He's never been asked to before. Also what about the rest of those Missouri running backs? But I would say the biggest news I got to start the program with is last night on a Tiger Talk. Eli Drinkowitz told the audience that he was a full participant in today's practice. He being Caden Green, excuse me, the Missouri left tackle who sat out in week one. Well, he's a full go in practice and Drinkowitz continued. I've already watched the tape. There's no concerns from me about performing the way he needs to and also added anytime he's in the huddle, you feel good. And no doubt about that. This news makes me feel much better about Missouri in general and especially about the Missouri

3:15running attack because there were some there were some gaps in the offensive. The offense is performance last week, but mostly not the passing game unlike last season. Well, at least in week one against Arkansas Pine Bluff. Well, the rushing attack left a little bit to be desired. So I'll say this. This week against the J Hawks, if the Tigers can run it, I'm feeling pretty confident. If we can run it as effectively as Missouri did last year for the most part is what I'm saying. And I, of course, if Missouri had a mod hearty, I'd feel a lot more confident. If you miss my program yesterday or just missed the news one way or the other, hearty still not back at practice. No real updates from Eli Drinkowitz. He was very brief with his update on hearty, basically saying, hey, we'll know when he's back at practice more or less. And he's going to need a couple of weeks to ramp up once he's back at practice. So don't expect a mod back for week three for Troy would be my interpretation as well.

4:18At this point, I'm just, I'm not going to be attempting to make any educated guesses on a mod hearty. We'll just see what happens there. We just know we're without him this week, but we also know the Missouri has a pretty dog on good backup in Jamal Roberts. But I will say his career high in touches carries and catches. He had 17 carries and one catch. That was his career high back actually in 2024, a blowout against Alabama. He also had 18 touches in a similar ratio, by the way, 17 to one carries to catches against Texas A&M last year and another game that Missouri, well, wasn't very competitive by the fourth quarter. Well, here's the good news. If you're a Missouri fan, if you're a Jamal Roberts supporter, when Roberts has gotten double digit carries specifically with just a couple of exceptions, well, the results have been outstanding last season against the J Hawks.

5:20Well, Roberts 13 carries for 143 yards, including that 60 a three yard game ceiling touchdown. He had 13 carries for 76 against the game Cox last season. That's good for 5.8 a rush. Now the exceptions Vanderbilt and Oklahoma 10 carries and 10 carries each averaging just about under two yards per carry in those games. I'll just say this. Those are two really strong defenses last season and two teams that absolutely sold out against the run. Similarly, three carries for six yards against Vanderbilt against Auburn, excuse me. Another team that had well, a punishing run defense that absolutely dared Missouri to throw the ball in the second half of the season. I don't think that's the type of defense. You're going to be able to play against Austin Simmons and company this season. I just don't think that's going to be humanly possible. But again, just a few more of these double digit performances by Roberts, the 17 carries

6:24for 110 yards against Mike Elko's Aggies last season 11 for 100 against Arkansas. And even in the bowl game, not as flashy as game is still 11 carries for 56 yards to the tune of 5.1 yards per rush. So I just think Jamal Roberts is obviously a very effective player. Is he as good as Ahmad Hardy? Perhaps not. That's quite a high bar to clear. I have a lot of confidence in Jamal Roberts taking. I would say I'm going to say the over under for him as far as carries. Let's say 24 and a half. I think he'll easily surpass his career high and touches in this particular ball game. And guess what? If he's a little bit worn out, understandably, we can rest him against Troy a little bit in week three. He'll still suit up. But we don't have to give him the full, heavy, heavy load that I think he's going to have to carry against Kansas because number one, this is the game we need him.

7:26This is going to be one of the games we absolutely need everything we can get out of Roberts. Time to take one for the team, pal, and get in the cold in the hot tub after the game, that type of deal because right now there just isn't a lot behind Roberts, at least not much in terms of experience. In fact, one of Missouri's most experienced collegiate running backs outside of Hardy and Roberts was my life on a tee. Unfortunately, the transfer from Montana, as I said on the yesterday's program, drink with said he towards ACL in week one non-contact injury. He's going to be out for the season. So now your eyes turn towards a bunch of relatively inexperienced players, Zai Shahn Edwards from Houston, Christian. Obviously, last week his first FBS experience. I was doing press though. I like what I saw from Edwards. You just wonder what you're going to get out of him and the rest of these guys in the little parts of the game, like pass protection.

8:27I thought Edwards had at least one moment that I liked in pass protection. By the way, I think Jamal Roberts may have even noted that in his words with the press as well. But also, then beyond that, you've got Anthony Favreau, a guy who has been around the program for a while and has never really gotten much action. Preston Hatfield, who a true freshman from Lee Summit, by the way, who rushed for an astonishing 457 yards in the state title game on Faroe Field, by the way. In that team's win over Jackson, Cantwell and Nixah, by the way. And speaking of, by the way, just quickly, since I brought up Jackson Cantwell, if you're curious, he played some second string action with the Miami Hurricanes in week one, mostly at right guard in the Hurricanes opener to the tune of 34 snaps. But since I brought up Jamal Roberts and his thoughts on Zai Shan Edwards, let's just hear from the man himself on Edwards.

9:29Zai Shan is a physical runner man, especially North West Austin. He can get down to field. He got good vision and also, you know, we've worked on this a lot of his past pro-ability, but there's something that we can always work on every day at practice. And he's been doing a good job with that as well. And he could definitely help us out in the regain in life this year. So speaking of high bars, Jamal Roberts sets a really, really high standard in terms of past protection. He is really good at that, along with obviously being good at running the football, which is your number one job as a back. But I agree with his assessment of Zai Shan. I think he can absolutely help out this Missouri rushing attack this coming season. And once again, my plan, a lot of this is based on experience. My plan if I were Eli Drankwitz would be, hey, I'm going to give Jamal Roberts just a ton of work this week. He's going to be out there as much as I can possibly keep him out there.

10:29But then week three, let's see a lot of Zai Shan Edwards. Let's see a rest, a lot of the rest of these running backs. And Max Warner, another true freshman, another, another option there for Missouri in the back field that I didn't bring up along with several others that I brought up already. So that would be my plan. A ton of Jamal Roberts and a heck of a lot more of Zai Shan Edwards and the rest of the crew in week three. I think that plan makes the most sense. And speaking of planning, well, Lance Leopold and his crew may have to plan with being without one of their best linebackers and receivers in this game. That certainly gives you a little bit more confidence. If you're a Missouri fan, plus did Santana banner accidentally give a little bit of bulletin board material to Kansas. Well, that would be quite a stretch. But I guess everybody's stretching for bulletin board material this time of year. So I'll play that bite for you as well. 13:38Caden Green. Well, unfortunately for the J Hawks, Lance Lee pulled said he's quote, trying to be hopeful that Cam Pickett, one of their star receivers and also BAM crouch. A transfer linebacker will be able to play against Missouri Friday night, but he's not sure if either men or either young man is going to play in that ballgame picket. Missed K use season opener on Friday night due to an injury and crouch left the game left to leak one with an injury. Now on one hand, picket was out there in practice, but unlike green, he's not a full go by any means. Zleipold said he still has a way to go pick it in 2025 caught 45 passes for Kansas for 476 yards and three touchdowns. Nick McMillan, however, pretty clearly your number one receiver in pass catcher for Kansas. So it's not as though Isaiah Marshall is going to have nobody to throw the ball to, but

14:43for my experience, it's having two receivers is a heck of a lot different than just having one defensively. You can take out one guy. It's a lot harder to take out two to put it in the most simple basic terms possible. And when it comes to BAM crouch, well, he missed most of 2025 also due to a leg injury as a starter with Boston college, by the way, played against Missouri in 2024 recording 77 tackles on the year six and a half for a loss started at the will linebacker position last week, but left with a shoulder injury was in a sling has not practiced yet. Really sounds like picket is a maybe I'd say crouch is a real long shot to play at linebacker for Kansas this week. That's just that's just how I'm reading the situation. Now these days it's difficult when everybody has taken the bill bellicic approach to media,

15:44which is, hey, let's say as little as possible, it's tough to get any bulletin board material to rile up the troops these days, but that doesn't stop people like Mike Elko from, you know, twisting Brady cooks words from a couple of years ago, for instance, I, oh, I'm so upset that Brady Cook said that the speakers they play at the stadium are actually louder than it is at Kyle Field. By the way, did anybody actually get a, I don't know, a sound meter, whatever those things are called to actually measure that maybe Brady was right. You uptight weirdo Mike Elko, but I digress the point here is that people will look for as much bulletin board material as they can possibly get these days. So at least one eyebrow was raised when Missouri safety Sam Tanna banner was asked what stood out about the J Hawks. I'm saying things things out of the ticket to be there. Constable broads in here, they're going to make some play out.

16:47So this is how I see it. Now to me, I don't know how you felt about that, but when I heard that sound bite, I thought, well, that was pretty innocuous, but in our sound bite driven culture, our attention seeking online sort of social media landscape, they're all living in. You could definitely see a world where somebody framed that is what stands out about Kansas, Santanna banner, nothing. And that could perhaps get some people riled up, but you know what, if so, so be it. I'm not some humorless, you know, chud out there for lack of a better term. And you know what, neither is Santanna banner, by the way, when, when he hears some smack talk from the people in the stands, well, he's not afraid to clap back. You be honest. I've talked back to Santanna. You know, sometimes it's a thing to make the last. Sometimes you have no choice but to talk back, but in the end, you still got to stay focused

17:51and not analysis, but yeah, definitely talk back. And Eli Drinkwoods has talked a lot lately, really encouraging his defense to get more takeaways. And I have to say, the way Missouri played defense last season, you got a squint pretty hard to find any nicks to pick in that performance. So I understand why Eli Drinkwoods is focusing on this. Certainly Missouri, well, technically did not get a take away last week, but they did have an interception by Elijah Dotson before it was taken away. Here's what Santanna said on Dotson and his performance. I'm so excited to get his take. He played great. I mean, that is his playing most of the positions for us. Very strong Rover. Me free strong. Nickel came in. Has a complaint was our not position to stay down to his place. And since I'm on the sound bite roster, let's finish it out with Caden Lee who, well,

18:52when he scored his touchdown from Austin Simmons, did a silly touchdown dance that apparently the rest of the team was supposed to join in on, but they left old Caden hanging out there. Donovan, Alubadeh in particular thought it was a little bit too silly. So I found that whole story a little bit amusing for sure. But also I thought it was interesting to Caden Lee talking about his friend, his former teammate at Ole Miss Austin Simmons and just a little bit about what he went through last season. Yeah, it was kind of a surreal moment. You know, we could go through it with them. They're good to down the bat. Everything that he went through last year. So just being able to see him go out there just had fun again. It's really awesome to see. I'm excited to see what does this season. Confidence is always such a big thing in sports. And I was thinking about a quote from Kansas City great Tom Watson the other day. Of course, a golfer, not a football player, but he had sort of one of those quotes for

19:55one of those yogi bearer type quotes where he said 90% of golf is mental and then the other 10% is mental. I feel that way. Of course, he's exaggerating for effect there. I think there's a lot of that for the quarterback position as well. And I think Austin Simmons, obviously an incredibly athletic guy. I think he's naturally a confident guy from what I can gather as well. But I'll just say this. I think week one was big for him. And I think week two, if Missouri can get through this experience, if he can have another good performance, win a game on the road, win a rivalry game on the road as a starter in college football. Well, I think there's a chance his confidence just really starts to take off in a big way and in a really positive way for Austin and the Missouri Tigers. And coming up, it was a banner 16 and no weekend for SEC football, but the big 10 on the other hand, not so great.

20:56And it went beyond the football field, by the way, that's affected the Missouri Tigers as well. So I'll get to that here on the program in just a minute. But one thing we can agree on is the big 10 had a much worse weekend not only was Rutgers absolutely humiliated by you mass at home. Really Michigan was humiliated too. Yes, they won the game. Congratulations. By the way to the Wolverines on a huge victory that obviously deserved a field rush for sure. But once again, I'm fascinated by how instant replay not only has well it solves a lot of conflict to be sure, but it also creates new ones.

25:02It creates specifically new rules and outcomes that quite literally no one asked for. I realized this 10 12 years or so ago when Major League baseball started doing instant replay and suddenly we were worried about oh the guy at second base who stole second even though he clearly his his foot beat the throw to the bag. Well, when he did the pop up slide, there was a split second where his cleat came off the bag. And since the guy still had the tag on like no one was asking for that. That's the point. That was not the point of replay. We weren't worried like, oh on the pop up slide was there. That wasn't the point. Did he beat the tag or not? That's what we were worried about. And to that point, now the sudden what we have a second clock that not only nobody asked for, nobody knew that even existed as far as I'm aware of. Well, a memo now obtained by the athletic. We're going to solve this problem, at least according to the NC double A. Here's the

26:04beginning of this memo, recognizing that replay and technology and available broadcast resources may vary among institutions, conferences and game sites. It is necessary to establish a standard timing protocol that ensures consistency in the administration of all college football games. The official time clock for all college football games is the time displayed on the in stadium game clock. Wow, what a wild concept by the NC double A. He said incredibly sarcastically. Again, until last week, I thought that was the standard for all of recorded college football time or at least at least once dactronics got involved that kind of deal. At least my entire life when you've had an actual clock that you can look at in the stadium with a big digital readout that 70,000 people can see again, I didn't realize we're playing

27:08soccer and we had a second clock, at least in soccer, you're aware of that fact. In college football, evidently, the only people are aware of that were in fact the officials at the big 10. So if this wasn't bad enough, what Missouri and Nebraska attempted to play a big 10 volleyball game on Riggly field this past Saturday and holy holy moly what a cluster match that was. Again, not exactly the most stellar weekend for the big 10. I will say this though, I'll give a big shout out to not only the Missouri volleyball players, but the Nebraska volleyball players as well who made the best of a bad situation. The the floor was just unplayable by the second game. There was a first game for involving Penn State and somebody else that apparently went off, but the second game, the floor was just too wet. It was it was hot. It was humid, just unplayable. They were mopping, you know, there are players on their hands and knees with towels trying

28:12to dry the thing down and you know, between points, they're singing and having fun between the two teams and try to make the best of it. So God bless the players. I have nothing against them whatsoever. In fact, I'm given them extra credit for effort for sure, but how the big 10 we just can't we just can't do anything right can we. And that'll do it for this week's edition of excuse me this Wednesday's edition of locked on Mizzou as for the rest of this week. I'm not totally sure how I'm going to play it yet as far as Thursday goes. I know I'm going to be on the SEC squad tomorrow to talk about well, not only the J Hawks and the Tigers, but of course everything in the SEC on week two. Will I do a show tomorrow or maybe save another one for Saturday? That's kind of my question. I know post game Friday right after the game. I'm going to go live on YouTube and then we'll shoot it out audio form as quick as I can. Once we're done with the live edition as well. So that that is set in stone.
