This week, Mark's Black Maternal Health Week, from April 11th to 17th, shining a light on these disparities right here in Kansas City. The crisis hit home last March when Crystal Anderson, a former cheese cheerleader and Cerner software engineer, died from childbirth complications. Her husband Clayton launched the shine with Joy Foundation to honor her love for Black women and STEM, fair maternal care, wellness, and spreading joy.
