The event in Byron Bay was set for April 2nd through 5th over Easter weekend, but organizers pulled the plug due to week ticket sales and higher, production costs. This festival has run for more than 36 years, drawing huge crowds and top acts like Bob Dylan. Last year alone, over 100,000 people showed up for the long weekend lineup. Fans are gutted, especially after organizers first build this as the grand finale before a reversing course. The cancellation hits hard for local tourism in the Northern Rivers area, where the event pumps serious money into the economy. Festival director Peter Noble called it a tough call, saying they couldn't deliver the quality everyone expects in today's tough live music scene.
