thing. A lot of times, victims, survivors are not believed on the stand.
They are just put through the ringer. They have to give very specific details of the assault and all that's really painful when you have a courtroom of people scrutinizing your story and you have to relive it in front of these strangers. It's really scary. And so I wanted to mention that as well, there are just so many factors of why people don't choose to report sometimes take years and sometimes never tell anybody that it happened. Right. Okay, a few more questions and I think we're probably, probably about covered it. We have almost 2,000 people watching this, that's crazy. No, now we have over 2,000 people. I'm looking to see. Someone said the New York Times is a reporter, the survivors, 14 now. They are 14 now. They were nine when it happened, just to specify. Yes. Maybe that's it.
Jonathan's moderating for us. If nothing's coming up, then that could be the end of the line for questions. Is there anything else that you wanted to mention, talk about whether it's environments that lead to this, we kind of covered that or anything that you speculate might happen after this? Yeah. I mean, honestly, the thing right now, I mentioned earlier that all we can do is make guesses based on the past as far as how the Dougers handle this and based on that past is why I'm not optimistic about there being a big statement written. Obviously, I hope that Jim Bob proves me wrong. I hope that there's... I hope this is a wake up call that leads to more transparency from the family themselves. I know I'm certainly... I understand why some of the siblings maybe haven't spoken about it yet, because I'm sure this is also re-traumatizing for the ones who are victims, which you know, there are several who are victims of CSA themselves, or someone like, you know, Amy who's written
about this extensively and has gone through this process with them before. So I think some people it's going to be a matter of time, but, you know, I'm not too optimistic for the right decisions to be made by the Douger family, and again, I'll just reiterate my point. We need to stop putting the shiny, happy families on a pedestal the way that we do, because, you know, just because you're strict on what you allow your optics to look like, and just because you're putting on a happy face doesn't mean that you're handling things correctly. And again, I think we put people on a pedestal for looking so clean and shiny, and we don't ever look at the actual teaching itself and the fruit of it, you know, not to get too biblical on everybody in the chat, but, you know, growing up when I was a fundamentalist Christian, we learned that you could tell a lot about people by their fruit, and I think this case is yet another piece of fruit that is just completely rotten from this group.
And, you know, again, there's a line there between personal responsibility and kind of the corporate responsibility, but the fact that we're having this conversation, it feels like every couple of years about something new is pretty disturbing to me. So, I'll look at that as well. And on the note of the facade, we've had on so many survivors from so many different cults who talk, who have gone on to become psychologists and child therapists and everything. And every single one of them says, the more well-behaved a child is, especially in public, the more cause of concern you should have for that child, because children are not always well-behaved. In fact, they're not really supposed to be developmentally. They're going to be a little wild, a little crazy. The ones who feel more comfortable are going to talk a little bit more, be a little bit more boisterous. And the ones who are just sitting there, perfectly well-behaved, yes, ma'am, yes, sir, there's probably a fear behind that. And that probably means you should check into what's going on at home.
And I mean, corporal punishment is the whole thing that we could discuss with the diggers. We know that they have, what did they call it? What was the stick called? Oh, I don't remember what there's was. Encouragement stick or something? Yeah, I think it was. I think it was encouragement. Do you need some encouragement? We had a family in the church I grew up in, not to, I know you just said, we could talk about corporal punishment for a long time. So I will keep it brief. But I know we had a family in the church I grew up in that named their paddle serious consequences. So when they were in the store, they would say, you need to stop or there's going to be serious consequences. And it was like their code word for you're going to get a spanking when we leave. And that kind of stuff goes to an extreme. I didn't interview with two women who wrote a book called The Myth of Good Christian Parenting. It's on my channel. And their book The Myth of Good Christian Parenting is available as well. But they dive deep into that. So if you do want the deep dive into corporal punishment in fundamental circles, that would
be a great place to go look. Yeah. If you need a code word, it's probably not something you should be doing. If you can't say it in public, that's a big issue. A lot of people are mentioning, we didn't talk about this too much. But this is being handled by the state of Florida, which I will also say is probably not going to be very good for Joseph. So I know, yeah, I know like Arkansas was tricky to get a full sentence for for Josh that he didn't get maximum sentence for his crimes, which is wild to me because I have feelings about what should have happened in light of all of that. But Florida itself is, they don't take currently, they're on kind of a spree addressing these issues in a big way. So we'll see what happens as far as the trial there. Okay. I think we do have a few more questions before we officially sign off.
What about Jim Bob? Any allegations about him? Not that we know of, right? Not officially? No, no, there's no allegations of that. I mean, again, we know how he handles these situations from Jill's book, which I recommend, Amy's book, which I recommend, you know, those two, again, I don't recommend everything in, you know, any book I recommend. But as far as like giving honest accounts of what happened, I much, I give him much higher recommendation of those, especially Amy's book. I think is great. The last bit of Jill's book, you know, gingers, I don't think gives a really great light on, on everything there. But some of the stuff, like in the contracts he had people sign, the way he threatened people to stay silent about these topics, to where he would literally threaten to take away their inheritance, you know, if they spoke about this, like, I mean, I don't know, like when you're protecting this stuff, this hard, it makes me question you. And that's all I can say right now is like, it makes me question. But I kind of also feel like we would know by now, I don't know, though, I mean, with
everything else we know, I would think it would come out, but like I said, I wouldn't be surprised. There's no piece of news that would surprise me, you know. This could also be a snowball effect, where someone else comes forward and then someone else comes forward, which we often see. And it drives me crazy when people are like, oh, they're just coming forward to jump on the bandwagon. No, they're feeling brave and courageous because they see other people doing it. And it inspires them to do it themselves. So you never know what this could trigger, if anything, if there's anything to trigger. But I guess time will tell questions. Do you think it's likely more of the brothers were involved in horrible acts? It seems scary and more likely now that Joe has been arrested. Well, that's a snowball effect, right? We don't really know until we know, but possibly, yeah, I mean, I'll go back to his, I'm not shocked. You know, that's all I can say to any variation of this question is, like, when it comes to these environments, when I swear like this happens, it doesn't shock me. And it's not to say, again, I grew up in this environment.
So like, I'm going to say everybody that grew up this way turns out a certain way. You know, but I also know there's environments that, that it's just easier to pray. So it's like, that's the thing I look at is like, how easy is it? How much has it been covered up in the past? What I'd be shocked if it happened again, you know, and again, there's lots of amazing people that are in these environments, you know, there's probably certain people in these that are amazing people in these environments. But if you're not an amazing person, these environments are kind of a great spot to be able to do stuff without being questioned. So, you know, yep, any final questions? Eric, thank you for being here. Yes. Thank you for being here. And 2.1K watching. Let's hit the like and share. Break the silence. Break the cycle. Yes. Thank you guys so much for watching. The more you interact with the post is the best way for the algorithm to boost it out and
help more people become aware of what's going on, what's happening to spread this conversation as far as we can. And yes, if you want to know what's more what's going on, what's on the ground stuff, Eric's channel is great for that. He always is on top of things. Whenever he posts something, I'm texting him like, let's go live about it today and think believe he was available today to join us and to give us the full scoop and the full story. I really appreciate it. You've done a lot of hard work in investigating and that is not to be diminished. I really appreciate everything that you do to share this stuff with the world, especially with a topic matter that is so difficult to see and read and hear every day as a eight month pregnant person, it's tricky for me with my own dramas, but it does need to be talked about. And so I appreciate you, Eric, for coming on and I appreciate everyone who is watching 2200 people right now who are wanting to be informed. People come forward when others come forward first because they now know that they're not
alone or without support, absolutely. And that's one of the reasons too. When we have people from different cults, I always ask them, do you have a family member or a friend or someone else who could also come on and speak, not because I don't think that their story is credible, but because there's so much power in numbers and when more people come forward, it just strengthens the story, it strengthens the testimony, it strengthens everything and it helps people see that it's not an isolated incident. There are multiple people going through similar things. It's just really scary to come forward and talk about and I don't take it lightly when someone says yes to coming on our platform because it is such a huge deal to put yourself out there in the most vulnerable way possible, open to scrutiny to an open forum on YouTube where anyone can comment and say anything. And so it's a big deal. And I really hope that this girl gets the justice that she deserves. She did confess so there's that at least.
And I hope there aren't more victims, but like you said, we wouldn't be surprised if there were. So someone said, do we know if the survivor's related to, we don't know. Again, it was on a family vacation, so potentially a friend, but like I said, speculation doesn't really help anything here. I mean, it's a, it doesn't do the victim any favors and it, you know, I know there's a lot of people that are kind of snooping to figure out who it is. I just know since the father confronted and the way it was worded, I would assume it's not a sibling, but it would assume it's like a friend of the family or something like that, but I really don't know. Yeah, it's also something where this person is still a minor and if they choose to be anonymous, that's for the best. And I'm sure that's what her parents want. So I don't really endorse anyone trying to figure it out because that wouldn't necessarily help anyone, certainly not the survivor. So if that's what they choose to do, then I would honor that.
Yeah. Okay. Well, I think we covered it all. Thank you again, Eric. Tell everybody your social handles and your channel on where they can find you and support you and hear more of these stories. Yeah. Thank you so much for having me on. I know it's kind of a scramble when something like this drops. And so I appreciate you doing that. If you're watching, if you search preacher boys anywhere, you'll find the podcast or social feeds for what I do, no, I am not a preacher. It's a QC name that as I've grown, people go, oh, you're a preacher. No, I'm not. So don't worry. You can come over. Be safe here. So don't worry. So don't worry. But no, the preacher boys podcast is where I'm at. If you want to get more in depth, look into this story, again, I go into a lot more detail. So be sure to dive in there. And if you would rather watch a series, you can go to HBO Max and catch me in the documentary series, let us pray a ministry of scandals, which will give you some context to the group that I grew up in.
And Sheles again, thank you so much for having me on the show. Whenever I feel like I'm a badass with my podcast and all my content, I remember you're doing the exact same thing while also eight months pregnant. So it's really going to be here and always happy to chat with you. Thank you so much. Yes, I'm sure we will have you on as this unfold and as we know more and keep people updated and posted. And guys, thank you so much for watching, especially live. We really appreciate you joining us. If you're watching the replay, leave those comments below. Even if it's just an emoji, I know it feels weird to comment on topics like this. Any way that you can interact, we'll boost the algorithm, send it to more people, spread the awareness, all of the above. We have channel memberships too if you want early access to some of our videos. And specific live streams that we will be doing for members only. You can check that out on our channel. And thank you guys so much for being here. And until next time, follow your Heist excitement, be conscious and be well.
