The move follows Liberal MP Sussan Lay's resignation from the seat she held for 25 years. Party members gathered in Griffith over the weekend and picked Robertson out of four nominees. The vast electorate stretches across southern and western New South Wales, covering more than 126,000 square kilometers. Robertson brings 29 years of military service and plans to tackle better health care access and water management. He sees the areas farming in the irrigation communities as a perfect fit for nationals values. Former deputy leader Perrin Davy praised his deep commitment to the region. Before late took over, nationals legend Tim Fisher represented Ferrer as deputy prime minister. Robertson feels confident they can reclaim it now that party rules allow the contest. Meanwhile, one nation has named 69-year-old agribusiness owner David Farley as their candidate.
