Birmingham's New Childcare Initiative

It targets four neighborhoods, North Birmingham, Northside, Pratt and Smithfield to boost childcare access and workforce growth. This ties into the city's cradle-to-care plan to help kids succeed from early on. Childcare resources is teaming up with the city to improve options in these areas. Leaders there stress that reliable childcare removes a major hurdle for parents entering the workforce. High quality spots also give families confidence their kids are in good hands. The funding will train childcare workers and spark more development. A key part is a new childcare center of excellence in Smithfield, run with the YMCA.
