0:00The Law School does a good job of teaching you about the law, but it leaves out a lot of stuff when it comes to teaching you about how to be a lawyer. How do you balance gaining clients and chasing success while still having a life? How do you go from articleing student to associate to partner? How do you build a career in private practice that actually works for you? My name is Jeremy Ellorgot and I've spent my entire career in private practice learning the hard way what separates the lawyers that are thriving from those who are just surviving. What I've seen over the years is that many associates progress through their career without receiving the real world advice they need to build a successful private practice. I want to change that. From the articleing student on the cusp of their career to the senior associate wondering if partnership is even worth it, this podcast is for you. In such episode I sit down for 15 minutes, short enough to listen to while on your commute

1:01and dig into the topics that matter with fellow experts from the trenches. Like how to dress for success. I'm a firm believer and look good feel good so if you have a really great outfit on you feel confident starting your day. How to work with an assistant. It's okay for you to ask your assistant like what's working for you, what's not working for you, how can we improve this, how can we make it? How can we make things better? Whether you've worked together six weeks or six years, I think that those are conversations that over time you should continue to have. And how to tell if the time is right to change firms. If more days are the week you get up and you just tread going to work, then maybe it is a time for change and whether that's changed internally or you make a move that's usually the point where you should be doing that. Before bringing you real advice you can actually use whether you're on day one or year ten. These are the things you can't get from a textbook.

2:03Honest discussions where nothing is off limits. 15 minutes, one topic, real actionable advice. Subscribe to Breaking Down the Bar, your guide to private practice and listen to season one coming soon.
