On March 5th, here's the latest in entertainment and celebrity news. Billy Porter recently opened up about a scary health battle he faced while starring in the Broadway revival of Cabaret. It started with a urinary tract infection during his run as the MC on the West End in London from January to May, 2025. He said the medicine there was not strong enough, so it spread to his kidneys before clearing up. rehearsals began for the Broadway production at the August Wilson Theater, the pain from a kidney stone returned. By Tuesday, he was in so much agony that he checked himself into the hospital. Doctors found the stone stuck in his urethra, so they inserted a stent, gave him strong antibiotics, and redirected his urine flow. Things took a turn for the worse when they discovered a massive buildup of pus and infection behind the stone. It triggered uresepsis and Porter ended up on lie support. He described being dead for three days, calling himself a walking miracle after pulling through.
While in a coma, his leg developed compartment syndrome, where muscles swell and cut off oxygen. Surgeons had to cut it open from knee to hip and leave the wounds exposed for two days to save it. Porter shared this emotional story on the outlaws podcast, getting choked up as he spoke. He's now fully recovered and grateful to be alive. The cavalry revival earned nine Tony nominations in 2024, including one for Eddie Redmayne in the role Porter took over. Look for him next in the Hunger Games, sunrise on the reaping.
