I am here with my co-host, the Baron of South Florida, Robert Burns. And we are here on what might be one of our quicker episodes of all time coming into this week. It could be arguing, we are not going to do too much. We are not going to do a recap because we will recap each player position as we go along

2:02because there isn't going to be much to say about the matchup. One on one with these positions. One could make an argument that if you did a power rankings right now of the NFL, this would be number one against number 32. This week's matchup, the 49ers against the dolphins. And worse yet, the dolphins are heading across the country. It is the 49ers home opener. There is not a lot of great things percolating on the surface here. One thing we can say positive about last week are three highest graded players, PFF, and standout performances worth three rookies. So at least that's breaking through. Caleb Douglas, Caden Proctor, and our man, we told you, and it is coming through the stash himself. Jacob Rodriguez already established himself as one of the better linebackers in the league. I'm telling you right now by November 1st, after you get all that Halloween candy unwrapped

3:05in the fight of that bowl. November 1st, we're going to be talking about this is a top three linebacker group in the league. By then, it will be solidified. Some people might even say right now, well right now, we're going to jump on in to quarterbacks. Malik Willis, some really good throws. I liked a lot of what I saw. Unfortunately, the offense was like this very disjointed. The offense was very low rhythm. A lot of things that, you know, and he also had some real tough spots. You can't have the delay of games. You can't have where he's holding the ball for so long now. People were really being hard on him about that, including himself, by the way, awesome accountability from him from a quarterback. I didn't know that was even legal to do in South Florida. I thought, you know, you had to blame other people. You were blaming all the fans. Yeah. You had to talk about how easy it would be to do it from your couch or you had to do things. I didn't know quarterbacks were allowed to be professionals and adults and take the blame

4:08for when they play poorly. But part of coverage sacks, part of holding the ball too long is that nobody's getting open. And so when you're playing with rookies and fourth string tier receivers, that's a part of it. And if they weren't getting open against the Raider Secondary, that doesn't. Yeah. Takerly well for the rest of the season. What did you see? Also, the running threat. Really fun to watch Malik Willis be a legitimate running threat run moving the offense. Some really nice throws, some great ball placement, some great running. That part was a lot of fun and some things to look forward to. What do you think of Malik Willis? Week one. Yeah. I mean, I thought he didn't have a lot to work with. And I think if you listen to last week's episode, we both picked the dolphins to win. And they might have just been hopeful and wishful thinking as opposed to now. It got close for a minute. It was close. It was close. It was close and then it became what it should have been probably all along.

5:09And I think that Malik Willis is devoid of a lot of talent around him, not because they're bad, because they're young, right? The receivers are very young group, unable to get a lot of separation. Now, you're able to have Caleb Douglas have a pretty standout day. But outside of that, again, you mentioned it, coverage sacs, not a lot of good, easy looks down field, stupid throw down the middle of the field that turned into an interception that didn't need to be made, but it was just playing hero ball in the moment. And so I think that if you didn't watch the game and you just look at the stats sheet, you probably think, could have got those numbers from Tua, you know, very similar in the passing game. Other than the rushing take away the legs. Yeah, I had to put that that in there. Take away the legs, the numbers in the passing game look like what you probably could have got with any insert, any quarterback there.

6:10But I think you're right. The mustache made his mark. And I think that's what we're going to have to call him now is the mustache and might as well start making space in the ring of honor at this point. It's been a game, but he's already going up as one of the best linebackers in the history of Miami Dolphins. Jacob Rodriguez. And that's an absolute over exaggeration. But it's still fun to do because I got nothing else to look for. We need something because even our players were we're killing us on Sunday. And they might have just, you know, shown off a blueprint on how to maximize your defense against the Miami Dolphins. And what does that mean? That means taking away Devon HN, which the Raiders did and getting pressure on the quarterback because you know the receivers are going to be inexperienced and sometimes they'll get open. But most times there's not going to be a lot of separation. And that's what we saw. I think that's the blueprint. And boy, are they going to have a tough time against the 49ers because if this isn't the best team in the league, the other best team in the league is in your same division in Buffalo Bills.

7:10They're going to get any easier, guys, because this is one of the hardest schedules in the NFL this year. So strap on your seat belts. Get ready for the ride because just like Disney, this one's probably only going to last a couple of minutes. So when I say, you know, is it the best team in the league or not, I will say is there's nobody who was more impressive in week one because we had the Rams, right, that people were saying we're 16 and 0. They were the super team. They were this and that and the 49ers didn't just beat them. They put belt to ass on them in every level and every phase of the game. So circling back to quarterbacks, I mean, we like what we saw at McWillis, but this is not a, I generally, generally, I will put Brock Purti between QB5 and the QB9. Now, there is time, but that's mostly because of inconsistency because there was a three game stretch last season, Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, two of those games from prime time that by the metrics and by the numbers and by the tape, he was the

8:15best quarterback in the league. He has weeks like that in him and that doesn't bode well when you look like you might have a historically bad defense, historically bad defense. Now, there's other weeks where Brock Purti looks like he shouldn't be a starter in the NFL. And so that's where you get the averaging out of where he's usually between QB5 and QB 10, but he does have the ability on a given week to look like the best quarterback in football. We're going to have to go property in this matchup. Yeah. Here's the thing. You have three touchdowns last week. He might have another three touchdowns or five because he played what was supposed to be a pretty decent defense, even though Miles Garrett, you know, not not playing the way he's put, not playing the way he should, Aaron Donald not playing at all. Still, the Rams have a much better secondary than the Miami Dolphins do and he got three touchdowns. No, wide receiver really lit it up for him, but he distributed the ball the way that he

9:20is known to do. And I think he's going to do that just fine against the Dolphins. And his, I don't even think the Dolphins didn't even come back to South Florida. They just stayed over on the West Coast, the majority of the week and and practice over there. So times change shouldn't be an issue. They're not practicing at the 49ers fields. No injuries should be that big of an issue, but I don't think it's going to help at all. I think I think Purti's going to slice him up and he's probably not going to break that much of a sweat. I don't, yeah, the only reason I don't think there might be, maybe there might not be three touchdowns is because I don't know how much they're going to need to run the ball or throw the ball. Excuse me. I don't know how much they need to throw the ball. We'll get to that in a minute. But the interior of the 49ers line was in complete control of that game last week. And we just talked about under talented line in Las Vegas. We're in complete control of the Dolphins and the run game. So we're going to get to that in a minute, both going Purti in this matchup.

10:23I don't even know if there's much to talk about, you know, and maybe before the season, before game one, we would have had more to talk about in the running game. But I think now that we've seen just stack the box against the Dolphins and you're banking on Devon H and breaking something or doing something miraculous. Encourage to see the offensive line. You know, still held held better than than what I thought. But I don't think that H&D is going to be the 150 yard back on the ground to game. And so I think Christian McCaffrey can easily do that against the Miami Dolphins and almost any team in the league when healthy, when when when motivated. I don't know how motivated he may be out there. Guy guy like K-Lam Black coming in there gets 65, 70 yards as well spelling them. You may not need a whole lot of Christian McCaffrey. This is almost like a week zero college football game. Yeah, I don't think they will. I think this is going to be a K-Lam Black game. One more thing. One last thing about, about party. Speaking of worst to first, first to worst.

11:27Is there any bigger difference in mobility that the quarterbacks we're facing from Kirk Cousins last week to Brock Pertie this week? Brock Pertie is also arguably in the pocket the most elusive quarterback in the league. You could make an argument about Lamar Jackson, but as far as avoiding and getting out of pressure and running around behind the line, Brock Pertie is right up there as compared to Kirk Cousins who as the honorable Mike and Tom Rene's printed out this past week looked like Joe Montana in the first half of that game last week. And the Dolphins pass rush got zero pressures on Kirk Cousins. So what's it going to be with Brock Pertie? Who knows, I'm right with you on the running backs. I still love the talent of the group on our side, but come on, Christian McCaffrey, still a tie by Guy. I don't think they've had the support of cast, man. Perfect guy for this system.

12:27Looked fantastic last week. And moving into a little bit of offensive line talk, which we'll do in a minute, like I said, the interior of the offensive line completely controlled the ramps in that game. And you know, Kellen Black was rushing and nobody would be near him for the first four yards every single fat. And now they're going against a Dolphins defense that looked like they might be historically bad. This might be a 30 points a game situation. You can make history score a lot of points on Calche. I know football season brings some big questions. Who makes the playoffs? Who wins the division? Who takes home the title? I'd look in less likely it's the Dolphins. 14:34There's going to be somebody regulating this week and it's going to be the 49ers offensive line on this sorry situation. We got going on the Dolphins defensive line. As I've said a couple times, the 49ers offensive line last week was in complete control of that game. I guess, much more talented and skilled defense. This is just the beginning of the reason I don't know if Brock Pertie's going to have huge passing numbers is because I don't know how much they're going to need to throw. Because I expect four yards, five yards of carry from this running game. I guess this Dolphins defense. Maybe the only thing that you can look to as a possibility here is that the slowic, he basically runs exactly the Channant system. He's a Channahan acolyte. Maybe the defense knows is very familiar with the looks that they're going to see. But otherwise, not even close on going with the 49ers offensive line.

15:35Dominic Pony seems to be back and form McKibvits. What Trent Williams is always one of the best in the league. Colton McKibvits seems to have very much elevated the game. Had a fantastic 80 plus PFF game last week. Conor Colby, the second year guy who won the starting job. He's like a very generous way to say it. He even had a 60 PFF grade last week. Did a decent job. You got Brendel the center. And Brendel, who I have said in the past, is on the ground more than grass. Even he is playing quite well so far this year. Even though things were looking real, real good for our man, Kaden Proctor, not a lot of improvement elsewhere. Even Aaron Brewer broke my heart. Had such a shitty game, man. Even though one of them was very ticky-tack, even Mark Slayer pointed it out. Holding penalties. You just can't have that out of your best player.

16:36You can't. Like, those are going to have to be the guys that lead. You can't have correctable mistakes happening like that. And things will go sideways quickly. That's a walk for me. 49ers offensive work. And those are the mistakes that if you're not that good in the first place, those are the mistakes that if it's close in the third quarter, that's when it starts to bend and break and you start to lose your way alone. You can't overcome those things. And so I'm with you. And look, I like every listener should love listening to this man because when Aaron talks about the offensive line, it's coming from the back. From the heart, he's going to look a little bit closer and he also knows an offensive line that has an anchor like Trent Williams out there. Better than whatever you got no matter what. Okay. It's going to sit there and mall, even if the Rams had their full complement of healthy

17:38defensive linemen last week. I don't think the 49ers were even scared going out there knowing what they have. You're right. When you're making mistakes like the dolphins did and Proctor had a fine game. Some good, some bad good for a first game professionally for your first round pick. I'm okay with that. I'll take it. Better than what we saw last year out of Sevaya Naya. I mean, I was afraid that Proctor thing was going to be disastrous. And so it was way better than I thought. Healed his own to the most extent that he could. And I think that if you continue to see that, it's going to get better throughout. But the bonehead plays, you can't have that. Being able to get through and hold your block and keep that lane open, even if Willis wants to take off, you got to be able to hold it. I don't think it's going to be able to be very easy for them against this 49ers defensive line because it's that good. And that's what we also kind of have to consider going into these matchups as we make these

18:38grades and these predictions is, yeah, they may be a solid group, depending on who you're playing. If you're playing, you know, Rutgers, sure, you got a better shot. And if you're playing the 49ers. So yeah, the 49ers are clean sweeping, not only the offensive line, we haven't even talked about the receivers. And that might even be a faster analysis than what we've done so far. We're stretching. So the only, the only, you know, saving grace is if there was a vulnerability in this 49ers defense, it is, they have some stars on the defensive line. But the depth is somewhat lacking, especially in the middle. So if Brewer can remember who the hell he is and Proctor can continue, I was going to say maybe there's a little something there. If not for the fact that they have like the best linebacking to do in the league behind them in Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw, but we'll get there. Yeah, receivers. And nobody on the 49ers had to do a whole lot last week either. Whatever configuration.

19:38Nobody would get it up. Whatever configuration the Niners end up bringing out there whether it's F. I mean, so the star rookie, a struggling went down. He's going to be out for 10 weeks. He went down on on this week. So I think it's going to be Mike Evans and Debo Samuel, but still. That's what what's that? 15 troubles between those two and then George Kittle as well. Right. And look, you may have four guys with four catches and 60 yards each. And that's going to be enough to light up. Right. And then Brock Pertig can go take a seat and just keep handing it off to McCaffrey or whoever they put in the backfield at that point. That's how they beat you, right? They don't have to target any one particular guy. You know, even if they have injuries and Lord knows there is no team in the NFL more familiar with injuries than the San Francisco 49ers these past couple of years. Even if they have injuries, they are so accustomed to sitting there and playing musical chairs and putting in anybody back there or anybody out there wide to catch the ball that they'll

20:39still get 40 yards on a bad day. So you have to kind of trust they're going to be able to do that. And comparing that to the dolphins, you know, inexperienced wide receiver group, you want to see Douglas and Bell improve and and and Dullsitz, you know, have a bigger, you know, a role out there and in getting open in the passing lanes and being able to to be a reliable safety net for Willis, it'll come. It'll come. I don't know if he's going to come against this team because where are you going to go? Thank you mentioned you're going to go five yards, five yards deep, 10 yards deep, you're in the into the second layer. And then you're going to run to some really talented. I don't even want to say pass by hitters, men who will hit you hard if you come in their area. And that's what the 49ers are going to do. So I don't I want to come out of this game hole. Well, if you come out of this game with a hole in you and you want to become whole and

He's looked like himself so far you put those two together For right now if Jacob Rodriguez continues what I believe what I believe he will continue Perhaps you got an argument because at that point Jordan Brooks and Jacob Rodriguez if he continues the way he's gonna be that's two guys in the top five Neither one of them might be not be number one But you could argue they're both from the top five and then nobody else has that in the league as of right now though I'm still gonna have to go to 49ers

30:09For now. There's got a lot of players who love to fumble and The thing about Brock Purdy He's gonna give you three chances a week. He's going to he will gave back one of the three chances to get an interception He loves to throw those egg McMuffins right there over there over the middle That's one of Jacob Rodriguez's best areas. He had a fantastic coverage grade last week Jacob Rodriguez is going to get an interception or cause or recover a fumble this week. I'm telling you right now The other thing about Brock Purdy though is he will give you three chances But there's also going to be Five passes he throws per game that defy the laws of physics Where it doesn't matter how good the coverage is it doesn't matter how good a position you're in It's like a video game like in the game just decided the put the ball is going into the receiver sands It just that's gonna happen five times a game, but he's gonna give you the opportunity to intercept him Three times a game Jacob Rodriguez is going to get a turnover one way or another this week. I'm telling you all right

31:11So I think I think we should implement the boulder bulls into the segment instead of waiting till the end Yeah, because I just got one right now. Yes So bold or bull the dolphins offense Will have more turnovers than the dolphins defense is able to get So the off the offense will give away the ball more than the defense will take it away Dang, I was gonna say bull because the 49ers Don't really get turnovers but But look who they're going up against here, so but willis. Yeah willis was Yeah, I mean you wouldn't have said that the raiders had the talent to begin a lot of turnovers either and he still made his a throw 200 exceptions Right, so in the off and flip dolphins two interceptions last week, right dolphins offense one giveaway two takeaways Uh, and this is a Rahim Morris coordinator defense as well

Let's say that he's able to stop him. So I do want to Make sure I'm clear Taff had made some good plays and he got the turnover and you know Was doing a good job from a playmaking standpoint, but it was also pointed out by halfly and taff himself again

33:15At least one thing we got better on this team is accountability this year for sure Taff was not where he was supposed to be on a couple of the touchdowns that Chris Johnson gave up so That was not great, but I was excited to see we're all excited to see I think some playmaking You know on on that side of the ball because they're gonna give up touchdowns and yards anyway So you know Debtaking some risk and making some plays Uh on the other side of things You know the safeties still kind of a weak spot for the 49ers uh Maybe an opportunity there if they get too aggressive But I you know after what we saw from this defense man Ah It was really it's gonna be real clear this week Uh, this might be like a historically bad situation defensively There's no way I can pick the secondary at this point in the in the season over the 49ers second Yeah, and you should it was you should have expected like they're gonna go towards your rookie defensive back right you that they're they're gonna target him

34:18So I'm not again, I'm not surprised that they went after him um, you know unfortunate that you know he he had a couple of Bad spots where he was Um in some of those plays and so stuff you're gonna grow from 49ers defense What are they 150 yards to the MVP of the league last year? Yep, and the secondary 155 yards no touchdowns and no touchdowns and so I don't think that Malik Willis is gonna really light it up To a higher extent than that actually I think maybe 150 yards 175 is probably what he might get I would only go the over If they're that far behind And for some reason the dolphin select we're gonna air it out. We're gonna keep trying some stuff He's gonna have 45 attempts at a certain point in this game um, and that's the only reason he may get those vanity yards But I think when it's competitive in the first half it's gonna be tough it slim pickens because
