Well, some of the news yesterday was a little alarming when it was concerning AI. It seemed that some scientists with anthropic resign saying that AI could kill all human beings within 10 years or by the end of the decade. Well, that'll make us all sit up and listen. What's he talking about? But then remember back when they first started piping natural gas under the streets in New York City to light the street lamps and eventually for lighting and heating cooking in homes people say, oh my God, we're all going to die.
There's going to be fire underneath the streets of New York City. Now we're being told that AI is going to kill us all. But there is a story about AI that is real and alarming. It's Bernie Sanders and a Bernie bro, Greg Caesar, a Democrat, of course, from Texas. They have introduced legislation in the Congress of the United States asking for a law that will allow the federal government to issue the death penalty and up to 20 years in prison if an AI company develops that matches or supersedes human intelligence. Leave it to Bernie Sanders. They're liking it to the development of nuclear weapons. Now what happens if they get this law? AI development slows down in the United States. You don't want to get 20 years in prison and then China and Russia forage ahead with their AI capabilities until they control the most powerful AI platforms on the planet and the United States is eating their dust.
American scientists are held back with the threat of prison if they do too good a job, China and Russia forage ahead.
